Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the excellent screen quality and strong performance of the AERO 16" 4K AMOLED Gaming Laptop, frequently praising its value for the price. However, many users point to shortcomings in battery life and the limited port selection as significant drawbacks. Concerns about heat generation and the laptop's weight were also raised by some customers.

Outstanding screen, the hinges, keys, and built quality. Great for creators, but not for gamers. That’s what I can say. Bought on sale for $1399. Good price for that.

I bought this computer and it's only slightly faster than last year's Aero 15 KD with 11th gen i7-11800H and similar specs that I bought from Best Buy last year. I was expecting to be blown away by the 12th gen core i7-12700H like in my new 12th gen desktop system but was disappointedly not. The new 16:10 screen resolution was nice, but the loss of ports and price tag for being around 900 points better in 3Dmark's TimeSpy benchmark was not worth it. Here are my results from both systems in Turbo mode for Time Spy: Aero 16 XE4 (moving the GPU power limit to 120 instead of the default 105): 3DMark Score: 9,873 Graphics Score: 9,662 CPU Score: 11,270 Aero 15 KD: 3DMark Score: 8,989 Graphics Score: 8,777 CPU Score: 10,417 In conclusion for about 9% better performance and loss of onboard ports without using an external dongle was not worth it for me. Honestly, I might have kept the system if Best Buy did not stop the Elite and Elite Plus programs. I actually enjoyed this program and keeping my status with my purchase.

You can't find a better screen for everyday tasks. The OLED response time cannot be matched by any other display technology nor can it's saturation or blacks. It's also 16:10 ratio which is fantastic. It will accept a 100w charger on the back thunderbolt port. It won't work with anything less than 90-100w brick. The 3070ti will not work during USB-C charging, you need the power brick for that to be enabled or game on battery.

Great specs on paper, but under some workloads it is beat out by the ASUS M16 with the same specs. If you need the metal chassis with the MacBook-like look, this would probably be better, but if you want bang for your buck go with the M16.

PROS: I primarily bought this as a workstation, consider the combo of i7-12700H, XE Iris Graphics, and RTX 3070 Ti as a rocket speed machine. It also have a 4K monitor, which is great for productivity, which is way beyond a gaming machine, that usually ships with 1080p with higher refresh rates. Trackpad is spacious for all gestures. Keyboard has nice travel and feedback, not that noisy. Sound quality for the speakers is above average, but I use headsets all the time. It doesn't have USB-A directly on the laptop body, but it ships with a hub that provides 1 RJ45, 1 HDMI (4K@60Hz), and 1 USB-A 3.1 Gen1. CONS: When you enable WSL, and/or Core isolation + Memory integrity, the fan Gigabyte control center won't launch anymore, unless you revert those off. There's a third party tool AeroMinimal that can replace parts of that functionality. it comes with Windows Home, considering how powerful this machine is, I would like to have Windows Pro shipped together.

I have only had this laptop for a week, so these are first impressions. Nonetheless, here goes. Pros: * The screen is amazing. I have several OLED devices including an older Alienware Laptop and and LG TV. This screen is the best PC screen I have ever seen. Ture black of course, but it also gets very bright and the colors absolutely pop. * Size - despite having a 16" 16:10 screen, the Aero 16 is smaller in every dimension than my 15.6" 16:9 Alienware. It is also a few ounces lighter than the Alienware despite the Alienware case being plastic and the Gigabyte being all metal. * Performance - I have benchmarked this laptop against my home-built, but older gaming desktop (i9-9900K, GTX-1080ti). The Gigabyte equals or surpasses the desktop in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K ultra settings. * Noise - for normal use (word processing, web surfing, email, etc.) the fan is either silent or near silent (i.e., cannot be heard over regular room background noise). When pushed hard in gaming, the fan is certainly audible, but the pitch is sufficiently low that it is not too annoying. * Trackpad - very responsive, very smooth. Good sized. * Keyboard backlighting - very bright and clear with variable brightness level. * Appearance - while merely an aesthetic rather than functional attribute, the system is visually very attractive with its silver, all-metal case and clean lines. Cons: * Ports - just 2 TB4 / USB-C ports and an audio jack. Nice that Gigabyte included a small USB-C hub that includes USB-A, ethernet (RJ-45), HDMI and mini-display port. But it is one more thing to carry around. On the other hand, the TB4 ports work perfectly with a full-on TB docking station, so if you are using the system in an office, it is great to have a one-plug dock. * Heat - when running demanding games, the case gets hot. The area around the keyboard stays reasonably comfortable. However, after running some Cyberpunk 2077 benchmarks, I shut down the system and picked it up. The back of the case near the rear exhaust ports was still sufficiently hot that I nearly burned my hand. Just be careful where you touch this thing when / shortly after intense workloads. * Gigabyte software - The Gigabyte Control Center software is OK for things like selecting power modes, but has been flaky for software updates. For example, it has indicated new drivers are available, but when I select download & install, they appear to download, but never install and there is no indication of where the downloaded software is stored. * Color profiles - Gigabyte claims that each unit is individually color calibrated. However, there is no indication of where the corresponding .icc file might be located for use with color aware software. After fishing around, I may have found it, but until I start working with photoshop, I won't know for sure. Given the importance of color accuracy on creator hardware, it seems odd that Gigabyte does not make its color management and profiles easier to use. * Color - while the scree colors are very pretty, there is no way to set different color spaces, e.g., sRGB, Adobe RGB, DCI-P3, etc. You just always get very saturated colors. Just OK: * Keyboard - I have not done a ton of typing, but so far I would say the keyboard is certainly functional, but is not in the same class as the classic ThinkPad keyboards (but then nothing else really is either). Unknown: * Battery life - I have only run the laptop on battery for about 30 minutes. According to the usually inaccurate Windows power meter, that used 10% to 15% of the battery. I would expect 3 to 5 hours of battery life for gentle use like web surfing, but this is just a guess. Overall, the system has worked perfectly so far and has impressed me with its performance, solid build, and beautiful screen. I am a bit disappointed by the lack of color space controls and mystery profiles. However, as I am not using this machine for professional color accurate work, this is an annoyance rather than a deal breaker for me.
