I purchased this item based on advertised features & specs. It was very dissapointing, and I'll be returning it - First off, it is not user friendly, hard to navigate through the menu and the Quick Start manual is much less than what I would expect. The downloadable PDF Owners Manual is not much better. After making I had a full battery charge, I plugged the USB cable into my laptop, downloaded software updates and then downloaded some additional apps (all rated @ 4.5 stars or higher) which were shown as being compatable with the Garmin Oregon & series product, each time after the download was complete I made sure I synched the laptop w/ the Garmin. So, after it taking me 20-30 minutes to then find the new apps on the Garmin, many of them ended up working poorly, or not working at all! The advertising for this unit represents it as having bluetooth and wifi connection capability, which it does; So I downloaded the Garmin Connect mobile app on my phone (a Samsung Note 5), but after I got the Garmin paired via Bluetooth to my phone, I was never able to recieve any notifications or other communications from the phone to the Garmin. Using the GarminConnect mobile app I installed on my phone, I also tried using the Connect IQ features on the Garmin but was never able to get any properly functioning features. Additionally, the map view is not in what I would call quality. Regardless of what I tried to do, I could not get a view comparable to the map view pictured on the right edge of the box. The product also comes w/ a "Free 1-year BirdsEye Satellite Imagery Subscription", accessible via the Garmin BaseCamp app. Downloading the BaseCamp app was no problem, but when I tried to download the BirdsEye Imagery, no matter how small of a geographical area I would highlight on the map, all I kept getting was a notification saying something to the effect that the data of the selected geographical area exceeds the available limits and capabilities. The final straw came when I located the corner property where I used to live on the Garmin map; There is a medium sized lake at that location which has been there for at least 25-30 years, but it was not appearing on the Garmin map (even though there is a smaller lake about 2-3 miles from that location and it was perfectly visible on the same map)! So, I tried extensively to adjust the settings, and although both lakes show up every time on each of the two phone GPS apps I use, not only did the bigger lake still fail to appear no matter what I did, but one of the roads bordering my former property which was previously visible on the Garmin map had now also gone ghost, i.e. the E-W road bordering the S. side of the property was still visible, but the N-S road bordering the E. side of the property was as if it was non-existent. These last issues told me that product is not reliable when it comes to providing up to date, accurate geographical/topographical images & information....definitely not what I would expect from a higher end relatively expensive product - 25 years ago I had a very low end inexpensive handheld GPS that, while it did not have all the bells and whistles this one has, the GPS map imaging on the old one performed much, much better than it did on this new Garmin device. Nope, when I'm out in the boonies and needing to keep track of my location so I can avoid getting lost, I'd be better off relying on the satellite based GPS app on my phone as opposed to counting on this purportedly "more sophisticated" product.......

I was new to GPS hiking and found it to be great! The GUI menus are very easy to use. I used the free base camp software along with KLM files from google maps to load my own custom maps and saved a lot of money.

This Garmin seems to have it all. Have updated it, logged into geocaching , set way points. Used it to get back on several hikes. It works! Little pricey.
