Really "smart" product! Installation and set up was super easy and it works as advertised. I replaced my aging smoke detectors and I've already "tested" it while cooking and it worked great, providing a warning at first and giving me the chance to silence it before it went off! I also like the integration with my Nest Thermostat.

I purchased this after a friend of mine recommended it. It was easy to install and setup. No issue there. It is very sensitive. My wife spilled a drop of grease on the oven burner and the Nest detected it and let me know there was a problem. There wasn't even any smoke in the house. I really like the night light feature as well. Highly recommend.

It is ironic to review a device that's main purpose is to appear to do nothing. I have a good number of these devices and none have given a false alarm and the installation is really, really straight forward. The only downside is that these are smaller than some of the units that they replace, as such, the hole in the ceiling needs a bit of patching to cover up the exposed area. Not Nests fault.

I put this up last week. Installation went really well. Very easy to follow directions. Works well so far. I have the wired one and the night light feature is awesome. Only turns on for motion and turns right off when motion starts. I feel safer leaving my dog at home knowing that I will be alerted to any fire or smoke in the house.

I have been wanting to acquire a Nest thermostat ever since generation uno. I have been telling the wife for the last, undisclosed amount of time, that we need new smoke detectors. Our old smoke detectors actually expired, based on the experiation date on the unit. Sorry, I digress. There was a slight learning curve. Might have been more to do with me than the thermostat. Ha! It is rather reassuring to be able to check on the house, the dog, etc. with the cameras covering each entry to the house. And the driveway. Having a smoke and CO detector, hardwired with battery backup, is a really good feeling. I can check temperature, hvac operation, inside the house, outside the house, and check the operation of the smoke/CO detectors as necessary. The only tricky part was maintaining ones excitement. I accidently broke the USB electric plug for the outside camera. Wonderful customer service sent a replacement out at no charge. I do wish Nest had a smoke only detector. It is recommended to keep smoke/CO at least fifteen feet from any combustion type appliances. Such as a furnace or water heater. With my home being basically 24' x 24' there simply is no way to install a Nest Protect in the basement. And I would like a smoke detector down there. And the garage too. So sadly, I will have to consider other brands. Packaging added to the experience. The product design is awesome. Sleek. Well thought out overall. Installation was easier than I though it would be. Plan on another famer for the interior of the garage.

Replaced all the smoke/CO detectors with these. Wired version reduces the need to replace batteries when they inevitably go out at the most inconvenient times. Path light feature is one of my favorite things about this product. Set up/install is quick and easy if you are familiar with Nest products. Worth the investment.

This is now our second one. We had our furnace tubes bust in our apartment and it went off while we were away and said that it picked up 150ppm of carbon monoxide. My landlord kept putting it off saying that our other detectors were faulty until we were able to show him that reading. The first one we bought still has original batteries and still have good battery life and it has been 5-6 years. We will continue to buy more and more until we have enough for the whole house.

    Significant Upgrade and Price

This is not for everyone. The price is, well, astronomical compared to a carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector together. But, it provides much more than just that. If you have smart devices in your home, in particular Nest, it will interact with your nest, which will send you notifications in your phone or smart device. For me, my sprinkler system is set up with my nest thermostat. If the smoke detector sends a signal to my thermostat or my thermostat defects heat, my sprinklers turn on outside my house. Obviously doesn’t help what’s inside, but will save it from spreading to neighbors. Fairly easy install if you are replacing another smoke detector that is hardwired, and you know how to turn your power off.

Consistently highly rated smoke and CO2 alarm. I installed these in my home in less than 30 minutes. Instructions are easy and the activation is as simple as 1-2-3. Installed in my previous home for 8 years and they work well. Easy to test and no false alarms to bother you unnecessarily. Not the cheapest fire alarm but definitely the best.

Replace your old smoke Detectors with the Nest Protect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Replacement is easy to do for the DIY homeowner or apartment landlord. One model comes 120v hard wired with battery backup or the other model with just battery powered. Nest Protect reliably detects and alerts you to the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide in your home for 10 years. Battery change every year is not required.

I originally got a gen1 alarm, for my upstairs of my home. And never got a chance to add on for the downstairs. So when I purchased this one . I noticed that it has a new design and mounting system. Installation was start forward and easy just like Gen 1 model. The thing I like the most was that with the Gen 2 model . You can test alarm with have to out a ladder to reach it. You can test it directly from app.

I was hesitant in spending $100 in a smoke detector, but finally gave in one day when it was on sale at best buy. I own other nest products and wanted to keep it in the save product line, must say money well spent, it works very well, love the added night light and carbon monoxide detection in this product as well. Pairs with my nest thermostat and it all works with the iphone app.

Love this product, especially night light feature (adjustable brightness). Does take some time to do a do It yourself install, but it is totally doable. Does have a 10 year life, so you have to buy all new again in 10 years. You should know something about electrical circuits before attempting. App works very well.

The smoke/co2 monitor is easy to setup and install. Nest provides an easy way to setup the device. The only challenge, I would say is that if you have more than one "kids room", it can become hard to determine which one is which. But, be just check while installing, so you can correctly assign. The wired was easy to change with simply just removing the existing connection. Takes about 5 minutes total to install.

The new Nest Protect has a more refined design than the original model, as well a handy in-app alarm silence feature to go along with its already useful connected features and integration with other Nest products and IFTTT. No other smoke and carbon monoxide detectors available today can match the second-gen Nest Protect in terms of looks and options, making it a great buy for anyone who appreciates design and connected features.

Used these to replace Kiddie units with voice that kept giving false alarms. Tried everything to find the cause, but it must have been the unit as these have been great so far. And I love the path light feature!

Replaced my First Alert smoke alarms with the Nest Protect after they all started beeping. Easy to install. Love the app ability. It runs it own test. Cool feature is the night light that lights up when you walk under them in the night.

This was so easy to install (wired version). I think it took a total of 10 minutes to take the old wired detector down, wire the Protect and mount it. The night light function is great. I can walk the halls in the night without turning anything on, yet the light is low enough that it won't disturb you if it's just outside you bedroom door. If your on the fence just get it, you won't be disappointed.

I replaced my 20 year old alarms with these Nest Protect smart alarms. They were easy to connect to Wifi and install by a DIYer. The system can detect when you are away from home, and performs periodic (loud!) tests will you are away and sends results to your phone. A huge bonus is the Path Light !! Love this product and in fact bought another Nest product after the success with this!

I replaced by traditional wired smoke alarms with the Nest Protect. Love them! The night light is a hit with the family - makes navigating the hallway at night easier. The voice prompts are effective - it tells you what and where the event is occurring - and the fact that they will talk with each other (if you have more than one) and alert thru the Nest app is great.
