Many appreciate its compact size, good battery life, and the clear display. I sent a gift to someone in psychiatric locked facility. They do not have access to anything else there and batteries is a problem. So, to be able to charge it from the wall outlet is a great help.

Awesome, Best HD Radio on the Market

This radio, by far has the best reception of any HD radio I've used. It also has better reception than many analog radios. Battery life, on a fully charged system, lasted just over 10 hours for me, and I used it all day. PROS Great price. You can't beat $50. Best HD reception I've ever seen in the home/desk market. It doesn't beat the auto HD radios, but, it's better than any tabletop one I've played with. Great display of Song Title/Arist data of HD broadcasts (what's called PAD) Support for Song Title/Artist data on non-HD broadcasts (what's called RDS). This was a HUGE surprise for me, because most HD radios leave this feature out for some stupid reason. Thank You! Great Battery Life. Works great in the car with an 1/8" to 1/8" cable to your AUX IN. Basically, you can treat this HD radio like you would an iPod or other MP3 player in that regard. CONS It doesn't display the Album information on HD broadcasts (or PAD). Many stations transmit it. Most HD Radios don't display it. This is a mistake. I'd recommend another display mode on an HD broadcast when you press the "Enter" button. Right now there are two displays, a large font one showing you just the current channels data. Another one, with a smaller font, that shows you all HD1, HD2, HD3 channels data. I'd want to see another one that used the font size the three lines for the current channel only. One for Title, one for Artist, one for Album. I wish it had iTunes Tagging. With the USB cord for charging, add another button and you're almost there. I wish it had more presets. 10 is too limiting given all the new radio stations you can hear (HD2 and HD3 stations). I could easily fill 15 of them, and I'm not in a major city. On analog broadcasts where it shows the Song Artist/Title (RDS data) I wish the enter key would change the longer field, the RadioText, to the smaller font, and then did word wrapping across the three lines of text that would be available in that mode. I found a bug in the receiver, for analog broadcasts, where the smaller field (called the PS, or station name) which is displayed next to the frequency, does not display properly if there is a space in first character of the field. It just shows blank. i.e, a station is allowed to send 8 characters to this field, and they often scroll the artist/title/station name in there. If they send "12345678" everything shows up. If they send "1234567" everything shows up. If they send " 1234567" -- NOTHING shows up, it looks blank. I've had my hands on a bunch of RDS receivers, and well, this is the first one to ever exhibit that behavior. Many broadcasters center this field, so if it's not 8 characters, they add spaces to the left and the right to make it look better on most receivers. Earbuds supplied with the unit are too big. They hurt my ears and basically don't fit in. And I'm told I have big ears!!! I ended up using my iPod earbuds or other high end Sony headphones with this unit to listen. I wish it had some MP3 capibilities. Perhaps a memory card slot for an SD card so the unit could play some MP3s too.

This is a really great little HD Radio actually, I’m amazed at how good it is tuning to all my local FM and HD Radio stations, it easily tunes to HD1, HD2 and HD3 you can also save any of those as favorites for quick tune up as well. Audio quality is superb, sounds better than a CD for sure, I wish music streaming services would adopt this audio quality. It also remembers the last station you were tuned into even if it was an HD2 or HD3, something other HD Radios won’t do, so that’s a plus for me, I personally bought it so I could tuned into HD stations while on my car since my new car does not come with HD Radio and I was missing that from my previous car, It comes nicely packed with a belt clip, USB cable for charging and nice pair of earbuds, can’t ask for more for the price, I absolutely love it. I would recommend it to anyone.

I just wanted this for listening to the radio at work. This is very light. The display is big and clear. Without an antennae, it does pick up the signals well but I do have trouble in a couple of spots. Programming the memory buttons isn't very intuitive though. The battery lasts a long time. The sound quality is digital but will of course depend on your headset, which it does not come with. Fortunately, it has the standard earphone plug that most portable devices use.

No background noise, fair reception for my area. Nice fature is the easy of recharging the batteries. Nice features include name of songs or show on some stations, visual station identification, Easy of finding your favoite channel, either preset, scan or step up and down. Nice belt clip. I recommend purchasing the two year warrenty, just incase it craps out.

This is a great product for walking in NYC. You receive all of the FM stations with great sound if they are in HD, as well as the HD side stations which may include popular local news, sports, or talk stations - WCBS, WINS, WABC, CBS SPORTS NETWORK, ESPN TALK RADIO. The only problem is that the radio is a bit flimsy and easy to damage - this is my 3rd one, but still worth it to have a compact device for good FM sound. You ca also attach it to your stereo receiver and get static free sound on the HD music stations.

I got mine and setup was very easy to do. I plugged in the digital radio into my computer to charge it up, then I wanted to try it out. It was great sounding. To prove it, the local station sounds CD quality. I tried the digital radio on my stereo system, it sounded much better than just the included earphones. So this I would recommend this radio for people who have boomboxes. and stereo systems. Now for being a the first HD walk man today, it passes. But there is one problem, not all HD radio stations under the test last night did not come in, and if they did, the conditions, and less obstructions such as computers, and being close to the wireless internet router could reduce signal quality, why? I was able to get most of the stations in HD in the living room than my bedroom where the Wifi router was located. Also the stations have to be very strong just like you are getting an radio data system signal and stereo signal. Now for outside, this radio is highly recommended for portable use, but before you go out, make you charge it up and go jogging or errands.

This HD Radio by Insignia provides high quality reception of both HD stations and simple FM stations. Its size and weight are ideal for an active user. There is no power-on indicator and the color screen's illumination goes blank after a preset time. That feature does save battery power, yet the user without earphones in place will need to press any button to know if the device is still powered on. All-in-all, this easy-to-use portable radio will provide many many hours of listening pleasure.

I bought my radio online since I don't have a Best Buy near me and when I got it, the reception is awesome for 60-70 miles! I also get HD radio from Wichita Falls which is 79 miles away. Even though I kept hearing about the AM HD and the earphones, but the radio is a very tight opening.

There is a lot of capability for the small size of this portable radio. I like the static-free reception. I especially like receiving the additional sub-channels that several stations in the Seattle area provide. The station that I normally listen to has a total of four channels, each with different programming; with analog reception I would only get one channel. I would miss the extra channels. It also does not need a subscription!

Good sound on the HD stations. Lightweight and decent headet. However, flimsy control buttons and the way they are arranged seem odd to me. The screen scratches really easy and it only has 10 presets which really isn't enough for a radio only unit.

I bought this radio to use at work and on the go. It is small compact and very light. Battery life is excellent and I only need to charge it about once a week. The HD radio feature works great and gives you lots of variety. I do wish it had an AM radio band but beyond that it is great.

I purchased this with the original intention of it being a cheap way to deal with a stereo tuner that no longer had good reception. This device has been great. Not only is it portable but with the use of a common cable, I can connect it to an auxiliary input on my tuner and get back great reception, with the added bonus of the additional HD channels it picks up now.

I live in a small town about 30 miles east of Cincinnati and I was a little weary of trying HD radio. I heard of weak reception in rural areas like mine. Also, I couldn't afford the $150 + price tag. I saw this portable HD radio online for $50 and decided to give it a try. I'll admit I was shocked. Every Cincinnati station came in. Only one was hard to keep coming in. WYGY-HD1 (97.3-1) was the toughest to get in HD, but it was staticy in analog. I couldn't recieve dayton stations in HD, but they had better reception in analog than any other radio I own. This radio has made me a believer in HD. It is a well built unit. I have no complaints. Also, using a patch cord, I can hook it up to my home stereo. This radio can hook up to anything with a 3.5mm aux in jack. I will definitely recommend this unit to all my friends and family. Insignia has made a product that is certain to bring HD radio to the average american.

This is my third radio - I always buy the extended warranty. As other reviews have mentioned eventually the radio stops to function or reset. Usually after about a year. The last one lasted longer than the original and the new looks like it has a new software upgrade. Maybe it will last longer. I run alot and as far as I can tell this is the only digital radio small enough to carry when running (it has a clip you can attach to shorts) ... and I did alot of research. I am a news junkie and the local PBS station has 4 digital channels, one which is all news. The sound is excellent and a great radio as long as it works.
