Bad reception jerky video
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried to use this with a Moho Leaf Antenna and with the antenna it came with. The video was jerky and poor quality. I live within 5 miles of a broadcast station. I returned it and got my money back.

Excellent alternative to an expensive DVR or TiVo
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My DVD-RAM recorder was showing its age and I wanted an alternative to record TV shows off open (no decoder box) cable onto a digital medium (I.e. a computer hard drive). I didn't want to be locked into a TiVo subscription and I don't have a cable or satellite TV subscription with a bundled DVR. This fit the bill perfectly. It tunes in the analog cable channels I receive plus the local TV stations that come over cable for free in HD, plus a few other free HD channels I receive. The key is that I am not passing the cable signal through a decoder box. It only works for analog and "in the clear" (QAM) digital. The tuner comes bundled with software to allow recording of shows. It works very well for scheduled recordings, including repeat schedules (e.g. Every Sunday nite, 9:00-10:00pm). The programs are recorded in .ts file format, which requires just under 4GB (analog) or 5GB (digital HD) for one hour of recording, large compared to other video file formats like .mp4. Still, it's relatively cheap to buy a 1 TB hard drive these days, so that's not a huge disadvantage, just something to be aware of. I have it plugged into the USB port on a laptop, with The recordings going to an external USB 2.0 1TB hard drive, both of which I had already for my iTunes music library. The only other minor gripe is that while it's easy to start "instant" recording, I haven't figured out how to have it automatically stop recording 60 or 90 (or whatever) minutes later, which means you have to manually stop an instant recording. All in all, though, I'm very pleased with this purchase, and more importantly, so are my wife and 10 year old son.

Works better than I thought
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a way to record High def television on my Quad cord computer running MS Windows Vista. I first bought the Hauppauge 850, but I soon found out that it would not record QAM from cable, so I returned it and bought the 950Q. I tried using the Windows Media Center, but it didn't have a QAM tuner. I installed the tuner on a Windows 7 PC, and the Windows Media Center software worked great. It was very easy to schedule recordings. However, I didn't like the format of the recordings. I wanted a format that I could use in my video editor. I eventually was able to install the WinTV software that came with the tuner. At first, I had a lot of problems with the install, probably due to my anti-virus software. Once installed, it worked better than expected. I have not had any problems with it locking up so far. I figured out how to configure the software to record in mpeg-2 format, so now I can play the videos on my Blue-ray player, or use them in my video editor.

Works great with Windows 7 Ultimate
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great tuner and I've tried different brands. This is a keeper for me. The only problem with it is the remote will not work at all just using Windows Media Center othewise I would give this a 5 star rating. I find no need to install/use the WinTV cd. Not sure if you have to install WinTV to get the remote to work. Instructions don't say so. I can just use my wireless mouse anyway. You should not bother with the included antenna. Get the Mohu Paper Thin Leaf indoor antenna. Does any one know how to get the remote functioning?

Take that, Dish Network
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased Hauppage 950Q while away from home on business. Installed in minutes on my Windows 7 Home edition laptop; searched and found 7 local broadcast channels. Watching TV within 1/2 hour of start of install. Wasn't sure how it would work in my home location; live outside of town kind of down in a valley. Erased the channel database and scanned for my home channels; worked great, got FOX, CBS, NBC, PBS and another local METV station that I didn't even know existed! I also installed product on a 9 year old Windows XP Pro desktop, my children bet me it wouldn't work---works great! No problem with install or drivers. One thing I've noticed is the appliance does heat up with use. I'm going to purchase another so those at home can use it when I'm on the road.

Great TV Tuner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this tuner with a small antenna to receive local broadcast TV. The picture is great with full HD. I use it for recording TV shows also. I have it connected to my desk PC. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Works great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I caught this gadget on sale for $49.95 but even at full price it's a great gadget. My niece did not have a TV in her dorm room in college but she did have a laptop so this was a cheap way to get her a TV. I liked it so much I bought one for myself as well. It's handy when your regular cable box/DVR is tied up and you need to record something else simultaneously. The Titantv.com website makes it really handy to record shows that although some of my unscrambled QAM channels would not record by clicking on the website. You could however manually set up a recording so that worked okay. Note that unlike some other reviews, you do NOT need an extra infrared receiver to make the remote work. There is an infrared pickup on the device itself although the cheap little remote is a little bit flaky. The buttons pushed very hard. It's really just easier to control the thing on your computer. Overall a wonderful gadget highly recommended.

Does What It Is Supposed To..
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation was a breeze. Time consuming due to the unnecessary channel scans since most people plug in to set top boxes and only need channel 3 or 4. The remote is a nice touch but useless if you have a cable/sat box since you'll be using its remote anyways. Even more so if you also have a DVR like me because you'll probably not be saving anything to the computer. We use the included remote exclusively for turning on/off the TV application and controlling the volume. The only flaw that cost it a star was the lag from the remote to my cable box. About 2-3 seconds. More like 5-7 seconds in WMC. But it is tolerable once you get used to it.
