It’s amazing to watch the Rogue do its thing and then see the routine dirt and dog fur that gets picked up. I always thought robotic vacuums were probably more of a gimmicky luxury that I could do without. Boy, have I been proven wrong. The convenience of being able to let the vacuum do it’s thing while I get other things done has been wonderful. Plus, if you are a pet owner staying ahead of the pet fur is half the battle. Setup was pretty easy and straight forward. Manuals, packaging and instructions are designed with a bit of creative wording and flair which is kind of fun compared to the typical blah presentation. Installed the iPhone app which is straight forward to use. The Rogue runs a recon mode to map out one’s house which can be used to set virtual boundaries that are off limits. Schedules can be set-up to program run times. The Rogue indicator lights will show battery charge, WiFi connection and need to empty dirt cup. When operating the vacuum has an acceptable noise level and proficiently navigates around objects and over things like area rugs. It is very rare that it gets stuck anywhere or can’t navigate out of a tight spot. I feel that the cleaning job it does is quite good and the investment is worth it to take one routine cleaning chore off the to-do list.

I should have read the reviews more carefully. The app will not connect the robot to WiFi. Thus, I cannot access any app features. I decided not to try the vacuum using the manual buttons on top of the robot because I want one I can control remotely and schedule. This thing was a big waste of my time.

First, customer support from Hoover is dismal. Second, the vacuum part of this machine works very well. Third, the technology of the machine is abysmal. It will never connect to the server; it constantly has connection issues; I'm a tech guy so it isn't my setup. This was one of the worst purchases I've made in the last ten years. Rarely do I regret a purchase. I regret this one.

If you told someone that was vacuuming their floors 20 or more years ago that someday there would be a device that vacuumed the floor completely on its own they would have laughed at you. But here we are. Can it get any easier? To get started find an adequate place for the dock with enough room for the vacuum to be able to dock. Then do the initial charge which can take up to 3 hours. Once charged you download the Hoover Home app. I was able to find it on the Play store, but it didnt come up in the search at the time of this writing because the app is still “unreleased”. But I found it by searching “Hoover” clicking the Hoover app, then saw the “Hoover Home” app in the other apps section. After install it takes you through the initial steps. Turn on Bluetooth, set up an account, then add device. The app has some bugs that I am sure can be sorted with updates. But when it works correctly you can use it to schedule cleaning times, use the Smartwall technology to be able to do things like set up areas that are off limits, and use the app like an Radio Control car if you want to combine fun with cleaning. Joking aside its cool to be able to control just about every aspect of what you want it to do. The vacuum itself is awesome. It cleans exceptionally well despite its size, even getting up larger stuff that you would think it wouldnt be able to handle. The initial run does a “Recon” to map out the area. It will then remember the floor plan. And I really like that it will automatically dock when it needs a charge. It has a Dirt cup full indicator, and will also alert you in the app if you are using it. The dirt cup is easily removed to dump, and the filter can be rinsed off when needed. Cleaning the side and brush rolls is easy as well. Once its fully set up and on a schedule this is the only thing you'll even have to remember to do, since it cleans and charges on its own. We have come so far with tech it never ceases to amaze me. And with an automatic vacuum its just one less thing you have to do, which frees up more “Me” time. Overall this is an awesome time saving device. I know that some might not be happy with the app at first, but there is one good thing about software and firmware these days. It is easily updated to fix issues. In the past you got what you got. So give the app a chance. Since its in the “unreleased” state at the time of this writing Im sure they are working on getting it all perfect for the full release. Now this is on Android, Im not an IOS user so Im not sure about the status of that app. But even without the app its still great. It does what its suppose to and thats clean and charge on its own. And it does that very well.

Excellent design undermined by buggy software

I really wanted to love this Rogue robotic vacuum. With the ability to create a digital map of an entire floor, above average navigation skills, and decent cleaning capability, the ingredients were all there. But the software, both for the control app and on the device itself, is plagued with bugs which undermine the value of what would otherwise by one of the best offerings on the market. Pros: - The unit can create a digital map of an entire floor, and a mobile app allows placement of virtual barriers on the map. This completely eliminates the need for the old style magnetic strips or other "virtual wall" devices used by other vacuums. - The hardware is very well designed, with good suction, an easy-to-empty bin, and excellent obstacle avoidance. I found that this unit handled getting onto rugs and around chair legs and other obstacles better than any others we've used. - Navigation skills are also very good, with the unit never seeming to lose track of position even when it gets a little turned around while bumping into obstacles or climbing onto rugs. - The mobile app allows you to check the status of the device, see the map of your home, and even see the location of the device on the map in real time. - Hoover claims 2 hour battery life. This alone could catapult this robot to the top of the class since the "return to base and recharge" cycle can drastically extend cleaning times. Any avoidance of the need to recharge is a big plus. Cons: - Buggy software invalidates most of the features above. The unit routinely completely forgets the map that was made. This requires the user to have the unit re-build the map and then to manually recreate all the virtual walls. Every time. And it happens regularly. - The mobile app and/or device constantly lose connectivity. The effect of this can be mild (need to restart the app to regain control) or very inconvenient (the map that was being created is lost). - Most times I've run this robot, it loses connectivity when returning to recharge. So it recharges, then backs off the charger to continue cleaning, but cannot connect and so it just sits there and does nothing. For this reason, it has only once or twice actually completey cleaning our approx. 1800 sq. ft lower floor. The engineering on this robot is a superb first effort from Hoover and affords the potential for this to market leading product, but until the software bugs are corrected it remains a piece of frustratingly unrealized potential.

The Hoover Rogue vacuum is a very powerful little machine. It can negotiate difficult conditions with very little assistance from humans. I tested it both in my shop - concrete floors with rubber mats placed where I stand or walk a lot. The Rogue was able to handle the transitions between floor materials with no problems. I then used it in the living room. Low Berber carpet with runners atop the carpet. Again no problems. On to the rest of the first floor. Mixture of hard wood floors, with carpet runners and higher rubber mats in the kitchen. Again, no issues traversing the different floors. And in all cases, it did a great job cleaning the floors, as I always got a fair amount of material in the dust bin. The vacuum also always returned to its charging base when its job is done. Dumping the bin is a snap. It is accessible from the top of the vacuum, making it much easier to access than from the side like some others. There is minimal other places to clean occasionally. Overall, it appears to be very simple to clean and maintain. Up until now, I hadn’t connected the robot to my WiFi or downloaded the app. Until you connect to the vacuum with your phone, it won’t turn into the smart machine it can become. It just randomly wanders around until it decides it is done, and returns to the provided charging base. Installed the app, created an account, and then is when it got messy. I could connect to my WiFi, but the next step is for the Rogue to connect the Hoover’s servers. After several tries, and calling support, we finally solved it by doing a factory rest on the vacuum. The install went seamless after that. So now you have a smart vacuum. You send it on a reconnaissance of your home, where it ma-s out the walls and other barriers. You can watch the map as it is discovered and built by the robot. When it has discovered an area it can clean efficiently, it will switch to clean mode and travel back and forth in parallel lines covering a rectangular area. Again, you can watch the progress on the map view on your phone. You are also able to set up a schedule to have the device follow. You can also create virtual walls on the map to keep the vacuum from entering an area. Overall, I am impressed with the logic and smarts this thing exhibits. It appears to clean an area much more efficiently than just random motion. It is a little on the noisy side, but I just leave the room when it is operating.

I have long been a user of "other" robot vacuum models and this was my first experience with Hoover. I am impressed with the exception of a couple unexplained flaws that have not reappeared. Out of the box set up was easy and the self explanatory read me first card was good because as with everything I wanted to plug it in a go. The initial mapping feature paired with the app is what sets this apart from the others I have tried. The map actually shows on your device and you can make modifications or "smart walls" to keep Rogue out of certain areas. Setting up the map and layout is pretty effortless, then you create rooms and schedule and you are all set. If you like you can also connect to Alexa or Google home. Sometimes watching a robot vacuum get stuck is so painful but I have not had this experience with the Rogue. I also like the side brushes, I find these to be pretty effective in getting to the dust bunnies hiding in the corners. I was a bit concerned at first with the size of the brush and agitator, they seemed small so I was concerned it would take longer and more cycles to clean. I was pleasantly surprised it did not which I would attribute to the mapping feature and Rogue's ability to navigate along with the use of smart walls. Cleaning the unit and emptying the dust bin is easily achieved and self explanatory. There are three cleaning modes, stealth, normal and Beast. I like beast mode, it gets the job done but I have found setting a schedule and using normal mode is more efficient. The one complaint I have with most of these are the base, it has to be positioned just right or you risk it knocking it off kilter and then it may not charge. It always is not convenient to set it up against a flat surface particularly if you have 3/4" base shoe. Not a big deal as I have found work arounds using rug pads, 3m products etc.. to hold the base more secure. As for the initial issues I had problems getting the unit connected to the app. Not sure if it was an app issue or my hardware but after deleting it, turning off and on my bluetooth and trying again it all worked. All in all I would probably stick with this unit/model over the other brands I have experience with due to the mapping and app.

    Very Good Robot Vacuum

This is a review of the Hoover Rogue Robot Vacuum. I was very excited to get this product; I have a friend who has a Roomba and he noticed that this vacuum had an additional rotating brush at its front. It was pretty easy to get started and the Hoover app made it simple to control and set up. I did notice that the battery didn’t last very long on a single charge, but I had scheduled it to clean once a day. With that much work it wasn’t a surprise of the shorter battery life and the fact that the dust bin got full by the third clean. I’ve since changed it to clean twice a week and it the battery charge lasts longer. Since I work during the day my wife, who was home to watch it clean, noticed that it didn’t clean the entire area. My friend said that it was most likely due to blocked areas and/or it sensed that the area didn’t need cleaning. Both reasons made sense to me. As far as the actual ability to clean, it does pick up a lot of dust and little bits of things. We have cats and it did pick up extra cat food and liter pretty well. There were a few little things that it missed, but even with a broom some things are hard to get. The charging station/its home is very compact so we were able to put it in a corner of our living room, so it’s not an eye sore. All in all this is a very good product with a decent (not excellent) battery and pretty good cleaning capabilities.

Thank you for your review! Rogue has a 120 minute run time and will fully charge in 3 hours. If Rogue isn't able to finish cleaning on it's full charge, it will return to base to recharge and then go back out to finish the job. However, if you still feel Rogue has a short battery life, you can go into settings in the Hoover Home app to change it's performance mode to "Stealth Mode" which will lower performance and noise level but will give you some additional battery life. The Rogue has been running at my house a few weeks now and I must say that I am impressed. I don’t enjoy vacuuming, so that is one chore that is easy for me to skip which doesn’t work well having a dog. I was excited when the Rogue arrived, and I started envisioning always clean floors. The setup was easy with my iPhone and I had the Rogue running in “Recon mode” creating a map of my rooms and then I put the Rogue to work. While the Rogue was on its inaugural mission, I created a schedule run every morning. I found it cool watching how the Rogue systematically work it was around obstacles. The Rogue didn’t keep just banging into an obstacle until it could go around it, the Rouge would detect the obstacle then turn, scan, and work it way around it. Pretty smart. My biggest surprise was how well the Rogue cleans underneath furniture that it can get under, such as cabinets, tables, and beds. This thing is cleaning in areas that I would never regularly vacuum. I expect that this regular full cleaning will reduce the amount of dust in my house.

Best technology in a robot vacuum to-date

As the summary states, this robotic vacuum cleaner absolutely has the best technology implementation to-date. Take the robot out of the box, and charge it up. While you are charging it, download the "Hoover Home App" and get your account setup. Once the robot is completely charged, connect it via your Hoover Home app. That's the hard part (and it isn't hard). Next thing is to let the robot map your home via its "recon" mission. This allows the robot to traverse your home and to learn where the hard boundaries are. Due to unusual wall angles in a room of our home that the robot began from, our robot's recon mission did not correctly complete. It seems to have assumed that this one room of our home was the entirety of our home. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be an obvious way to delete that recon mission data and put the robot back in to recon mode once more for a complete mapping. I hope to catch the Hoover support folks tomorrow to see how that can be done. The application really should allow you to do this, as I'm certain I'm not the only person this will happened to. Once the recon mission is done, you can construct "virtual walls" in your mapped home where you don't want the robot to clean. THIS is one of the key features that I've been waiting on, and it works great! Once the robot begins cleaning, it does a really nice job optimizing the cleaning in lines parallel to your home's walls. That may not seem like a big deal, but it minimizes the amount of turns required during cleaning, which reduces cleaning time. You can use the Hoover Home app to setup cleaning schedules (i.e. while you're at work, etc). We have two mini long-haired Dachshunds in the home, and one sheds a lot. Did I say a lot? The robot does a really good job pickup up said hair. Given we have dogs in the home, one of my fears was that the robot would become a play toy for them, but fortunately they grew accustomed to it after a couple of days. I highly recommend the Hoover Rogue 970. It is by far a more intelligent solution than the other options on the market!

    Makes Vacuuming Fun Again!

We have had a Rogue 970 for about three weeks now. It works so well! Setup is quick and easy. Just download the app and pair it to your robot. The first time it goes out the robot “scouts” the area finding all the rooms and furniture. Tell it to clean and off it goes! It refines its map as it goes (you can watch it create the map on the app). You can even schedule the Rogue to run when you aren’t home! Watching the robot work its way around then room cleaning and leaving perfectly straight lines in the carpet is so much fun. At my house it cleans the perimeter of the room then comes in and does overlapping passes making sure it cleans everything before it heads back to its base to recharge. We love this thing! With a small child and two pets it keeps the entire first floor of our house clean and has drastically reduced the amount of dusting we need to do. The Rogue has made vacuuming fun again!
