Seen it many times but never this clear in home tv ! This blu-ray is almost as good as 4K ! And i don't think they lost any quality in transfer , or they smoothed it out ? But i thought at the movies years ago it was not this clear ! Its a watch when company gets boring , this will liven it up for sure . Its all crazy naturally look who is in it ! He is a complete nut job and i doubt that reality that's him all day long . Some stuff you can see was taken from vaudeville and that's the fun of it .

    Highest Anxiety

Mel Brooks does another of his classic send offs. This time he parodies the Alfred Hitchcock thrillers. What gives it less than 5 stars is the fact that Hitchcock had also added humor into his films at times. A spoof works a little less humorous in this case than when you lampoon something that is highly self-important and therefore setting itself up for ridicule. Other than that, it has a great comic cast, and lots of lampoons to curl your mouth into a grin, if not out and out laughter.

Just after becoming the director of the Psychoneurotic Institute for the Very, Very Nervous, Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke (Mel Brooks) is greeted by a series of mysterious events. When his colleagues -- including the militaristic and mustachioed Nurse Diesel (Cloris Leachman) -- become leery of his questions, they accuse him of murder. Thorndyke's own mental health comes into question as he struggles to clear his name in the midst of a crippling bout of a condition known as "high anxiety."

Second Tier Brooks, but Still Great!

This is one of Mel Brooks' loopiest films. Though not as classic as "Young Frankenstein" or "Blazing Saddles" (but few comedies are!), it is still crazily funny. If you're at least a little bit familiar with Alfred Hitchcock's films, you'll get that it's a homage/spoof of his most famous ones. Brooks is good, but the supporting cast is great, particularly Cloris Leachman, Harvey Korman, and Madeline Kahn. Some of the jokes haven't aged well, but the majority of them have. Recommended!

I have always considered this one of Mel Brooks better movies. As for the DVD it Blueray version that I purchased has a couple of good extras. The 1/2 hour feature on the relationship to Hitchcock and making of the film is pretty good. It also has option to have a fun stress test play during the movie. Question that you have to answer to get feedback will pop up on screen as movie runs.

I love Mel Brooks films, but this one to me does not quite reach the top tier of his films. It is funny, and he shoots it as much like Hitchcock as he can. I almost think he made it more to make Hitchcock laugh than the fans he has from Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs. This is still funny, but you have to work a little harder to get all the jokes. But for $5 on Blue-Ray, it is still a good movie to have.

If you have not watched any Mel Brooks films, this is a good introduction. It's a silly satire that is funny and very entertaining. Mel Brooks, Madeleine Kahn, Harvey Korman, and Cloris Leachman show us who the true icons of comedy are. I never get tired of watching this film. This film is a classic and should be in any comedy collection.

Ask most layperson movie fan their top Mel Brooks films and you're likely to hear Blazing Saddles, History of the World Part 1, Space Balls, or Young Frankenstein. 1977's High Anxiety often gets overlooked but is well worth the watch. Blu-ray looks better than any version prior, and if you catch it on sale at Best Buy do yourself a favor and snag it. Enjoy

Mel Brooks does it again, mashing up classics with his wacky humor and great comic actors to keep you laughing nonstop, especially if you know Vertigo and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Be sure this is part of your classic comedy movie collection.
