GTA V was hyped up since they announced it's inception at the 2012 E3, and very few titles can live up to the hype of those sorts of debuts. I'm only fifteen, or so hours in to the game and I've not been let down once.
The ability to swap between main characters (when YOU want to) is not entirely unique, but very well executed in this game. The recreation of Los Angeles, aka "Los Santos" is virtually exact, right down to the Santa Monica Pier. The visuals on the 360 are above commendable, given the Xbox One is right around the corner (and I plan on trading it in for the XB1 version at that point). Rockstar even snuck a few Easter Eggs in there for players of GTA IV.
Car/Driving mechanics are improved A LOT, over previous GTA titles. And the characters level up in an RPG sort of way, with nods to how GTA San Andreas did (i.e., you run more, you thereby increase your stamina, etc).
I'll come back an add more as I progress through the game, and more importantly, when GTA Online goes live. But, all-in-all, whether you're a veteran to the franchise, or an absolute newcomer - this is one title you won't want to miss out on for this generation, or the one right around the corner!

Lots of fun and exciting gameplay. The map is huge and will actually take the player a long time to conquer, unlike so many other games these days. There's always lots of f bombs dropped in the GTA series but this game gets quite excessive in several instances. Still enjoy playing it, just be mindful of who is in the room with you.

Great game with a great story. I've played for over 20 hours and still haven't even completed half the game. The graphics and driving are much improved from GTA IV.
Being able to switch between the three main characters is interesting and awesome at the same time. It puts a great spin on the game that keeps you interested.

Rockstar outdid themselves this time. Massive map, tons to do and explore. You will never be bored with this game. Flawlessly switch between three main characters. Rockstar knew everything that gamers wanted to be included in the fifth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series, and delivered that and more. I'm obsessed.

Best in the series since 3.
Graphics in this game are good, but they are about the same as 4 and not as groundbreaking as I thought they would be.
Sound and music are good. I liked the variety of music stations, though not having a classical station was a let down.
Gameplay is great. I loved completing missions or random tasks, of which there are a lot, or just running around town and getting into trouble. The story is good, with three different characters, you actually feel like the characters. Each one has different missions, that make sense for the character. For example, in the past games they had rampage missions, where you kill as many people as possible. These never made since for the characters in the game, like Niko, but here they are available to the character that would engage in these types of events.
Basically the characters make sense. You won't rob a bank and kill 50 people and then have your character talk about how they abhor violence, like they did in 4. The game seems to be less serious, which I think is a good thing.
Overall this is the best in the series since III.

GTA has always been king in open world sandbox type of gameplay with excellent story-driven missions that have you interact with somewhat realistic and funny characters. You literally can do whatever you want in the city of Los Santos, which mimics the real city of Los Angeles. Great sound effects, from the music playing through a car's system to random dialogue heard by the various denizens of Los Santos. Quality and attention to detail can be found everywhere. There's a reason why GTA takes its time releasing another installment of the franchise and that's the amount of content and work that makes it a quality must-have game, even without considering the multiplayer component! At the moment multiplayer is barely working and the kinks are still being worked out, but that will only make this great game even better.

A Great Addition to the GTA Franchise

I found GTA 5 to be a great addition to the GTA franchise. Its fun, exciting, immersive and all around easy to play. It is so easy to get lost in the world of Los Santos and its surrounding areas that I found myself losing track of time and playing the game for many hours without stopping. So many times I felt as thought I was in a big budget Hollywood action movie, and what is great is the game allows you to play your favorite moments as many times as you want. The game also feature a great story that has three playable characters and tells is narrative in a very fluid and natural way. Thats not to say it does not have its problems. A few of them being poor textures when put under close scrutiny, occasional screen tearing, pop in, and frame dropping when the action gets heavy, but that is to be expected with how big this game is and how old the systems its being played on. Overall I would suggest this to anyone who has played a GTA game before and for anyone looking to jump in to the GTA world.

I wish this was on PC already. The aiming it a bit hard for precision shots. The game has an auto-aim target feature instead to help you out a bit, but at times this can be a blessing and a curse. The game performance while good in most cases does suffer some extreme FPS drops in certain situations and areas.
All of the above cons however are minuscule compared to the amazing story, cut scenes and acting in the game. The dialogue is hilarious and engaging at nearly all times and I find myself actually driving slower on my way to a destination where there is dialogue just to make sure I hear it all. Driving is improved and the quality of cars and handling is much better then previous titles.
Make sure you follow the game rating system, definitely not a game for minors and anyone under 15 as they have made the strip clubs in the game even more racy and provocative in addition to the loads of colorful language.
All in all, it is everything I expect from a game in the GTA series, and more.

This game is amazing. I'm usually not a fan of shooter stories but this one was solid and very enjoyable. Music is great. Content in both story mode and multiplayer is great. The only concern I have is the hackers online and hopefully that will get sorted out by Rockstar soon.

Grand Theft Auto V is a great game. The installment allows you to play as mutliple characters - adding some real dynamics to the storyline. The story is very interesting and there are tons of side missions as well as other activities. The map is huge... you can spend hours exploring. Overall, they did a wonderful job on the game and it is great fun but definitely not for any children or young teens. There are some very violent and adult themes throughout. But, being GTA, you should already know that. 4.5 stars

The storyline is wonderful. Having three diverse playable characters is brilliant. Music is flawless. Gameplay is vastly different from the other games. It's not just "drive here and kill this person". The setting and map is vast, wonderful. The NPCs all act as natural as ever. Being able to fly planes and being able to buy properties are incredible additions to the game that weren't in Gta 4. The cutscenes (walking into a place and it starting without a loading screen) were effective. One thing I disliked was that some missions started in the safe houses when all I wanted to do was save or change clothes. Luckily, you can now quick save on the mobile phone. The mobile phone has improved beyond recognition since gta4. I have not played multiplayer/online but I'm sure it's as wonderful as everything else. One thing I am excited for is if there will be DLC.

Makes you feel like you're in a great heist movie

This game makes you feel like you're in the movie Heat or The Score. The complex sets of missions that make up each major heist are some of the best gameplay to be found in modern video games. Besides the main storyline, there are hundreds of side-missions, hidden collectibles, and extra activities to participate in. The sheer amount of content in the game is worth the entry price.
The downside to such a large game world is that it sometimes feels artificial, and the graphics are a bit dated and occasionally bothered by glitches or bugs. As long as you're not a graphics snob nor averse to extreme violence and can appreciate very adult comedy and satire dealing with politically sensitive issues like racism and sexism, you will probably love this game.
I can only imagine this game will get even better when the online component launches on October 1st.

GTA V is by and far the BEST Rockstar game that I've ever played. It even blows Red Dead: Redemption out of the water, and that appears in my top 10 favorite games of all time. Everything from the graphics and sound to the gameplay are 100x better than GTA IV. I'm blown away by all of the little details that make the city of San Andreas feel so alive. When you threaten someone on the street, they'll say "I'm gonna call the cops if you don't back off". And sure enough, a few seconds later, you've got the 5-0 coming to haul you off to jail.
The attention to such minor, non-story related events just takes the cake for me. I love the heist-centric story too, and though I was admittedly skeptical at first, the 3 separate playable characters works incredibly well with the story and provides 3 unique gameplay experiences.
Overall, a must buy for any gamer!

I had been looking forward to GTA V for most of the year. I preordered it, and picked it up at midnight on release day. I've played every other GTA console game, and some of the mobile versions.
This version is huge, and the variety of non-story missions and activities is amazing. I've got about 40 hours into the game, and am about 45% complete as I write this.
Playing as 3 different characters is unique at first, but can be a little jarring when you're forced to change characters in the middle of a mission- it breaks the immersion. The variety of scripted missions is good, but it still boils down to 'watch cut scene, go to blip on map, wait for instructions' I'm still learning new things, though, so you may re-use them later in the game.
Driving around is cool, but for all that they tout a huge number of radio stations, it seems like there are less songs or shorter playlists on each station. I do like the news stories that relate to character events in the game, but for example, would a real station similar to the punk station, Channel X, actually carry 'Weazel News'?
And, without spoiling anything, there is a story mission that seems so repugnant and heavy-handed that it really gave me second thoughts about continuing. I finally justified it by reminding myself it was only a game, but there wasn't anything fun about that mission, and there wasn't anything satirical or funny, either. It was just, well, torture.
If you can get by that, though, the fun does return- BB's preorder bonus was the Atomic Blimp, and I laughed SO hard when I took it out for a spin, only to have a 747 fly into it just past the airport- it was so random & unexpected. Later, I got to drive an SUV out of a midair cargo plane and parachute to safety- not gonna do THAT in real life!

After GTA San Andreas came out I had really high hopes for GTA4. It was the first GTA game on the 360 and PS3 so of couse my expectations were high. Don't get me wrong it was amazing in the graphics and gameplay, but it lacked the diversity San Andreas had shown previously. Enter GTA 5. It literally built upon everything from GTA 4. Not only are the graphics near perfect, but they improved the shooting and driving mechanics, and brought San Andreas to life. As big as this map is, the city is extremely organic. Its tough to see the same thing twice. Plus the character customization is back. Something we didnt see in GTA 4. The missions are diverse and more user friendly. All in all GTA 5 perfect in everyway. Rockstar pushes the 360 and ps3 to the max on this one. You wont find a game anything like this as far as quality and diversity go. 10/10

GTA V is nothing short of amazing. The best iteration so far. The story writing and development is great. Typical Rockstar, very clever, and over the top. The three characters have their own charm and abilities which I'm sure will attract many different gamers. The world is huge, and Rockstar added so many activities for one to partake in. From the typical racing, and bullying pedestrians, to yoga, stock market investing, no expense spared. Though a lot of things must be unlocked by playing missions.
The game stays very true to the M rating, so lax parents should be made aware. No underage kid should be anywhere near this. The shooting and controls are a bit uncomfortable at times, and it is still very difficult to fly helicopters. Also, expect some pop in as this game world is huge and pushing the system to the max.

Many who played GTA IV felt that it wasn't quite up to par with some of the prior games. The graphics were great, but the story wasn't fulfilling and the gameplay was sketchy at times.
GTA V has taken everything loved about the previous games and made it even more amazing. The characters (3 this time) are interwoven into an amazing story. Each has his strong points, which makes for a very dynamic game. Missions can be run multiple ways, making the replay value very high. And the introduction of GTA Online? Pure gold.
Now... this is a very mature game. Don't play it around kids. Language, levels of nudity, depictions of "acts" that aren't exactly kid-friendly. Etc. If you've played the previous games you know that they aren't for the younger audience. This one steps that up a few notches. Just a heads up.
