I just finished listening to these two records, such a great score! Finally glad to own it on vinyl after all these years.
The score definitely brings me back. I understand that Peter Bernstein (Elmer's son and a composer in his own right) presented the listener with a new track order on this specific release, so those who are familiar with how they hear it in the film may be slightly turned off, however I enjoyed listening to it in kind of a new way. The remaster of these tracks is pretty darn good, as I was hearing some new sound elements that I hadn't necessarily honed in on with my repeated viewings of the movie over the years.
As soon as I peeled the shrink-wrap off, the album's satin cover stock immediately caught my attention as it was of the "soft touch" variety with a nice spot gloss UV coat over just the No-Ghost logo, which makes it pop and really adds a nice touch, literally. The gatefold album cover and gatefold insert produce some pretty great photos from the film set. I did not recognize any photos as being previously unreleased, and the placement/design is overall clean, traditional, and has that familiar Ghostbusters look to it.
Speaking of unreleased, there were a few tracks that were previously unreleased that are new with this release, which are “Steel Drum,” “Mistake,” “Halls” (introduction) and “Mr. Stay Puft.” The tracks “We Got One,” “Zuul Part 2” (introduction), “Mistake,” “Let’s Go,” “We’re Going to Save the World” and “Mr. Stay Puft” were not used in the original film, so those were nice to hear.
Regarding the vinyl, I guess I was unaware at the time of purchasing, and the stock photo makes the vinyl records appear to be white with slime around the inner portion, however they are indeed clear and transparent! I was shocked upon sliding them from their protective sleeve. Very cool, even for the vinyl collector. I was thrilled when I found the business card containing a digital download code. I was hoping for one, but wasn’t expecting it, so that was pretty special. Now I can listen on the go!
As far as shipping, nothing unusual regarding time, however I was pretty upset that it was simply slipped into basically a piece of cardboard folded once with a label. Somewhere along transit it must have dropped, which creased the lower left corner of basically everything. Nothing detrimental, but something for the collector to keep in mind. I pre-ordered months prior to release and wasn’t sure if the stores were going to receive any stock.
Thanks for reading my review. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it to any vinyl or Ghostbusters enthusiast.
I would recommend this to a friend
