    My old Garmin was better

After 6 years of heavy daily use, my old Garmin started fritzing out and needed restarting (in the middle of a trip) more and more often, so I knew I needed to get a new one. Having gotten way more than my money's worth out of the old Garmin, I didn't hesitate to buy another Garmin. This new one, however, has a different address entry and search system that I find flawed, rather than improved. It doesn't seem to have any clear way to enter Town/house#/Street separately and searches 3 or 4 *States*(!) every time I enter an address, resulting in unnecessarily long search-times - when all I want is 5 Maple St in a particular town. Additionally, it does not display ETAs(maybe there's a way to fix this?), and the search results are displayed in a way where you have to push either an UP or Down arrow to see more results, which sometimes results in the address you want being partially obscured. You can no longer simply slide the search results. On the plus side, it was cheaper than my old Garmin, and the screen is bigger. I give it 3 1/2 stars. In all fairness, maybe there is a way to fix/adjust the settings on the Garmin to address a couple of my issues with it, but with my 8+ years of daily experience with Garmins, I should be able to easily find the interfaces to adjust the settings on the Garmin without needing to D/L the instructions(which were not included in the box) IMO, if a long-time, heavy user(I drive for a living) of a Garmin GPS can't adjust/select basic settings on it's successor model without printed instructions, then there is something wrong with the interface design.

The nuvi 57LM does allow you to view the ETA. You can view the ETA in one of the Trip Data fields on the map screen. Here is a link to a Garmin Support Center article that will help:  http://bit.ly/2k6YyyJ

If still having issues with finding addresses and search results, Garmin Product Support would be happy to offer troubleshooting. Our contact information, including telephone numbers and hours of operation, can be found on our Support page: http://www.garmin.com/support >JF Garmin

    Better than Siri

Not a lot to compare with here, but this has done the job so far. Picked it up on sale for my college-bound son - new city, 2000 miles away. So far better than Siri, and I didn't want to mess with free iOS apps. Better to go tried and true. Didn't get a Voice Command model as our in-store tryout wasn't all that impressive. And as a parent, I'd rather have him stop and enter the data and preview the map. Safer that way. And trust me I know, living in a state where it is still legal to text and drive...

I was using a Garmin 40lm prior to this upgrade. Each time, it seems to get better, and the 5 inch screen is very helpful.

I needed to replace an old Magellan that quit working and found this Garmin on sale and couldn't resist the sale price. Never had a Garmin before. My Magellan worked great and lasted many years so I was a little sceptical of this brand. So far the only complaint I have is that it doesn't show the current time on the display screen that's why I give this a 4 star. Other than that the features and options are great. I especially like the split screen option. So far so good. I would recommend this item!

We have multiple Garmin units. My wife gets the new one and I get the old one. The old unit works fine, but buying the new and better unit is way better on several levels. We found that registering the unit on-line was cumbersome and slow. And downloading the software and maps was a very slow process that lasted over two days of constant internet connection. After all that download effort, I hope the data download was successful. It looks like the download ate nearly 6 GB of space on my small netbook computer.

This GPS is great. It gives directions in a friendly speaking manner by using the surroundings as markers. I.e. Turn right after the gas station. It is very helpful, especially on unmarked streets, have used it several times in towns that I was not familiar with and it has gotten me right where I needed to go. Saves battery on my phone since I don't have to use it for directions.

Very useful device for someone who constantly got lost on road trips. However, it is not always accurate. It will get you within striking distance but backup printed directions are a must. On the most recent trip it got me to a church instead of a county office, a half-mile further down the road. Once at the correct place the receptionist said that others had been similarly misdirected! Overall good experience. Surprisingly fast responses. Just not 100% accurate. The small size is very good, not too obtrusive.

This GPS was purchased to assist us in our trip to Fort Bragg. When you travel through North Carolina the road twists and turns quite a bit and highways merge and split. It is quite confusing. This GPS kept us abreast of each lane we needed to be in whether we were turning left right split highways, etc. It was awesome and I highly recommend this GPS to anybody who is in need of one..We have tried several over the past couple years and this is the one we will continue to use

I bought this GPS for a cross country trip. Pros: It does a great job of everything it needs to do as far as directing you where you ned to go. I did not expect the GPS to actually track how fast I was going vs. the actual speed limit. It's a great feature to have when you're on long highways where the speed limits can change rapidly without notice. Con: occasionally the maps go haywire. This rarely happend but every once in awhile after long use I had to use my phone GPS.

We took a trip to Long Island. I don't travel and have no sense of direction, but my brother who is a US Marine was going to be on Long Island for the weekend for a run to honor a fallen soldier, we HAD to go! We used this item to navigate getting where he was going to be so we could see him and this thing is AMAZING ! I have NO sense of direction and this Garmin did it ALL ! We had NO problems ! It was FANTASTIC ! We had nothing to worry about ! I LOVE IT ! !
