I bought this because I got a new puppy and I have a 13 year old and it has done wonders for my carpet. The smelll is gone and the spots are gone.

I would not purchase another Hoover SteamVac Model F5914-900 because: 1) not a value for the price; 2) cheap construction; 3) clumsy to use. In spite of the fact that it did a decent job in cleaning our carpets and had adequate suction to remove soil and most of the so-called "steam" that was dispensed. For the money we paid, I expected it to last more than 2 1/2 years, during which time I used it about once a month. I cleaned the unit thoroughly after each use and kept it in clean and dry storage area. And yes, I did review all the troubleshooting details and ruled out any "Possible Cause(s)" and none of the "Possible Solution(s)" worked either. The only alternative - call an "authorized" Hoover Warranty Service Dealer - no thanks! The replacement will be a Bissel!

This actually did a pretty good job of rug shampooing. The hotter the water the better the cleaning so before putting the hot water(and detergent) in the machine put the hot water in a microwavable container and nuke it to get it hotter. Don't go crazy on this, about 180* should do it. The problem that I experienced was the motor overheating and burning itself out. I did not misuse this so a higher quality motor would definitely take care of the problem. That or this motor was somewhat defective to begin with.

Really like that it cleans my carpet in the house, in the car and furniture. Very good cleaning system and actually helped me train my new little puppy by applying shampoo with odor the pet does not like.

The Hoover gave poor performance cleaning my old berber carpet. It cleans the upper surface but doesn't get the dirt out on the lower surfaces of the carpet. Even after many runs, there remains significant and visible dirt on the lower (canyon) surfaces of the carpet. Where before the dirty carpet had an even dirt grey color, now the top surfaces is cleaner but much of the dirt remains in the lower zig zag channels of the berber carpet. The view is not pleasant.....lots of dirt grey zig zag trails throughout the carpet. I discovered that the spin scrub brushes are free floating and do not exert any pressure on the carpet. Thats probably why it doesn't get out the ingrained dirt lower down from the carpet surface.

I really think it is the rug shampoo and not the shampooer itself. It does not do well at all on stains. I don't know if it is because the water and shampoo are in separate units or not. I really don't know why we can't use Oxyclean.

I just purchase this hoover after reading the reviews and I was not disappointed. Its a great machine, it left my carpet beautifully clean and dried in no time. Better than rug docter.

I'm pretty resourceful about researching products before I purchase them. So when I was looking for a carpet cleaner to replace my previous Hoover that had served me well for almost 10 years, I was looking for another Hoover. After reading thru a number of reviews for both Hoover and other brands, I chose this model as it received excellent reviews. During the first few uses, my opinion would have been the same as the reviews I had read. However, less than two months after purchasing this carpet cleaner - it was already beginning to fall apart. One of the spinning scrub brushes in the main cleaning portion of the cleaner has fallen out. When I tried to replace it, I found that it must have been working it's way loose as the housing where it sits is chewed up and the brush will not stay in the housing. This is going back to the store.

I read all of the reviews and was excited to get a decent working machine and for the first three uses it did just what I had hoped. Now it stopped sucking up the water air blows out from the end not in and the attachments do not work. At first I looked for a switch I thought I hit to reverse the suction but there is none and alas this Hoover turned out just like every other hoover I do not recommend this at all.

It's a wonderful Steam Cleaner for spot cleaning. But if you work it right you can clean a bigger part of a rug. I am happy with it.

Cleans and drys well. Works as well or better than expected. Godd value... would recommend to other carpet owners who need to clean often or on a budget.

It is kind of heavy but most use it downstairs, the water pick up tank a little small, always needs emptying. However after ten months the broushes will not spin, unless they are off the floor and there is no suction. If I can find the recept, it is back to the store or whatevfer, if not, there is a Hoover in my future!

used this once on the carpet - did a fabulous job. Then I used on the hard floors - - - would NOT recommend for this!! Doesnt work well on hard floors, leaves a ton of water. Went to use again on carpets (this was all within 1 month time) and it didnt work. The brushes weren't spinning, so it wasnt cleaning at all. Looked at the scrub brushes & noticed that all of the brushes are powered by one middle brush.....and that one brush had snapped off of the small piece that makes it rotate. So, all in all, I was very disappointed - thought it was great after the first carpet clean, but once I discovered how it was all dependent on the one brush to power the entire set of brushes & that broke.....I couldnt justify getting it repaired or replaced since it broke so fast. :(

After reading all those wonderful reviews on this product I couldn't wait to get out to Best Buy and purchase it. I put the whole thing together without any trouble and was getting ready to use it. I took hold of the bottom plastic tub and snapped it off, then went to snap it back on and one of the plastic tabs completely broke off! Now, I'm not a strong lady, I'm not a large person either, I just can't believe it broke that easily. Unfortunately I'm taking it back tomorrow and I won't be purchasing another one because I am worried about what else will break. I've used my friends Bissel ProHeat one, which Best Buy also sells so I think I'll buy one of those.

After reading all the glowing reviews on this Hoover Steamvac with clean surge, I bought one online at BestBuy.com and picked it up at the store. The first time I used it, it cleaned wonderfully and left my carpets very dry. Only TWO WEEKS LATER, I tried to clean other rooms. It WOULD NOT pick up any of the shampoo and the middle spin brush wheel kept falling off. Also, it is a very bad design and is hard to attach the two tanks properly. Please re-consider buying this particular model.

This product is not worth the money or time I have put into it. Multiple engine/turbine failures, brush rotation component failure and one major leak from dirty water hose that stained the carpet (only happened once but once was enough). When it did work it worked fine. Save yourself the aggravation and go to a vacuum store and buy a professional grade machine - there are many too choose from. Spend the money and save the aggravation and gas money.
