I bought this unit because it would give me an opportunity to insert SD cards for maps outside the US when I travel. I recently traveled to South Africa and sure enough popped in the SD card and I was on my merry way. The unit worked well but fell short in some ways. My old Tom-Tom gave speed, direction, distance to go, estimated time of arrival, lane highlighted,etc were all displayed on screen - very handy to have all this info readily available. Unfortunately, this Garmin Nuvi does not give all that info on screen. Toggling to get the needed information is cumbersome, confusing and dangerous especially in unknown territories. Don't even attempt it at night! You will have to decide what on screen information is most important before you head out. However, a good unit for a beginner!
