Over the last few years my wife and I have switched back and forth between various tax software packages as we've navigated our first joint returns, our first kids, our first home purchase. This year filing with H&R Block Deluxe was super easy and convenient. I particularly liked the ability to pull my W-2 from my employer's processing partner with just some simple pieces of information. I found that the import of my previous year's tax return (from a competitor !) was flawless as well. My refund ended up being about what I expected, and the software gave detailed explanations for the various ups and downs of my tax totals.

I've been using H&R Block tax software for the last several years. 2019's version is similar to the older versions I've used. The software walks you through every necessary step of the filing process, asks questions, and makes suggestions as to deductions and credits that can be taken. It worked great for me this year, and as always I highly recommend it for anyone who has average to slightly-above-average tax needs. If you have taxes that start getting complicated, like multiple properties and investments, odds are that you'll be going to see a professional. But, if, like me, all you have is a home, some pretty simple deductions, and kids, H&R Block's 2019 Deluxe Tax software is the way to go.

My wife and I have been using a major competitor of H&R Block Tax Software for decades. Even though we have become increasingly disappointed with the direction that that software has taken, we felt that moving our previous year’s rather complicated tax data (multiple employed family members filing, multiple countries, multiple states, multiple retirement income, multiple IRAs and 401Ks, multiplr RMDs, equipment amortization, etc.) into another program like H&R Block Tax Software would involve hours of hand entry of old data into the new Tax program. That concern was alleviated immediately when I installed the H&R Block Deluxe Tax Software onto the same laptop that I used to do and save taxes with the other company’s software last year. After starting the H&R Block Tax Software up, the first page announced that it had found the saved files from another tax program. It displayed the names of those files as I had saved them and asked me if I wanted to integrate any or all of those into this year’s tax data. I said yes to all of them and within a few seconds the H&R Block Tax Software showed another page asking which family member’s tax return I wanted to start with. From that point on, as it guided me through the process it showed me the 2018 forms as they were saved by the previous tax software and asked me if I had a 1099, etc. from the same employer and if I did, it asked me for the values showing up in a specific boxes in 2019’s W-4s and 1099s. Because of H&R Block Tax Software’s ability to find and use the other tax software’s saved files, it shortened the process to 10-15 minutes per filing. With decades in the tax preparing business, I naturally expected H&R Block to be able to help me prepare my taxes but in my particular case, what was most impressive was how easy the transition was from the other software was. Features: • Imports tax data from other tax preparation software. • Clear Step-by-step instructions • One personal state program download included • Guidance on maximizing mortgage interest • Accuracy checks for issues and assesses audit risk • Itemizes deductions with Schedule A • Free live product help via chat or telephone PROS: - This software is produced by a company that has been doing tax preparing for decades so you know they have experience and knowledge. CONS: - Since I control my tax liabilities pretty tightly during the year and don’t overly withhold, I never get a refund. Because of this, even H&R Block can’t magically make filing my taxes “FUN” ; ) Conclusion: This “Deluxe” version of H&R Block Tax Software is sufficiently for most of us. If you are also responsible for a business or are self-employed, you may need one of the more comprehensive premium versions.

This was my first time filing taxes via H&R Block PC software, I usually file on the website. Downloading the program on my computer was quick and easy, no issues at all and activated the software with the key code. It was incredibly easy to import all tax documents by way of PDF files and imported last year’s tax return as well. The program asks all the necessary questions and walks you through any questions you may have about filing your taxes. I was finished with my taxes in about 30mins. Filed with the IRS and return was accepted in less than an hour.

No, it doesn't really make filing your tax return fun. That's not possible. But it does make it a lot easier for the do-it-yourselfer that needs to itemize. Save your money and get the free version for doing a simple 1040. Like most tax software, it guides you through your return step-by-step. One of the features I like is that I can use images to enter W2s rather than typing in the information. For the majority of filers that need to itemize, H&R Block Deluxe Tax Software is more than sufficient to do the job and get the greatest possible refund.

I have been using TurboTax for the last ten years. I received a copy of H&R Block Deluxe Tax Software for evaluation. H&R Block Deluxe is just as good or slightly better than TurboTax. I just wish I had used the H&R Block software sooner. The software is very easy to navigate, and it guides you through the whole process of filing your tax return. It is very thorough of asking the necessary questions to find all of your available deductions. After using both TurboTax and H&R Block Deluxe, I plan to use H&R Block Deluxe in the future. Highly recommended.

I have used HR Block tax software as well as others. I prefer to use HR Block as I have had good results and for the following reasons: • Five free federal e-files and unlimited federal preparation and printing • Itemize deductions with Schedule A • Step-by-step Q&A and guidance on all available credits and deductions • Quickly import your W-2, 1099, 1098, last year's personal tax return • Free live product help via chat - or get tax help from a tax expert for a fee • Help Center has more than 13,000 articles, frequently asked questions, and tips in case you get stuck while preparing your taxes. I use the homeowners/investors deluxe version. You can use a physical cd (if you have a cd drive) or simply download the proper version for your tax needs. There are four different products available: Deluxe for Homeowners/investors, Deluxe + State, Premium for self-employed/rental property owners, and Premium & business. Once installed the program will automatically update as needed. Since I used it last year the program finds my personal date and inserts the information. I always review all entries. The program walks you thru the items to input and most brokerage companies will all download directly into the program. This is a big help. But again, double check every entry. I like the idea of five free federal e-files, but have only ever used two. If you have working children you can help them with their taxes. Just the word taxes are intimidating, but with the HR Block program a hard task is made much easier. I do like the ability to move around from form to form. And of course, the Help Center is frequently used while I am preparing the tax document. I do like to efile and know that my return is properly prepared. In sum for the price of the product the value received is excellent.

Love H&R Block tax software - I use it each year and am always satisfied with the offering. It is simple to use and incredibly intuitive. I had no issues filing my 2019 return and the IRS accepted the return within minutes! Very simple. All in all, I highly recommend this software.

We have been using the online version of this software for years. We decided to try the local version this time around. I suppose it was nice having the software directly on my computer. I guess I was expecting something different or improved that would make me want to stop using the online version and use this version instead. In the end I think I will just stick with the online version in future years. They both work great. I did appreciate not having to be connected online to work on my taxes. I also appreciated that it prompted me to import last years file (I had it in PDF) but it worked. Since I had been using the same version, just online, I did not find any new or missed tax credits. That was reassuring and nice to know that I was not missing something by using the online version. The screens are super easy to follow. I would recommend either the online version or this version.

With tax season just around the corner I was looking for something other than TurboTax given my recent purchases and change in lifestyle. I’m very pleased with H&R Block’s tax software. Very easy to use and efficient!

I've used Turbo Tax for years, however H&R got me a bigger refund! The questions were more intuitive, the only downside was it didnt give me the option to upload my W2

This software does exactly what it advertises. It makes filing your taxes easy and pain free. You simply answer it’s straightforward questions and it fills out all the right forms for you. If you forgot to add something, or receive another form later (but before you actually submit), it’s fairly straightforward to go back to the section you need to and update it. My one gripe with that is that once you do that, it should remember where you last were and when you hit next, it take you back. However, the way it works is that it will just continue from the point you went back to, and move through each section you’ve already completed, like you’re doing it for the first time. My biggest issue with the software, however, is that I don’t see the necessity of downloading it locally to your computer when they offer an online version that does the exact same thing. I’ve used the online version the past couple years, and this was my first time using the download, and I didn’t notice that this one did anything particularly different, other than installing the software on my machine. I guess there could be some privacy and security issues using the online version, so if that’s important to you, you can rest assured that there is no difference between this and the online version, at least as far as I can tell. Like I said at the beginning, the software does what it claims to do, nothing more, nothing less. That’s why it gets a middle of the road rating from me.

The H&R Block - Deluxe Tax Software - Mac|Windows is a decent middle of the road software for those seeking to do taxes themselves and avoid the commission of "tax professionals." This software installed quickly and was ready to run with the usual adds for upgrades and addons you would expect. The software was installed on my MacBook Pro but seemed grainy and was small only utilizing the middle portion of the screen making it hard to see and use for long periods. Additionally, I was never able to "upload" my 2018 tax returns from TurboTax which was one of the key components and features of this software to move away from this competitor. PROS - Reasonable middle of the road software with everything needed to do basic tax returns. - Generally easy to follow step-by-step process - Works for both Mac or PC CONS - Unable to upload previous years tax return for pre-populating data from competitor - Small screen display on MacBook Pro - Upgrade and Addon ads - Not a good fit for those who need advanced software for LLCs or small business ownership. After messing around with this for a few weeks, I have decided to go back to my previous software provider as it is a better fit for my needs and is more user-friendly.

Overall the software is good and easy to follow to get your taxes done. The issue I have is that you keep getting asked to pay more and then it costs extra to add states and to efile states. This is the same on all tax software I've used in the past, so better check the full cost to get states and efile both state and federal.
