We have a three year old and a four year old. That means our carpet had seen just about everything. Instead of renting a machine and doing the carpets in 24 hours, we purchased this with a gift card. We could not be happier with the results of the cleaner. Our carpets looked beautiful after using the machine. The power of the machine and the scrubbing lifted just about everything from the carpet. If you are looking for a great steam cleaner, this is the way to go. This purchase definitely gets the thumbs up. I'm a believer and a Hoover approver : )

Exactly what I've been looking for

I've been in the market for a carpet cleaner for more than 6 months and have done my research during that time. I knew exactly what I wanted and chose this model based on features, price & user reviews. I read hundreds of reviews from multiple sites and this, by far, was always rated best-in-class overall. Also, for me, it was important to have stair & upholstery attachments, rotating brushes (some lower-end models have a stationary brush) and a separate dirty water tank. When Best Buy cut the price for Cyber Monday, it was a no-brainer to jump on the deal. The website stated it was on backorder, but my local store had them in stock so I ordered it & picked it up within an hour. As always, the in-store pickup was quick & easy and the staff very helpful & professional.
Yesterday, I took it out for the first time to do the main living area. I was up against some major challenges: low-grade builder-quality carpet, previous owners, dusty desert living & two dogs. Assembly was simple and took only five minutes. Prior to cleaning, I vacuumed twice to get the majority of dog hair and surface dirt up. Setup was easy... just make sure to follow the instructions and seat the dirty water tank properly (during one emptying cycle, I didn't replace it correctly & noticed the lack of suction immediately). I used a preclean spray & filled the tank halfway with hot tap water then topped it off with near-boiling water.
The machine was a breeze to use and the tanks easy to empty & refill. Yes, as other reviews state, the dirty water tank fills fairly quickly but it only takes 60 seconds to empty, rinse & replace it. After the first section, I was shocked at how much dirt had been pulled up out of the carpet! The dark brown, muddy water was real proof that the machine was doing its job. There was very little dog hair in it so my vacuum had done its job but left a lot of deep down grime which this baby sucked right up. After each back-and-forth wet stroke, I did two sets of dry passes which left the carpet damp but not wet. So, again, the cleaner lived up to the previous reviews & promises of its quick drying capabilities. I didn't use the attachments for this room so can't report on their performance yet.
Once finished, the final cleaning and storing of the machine was far easier than I had imagined. Honestly, I had been dreading it and was very pleased that it took less than five minutes.
My goal was to get just a little more life out of my nearly dead carpet. This machine definitely exceeded that goal. Unlike other reviewers, I'm not going to say my carpets look like they're brand new. Going in, I knew I had waited too long and the floors had seen heavy use. But, aside from a couple high-use areas (front door & area where the dogs lie), the carpets look & feel amazing! Those high-use areas are clean but still a little darker, so I plan to use the brush attachment and a strong spot cleaner on them and am expecting excellent results there as well.
Never again will I have dirty carpets! With the ease-of-use, fast drying & quick clean-up/storage, I expect to maintain the carpets with quarterly cleanings now. I got an unbeatable price on this unit but it's worth far more than the current $149 price tag simply because I don't feel the need to completely re-carpet my entire home anymore and the pros would've charged at least that much. Final note: although I never get extended warranties, Best Buy's $20, 4-year warranty seemed like a good investment so I purchased it knowing this machine would get a lot of use if it fit my needs.

I won’t add much to what has already been written about the Hoover SteamVac Model: F5914-900. I will say that reading the reviews of the many machines on the market helped me decide which brand and model to purchase. I had an old Bissell canister that used a water hose you connected to a faucet. The water was never hot when it reached the carpet. Otherwise it was a good machine. I was going to buy a new Bissell that heats its onboard water until I read the reviews and took a close look at the design. I decided on the F5914-900 based on the reviews and the price. I got an excellent BestBuy price over the President’s Day Sale period. I shopped online and the online sale price was better than the local store sale price. The local store matched the online price and there was no shipping charge. My out–the-door price with a 4 year BestBuy warranty and sales tax was less than the regular BestBuy price for the machine. I used the machine this past weekend to clean my mother-in-laws carpet and upholstered chairs that had some serious pet stains. I heated the hot tap water in a steam kettle prior to mixing. The measuring cup lid on the cleaning solution tank is a nice feature. I only used 3 oz. of cleaner per tank. I added the steaming water and the tank was almost too hot to handle. It did an excellent job and remained very hot the entire time I cleaned. I did pre-treat the worst spots and with the extra-hot water solution the extraction of dirt and soil was phenomenal. I read some reviews which complained the tanks were too small. I found the tank size to be optimal. My large steam kettle filled the solution tank and the recovery tank was light enough when filled and small enough to handle easily when pouring out its filthy contents. I didn’t have any leak problems or suction problems whatsoever. I went back over the cleaned carpet with just plain steaming hot water for a rinse cycle and used several passes with the vacuum to remove as much water as possible. The carpet was reasonably dry and totally dry in just a few hours. I used the upholstery tool with the spin brushes and it was wonderful for getting cat hair up and out of the furniture. I almost bought a similar model at another discount retailer but it didn’t have the spinbrush upholstery attachment. I’m glad I was patient to wait for BestBuy to run a sale which they do about every two weeks or so, because I really like the upholstery tool. The BestBuy sale price was less than their competitor’s everyday low price. The machine was easy to clean. My only complaint is that I would like to be able to disassemble the suction wand to remove carpet fuzz and clean it. I believe that would be easier than the recommended method in the owner’s manual. I highly recommend this model! I have attached a Before and After photo of the carpet I cleaned. Notice the rectangular spot in the upper right of the Before picture. That is the original color of the carpet which was covered by a bookcase.

Great Vacuum for the Price

This Steam-Vac, for the price, is the best around. I would have given it the full the full feature value, but it didn't come with the hard floor attachment (cheap to purchase separately though). It does a very good job on deep stains, and the combination sufficient volume of both the dirty and clean water tanks allows for plenty of cleaning time between fill-up, and comes with a mid-sized bottle of carpet cleaner inluded.
The two included attachments work great, only fall back on those is the process of changing from regular function to the attachments, but still, not that big of a downfall at all. Considering the price, there isn't a better steam-vacuum around, and I've owned a few at this point, most of witch at least $100 more. While all Wet-vac systems involve an inherent amount of cleaning, this one falls about in the middle as far as difficulty and time consumption.
The cleaning process is made somewhat easier by features allowing the crucial elements to be removed and disassembled easily, allowing most to be cleaned in the sink. It also includes a handy tool for reaching hard to reach dirt/buildup inside the suction nozzle, only downfall (maybe I missed it) is there is nowhere to store it on the vacuum). Cleaning and flushing the system on all models of steam vacuums is a must, leaving too much carpet solvent in the system can cause degradation of connections and seals, and failure to allow all moisture to evaporate will result in mold and bacterial, causing the equipment to not function properly, in addition to making your carpet smell worse, rather than cleaning it.
Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone, amazing product for the price. Just remember to maintain and clean it, no way around that. One additional feature that is great is the ability to control the amount of solution/steam hitting the carpet, not only does this extend the time between refills, but saves money on carpet cleaner, as well as cutting down on drying time, hit the button to add some extra in stained and high traffic areas, and use the normal trigger for everything else. One final note, some assembly required, and buy it, I would buy it again...

Much better than the Bissell 2X

We bought the Hoover to replace a Bissell 2X that broke. The Hoover does a better job on carpets removing some stains the other cleaners we have had and the pro carpet cleaning services that have tried never touched. We vacuumed first then used the Hoover. It handed the hair of two Golden Retrievers with no problems and no clogging. The accessory spinning brush head for stars and upholstery is far superior with the Hoover giving a pro level clean on the sofa. The brush did not bog down even under pressure. I found if you use the spinning brush than quick snap change it out for the regular tool head for vacuuming the solution and water out gave the best results. But best of all - the ease of use and cleaning the Hoover is as good as it gets with its easy to load and empty solution and dirty water bins along with the snap out carpet brushes. We are following the suggestion we found on line to run a water and vinegar mix through the unit after use and before storing. We did that with the Bissel as well and it still clogged at the heater. That does not seem to be a problem with the Hoover.

Great Steam Cleaner, Excellent Value for Price!!!

This steam vac is super easy to use and assemble. I did some research and this particular model has great reviews on many sites. The cleaning power was *amazing* (see before and after photos!) I was pleasantly surprised to find it even came with cleaning solution!
Dumping dirty water is super easy, unlike other models that have separate dirty/clean water tanks. I like that the tanks are completely separate, its not a "bladder" design if you will - so it's not messy at all.
Cleans phenomenally!!!

LOVE MY NEW STEAM CLEANER

I must admit that I was so excited to receive my new steam cleaner that I rushed home to put it together and started using it immediately. I just glanced over the instructions and soon found out the importance of reading them carefully. I was not using the cleaner correctly and holding the clean surge button down to long. This caused one of the brushes to come loose. I took the machine back to Best Buy and they replaced it for me. So I sat down and read the directions like everyone should. I started with the playroom since it has the worst stains. I'm talking major spills from my toddler and pet stains from our dog. This machine worked like MAGIC! I did go over the stubborn areas a few times but they are no longer an eye sore. I also used the fabric softener trick as instructed on another review and my carpets smell fresh and look brand new. This product is a must have for owners with small children and pets.

You HAVE TO MOVE SLOW!!!!!!!!!!! This thing is great it cleaned, both my beach house and my house and the carpet looks good as new everywhere except for the stairs. The stair cleaner attachment is horrible. Also I noticed if you use regular hoover solution it doesn't do half as good a job as the platinum solution that costs twice as much. I also boiled the water before I put it in the machine as per other reviews and it seems to really break the dirt down. I also recommend you buy a cheap funnel to pour the solution in and especially if you boil your water like I did. I also used it on laminate floor with the laminate floor cleaner and at first I thought it scratched the surface but I mop and glowed it after and my kitchen also looks brand new. I did my entire house which is 1300 sq ft. on two bottles of the platinum solution which is $40 bucks, the kitchen a quarter of hard floor solution $10, and most of my beach house with one bottle of the platinum $20. If you factor all that in it was cheaper for me to do two houses myself then one house professionally.
A:AnswerThe machine uses suction to remove the dirty water when you use it for its intended purpose, so I suppose yes, it does vacuum.
However this is not a vacuum cleaner, so it you just need to vacuum the carpet, use a regular vacuum cleaner.
Shampooers like this, have to always be used WITH water. Their filters are made to filter water .
