Movies like these make History more understanding. I can remember briefly reading about Harriet Tubman in school but seeing this movie gives you a more detailed reality of what happen! I have certain doubts about certain scenes but this movie is good! Before she became Harriet Tubman her Slave name was "Minty", and she was married to a free man. She wanted to have children but wanted them to be born free and her Masters wouldn't allow it so she planned her escape that would make her travel 100 miles by foot. Once she made it to Freedom she knew she could never be happy without her Husband so she began her quest to return for him and stumbles to a whole new saddness... I dont want to give too much away but this movie is really awesome I would have liked it to be longer because I was soo into it!

The only critical comment I can make is the length of time for this film (125 mins. or 2 hrs/5 mins.), which doesn't do justice in capturing the life of one of this country's most recognized African-American freedom fighters and heroes...Harriet Tubman. There really needs to be a made-for-television series about Harriet Tubman's life and her significant contributions to the Underground Railroad in freeing hundreds of slaves. I'm digressing ...... the movie was excellent. The movie did do justice in capturing Harriet Tubman's courage and determination in overcoming many of the insurmountable obstacles from her escape to freedom, to her contributions to the Underground Railroad and the Civil War efforts in freeing countless numbers of slaves. As "must-see" for EVERYONE.

Harriet Tubman’s final words before she died (words Jesus also spoke to his apostles)... this is a nicely done film worthy of award nominations, which I left thinking after I saw it in the movie theatre. There are a few scenes that seem to drag and could’ve been shorter but it’s still a nice film overall.
The only thing I didn’t like was the spiritistic element being attributed to Harriet Tubman’s spells. Though she did suffer from spells due to a head injury, it wasn’t necessary in my opinion to give it a spiritistic connection, but hey...dramatic license.

This movie was an excellent portrayal of Harriet Tubman. In no way does this movie glamorize slavery, try to make white people the heroes of slavery or show Harriet in love with a white man. The people who said that are actually spreading lies and should have their comment removed. This movie shows Harriet's strength against all odds to free her people and unlike all other slaves movies is both enlightening, empowering, educational. I will be watching this movie with my four children and we will discuss the significance of her actions and the struggle.

A must see because the majority of Americans don't know more than what we heard from a teacher, decades ago. Sure, there's more that was not explained like her dealings with the woman's movement but I enjoyed what was done to bring her life to the full screen. People can continue to learn on their own once the spark is lite from this movie. C. Erivo was awesome. I learned so much about her rise to stardom and why she did such a great job. The music was basically centered around erivo's voice, also.

Harriet is a fine movie that will tug at the heart. Cynthia Erivo did an incredible job in the title role. The supporting cast was excellent as well. I believe everyone should see this movie to learn an important part of American history. However, parents should view the film first and decide if and when it is appropriate for their children to watch. The musical score was a fine addition to the movie. Would have like to have seen a more in dept extra about the historical significance of Harriet Tubman.

This movie brings all we know about Harriet Tubman to life. After all of her adventures rescuing folks from slavery, running from slave catchers, having her heart broken and constantly seeking God for help, she retired to Auburn NY. Her home is now the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn (near Fleming), New York. You will be glued to your seat until the end of the movie.

Harriet Tubman settled after the civil war in Auburn, NY, where I grew-up. I learned about her life in our public schools. However, the movie shines a bright light on her courage and those of other African Americans at a time in US history where whites treated them as property to be bought and abused as human beings.
Very compelling and inspiring movie to motivate all of us to create a more just society for all of us.

This is a really good movie based on historical events. It depicts circumstances surrounding Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. Harriet guided people out of slavery from the South to freedom in the North. Her strength, ability to lead and determination are portrayed by Oscar nominated Cynthia Erivo. She is truly believable in her role. Harriet is entertaining, enlightening and educational.

This was a great movie and history lesson. During "Black History Month (February) my entire family, including kids, watched this movie and their eyes were glued to it. Had to pause it during restroom breaks because nobody wanted to miss any part of it. Great reminder for those who were familiar with the story and her achievements and such a great part of history lesson for the others.

I was not expecting this movie to be as good as it is. I would definitely recommend it. My son saw the last fifteen minutes of the movie and he asked to see the movie from the beginning. This was unusual. He never wants to see anything but action movies. He rarely watches the entire movie; I usually see him looking at his phone. Watch this one.

Following Harriet Tubmans life first as a run away slave and later as a leader of the underground railroad in America, shows how far one person can go to erasing the stigma of slavery in our nation. Harriet is a powerful story of one women's journey to bring her country out of slavery and into a nation where men and women were finally free and equal.

I really enjoyed this film when I don't usually like biopics. It does a great job illustrating her work on the Underground Railroad without overexaggerating it. You really feel for her when she finds her husband has remarried and when her sister won't come with her. After all she's risked her life just to come free them.
I only had two complaints about the film. First I'm sure she never confronted her master as in that scene near the end because he certainly never would have let her go. Second, I wish they had done more with her time as a Union spy. It seems that was very important and she helped free more slaves there than all her work on the UGRR.
If you want a good biopic I highly recommend this one.

I enjoyed this movie because of its strong depiction of African Americans doing whatever they could to flee slavery. For the most part, the story is true to life, though some liberties have been taken for artistic or theatrical enhancement. But the basic facts are there and the cast did a wonderful job in presenting the narrative.
