Good service but sometimes slow

With my last computer I ended up getting the screen, track pad, hard drive, and charger replaced through the Geek squad, so I basically got a new computer for the price of membership. The only issue I have had is the time you have to be without your computer while they are fixing it, they have many orders to fill and it can sometimes take well over a week to get your product back.

Good for a computer rookie like me

Unfortunately I was not warned that the newly installed Webroot anti-virus pkg. installed might prevent me from opening attachments if I continued to use Internet Explorer instead of Google Chrome to access the internet. I consider the $200 cost for 1 yr. coverage on up to 3 computers a very good value for me because I had 2 computers requiring repair service. So far so good after 1 month of coverage.

Quality product

Also it pays for itself with the fact that it can cover up to three computers for an entire year. They'll analyze the problem, let you know what needs to be done, fix it and they'll keep a record of what's been done and give you any advice you need. Plus they will send you informational videos to help you get a bit of information. Some problems can be handled over the phone and the staff will help you with guidance and direction to fix he problem. If it's beyond that you can take it to the store and they will look at it, advise you what needs done and return it in a quick manner. Worth the cost after just one visit.

Smart buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently purchased a new computer from my local Best Buy in Green Bay and was surprised when my salesman told me the Geek Squad protection covered three devices so I purchased the plan. Took in my girl friend's dell in for a tune up and to attempt to install a Windows eight upgrade from Vista since we were unable to do at home. due to Dells build and Bios we and Best Buy were unable to do it. But the computer runs much faster now after the tune up and service, Geek Squad personnel very friendly and understanding. Explained what they would do and did that and more. Kudos to the Green Bay Team.. Will definitely recommend the plan to friends and family who plan on purchasing from Best Buy. Its another reason to purchase items from Best Buy its a Smart Buy.

Prior support lapsed with many, many emails reminding me of the termination. Phone support finally understood the issue and told me to just let the old one lapse and start the new Geek support. When I used it last year, even an old tower computer was analyzed for a network connect problem, which is good.

Well worth purchasing Geek Squad Protection

After waiting an hour to get an agent, the agent did a very good job of fixing my computer issues and showed me how to use the newer version of Microsoft. The other 2 times I contacted an agent, the agents had to work on my other computer. Even though it took 7-8 hours to do a virus scan and fix the problems both times, the agents were very thorough. They kept me update both on the chat and calling me so that way I didn't have to stay on my computer the whole time. Purchasing the Geek Squad Protection for $169.99 was definitely worth the money because if I used them individually without the protection it could have cost me almost $700. The Geek Squad Protection is well well worth the money. It makes it a great investment.

good log in support
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the log in tech support has become very essential to the upkeep of my laptop. the techs are helpful and experienced.The in store squad?.. They seem overwhelmed when 7-10 folks are in line.At those times.. the small but significant problems a customer may have... get brushed aside.They"re RARELY fully staffed..I'me a real dude--but the lack of female/ethnic techs in store or log in- is abysmal. other than that.. the range of services are impressive.

Convenient service at a reasonable price

So if my parents can get their computers fixed using this service, it must be pretty easy! The plan was attractive for a few reasons: competitive pricing compared with other computer repair places, many locations for drop off, and they will service more than one item under the plan at the same price.

Not as good as I had hoped
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sirs, I had another Dell computer for 6 years. During that time I had Dell's 24/7 support. It was absolutely the best support of any computer I have purchased in the last 25 years. If they could not fix a problem over the phone in 24 hours they were at my office. This they did twice. Most of the time they handled it over the phone in a quick manner. When I purchased the Geek Support from Best Buy for 2 years I was told this support would be better than Dell's. Wrong--by a long shot. When I do call I'm on hold--tell my problem to a person and then wait for a Geek tech to help me. One one occasion I was sent to three different one totaling almost 2 hours of my time. I'm a minister and my time is valuable too. On one occasion a problem with Window 8 and the woman I was talking to was not up on that and sent me to someone else! I paid for 24 phone support I can count on and the start is worrying me if this is how it will be for 2 years. I asked about dealing with Dell directly for my support but was better. Wrong!

first my laptop then my desktop, both are great

Before I realized that had happened, I reconnected the laptop to my home network and infected my desktop. I decided on the one year, up to three devices plan. As it turned out, my laptop had hardware issues, too. Geek Squad assisted me in not just replacing the faulty hardware, but upgrading for very little more money. My desktop was in trouble. The AntiVirus package I was using was not doing the job. Geek Squad cleaned up my machine wonderfully. By the way, my desktop dates back to Windows XP, has had a RAM upgrade, an upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, and is running two physical hard drives, one partitioned, so it sees three. Geek Squad made my computer feel 'brand new'.

Easy to understand info given to a nontechie

I had been scammed by a fraud who had infected my computer with viruses. The Geek Squad listened to me, told me that others had been in my position and not to feel ashamed about that, and then they fixed my computer...taking it back to as it was when it was brand new. Plus advised me as to what security system was best, installed it for me, and then showed me how to hook it back up myself for when I took it home. I also had to call with a couple of questions afterwards, and they were so polite and informative. They were all friendly and fun!

Virus was removed

I wish I could have not had to sign up for such a long protection period, however. The price might be a good value if I use it several times, but it was pricey just to remove the virus I got. Within 2 weeks of getting my laptop back, I am beginning to have problems again, so I am both pleased that I have protection and discouraged that problems are arising so soon.
