Lives Up To Its Considerable Hype

There's a reason this movie did so well at the box office!! Performances aside (which are fantastic), the sheer scope of this movie is amazing, and ups the stakes for anyone trying a special-effects-heavy movie in the future. Cuaron is a truly gifted filmmaker, having impressed the world over with his contribution to the Harry Potter saga and the hauntingly powerful Children of Men. The movie keeps things moving at a brisk pace and doesn't overload the story with extraneous backstory; the viewer is given just enough to be able to relate to the characters. Features-wise, this set truly puts most others to shame with the breadth and scope of the features included. Sadly, I haven't been able to view this in 3D, yet. Amazing set.

I like this movie, but the movie itself is probably four stars. I am giving it five because the 3D version is one of the best home 3D experiences available. I recently set up a home theather with a 120 inch screen and projector capable of 3D so I was looking for movies to watch on my new set up. In my experience, outside of Avatar, Gravity makes the best use of the 3D effect. The shots are static and wide so its easy on the eyes. Current 3D technology requires a reduction in frame rate so sweeping shots can get choppy. The static shots and smooth pans in this film are designed to work around that limitation. If you are looking for a movie that really shows off the benefits of 3D this is a great purchase.

This movie blew all other movies out of the water. Being a fan of art and beauty around us, I was in complete awe with this work of art. I fell in love with it. The extras included with the DVD are great. Almost 3 hours of extra footage which shows you all the steps that the creators took in order to complete this film, which is just amazing. So precise with all details of the film. I have seen this movie so many times and still do not grow tired of it. Some say its boring or not thrilling, but I think otherwise. When you actually take a look at the film's attention to detail of earth and gravity, and see it from an artistic point of view, you understand how great of a movie this is. I love this film, hands down.

Excellent, Pulse-Pounding Space Film

This film left me on the edge of seat the entire time. It's none stop 'bad luck' driven on the main character leaves you guessing how in the world they will get to point A to B.
The only nitpick is the setup of the story, that China or Russia, would be naive enough (being that they are important partners in Earth Space Flight) to set off the chain of the events in the film casting them as the 'qausi'-villain that made the "bad stuff" happen. That aspect is contrived and frankly nonsensical. However, it's not explained further, which is not really important - the main aspect of this film is purely survival in space and nothing more.

Gravity Is Worth A Buy

Gravity is a horror movie, except without the normal tropes associated with the genre. You won't find monsters or aliens in this film. Nope, all you'll find is the absolute blackness and loneliness of space. The premise is simple enough - an astronaut gets trapped in space with her oxygen running low and fewer options. It's an edge-of-your-seat thriller and adventure, and it's only 90 minutes long. But the movie goes beyond its length and resonates with you even after the credits have rolled. The direction is top notch, the visuals equally beautiful and haunting. You are never left with a dull moment as you journey through the film with the protagonist, hoping she survives and makes it back to Earth.

This is an awesome movie.I'd watch it for the FX alone. The 3d is very cool with a few of the prerequisite "3d Moments" (Bolt flying at you...twice, but you knew that was coming) And the destruction of the shuttle scene is just (insert bad pun HERE)... PLANE... ART.
Dr. Stone's valiant struggle to stay alive (both physically and in her own mind) and make it back to Earth is one of Sandra Bullock's greatest roles IMHO,and you get to see her floating around in her undies.Oh,and Clooney's not bad either, although he doesn't get to do his patented look down at the ground, shy boy, move that the women love so much 'cause he's in his thruster suit the whole time.
All in all,a very enjoyable movie for everyone.

This movie is very very beautiful and the plot is interesting but poorly done on a number of levels. The science of the thing was not well done and it became very implausible a number of different times. Although they played up the action and reaction thing in space pretty much not much else was really well done. I'm unclear as to why many "space experts" are quoted as supported the science. I liked the story and found it interesting but I was left wanting much more - actually wanting some kind of a better ending than what we got. The other thing - the primary character seemed much too weak to have their role - astronauts are trained better. There was a lot wrong but we did like it. My kids were disappointed.

Even though I bought the 3D set, I've only been able to watch this movie
in 2D blue ray presentation so far, and have enjoyed it very much. I could only imagine how good 3D could be here, but will just have to wait until I can afford to upgrade my system. Even though I'm not a George Clooney fan, I bought this disc anyway and was pleased to see that his part is minor and Sandra Bullock is the main star. As far as the story goes, it is what it is, but who really cares when you are treated to such a visual feast that this movie presents, so if you were hoping for more than just a visual experience, than go back to any one of James Cameron's pictures & get a great story with all the action that this one has!

Great effects, likable actors overcome disbelief

Gravity is fantastic for its cinematography and effects alone. George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are likable and your concern for the characters overrides the unbelievability of the film. You have to carry a very large bucket of "suspension of" with you to overcome the "disbelief" and the director would have been better suited to rein the actors in occasionally from the ham. If you watch the movie for a wild ride experience, you won't be disappointed. Fantastic amount of extras on the BluRay are a great bonus. You will absolutely wonder how they filmed some of the things they did and the extras tell you. A buy if you like the actors and "ride" of the film, a rent if you're very literal in your viewing habits.

Good special effects, OK story

Because of the good special effects (3D, 2D isn't meaty as engaging), you can overlook the minimal plot. Also, the science involved isn't nearly that accurate, and the series of events that allow her to survive is quite laughable because of the improbability. Watch Apollo 13 or The Right Stuff for realism (because they're based on fact despite the luck involved). In rather real world, which it pretends to be, she, like her shipmates, would have been dead several times over.
Despite being one of the few decent 3D's out there, I think there should still have been more "in your face" debris coming off the screen, especially given the nature of the film.
Recommended, but only for the 3D space effects.

This movie had so much Oscars glory, it disgusted me, so I stayed away from seeing it for a while. I was not expecting much from this movie at all, but oh man... I wish I had seen this in theaters. The score and sound effects are incredible and impeccable! While there is some suspension of disbelief in the scientific accuracy in some instances, they in no way help to hinder the story. This film had me engaged, biting my nails, and on the edge of my seat the entire time. I cannot say the same for Tom Hank's Cast Away, but this film... if you love space, get freaked out in confined spaces, and if you even enjoy Sandra Bullock, you'll have an enjoyable time with this movie.

It's a slight shame because now that it is out on DVD/Blu Ray/Redbox etc. that some people will not get to experience this movie the way it was meant to be seen: in IMAX 3D. Never in all my years going to see movies was I as immersed into a cinematic world as I was when I saw this film.
While the film is not perfect (the script could've been expanded on a bit) it sits at a short 91 minutes. But in those 91 minutes, about 85 of it is some of the most exhilarating and exciting experiences that you can have.
I would highly recommend this film. I hope it is one of those ones on people's lists as must see simply for what it has accomplished with its advancement in visual storytelling.

A Technical Achievement

This movie was an amazing technical achievement. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. It's basically a "last survivor" adventure story (think Castaway or any other shipwreck movie) set in outer space. I have no idea how realistic it is, but it's very exciting and very well made. The special effects are nothing short of astonishing, and the directing choices give you very much of a "you are there while this is happening" feeling. The camera is almost another character that adds to the sense of confusion. If you have a 3D TV that is definitely the way to watch this film. The 3D adds a claustrophobic sense of depth to everything and is used about as well as I've ever seen in any movie.

This was an excellent film to watch. The cinematography with views from space were breathtaking. I'm obviously not an astronaut but this seems to be as the most realistic point of view in a film that I can imagine. The story reflects a sense of self fortitude, courage and survival. My only regret is that I didn't watch this on the big screen to have absorbed the full effect of the cinematography. But this is the next best thing, just watch it on a big tv set to get the maximum impact. I imagine owning the 3-D version would also be exciting, as there are several instances of things floating at you. Overall, I recommend this movie and merits the oscar's nomination for best director.

Each time I watch Gravity, I am on the edge of my seat! Even on the small home screen, the intensity is high! The special effects are awesome! This movie puts you in the center of the dangers floating around in outer space! Sandra Bullock's acting is so effective, I could feel the fear, hopelessness, coldness, lack of air, slipping in and out of consciousness, and being totally alone! I purposely over used exclamation points to make a point! After watching Gravity, the only way I could express myself is with an exclamation point!

I think Sandra Bullock has her best roll yet!! It is a slow moving movie but that's because there are only 3 people in the entire cast. The tension is palpable and convincing. The video is breathless in both it's picture and in the story. I went to this with a friend and they did not like it thinking it too slow. I don't know what to compare this too other then Tom Hanks in Cast Away. Sandra Bullock is on screen for the majority of the film and I think she nails it. George Clooney is in the movie as well but is playing,,,well, George Clooney, such a waste. Sandra Bullock is sooo much better. If you like less action and character studies I would recommend this

Loved the movie, and thought Sandra Bullock did an excellent job, though the real star was the environment. Since the review form said that you had to list what's not so great, I mentioned that there were some issues with how physics work in space, most though no one would notice, the only one that was glaringly obvious for me when Clooney cuts his cord to save Bullock, which in reality at that point would have actually had no effect, but was pivotal to advance the plot so I ignored it.
The Views of Space are just phenomenal, and when you see it in 3D you just feel like you can touch the space ship.
Overall I'd recommend everyone to see this!

Alfonso's Space Odyssey

Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity" may not as impacting and memorable as Kubrick's "2001" and the script may suffer in some areas, the film is still a visually intense and beautiful adventure. This film seems to be Cuarón's attempt to bring an art-house/sci-fi film, akin to something like Tarkovsky's "Solaris", to a Hollywood mainstream audience. And this is where the film soars. Insanely long takes and scenes, experimental cinematography, angles and perspective, are the true elements that make this film something more than just an effects based theme park ride. Just watch out for some of the over-the-top cheesy sentiment and screenplay issues.

Gravity has entered my top 3 all-time favorite science fiction films. The storyline, special effects, music, acting...all great.
The blu ray's 2D and 3D picture quality is superb. The 3D in Gravity is not over exaggerated and doesn't have gimmicky pop up or pop out effects. I was surprised to learn that this was converted because it is amongst the best 3D movies I've seen.
The audio is also great, although I hoped for a 7.1 channel surround release.
So far the extras are great. I enjoyed hearing about the movie's metaphors as well as learn about how the film was made.
This release should not be missed if you are a fan of the film!

Unusual Movie, In All The Right Ways

Not science-fiction, since it's not futuristic, and could happen today. Not cerebral, philosophical fare like Interstellar or Arrival. Not really an action-adventure movie, though there is some of that. More of a drama set in near outer-space. Amazing special effects that enhance and don't overpower the story. Short movie, at barely ninety minutes, with only two primary actors. Sandra Bullock is amazing; is there anything she can't do? Can't speak to the science, but I found the story believable, suspenseful and emotional. All in all, an unusual movie, in all the right ways.
