Pixel XL is Fresh & New! G.Assistant is brilliant!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything the Google advertisements have been promising has been delivered upon with the new Google Pixel XL. This phone is really fast, has a superior screen, a better than average battery life, charges very quickly and is fully loaded with the most amazing smart phone AI I've ever used, the new Google Assistant! There is room for improvement, and I wish there were some additional features and specs that you can find on other smart phones in this price category however I'm very pleased with the final product. I'm listing some of my personal pros and cons for this phone below. Pros Ergonomically designed fingerprint scanner conveniently located on the back of the phone. I love the placement of the scanner and it reacts very quickly. Wi-Fi Calling Three microphones with noise cancellation. The screen is beautiful! It has an AMOLED display with 2560 x 1440 resolution, packing 534 pixels per inch! It really looks great, probably the best I've seen. The Google Assistant works very well. My voice is recognized easily and it responds quickly. I have been using it for the past couple of days to set reminders, alarms, play music, make phone calls and search for phone numbers and other information. I'm looking forward to forming a working relationship with my Google Assistant! The battery lasts very long allowing hours of on screen time. Much longer than any other phone I've had. I'm curious to see how it performs over time in the coming months to years but I'm very hopeful! Quick charging battery is amazing! Just as advertised. Unique design soon to be easily recognized by other Pixel users. Cons Is not water resistant. No wireless charging. No 3D touch. Does not have duel speaker stereo sound. The price is a bit higher than I would have expected but I think it might be because of the screen, speed, Android version and Google Assistant, but I'm just guessing. Overall I am extremely pleased with this phone. I believe Google has made a great phone and in my opinion, the Pixel seems to be a perfect blend between other major brands. I think that users from these other brands will find Pixel to be somewhat familiar while still being fresh and new! Good job Google. I've uploaded a couple sample pictures taken with my Pixel XL, please do not judge them too harshly and look for other samples as I am not a very good photographer.. LOL My dog, Keiko, says hello! :)

Google set the bar with some exceptions
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I switched from a Galaxy S6 edge to the Google Pixel XL, my wife has an iPhone 6, and my impressions of the Pixel thus far have been very positive with some exceptions. First off, the phone is aesthetically similar to the iPhone 7 Plus with the exception of no button on the front and a finger print sensor on the back. I found the fingerprint sensor to be actually quite useful except if it's mounted in your car, then you would have to revert to using another log in option. As soon as you use the fingerprint unlock button, which is appropriately on the middle back of the phone for your index finger, the phone is on and unlocked ready to go. The responsiveness of the phone and OS were quite noticeable due to the fast processor and DDR memory. The camera has definitely lived up to the hype and outperforms both my S6 edge and iPhone 6; the shutter speed is very fast and pictures and video are the best I've seen on a phone as noted in the professional reviews. The only downfalls are there is no micro SD card slot, which really doesn't matter to me since Google allows you to use unlimited cloud storage for your photos and video which usually take up most of the memory. If this is a concern, I would suggest opting for the 128gb version. Another downfall is the fact that it is not waterproof like the S7 and iPhone 7 which I would've expected with new technology, so maybe in the next version I suppose. Other than those two exceptions, the phone has lived up to it's expectations all around as extremely responsive, fast, beautifully designed and obviously works great with the latest Android software offered first on the only truly all Google phone on the market. And lastly, I must add, the battery lasts very long even with heavy usage and has not yet exploded... sorry Samsung, I just had to even though I enjoyed your phones until then. I still rated this phone a 5/5 star due to all the features and, to me, it's clearly the Android phone to beat and sets the bar even with the aforementioned exceptions.

Google Pixel Is Calling
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve always been hesitant to own an Android phone due to being overwhelmed by the operating system and navigating my way through it. I can genuinely say that the Google Pixel is user-friendly and performs far better than I had imagined. There’s a learning curve to the Pixel it’s not overwhelming. It didn’t take long to adjust to the fact that there’s no physical home button but instead, there’s a virtual one on the screen that appears no matter what app is opened when you double tap the screen. Having no physical home button would allow the phone to utilize more screen space but for some reason, there’s an empty spot where the tactile button would have been. This isn’t a deal breaker, just an observation. Where other smartphones require a thumb scan (usually in the location of the home button) the Pixel has a finger scanner on the back of the phone which wakes up the phone when you naturally cradle it in your hand. The Google Pixel runs on the latest Nougat operating system which I can definitely say it competes with other phone systems. Google Chrome, Google +, Google Photos, Gmail and Google Drive can all be synced to the Google Pixel making it a more of a powerhouse than it already it is. Customizing the phone is SMOOTH! Wallpaper, ringtones etc can be adjusted to your needs and wants. The HD wallpapers look STUNNING on the rich display. The voice recognition is incredible! Once I started using Google Assistant, I couldn’t stop using the voice capabilities! Rarely were my voice commands not understood. Now let’s talk about one of the most important applications which is the camera. The 12.3 MP camera is fast and has built in features that I haven’t seen on other smartphones like Sphere Mode and Photo Blur. Trust me; these are just a couple of fun photo features that can be played with. The camera does a great job with low light pictures. I did notice that sometimes in daytime photos, colors like red or green and be oversaturated but this was a rare occurrence. Here’s another fun feature; when you want to take a selfie with the camera app opened, you simply flick your wrist and the front facing camera is activated. Games such as Real Racing 3 and Angry Birds 2 load fast and look beautiful on this device. With all that said, I have to admit that there are some negatives to the phone but only a few. The Google Pixel isn’t water resistant which would’ve been nice to have. In my opinion, the Google Pixel feels too light in the hand. It almost floats as it were but this issue can be easily remedied with a phone case on it. Finally, stereo speakers would’ve been a really nice finish. At the end of the day, the Google Pixel XL is definitely an option for those that don’t feel comfortable with an iPhone or other brands. In fact, the Google Pixel XL might draw envy from other people.

Google set the bar with some exceptions
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been through a few different Android OS smart phones over the years and this Pixel XL phone by Google sets the bar. Not only do the specs speak for themselves, the performance I have witnessed thus far have met my expectations. I upgraded from a smaller 5 inch screen to the larger 5.5 inch screen and am glad I did. For those of you hesitant to go big, after using it a few days I have no regrets and will go with the bigger screen in the future as well. I have been very pleased with the responsiveness of the phone due to the processor speed combined with the DDR memory. The aesthetics and screen are stunning in comparison to the competition on the Android market and the camera absolutely lives up to the hype with sharp, colorful pictures even in low light. The perfectly positioned fingerprint reader on the backside of the phone has really came in handy with no need to enter a password and by the time you use it your phone is up and running. Another great function of the phone and it's OS is Google Assistant which I recently used on several occasions while traveling and looking for something to do or somewhere to eat. Google also backs it's hardware with two years of customer service and Android updates. The only exceptions to my review are the lack of a SD card slot and the fact that it's not waterproof like some of the other newest smart phones on the market. Even with those exceptions, I still believe the Pixel XL deserves a 5/5 star rating and have already recommended it to several people in the market for a new phone that want to stick to or switch to an Android OS.

Best Android phone/best smart phone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After note 7 recalled, I purchased Pixel XL. I don't think I will enjoy Pixel XL better than Note 7 just because Note 7 was the best phone you can get, and such a really good phone. However after using Pixel XL, I wasn't missing my Note 7 anymore just because Pixel XL does everything I ever wanted. Infact it is really good on performances, take a great photos and videos, and I love using Google Assistant. After using Pixel XL for a while, I don't think you will want to go back to any other smart phone. By the way, way better than iPhone. I recommend Pixel XL to anybody. The only thing that I see the downside of Pixel XL was not water resistant. Other than that there is nothing to complain about this phone.

Google hits a home run
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the phone for about a month now and it is the best phone I have had. It is not perfect but is better than the Samsung Galaxy's I have owned and the Iphone 7 I have used. Let’s review some of the key points : Construction - It is all metal and glass. The back is different, glass on top and metal on bottom. It is thicker than I expected. Not that it is too thick, I just expected something along the lines of an Iphone 7 or Ipad Air 2. It is about 20% thicker than an Iphone 7. The bezel on the top and bottom is much larger than I expected and one of the things I do not like about the phone. It is a little over 1/2 an inch. I just do not not understand, there are no touch buttons on the bottom but the top has the front facing camera and some other necessary camera sensors so it looks like wasted space. Perhaps there is some internal reason to have the space but I would have used the bezel real estate for front facing speakers like the HTC ( which is ironic since HTC makes the Google Pixel.) Software - no bloatware, just fully Android optimized goodness. Since it is the first phone that designed by Google to work with Android, everything works flawlessly. The best is the new Google Assistant – it is simply great. This is what I really like on the phone , it really sells the phone and blows away anything on the market. Google Assistant is Google's latest version of a virtual assistant. Yes, the Android phones and tablets have Google Now – but this is far more that "Ok Google" voice controls. It is almost conversational. Voice recognition is consistent and accurate. The A.I. behind it blows away Siri. Camera - the pictures you get with this phone are as good if not better than dedicated point and shoot digital cameras. I tested it in multiple conditions and everything came out great. I can honestly say the camera produced the best pictures I have ever seen from a phone. Video was impressive as well. There is some type of image stabilization built in and it really eliminates camera shake. I am not sure if it is all software based or hardware and software but it really works well. Outside photos are breathtaking, you cannot beat it. Storage – the model I received has 32 gb. Google is trying to tout their cloud storage but 32 gb is just not quite enough, especially since there is no micro SD slot. Go for the 128 gb option and you will be better off. Google gets a thumbs down for not making a 64 gb version. Google you should know better than this and is one of the reasons it did not get 5 stars. Battery and charging - Talk time is fantastic. I decided to not charge the phone to see how it lasts. With standard use, I did not have to charge it for nearly two days. With heavy use, it still lasted over a day. Impressive. Charging is very fast. I drained down the battery to only a few percent and it charged in to 100% in about 90 minutes. No wireless charging. Screen - The screen has it's strong points and it's weak points. The colors absolutely pop and it looks better than an Iphone and it looks even better than the smaller Google Pixel that I saw in a store. I do not know if the smaller Pixel has a different screen but I could see a difference. I did find that the screen it not as bright as I would like , it is noticeable in a bright enviroment ( like sunny day. ) I would say the Samsung Galaxy S7 is slightly better and the Iphone is a notch down ( not by much.) Performance – this is hard for the average user to quantify it does not make sense to go over testing. What I can say it there was no lag whatsover for switching between apps, video playback , games etc. I could not even make the phone slow down regardless of what I tried. Forget about looking at benchmarks – there is more than enough power for all users here. Technology is reaching the upper limits of what is noticeable in power in phones so there is no concern here. Overall, I recommend the phone . There are some minor quibbles but no deal breakers. The Pixel XL would have gotten 5 stars if there was expandable storage and the screen was brighter. One note, the phone is water resistant but not at the level of the other flagships phones from Apple and Samsung. I do not think it is a big deal but I have no way of testing it so keep that in mind if it is important to you. Regardless, do not buy this phone for the specs, buy it for Google software and Google eco system , it is flawless. Don't get me wrong, the camera is the best of the best and battery life is good but it is the Google Assistant that I really like. The XL might be a bit big for some so look to the smaller Pixel version if you have small hands. You will get the same performance for the most part. Regardless of which one you get, make sure to get the 128 gb version, the 32gb is not enough ( after transferring all my programs and info over, I have 16 gb left and think that will eventually fill up. ) This is a an example of great first generation technology by Google, get the phone and you will not be disappointed.

Amazing Phone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First and foremost, this phone is amazing. Performance and quality exceed my expectations from Google. Pro’s: - Build Quality - Phone Performance - Google Assist - Unlimited photo storage - Battery life - Camera! Con’s: - Cost - Lack of some “flagship” features (i.e. IP67 rating, wireless charging, removable storage) Build quality: This phone is solid in your hand from the moment you pick it up. The aluminum body feels solid and the phone has enough weight behind it to sit comfortably in your hand. I was concerned about the glass portion of the back panel, as I cringed every time I put the phone down on a solid surface, but it has endured very well so far and beyond adding a little flair it helps to quickly identify the top from bottom of the phone as I bring it out of my pocket. The front screen is probably the best screen I have ever used on a smart phone, colors are vibrant, the blacks are deep, and I would put it up against any screen that Apple or Samsung produce. It would really be nice if this was IP 67 rated for water resistance and dust resistance. Performance: The new Qualcomm 821 processor doesn’t seem leaps and bounds above the older 820 model, but there are times where it is noticeable. Transitions are smooth, scrolling is faster and more responsive, and the phone overall just seems more fluid. The finger print reader is very quick. The camera does load faster than my old phone, but isn’t instant. Software: The new launcher is very smooth. Took a little bit of time to get used to the “pull up” for the app drawer, but it seems much more natural than the old app drawer button. The Google assistant is nice, but seems to be a slightly more powerful Google now… I expect this will get better over time, but right now seems to be a little basic. Verizon did a great job with the phone’s “bloatware”. I haven’t “noticed” the applications and it seems that they can be uninstalled if I want to. (good job guys). Everything seems to work really well, and the 3D touch is really nice for the applications it works with right now (mostly google apps) but as with most of the software, it will just get better with time. Camera: This is hands down the best camera I have ever used on a phone. I was worried about the lack of OIS (optical image stabilization) but after seeing how well the EIS performs, it really isn’t a concern anymore. Photos look amazing, the stabilization is awesome, and the HDR+ mode is so fast, I do not even know it’s on. Combined with the unlimited Google photos storage, I really don’t mind the 32GB storage size. Low light photos are amazing and the autofocus is fast. Colors look amazing. I really can’t say enough about this thing. I do wish it had OIS to cover those situations where EIS struggles (lose some details in low light with HDR+ and shaky hands) but I do not think it’s needed overall. Battery: bottom line, rock solid. I run my phones hard, and normally have to charge them in the car to and from work. (sometimes even at work). But no issues with this Pixel XL. The Qualcomm 821 processor combined with the OLED screen seem to have really helped battery life out. I am looking at 18 hours of life today alone and that’s with about 7 hours of screen time on.) If you are in the market for a phone, and you have the money, this phone will not disappoint.

Interesting take on the Android experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Pixel XL is quite a bit different than the Android phone I previously used but I’m really starting to like it. The transition to the Pixel was an easy one. The operating system is very familiar. From a physical standpoint, the phone is sturdy and feels comfortable. The camera is great and takes very good pictures but doesn’t offer as much flexibility and control as my previous phone. The screen has a great resolution and has plenty of viewing space; however, unlike previous phones, I haven’t figured out how to customize the color temperature. There are default options for this but I don’t believe you can blend the colors like I could on my Samsung. I knew the phone wasn’t going to be waterproof but I wish it was! In addition, I’ve found it a little more challenging to buy cases for this phone from big name vendors via Amazon. Many of them do not offer cases on Amazon, which isn’t a huge deal but an inconvenience for me. From a software standpoint, it is simple but easy to use. One of the first things I noticed was how easy it was to get to all of the apps via the home screen. The downward scrolling feature was much easier to use than the side-to-side scrolls I’ve used in the past. There aren’t as many pre-installed apps as other phones but I haven’t really missed anything yet. Many of the apps work the same as on previous phones but there are a few things I miss, for example, I miss having the number displayed above app icons to notify me when I have more than one text, voicemail, vox, etc… The phone provides a general notification but goes away if I clear it, which makes it easy to forget I have a text that I haven’t read. I also miss having the time displayed on the phone, even after it goes to sleep. Overall, I really like the phone and I am continuing to learn about its features. There are still quite a few things I need to play with but I am happy to own it.

I DROPPED MY PHONE INTO COOKING OIL
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, i recently accidentally dropped my phone in skillet that was filled with cooking oil. the phone was literally submerged under 3 inches of oil!! it was under oil for a good 5-6seconds when i was able to fish it out. the phone was working fine when i took it out of the skillet. used alcohol swabs to clean the phone and cotton buds to get as much of the oil out of the headphone jack and charging area. the only thing that seemed to be a problem was the volume in the ear during calls and the speakers on the bottom of the phone. i used a can of compressed air. legit 2-3puffs later the phone sounded like nothing even happened. i didn't think any phone was built that well! the pixel may not have a good enough water proof rating as compared to the s7edge and other competitors but it sure as heck is awesome!!!
