Came with spot on camera lens, shows up in all pictures 1x-1.5x focus with no external camera damage. Would not recommend. Pixel 4a was much better

Phone is great but no where did the information that came with or described/advertised the pixel 7a indicate that a 30 watt charger was preferable and no one whom we dealt with at Best Buy shared that information with us.

Battery seems to give out around a year out from purchase. Seems to be a common problem. Great phone otherwise.

Transfer of contacts from iPhone was poorly executed by store personnel. When I I ran it again it transferred all names and 1 phone number for each name. Phone doesn't seem to be able to store multiple numbers per name.

It works... still a lot to learn with this device, it is not as user friendly as an iPhone but doesn't cost as much as an iPhone either. So there are pros and cons.

Best ever of the "A" series and worth the upgrade

This Pixel 7a is my 4th Pixel phone and the 3rd in the “A” series. Normally I get new phones about two years apart, so this is quite a quick turnaround from my current Pixel 6a and I was interested in finding out if it was worth the upgrade. My conclusion, if you want to skip the details that follow, is that, yes, the 7a has improvements and added features that are well worth upgrading even from a phone as recent as the Pixel 6a!
Unboxing the phone and initially setting it up is easy as far as the procedure is concerned, but can also be very time-consuming if you have as many apps and connected devices as I have. This is unavoidable, although Google has made it about as easy as possible while maintaining security and flexibility. For anyone who has previously had a Pixel phone the procedure is pretty much what you are used to.
The 7a is virtually identical to the 6a in size and appearance and has the same screen size and resolution. This is good because the 6a is about at the limit of what I’m willing to carry in my pocket all day. However, the 7a has a high 90Hz refresh rate that makes screen animations, videos, games, etc. noticeably smoother than the 6a. The screen is also brighter, making it easier to see in bright sunlight than my 6a. This will be a big help when taking photos outside in the daytime. The phone has the same “Tensor” main chip as is found on the Pixel 7, which is the next generation from the one found on the Pixel 6 and 6a. In combination with the increase to 8Mb of RAM, this makes the overall performance snappier than the older models. On the downside, it has picked up another half ounce (15g) in weight.
Another big change for the 7a is the upgraded camera sensor, apparently the first time this has been updated in a number of product cycles. I’m not up on the latest camera tech, but I can say that the upgrade has made what is considered one of the best smartphone cameras even better. I haven’t had the chance to take a lot of photos or videos, but what I have tried looks very good. The performance of the Pixel camera in low light has always been especially impressive, and that has fortunately not changed with the 7a. There are also some new/improved camera features such as the ability to “unblur” a photo, remove unwanted objects, and what they call “Super Res Zoom” that is better than what has previously been offered. It’s certain that upgrading from a 12.2MP sensor to a 64MP (!) is a huge improvement. Likewise, the “selfie” camera has been updated and enhanced.
An important new feature is that the phone finally supports face unlock! This has been a long time coming, is easy to set up, and works well. For security reasons, face unlock is limited to the master device unlock; for secured apps you will still have the option to set up and use fingerprint unlock. The under-screen fingerprint reader has been improved, which is a good thing, as the previous implementation could be inconsistent under some conditions.
The best new feature for me on the 7a is wireless charging. I had this on my old Nexus 5 phone, which predated the Pixel branding. Recent flagship Pixels have this feature but it’s never before been included with the “A” series. This requires a wireless charging station such as the Pixel Stand that is available from BestBuy and I’ll be running out to get one ASAP. Wireless charging pads are showing up in more and more places such as cafes, built into cars, etc., so it’s definitely the future of charging and saves wear and tear on the USB connector.
I should also mention that, like my 6a, they no longer supply a charging module with the phone. Again, this should not be a deterrent since most of us have charging bricks all over the place, plus all the other places where there is a USB port that can be used. And now, with wireless charging, it’s even less of an inconvenience to not get one in the box.
This covers the major changes that affected me when coming from a Pixel 6a, and of course there are many more differences that you would if coming from an earlier Pixel phone. To sum it up, in my opinion the major new features – such as face unlocking and wireless charging – make an upgrade from the 6a to the 7a well worth the time and expense, and should be a real "no-brainer" if you have an earlier iteration of the “A” range of Pixel phones. And of course it’s a real winner compared to any other smartphone at this price point.
