I was a huge fan of the first Ghost in the Shell animation, so I didn't think twice when I saw this blue ray on sale and jumped on the opportunity to be amazed again. The movie definitely delivers as expected, these are some of the best animations one can get, gorgeously choreographed and visually stunning, while also delivering both an introspective story with great characters, and a stylized world to ponder upon more abstract concepts for those seeking that type of entertainment.

If you are a fan of the original Ghost in the Shell film, then you will most likely become a fan of this sequel as well! Following the Major's old partner, Batou, as he's joined by his new partner Togusa. Together they investigate why certain 'pleasure bots' are suddenly killing their owners. Director Mamoru Ishii returns, giving a style that fits perfectly as a companion to the original film. I highly recommend this one!!

A good follow-up to the original Ghost in the Shell movie . Happy that they had the same voice actors . Looked good on a 4k tv being upscaled thru an Xbox One X (all purchased at Best Buy) . However , you can only redeem the digital code thru Vudu . It doesn't work at Funimation and the Watch Anywhere service is shutting down ,

I first saw Japanese animation in 1968 when the "Speed Racer" TV series chronicled a young race car wannabe on his journey to competing in the Around the World Grand Prix. The series had a freedom of motion and daring you didn't get from "Jonny Quest" or "Spider-Man".
Japanese creators have helped guide the world's animated feature films and series for decades. The 1995 "Ghost in the Shell" revolutionized the field further. Supercharged by the imagination of elf-like director Mamoru Oshii, the creative team adapted graphic novel manga sources.
The visuals and action influenced Quentin Tarantino, shaped The Matrix of the Siblings Wachowski, and compelled every action and science-fiction filmmaker to rethink their product. The intricate philosophical thought of Oshii elevated a conventional plot into a classic of metaphysical cinema questioning identity and purpose.
In the time since I saw that original "Ghost" on the large screen a wonderland of off-shoots and re-imaginings have spread across the store shelves. Wikipedia can best explain the intertwinings of those movie, TV, and manga variations.
This movie, "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence", deserves to be called the direct sequel to the original. Mamoru Oshii and his production crew have even further expanded the nature of animated cinema. The unique visuals and the haunting score by the original film's Kenji Kawai mesh to create a truly other-worldly revelation of how "cartoons" can achieve fine art.
Cyber-eyed Batou and family man Togusa, former partners of the action heroine known as the Major, still work for clandestine Section 9. They investigate murders of diverse owners of doll-sweet companion robots. Themes of exploited identity, fundamental relationships, and the malleability of memory parallel the action.
Fans of the Major, who vanished at the end of the original film, will detect her subtle influence on her old companions. Appreciators of basset hounds will find Gabriel, a dog modeled on Oshii's own, a touchstone for reality in a film of profound uncertainties. How do we exist with one another when what we experience may not prove trustworthy?
Both Oshii "Ghost In the Shell" motion pictures open eyes, ears, and minds far more thoroughly than most other animated offerings.
An advisory: This version has English dubbing, but no subtitles for the dialogue other than those which translate Japanese song.

A decent follow-up to the first ghost in the Shell that isn't quite as good but still entertaining enough.

I bought GitS: Innocence years ago on DVD when it came out. As an enormous fan of the original I had to have the continuation. At the time, unfortunately, the only version available in the US was English subtitled. I didn't care, I had to have it. The story is just as gritty, technologically surreal as the original (darker than Stand Alone Complex series) but I felt something was missed by watching and reading.
This set of disks is gladly received. The visuals are there and they have the cast from the Stand Alone Complex series of GitS to do the English dub. I finally got what I was missing and this one has the extras such as Blu-Ray and digital (if it is only VUDU or some heretofore unknown anime service, I'd prefer a choice with iTunes). Besides formats there's little changed to the original movie besides the new dub but it makes a world of difference to me. I enjoy the movie on a new level due to it. Also, at ~$15.00 it was a price I was willing to spend.

I first watched this film over 10yrs ago when it came out on DVD and was turned off by the very LARGE text of the subtitles on screen, which was very distracting while viewing the video. The original DVD that was released by Dreamworks also had only Japanese audio, so the subtitles were required to translate the dialogue into English. This new blu-ray edition contains both English and Japanese 5.1 audio so I instantly watched it in English without the need for subtitles to get a better grasp on the dialogue pertaining to the plot, while being able to enjoy the beauty of the video now in it's full HD glory. This is truly one of the most beautifully rendered anime I've seen and must be viewed on Blu-ray!

Most of the Ghost in the Shell franchise takes place in separate seeming continuities with a few characters and thread being common place, however, Ghost in the Shell 2 is actually a direct sequel to the original film. The story is interesting and the animation is beautiful, the dub is much better than the original film as well. I think this film leans too much on really stilted and unconvincing philosophical dialogue in comparison to the rest of the entries in the franchise though, which one really has to be in the right mindset for as it can become exhausting or pretentious. The image and audio quality is excellent, with the soundtrack becoming surprisingly aggressive during the action.
