I've been wearing the Vivosmart HR for almost 2 months and overall very happy with it. Battery life is pretty good and the functionality and display screen is much better the comparable Fitbit. Very comfortable to wear, and I like that I can change the display from horizontal to vertical view, which I prefer. Very durable and well made. It has a little bit of a high profile, but not enough that it is bothersome. A slimmer profile would definitely make it more attractive as I don't like bulky things on my wrist. The heart rate monitor has a little lag but is pretty accurate when I compare it with the electronic monitors on the elliptical machines. Garmin just placed a new update in its firmware so that the it will display about 4 hours of heart rate data, which is a very nice feature. The stairs climbed is fairly accurate. I really like the local weather display. The "Find your phone" is a nice feature, and I've already used it several times. Garmin also enabled music controls with the exercise modes with its new update. However, I would like to see the following improvements to the exercise mode: 1) Include a "Walk" mode. 2) Include "Weights" mode. 3) Enable customized views of Heart Rate | Training Zone | Miles | Time | Calories in all of the modes. Currently, this is only available in the "Run" mode through Garmin Connect Website. It is not available for the "Cardio" mode. 4) Enable a "Nap" mode that will count towards the sleep count. Also, after wearing the Vivosmart HR on my left hand continuously for a month, I developed an irritation and inflammation where the heart rate monitor touches my skin. But this went away after about a week wearing the Vivosmart HR on my right hand. I'm wearing the band on my left hand again, and the irritation has not returned. Overall, I've really enjoy the Vivosmart HR and am very happy with the purchase. Enough so that I got one for both of my parents as well. It's helped me lose a few pounds during the new year. I look forward to see more improvements with the firmware.

We are thrilled to hear you are happy with the purchase and that you have included your family in this experience. While walking is not a mode, you can change the activity type on Garmin Connect so that it is set as Walk or anything else found in the list. Simply open the GC app > More > Activity Stats >Activities> select activity you wish to change > Three dots>Edit Activity>Activity type. To address the sleep count, nap information can be found here:

First Fitness Watch and I'm Happy

After reading copious amounts of reviews and comparing all the fitness watches available I finally settled on the Vivosmart HR as a birthday gift to myself. So far it's been great seeing my daily activity levels and actually pushing to reach the goals it has for me. I read some reviews stating the watch firmware update and Garmin connect app update caused some issues so I have not updated the firmware despite it requesting me to do so. The only problems I've encountered so far: Activity tracking goes through the roof, showing I've been working out like crazy through the night, when I'm charging the watch if I don't disable that option from the watch. Battery life is about 3 days for me. Do not track your activity if at a sporting event. I wore it to an AZ Cardinals game (11/22 against the Bengals, BEST GAME THIS YEAR!) and all my hooting, hollering and shenanigans resulted in about 15,000 steps and 20 flights of stairs climbed which wasn't accurate at all. It doesn't track distance on a stationary bike. I would say that's not really a problem, the heart rate monitor and calories burned seems accurate (compared to the bikes electronics).

I really do like my Vivosmart HR, I've had it about a month now. I selected the VHR over the Charge HR as I wanted the ability to read the text messages and other notifications. I also like the smaller, sleeker, rounded style vs the Charge HR. There is a great support system on the Garmin forums, and you can participate in the beta system if you like to tinker. The HR sensor has been accurate for me, I test it often against the machines at our gym and its only 1-2bpm difference at most. Even though it's water proof, I take it off when i shower, and will use that time to charge every few days. Using it to sync w/Iphone 6s Plus and MyFitnessPal without issues as well.

My husband is an avid Garmin watch wearer and is always looking at their watches. He saw this in a runners magazine and surprised me with it. It's a great watch, accurate for mileage with my daily walks. Fitness activity tracking is good. I like how you can manage various notifications to be shown on this Garmin: emails, texts, and others depending on what you select from your different apps on your phone. The heart rate feature is great. The stairs feature is off - I can go up and down my household steps and it doesn't always register. Hopefully this will be fixed with an update?? But it's not a big deal as it's not going to change how much I go up and down the steps in my home. Hoping the design does get smaller in height with future upgrades on this model, but overall, very pleased with my surprise gift. I have already recommended this to several friends and will continue to do so.

It was pretty easy to set up. I bought this one for my mom, but I own the same one. I had trouble with mine not syncing to my phone, but finally got it working. I find it hard to toggle through all the different setting at times. The screen is very touchy and you can easily change something without meaning to. I have become extremely frustrated with this device at times. I could only sync through the computer not my phone. Now that I can sync with the phone it doesn't open up automatically on the computer. I like that the garmin is water proof. I swam in the lake this summer and it worked perfectly. When I am standing up at work or moving around very slowly I still get move alerts and a line on the bottom. I'm not sure what I need to do differently since I'm not sitting, but standing. I don't have the option to walk around.

I was torn between this and the Fitbit and I am so happy I chose the Garmin. It's waterproof, tracks my heart rate and my sleep. It's easy to learn and navigate; the app is also just as easy. The only thing I had an issue with that took me a couple days to work out was when I slept with it on it bothered me, so I just rotated it to the inside of my wrist and problem solved. Very pleased all around.

I have had this for the last month and a half and love it! Very comfortable and good looking. The battery life is about 5 days, as described and I get plenty of notifications through the day. I really like that updates can be performed without hooking it up to a computer. Easy to read display very responsive to the touch and with the heart rate monitor, I think gives better sleep tracking. Best of all it is, like the other Garmin fitness bands, WATERPROOF I just do not understand why other brands do not make their bands waterproof, only resistant. Thanks Garmin for a great fitness tracker.

It is similar to a Fitbit costing the same $150. With same features. But the Garmin Vivosmart HR stands alone on the top of the list. At first glace has a larger screen that is backlit, and easily read in sunlight. Heart Rate is very accurate without having to wear a strap across your chest, since it reads off your wrist. Software was easy to setup. Have several friends that share progress with, keeps us in a little friendly competition. Love being able to receive notification of a text message or email. I wear it all the time. I never thought I would love it this much.

When I was on Garmin's website and saw that I could have an activity monitor that finally gave me my heart rate without the strap I jumped at the chance. Most of the time I think the heart rate is right on. I like having this when I am at the gym, especially in spin classes. I was using the vivofit original , the screen illuminates on this one which is nice. Swiping between screens is easy. I have many garmin items so set up was a breeze for me. Very happy with this activity tracker.

This is the second activity tracking device I get (an upgrade from Nike Wrist Band). I've had it for about a month and I have absolutely no issues with it. It is a great alternative to the iWatch for those who are on a budget. Pros: - Great battery life, waterproof and screen - App is a bit too bulky, but it does offer a lot of information - It tracks everything relatively accurately. Floor climbed may be off when your daily routine includes using escalators (subway) - Provides features such as controlling music on the phone, reading notifications (text, emails, Uber, Skype, Viber, Facebook etc). It also lets you answer the phone which is convenient when you run - Vibrations are discrete (alarm, Move!, laps etc) Cons (minor): - Does not allow reading entire emails or texts (display is limited to several lines, including when scrolling) - Not a big fan of rubber bands. It would be great to have some sort of a bracelet - Syncs in app only

Good battery life. It tracks steps and heart rate accurately. The tracking sleep is nice. The app associated with it is informative and fairly easy to understand and operate. Notifications are helpful. The most noticeable thing it lacks is a regular stopwatch and timer, which would have been useful.

I have really enjoyed this fitness tracker. It has worked as advertised. I was really surprised at how well it actually keeps up with burned calories, steps and sleep. I really like the additional features such as being able to see the weather and texts and being able to be notified of phone calls. It has synced up well with the app My Fitness Pal. The data base for entering the food intake is really broad plus you can scan the barcode to input information too. I highly recommend this product.

I got the garmin vivosmart hr because of my work and the amount of time I spend on my feet. I wanted an activity tracker that had other features as well. I considered the Fitbit or the Apple Watch but for the money spent it gave me all the features I wanted. It tracks my steps, heart rate, sleep, and activity as well as sending me notifications from my phone through Bluetooth. I wear it everyday and I am thrilled with the accuracy and the garmin app as well.

I looked around and compared the trackers out there and felt the Garmin VivoSmart HR was the right one for me. It had the features I wanted at a reasonable price, $149. I wasn't sure I needed the heart rate monitor, but I've found it to be of great help in motivating me to do more. I've wanted to lose 15 or 20 pounds and now I'm on my way (1/2 way in 6 weeks). I've been a casual exerciser, and this device has made tracking my progress fun with the app.

Significant upgrade from my previous system (HR strap & watch...I don't remember the brand). I like the size, fit, and convenience of knowing my steps, stairs, calories burned, HR, and weather...all with the swipe of my finger. I also like the notifications coming thru the device. It is pretty accurate, and I believe it does a nice job of tracking my activity. There are times when i will climb a flight of stairs or I'll be walking around the house and it doesn't track my progress, but then, other times it will. The app and website are a bit glitchy...but guessing it is due to being new and still working out some bugs. I've seen some improvements in the past month i have had the device.

Does everything the fitbit does, but is more water proof. Liked the fitbit customer service, but went through 3 devices in one year. This one seems to be a bit more sturdy, plus the text message display and find my phone features are a nice added bonus. The reminder to move is nice, but sometimes goes off even though I've been active. The fact that the sleep tracking and other features is automatic like the fitbit makes this a good choice. I tried the garmin one, but you have to manually enter when you are sleeping and awake, and what activity you are doing.

Thank you very much for the positive review! We're glad you're liking the vívosmart HR so far. To clarify, the vívosmart HR has a water resistance rating of 5 ATM, which means that it can withstand pressures up to an equivalent of 50 meters. If it is not registering that you are being active, it may not be recognizing your movement (i.e. if your arms are fixed on a shopping cart instead of swinging). If you encounter any problems, please contact us at garmin.com/support and we'd be happy to take a look! -LB Garmin

Very comfortable, I think it looks really good too. The HR sensor is extruded so I don't have to wear it really tight and still captures accurate HR. I have compared the accuracy to my Polar Bluetooth HR chest strap and is within 2 bpm.. I would consider this very accurate. Touch screen works even in water. Battery last about 4 days but recharges in about 30 minutes. Doesn't tell battery level only when it is low. Screen to me is very clear, seeing messages side ways took time to get used to but just tells you enough to determine if it is worth getting your phone out. Has a cool find phone feature, I have actually used that a few times, can control music however can't control volume, lost half a star for that. The other half star or full star lose is because it really only works with garmin connect app. Luckily it is a decent app but I wish it would broadcast your HR on Bluetooth so other apps like cyclemeter could read it. Instead I bought the chest strap to use with cyclemeter. I mainly use it for daily activity tracker and like to wear it when playing soccer. Tracks distance and calories, I combine that with food logged in My fitness pal app and I export FIT file from cyclemeter and import it into garmin connect online and use connect as my main overall health app. This tracks sleep too which I also really like, accurate but I still edit almost every morning. All that can be done very fast on my iPhone. Overall initially I really liked it but was going to return it because it didn't broadcast to cyclemeter but for $130 thought it was the best option and I really liked it. Once I found a work around I kept it. Also I was debating on the Apple watch but battery life and the fact if I break this it isn't such a big deal I decided to keep and I am happy I did.

The notifications are great, it's easy to navigate and use, rugged and waterproof, and best of all I only charge it for 30min or so every couple of days and I am good to go.The HR is off by only a couple bpm in my testing using a physiological monitor at the hospital I work at.
