The GE - Calrod 6-Slice Toaster Oven with Convection bake is a very nice looking stainless steel toaster. A little on the bigger side than most toaster ovens, however, it does replace the toaster while including the a toaster oven. Digital display and rotary control knobs are easy to learn and use. Different settings for different cooking functions. Probably, my most favorite use is the warm feature, nothing beats warm chocolate chip cookies. It does take a few minutes to heat for baking, but better than powering up the oven. Size wise, it will accommodate a small pizza or enough toast for a weekend breakfast in one swoop. The negative I would say that the drip/crumb tray, isn't necessary a tray, more of a plate. Crumbs can fall of the tray when removing for cleanup and oils/grease can definitely run off of it. But overall, it's a very versatile toaster oven. Does more and looks better doing than standard toaster. Easy enough to use for my senior mother. And that's what's most important!

This GE toaster convection oven is an excellent addition to our kitchen. It has a stylish stainless steel design that will look good in any kitchen. Many convection ovens I've seen have a very cheap look & build. Not this one. Size is excellent. Big enough for all but the biggest meals yet small enough for almost any countertop. Very simple to use with very even heat. If you need an oven for a small apartment, a cabin, garage, ect I really don't think you can go wrong. The digital readout is easy to see and the controls are very straight forward with various quick settings (bake, broil, toast, pizza, ect). I can see this being very handy around the holidays when there never seems to be enough oven space for everything going on. For the price this is an essential purchase for any kitchen.

A toasted oven is a much needed appliance in any kitchen. If you have the traditional slice toaster get this instead. The love using it to warm up left overs like pizza instead turning on my oven. Great for smaller items that you want that oven bake vs turning on your oven or waiting to use your oven. Lots of different settings for toast, etc. Nice size fits well on your counter without taking up a lot of space. Love the stainless steel. Easy to use. Lightweight. Very happy with this toaster oven.

People, be aware of this toaster before buying !. After 9 months of use, the toaster has a roaring loud noise from inside for a minute or 2 before settle in normal ( regardless of any setting). This is not acceptable quality, this product will not last long. I Will Never buy any toaster OR anything from GE again!

Nice appliance for the kitchen countertop. Set up was extremely easy, I just took everything out of the box and placed it on the counter. In the box is the oven, baking rack, baking pan, heat shield, and a tool to pull out the rack. The instruction booklet didn’t specifically say what the heat shield was so I simply placed it on the bottom of the unit it seemed to fit there best. The instructions call for running the oven for 20 minutes after washing everything in warm soapy water. They warn there will be a smell and there was. It was sort of chemically but not overwhelming. The first item I made was quesadillas on the broil setting. It did a pretty good job, almost similar to my contact grill in that it toasted the tortillas. Next I made brownies. This is when I discovered the heat settings only have even numbers, like 350, but my recipe called for a 325 setting. I set the oven at 320 and watched them closely. I think they turned out better than cooking them in the oven. The oven bakes, roasts, broiled, toasts, and has settings for pizza, bagels, and warming. The timer has default settings for each of these modes but they can be manually adjusted. Overall it’s a good appliance especially for someone looking for an appliance in addition to their stove. There are some things that specifically say they cannot be cooked in a toaster over but not enough to prevent someone from purchasing.

I am a huge fan of convection toaster ovens. They can do anything from bake cookies to reheat a full dinner, to keeping for warm, to traditional toaster oven things like toasting a bagel. This one is no exception. My wife and I love making chicken parm in the GE Calrod toaster oven. It cooks all the way through and crisps up the cheese perfectly! Not dried out at all. We also made a lasagna that came out great without heating up the whole kitchen using the oven. The price point is just right for the build and features. The display is bright and easy to read, set, and use overall. You are not limited to only using convection on the “convection” setting. There’s a handy button to toggle it on an off as desired. Not everything should use it. Cookies are a prime example. If the recipe doesn’t call for convection, pay close attention to it if you flip it on because it will cook things differently! I have such little use for a microwave with this appliance on the counter. I’ll never reheat leftovers in a microwave again. Seriously. Speaking of sitting on the counter—GE has made a slick, simple design. It’s unobtrusive and sleek stainless steel. Even with the requisite distance from the wall, it takes up fairly little space and looks great. The drip tray makes cleaning up a breeze too. Even if something gets on one of the two element rods at the bottoms, just wipe clean. Highly recommend!!

Compared to my simple old toaster oven this thing might as well be a rocket ship. It has all the bells and whistles, such as a large easy to read screen and simple buttons and dials for ease of use. You can select different modes based on what and how much you are cooking and it will do the rest for you. You can take over and simply select a temperature and time if you like as well. It heats up quickly and cooks evenly. It has an extremely handsome overall look in my kitchen and premium feel to the door that doesn’t slam the counter when I open it. Little touches like the grey on the underside and the fully wrapped stainless steel sides and top are great to look at. Overall, it cooks extremely well and is a wonderful addition to our kitchen appliances, allowing a smaller option for when I don’t want to power up the entire oven for something that doesn’t require it. It makes cooking much easier for simpletons like myself who aren’t very good at it! I am very pleased with it and enjoy finding excuses to use it regularly. Highly recommended!

    Much More Than A Toaster

My first toaster oven was a GE, and it provided particularly good service for years. In its era, it was an “advanced” appliance. Today’s multi-function toaster ovens do so many large oven functions that “toaster” is almost a misnomer, though they can still toast bread. For some reason, there are two versions of this oven that look alike and have the same functions; but the prices are different. The Calrod, which is the subject of this review, has the lower price. Three accessories come with the oven: cooking rack, baking tray, and a holding rack. The holding rack is supposed to assist in removing a hot rack or tray. Using it is dicey, even more so for the baking tray. Old fashion heat pads/gloves still come in handy. The accessories and the oven interior are not non-stick, so care should be taken when cooking. The oven has seven primary functions: Bake, Convection Bake, Broil, Roast, Keep Warm, Pizza and Toast. An easily readable display screen shows function in use, cooking temperature, timer, progress of the cooking cycle (Like!), and more. Though the digital display is great for the information provided, selection of function is manual (knobs). At first, I was a bit leery, but soon realized it really wasn’t a big deal, because the manual/digital interaction is easy. Especially nice is the Preheat function, because once the oven has reached the desired cooking temp it beeps, and the Start Button is lit to let you know it’s ready to cook. Put the food in, push Start, and the cooking begins. This is so much better than ovens that start the cooking timer countdown as soon as cooking temp is reached, and the food is not yet in the oven. Pre-heating is fast; and, as a plus, the heating progress is displayed on the screen. For toasting, you can select a cycle for Toast or Bagel and select the shade you want for either. Like any toasting function, a little caution on the first use is good so you can determine what’s the best setting for your taste. It’s easy to fix under-toasting, but over-toasting (burned) can’t be undone. Find the sweet spot for your taste and enjoy. The Bake cycle is the one that I will use most of the time, and it works great. Eggplant Lasagna cooked at 400 degrees for 55 minutes came out perfect. Hot through and through and the cheese was nicely melted, not burned at all. That sold me! There is a lot to like about the Calrod; however, in my view, there is one major shortcoming. There is no oven light, which means having to open the oven and, possibly pull out whatever is cooking, to check progress or accomplish some other need. An oven this nice without an oven light is incomplete. Even my older manual oven had a light. Nevertheless, performance wise, I really like it and would recommend it.

In my kitchen we have a stove but it doesn't have an oven, we actually like to cook different types of food and sometimes an oven is required to do so, in fact I find it quite easy to use this product, it does not use too much space considering this is an oven. With three buttons and a couple of knobs cooking, reheating or toasting food is so simple that it can be turned into a product for daily use, in my opinion for the price it is well worth it, in addition to the fact that the same brand is a guarantee of quality, These last few days that have been a bit cold has been a perfect help since we can toast and cook our favorite food in minutes, I really recommend this product, quite convenient.

GE’s Calrod convection toaster oven is an affordable oven with a lot of options and a great responsive interface. Toast ovens are having a bit of a renaissance, and for good reason. For a few more minutes than a microwave oven, you get juicy, crispy food - especially with the advent of affordable convection toaster ovens, which help maintain more consistent temperatures. The Calrod is a great example of GE taking what has made some competitors ovens popular, distilling it, improving it, and finding the practical engineering solutions for the masses. GE delivers in droves here. First of all, in the box you get the oven, a cooking rack, baking tray, holding rack and manual. The oven itself is covered in stainless steel allowing it to blend in almost any modern kitchen. The oven sports a nice sized LCD display which clearly indicates all functions. Overall, there are two knobs, and three buttons. The top 3 buttons are start, cancel, and convection. The top knob controls the mode, while the bottom knob controls time/temp/slices/etc. The bottom knob is also a button which toggles between functions for the selected mode (for toast number of slides or shade, and with back time and temperature). Immediately turning a knob or pushing a button wakes the display and everything feels super responsive. The toast function does a good job. On the second most to lightest setting I was able to get nicely crispy brown toast from my bread without burning. I also used the pizza mode to make a frozen pizza - which turned out excellent. The crust was crispy and toppings melted nicely into the cheese with just a bit of browning on the edges. This was simply just plugging in the size and recommended temperature on the pizza setting. General baking or rewarming is slightly annoying in this oven. The preheat function of the oven is always on by default, and while you can press start a second time to bypass it for reheating, if you forget, the oven will preheat and never start its timer. This can lead to unexpected results, say if you forgot to disable preheat, throw food in, and then it cooks for basically the whole preheating time plus 10 minutes til the oven turns off automatically. It’s not horrible, but it is a usability thing for me, as I often want to bypass preheating when reheating. A simple reheat mode with no preheating would have solved this. The convection feature means that cooking can be a lot more even in this oven. Unfortunately it’s not fancy enough to have an air fry setting, but generally convection means you get crispier cooked items without overcooking. This oven definitely does a good job, but lacks a higher power convection setting. The trade off here is that this is one of the quietest convection toaster ovens I’ve heard. The door opens nicely and stays open, which is nice. Instead of some pull or fancy engineering, the oven comes with a holding rack - basically a little handle you can pull the tray out with. This is convenient and I’m sure keeps the cost down. Overall the GE Calrod Convection toaster oven does a really good job and is an excellent performer in this price range. You get convection, dedicated modes, and a very responsive digital interface. The preheating I complained about, but in reality is a nice feature if you need to preheat. I wish it had a dumb reheat mode (because that’s what I use a toaster oven for), but I can get used to double tapping start in those scenarios. This is a great oven!

First off, this is a beautiful appliance. I like all of the stainless steel over the front. One difference from my old toaster oven is the display. With this oven, the controls are very simple, and the settings show up on the screen. This is a great advancement as text tends to wear off of metal over time. I have no idea if that will happen here, but my old toaster oven, while still fully functional, became very difficult to use as almost all of the text wore off. Time will tell how it holds up, but thus far I'm very impressed!

Heats quickly, toasts evenly, and fits well with my other stainless appliances. The digital readout is a step up from other toaster ovens and I like the countdown timer for every mode. It also cooks well when baking or in convection mode. The outside gets really hot at higher temperatures, especially in the back and sides, so make sure to leave the required spacing.

    GE Toaster Oven w/Convection Bake

So I received this 6-Slice GE Calrod Toaster Oven a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. For the last week I have primarily used it for breakfast purposes before heading out the door. This included making a few slices of toast/bagels for the kiddos and myself before the morning commute. Aside from the toaster oven, inside the box is shallow baking pan, a cookie sheet, a set of tongs, and the user documentation. The toaster oven is kind of big so you're going to need enough counter space (that's well ventilated) if this will remain as a staple on your countertop. I will caution and say that it gets really hot, so make sure you keep out the reach of small children. Even the handle on the glass door (although its has a plastic backing) gets warm to the touch as well. On the front of the toaster is a nice digital display, Start-Cancel-Conv buttons, Mode knob (for selecting the type of cooking - bake, broil, roast, etc...) and a Shade/Temp button (which allows you to select how light or dark you'd like your toast, as well as setting the time and temp). During our week of use, it performed well but again it gets really hot really quick. But its perfect to throw together a quick grilled cheese sandwich or small frozen pizza or a quick batch of cookies on the cookie sheet. Great toaster for anyone looking for a decent oven with convection baking.

Overall, seems to work well. I really like the door construction. It is a little sturdier than most toaster ovens. Having to push the start button after preheat is a little annoying, because you have to stay near the oven to do that. I am disappointed it does not have a second baking rack.
