    excellent, but not perfect

I've been a Windtunnel user for many years now. I've compared it to Dyson and Oreck, and Hoover has picked up more than both. I have been waiting for Hoover to introduce a Windtunnel that did not lose suction. The Platinum bagless upright surprisingly picked up a decent amount of fine dirt that my previous Windtunnel left behind. You can feel the power from this vacuum and it does not lose suction. The electronic height adjustment is a very high-end feature that I am excited to have. It makes it very easy to go from room to room and to and from area rugs and bare floors. The brush roll shuts the vacuum down if something is lodged in its path - a nice new feature. The bin is easy to empty, but tricky to close. Too bad a self-propelled model is not available, but it is not very difficult to push. It is a phenomenal vacuum for cleaning carpets and bare floors. However, above floor cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. Although the wand/hose is very accessible, the hose is very short and a hose extension is not available. The brush/upholstery tool is very small – it looks like something on a $50 vacuum. Hoover did not include a powered hand tool or additional extension wands, like on their previous machines. I don’t know why Hoover would include less attachment on their new top-of-the-line machine. Aside from the hose and attachments, it is an outstanding machine. I give this vacuum 5 stars for cleaning ability, but 4 overall because of the shortcomings with above floor cleaning.

    Platinum Vacuum Makes Cleaning Fun!

The Hoover Platinum Cyclonic Upright does the best overall cleaning job i've ever experienced with a Hoover model...beating out the Hoover Complete. As promised, it does NOT lose suction. And it eliminates the mess made when emptying out the soon-to-be-discontinued Hoover Windtunnel 2 "color" models (green, red, orange, yellow units). My only complaint is that for $450.00, it does not have more tools (i.e. a bare-floor cleaning brush), found on the Hoover Complete (green unit) that this unit has just replaced in my home. But if you're more concerned with cleaning performance, and less concerned with features such as tools / accessories, you will NOT be dissapointed! Also, the controls (i.e. carpet height settings) are much easier to operate than on most previous Hoover upright vacuums.

Love this vacuum. So far the best vacuum I have ever had. Makes my carpets look like new and I have 3 labs and a cat. Not to heavy . Easy to push. The buttons on the handle makes lowering or raising the beater bar so easy. The suction is incredible. Love the long cord. No more bags-easy to clean. Using the hose is so easy and convenient.

Best Carpet Cleaner I have ever had and at 89 year

I first bought a Dyson as I have heard so much about them. After assembling it and cutting my fingers trying to get into the box i found the assembly took quite a while. The Hoover was easy to assemble only took 15 minutes. My wife does not use the tools that come with it so she was happy to not have a lot of junk as she calls it hanging on the sweeper. The ease to set the height from the convenientlly located on the handle just a bit down from the on off switch. No need to bend down and raise the cleaning head as with older sweepers. The wife likes the cleaning indicator that changes color when the carpet is thourouly clean.

    Great on Floors

We've had this vacuum for about 3 weeks now and it does an excellent job picking dust and very small particulates that we never knew were hanging around in our carpet. Our house is only a year old but it's disgusting to see what was pulled out of our carpet after the first use. The smell eminating from the trash can after literally emptying about 10 full canisters was really horrible. I'm glad to know that it's out of the carpet now though. We initially got this vacuum because our son has just been diagnosed with ashtma and we wanted to do something to improve his quality of life. It hink we made a good decision. The entire house smells so much cleaner now. The canister is easy to empty but fills up fast. We have an 1800 square foot house which is primarily carpet and even after regular vacuuming I have to empty the canister 3-4 times. I guess that's a great testament to how well it does at picking up dirt, but can also get a little annoying. Also on the annoying side is the middle chamber of the vacuum that is almost impossible to clean. I searched all over the instruction manual for how to clean out this middle chamber between the suctions tubes and the main dirt bin, but there was no mention at all like no dirt is supposed to be collecting in it. It gets filled with very fine powder and dust and eventually it started to cake on. I finally reverted to taking the whole canister outside and spraying a water hose in one of the small access points. It was effective in cleaning the chamber but it doesn't feel like I should have to resort to that for normal cleanings. The hose seems short initially but streatches an incredable amount if you really need it too. It just requires a bit of force to get it stretched fully. The attechements are really basic and seem like they belong in a mini vacuum rather than a full size vacuum. I guess it really doesn't matter for the edge attachment but the brush attachment is almost useless. I would not recommend this for stairs at all. Some kind of roller attachment would be nice. Overall, I would highly recommend this vacuum as it does a great job on floors which is why we got it and why most people will also.

    Great vaccuum cleaner

I was really impressed with the suction power of this machine and a bit embarassed about how dirty my carpets really were. It really picks up everything! The controls are easy to operate and the extra long power cord is nice. I wish they would have made the vaccuum hose longer as it is difficult to clean above the floor or around appliances. We have solved this problem by using the extension wands from our old Hoover. I was a bit worried that it would be cumbersome without the self-propel feature that our old model had, but It manuevers easily over both carpet and tile floors. It is a bit messy to empty, and if you're not careful about what your running over, items can get sucked up and clog the machine. I accidently sucked up a sock that lodged in the upper cavity of the vaccuum. It wasn't difficult to remove, but was a dirty task. Nevertheless, I am quite pleased with the purchase.

I have found that, This Hoover out does even my Dyson Dc-17 that I paid well over 400.00 for, the carpet's look brand new when Im done. I cant belive the amount of dirt that is pulling up ot of the carpet compared to the dyson, I was reading the other two reviews. Im not sure if the other person just is not closing it right but I have opened my bin four times and no problem closing it. AS for the other person you can use the other hoover tools on it as long as they are the type where the pipe fit in the inside of the attachment', not the very old style from hoover where the pipe went over the out side of the cleaning tool and had a pin on the cleaning to hold it on. but any way I would recommend this to any that has kid's and pets. I love the height setting that on the handle , this is one of the nice' s hoover upright vacuum's that I have used, also it out does any other brand out there now, I have one more thing to say "Dyson watch out" You have a new kid on the block.

    Great Vacuum!

This Hoover is a great quality vacuum. Best Buy had the best price, and I checked at least 6 other online stores including the one that boasts having the lowest prices. Our kitchen is hardwood and the vacuum very nearly propels itself across the floor! It is a pleasure to use after our old vacuum. Plus, I would swear it has a new car smell to it, but maybe that's because our old vacuum gave off a smell like dirty sweat socks. The only tiny complaint from me is that the canister door does not close as easily as it opens. I have to push the latch in by hand, but that's not really a big deal. All in all, a great deal from Best Buy.

    Not worth the high price

We purchased when it first came out and paid a high price for it. The attachments are poor and only two. The hose detaches from the handle easily when you are using it, very annoying. The cup fills up fast and has to be dumped frequently. This may be an indication of it picking up a lot of debris, but our older bagged hoover did not have to be dumped as often and seemed to clean better. The inside chamber got dirt in it almost immediatey and it can't be removed, it is unsightly. Have had it 11 months now. It lost suction and quit picking up appropriately. Called Hoover for a service contact. They said if it is a clog the warranty will not cover it. My husband has checked it and we can't find a clog. Took it for service, they say it is a clog. They also recommend changing the lifetime filer annually. Does Hoover know this? I am very disappointed. We still have our old windtunnel bagged vacuum and it gets used in the garage and still works great.

    Hoover Has a Great History

I have had 2 Dyson's -- the last 1 was in for service more often than I had it at home. This Hoover is lighter, vacuums as well or better than the Dyson. Has a great warranty too, a year longer than Dyson. I like the simple attachments, but the reach is pretty short. It is so easy to go from floor to thick carpet. Which Dyson didn't do that well....I would have too go back and forth several times to get the dirt up off the floor. Not so with the Hoover. The canister takes both hands to close after emptying the dirt. My only wish is for this American company to bring these jobs back to the states. But it is almost impossible to find this product made in America.

    Best Vaccuum Ever

I bought this vacuum because I have bought cheaper ones before and I have learned my lesson. Spend a little more and you get what you pay for. I had Eureka, Hoover, and Dirt Devil. You will love this vacuum. It has a very long cord, a sensor that tells you when your carpet is clean, lifetime on the filter (which I paid $30-$40 in the past twice a year for my other vacuum) and a cyclonic system which has the best suction on a vacuum. I would definitely recommend this vacuum and you will love it too!!!!

I have had this vacuum for about 3 weeks now. The first time I used it I couldn't believe the amount of dirt it pulled out of my carpets. I was embarrassed at how "dirty" my carpets were, and I cleaned them on a regular basis. Three week later it continues to amaze me at the amount of dirt it is pulling up. I love the feature that lets you know when an area is clean. It is also very easy to change the brush level just with a touch on the handle. My carpets look great and feel great to walk on!!!

Bought this vacuum on sale & have been extremely happy with the performance. I have a dog & vacuum several times a week & this vacuum has been super so far. Has a nice long cord on it. This vacuum works great on hardwood floors also, it sucks everything up. The canister comes off easily & is easy to empty without making a mess. The hose is on the short side but I don't use that feature anyway. Vacuum was worth every penny in my opinion!

Researching product, I knew I was getting a great vacuum but price was much lower than I'd heard. Turned out this version does not contain the motorized hand held brush for carpets and furniture. But that's OK with me as I saved more than $150. I wouldn't pay that much for just that item on its own so glad I saved the $$$. The vacuum does a great job on picking up pet hair, etc. The level adjuster for carpet height really works well. Only complaint is that the hose does not have an extender. Fortunately, the extenders from my previous Hoover fit it so I use that. If you have a Hoover you're replacing with this, strip it of its accessories and try it on this one before you pitch!

I did a lot of research, tried several others types, considered a Dyson or equalvalent and took the plunge on the hoover. Thusfar, we are very pleased with its performance. The 6 yr warranty is also the best out there. Take the plunge because this one sucks it all up. You'll be happy.

    Better than a Bissell

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this to replace my year old Bissell (pet hair version). I have high carpet and two dogs and the Bissell was not doing the job. This vacuum after a month is still great. I really like that the push button height adjustment on the handle. I can go from the carpet to hard floors without stopping to reach down to the front of the vacuum...just push the button on the handle--great. It is also nice and quiet. One "bad" thing is when doing hard floors the exhaust for the vacuum is under the dirt cup and can blow around the dog hair before I can pick it up. The other thing is that it does not come with a "turbo tool" attachment. You have to buy this separately. The hose is not very long so dont plan on going too far from the vacuum to go along the baseboards. Other than these minor "problems" the vacuum is great. Worth every penny.

    Great Vacuum Worth Every Penny.

I work in Best Buy Appliances and want a Dyson, but this vacuum works just as well so far and costs a lot less. We vacuumed our apartment floors with the Bissel we were unhappy with. The floors were free of most dirt. We bought this vac the same day and vacuumed. It shocked us at how much dirt it picked up. We knew it would pick up some after the Bissell, but we did not expect it to nearly fill the large canister. The "Clean/Dirty" light is very helpful and at first I thought, "well the carpet looks clean, that light is wrong..." Then I emptied the canister and discovered it was getting so much more dirt than I every expected. That light is awesome. Also, having a 40' cord is sweet. Wish it was auto-rewind like the other hoovers, but I'd rather have this quality than that perk.

Spend the extra $$ and be satisfied

Take it from a cheapskate husband: read the reviews and spend the extra money to buy a machine that gets the job done. We've had this guy a little over a year now and are extremely happy with it. Heavier and more expensive than other vacuums, yes, but it's worth it to see the amount of stuff it gets up. I'm not just talking pet hair, lint and carpet fiber (gets them all very well) but TONS of fine powdery dust. I've run it immediately after vacuuming with another vacuum and we were happily disgusted by the amount the other vacuum missed but the Hoover got up. Combine that with the clever Clean/Dirty sensor light and vacuuming has become a sickly satisfying little chore. Also does great on hard surfaces where I have to keep it moving or it can suction-cup itself to the floor (Not hard to budge and you can view it as either mildly irritating or satisfying, your choice). Also, never just release the canister latch while holding it a foot or two over the trash can; instant dust cloud ensues. Lower the canister down into your trashcan so the stuff doesn't have far to fall and, if possible, empty it outside or in the garage.
