Godzilla movies were a favorite of mine when I was a kid, so there is some implicit bias in my review (mainly on account of its sentimental value, since it brings me back to my childhood days). As a movie it is fair and generally better than most films of this genre. The only major disappointment is that the most of the the action sequences occur in the dark. It would be fun to see Godzilla in full daylight.

I feel as if I'm in the minority when I say I enjoyed this film. Seeing it in IMAX upon release didn't hurt things, but nonetheless I'm pretty fond of it. I enjoyed the character work. Cranston, Olsen, & Johnson were good. In the battle/action sequences we get, it really worked for me.
The Bluray looks excellent. I caught it on sale for $7.99, it was a no brainer. Long live the King!
Enjoy!

Great Godzilla movie that started the new Monster-verse brand. It is a dark movie, but it works well in this instance. My son just watched it and is obsessed with Godzilla now. The 4k looks excellent and the sound is boombastic!

This reboot of the Godzilla franchise is really a lot of fun and way better than the one that came out in the 90's. This one has a more serious vibe to it and has some great homage scenes to the original japanese version. The 3D is great but the picture is not as bright as the regular blu ray. The audio however, (if you have a good sound system) will blow your windows out.

The special effects are good, a good Godzilla movie, lots of action. This is part of the bigger story line. This movie, King Kong: Skull Island, and the newest Godzilla: King of the Monsters, put these three together to get the complete picture, but great movies by themselves.

enjoyed this movie. slow build like the classic movies. some of the acting was poor, but some good stuff too. like, "let them fight". dark movie, like, hard to see. but it did take me back to the early 70's as a kid watching the Saturday afternoon creature feature.

This 2nd remake of the 1950's classic brings added depth to characters, top-notch action and eye popping special effects while retaining the aura that makes "Gojira" such a sustainable Hollywood franchise. This engaging monster-on-the-loose is not to be missed.

Godzilla [Blu-ray] [2014] - Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a Navy bomb expert, has just reunited with his family in San Francisco when he is forced to go to Japan to help his estranged father, Joe (Bryan Cranston). Soon, both men are swept up in an escalating crisis when Godzilla, King of the Monsters, arises from the sea.

This movie is a vast improvement over the Godzilla movie that starred Matthew Broderick. It is a bit slow at the start but Godzilla looks great in 4k. A great buy if you can get your hands on this movie. Steelbook or not.

Visually a masterpiece, this is the Godzilla you've been waiting for, although they could have stayed away from the family dynamic and still told a good monster story, that's just my opinion, this was a good setup for Godzilla King of the Monsters coming out this month. Long live the King of Monsters!

The monsters looked great and the fights (as little as they were) were impressive looking. It is a fresh reboot to the series but there was too much focus on the humans and not enough on the monsters themselves. Worth watching if you are planning to see the newest movie in the series.

Unlike Sony's disaster of the 1990s, GODZILLA is a true classic. A moody film with the threat of menace hanging over everything, Gareth Reeves held the action to a minimum until the violent and explosive climax.
I hope Legendary can keep up the quality of this film in their future entries, because Godzilla deserves respect!

The story drags a little too long but when you finally get the monster fights scene they do not disappoint. This is probably the best version of the Godzilla character.
The human characters aren’t nearly as interesting to watch though.

Decent graphics and a good storyline for the first 2/3 of the movie. I was a little disappointed in the overall ending, but then again the genre is rather predictable. My young son enjoyed the movie a lot.

The movie is a solid Godzilla film, and the disc more than does it justice. Looks fantastic, deep inky blacks and lots of fine detail. The DTS HD-MA 7.1 track is a beast. So much LFE and surround activity.

A very good reboot of the 1954 original

I remember being taken by surprise in 2010 with a small Mexican made film called “Monsters.” I loved the movie and here is the same director (Gareth Edwards) making only his second feature film. A big difference is a much larger budget and a cast of A-list actors. Godzilla movies go back, of course, to the original 1954 Japanese film (“Gojira) which was followed by a series of bad sequels including the 1998 Roland Emmerich flop.
With the exception of Aaron Taylor-Johnson who plays Ford, the son of nuclear scientists, none of the actors really do much but stand around in awe or in the case of Ford’s dad (Bryan Cranston), rant excitedly. Sandra (Juliette Binoche), doesn’t stick around long. Ford’s wife Elle is played by Elizabeth Olsen but she is relegated to fits of worry about her hubby. Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins are the scientists who originally discover there are sleeping giants under the sea. Essentially, the film is a modern day reboot of the original in most respects.
Earthquakes destroy a nuclear facility in Japan, but the fallout is mysteriously contained for 15 years. Then giant creatures are unearthed called MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms). Heck, I identified them. Remember Mothra? There are 2, one a male, can fly. The other one is larger and a female and she has an incubator full of babies ready to burst. Godzilla, who appears to be an island in the Pacific (seriously), arises from a deep slumber and is hungry for a MUTO sandwich.
Dr. Serizawa’s (Watanabe) take on this whole event is to allow Godzilla to go after the MUTOs unencumbered. He has concluded that they are natural enemies. As they move toward the U. S. and their nuclear arsenal (which the monsters love to eat), the American military devise a plan to blow them all to smithereens with an H-Bomb. While there is a satisfactory lead up the big gunfight at high noon, the movie really gets rolling when the big boys go at each other. To be clear, these are some big scary monsters. These guys aren’t King Kong big or T-Rex big, they are skyscraper big. The idea of creating such large creatures is genius. They aren’t necessarily even evil. They are just big darn animals and they knock down stuff in their way, including towering buildings and bridges. The special effects here are noteworthy, the direction is first rate. A sequel should be in the works soon.

Godzilla has been remade several time. I think they finally got it right. Great story line. Monsters look real. Like how a series of movie are following this one. I would recommend adding this to a library especially at this great price.
