Exactly what I thought it would be

Bought this the day we closed on our first home--a foreclosure that needed cleaning pretty bad. I at least wanted to get the downstairs cleaned before moving in the next day. Set up was quick & easy, and the instructions are brief and easy-to-follow--and BONUS--it comes with a bottle of cleaning solution. It's a heavy machine, as it should be, and the back and forth motion does take some time. But the results were professional quality--I'm so glad I bought this for current and future use instead of spending the same amount for a company to come out one time. I got two rooms finished in 1 1/2 hrs--one was 110 sq ft & the other was 275 sq ft. The soapy water tank runs out one moment & the dirty water receptacle fills up a few minutes later, so there's lots of back and forth to the sink. I have read in other reviews that this machine is superior in that it has removable tanks--I say thank goodness. The machine did stop sucking at one point leading me to discover that the dirty water receptacle MUST be clamped in there just right. I love the way you can see the dirty water being sucked up out of the carpet on the back stroke though. Unfortunately, all that dirty goop is still in the front see-thru part, and it looks gross, but they DO give you instructions on how to clean that out. I'm ready to tackle our upstairs now...and have it smell so clean like the downstairs does. I highly recommend this machine.

This carpet cleaner is great. I was not expecting it to work so well, but it cleaned as well as the rentals (better than rental when you compare it to a worn-out rental). The detailed directions for assembly didn't show all of the details, but after I figured it out, I noticed the quick start directions gave better instructions for the hose assembly (missing from the detailed instructions). Some of the reviews I read complained about it being heavy, but I think that is good. The weight helps keep it in good contact with the floor, and makes it feel more durable. The vacuum has plenty of power to extract the water and the carpet dries quickly. The spinning brushes work well, but you can't expect them to remove dark spots - even pros pre-treat stains, and if you do too, this machine will do the rest (I squirt the spot, rub it around with my shoe until it spreads out, then run the machine over it several times). The only problem is that the handle doesn't lock in place, so you can't tilt it forward to get the the brushes deeper in the carpet fibers for tough areas. The on-board tools work great, especially the spinning brush on the attachment. Hooking up the hose isn't the easiest to do and takes a little time, but isn't any more difficult than the rentals. It can clean hard floors, but I haven't tried this yet because the required attachment isn't included. With the horrible inventory of stores these days, of course I can't find it at a local store, and when I checked the Hoover web store, it was out of stock! This is very anoying! I would expect a store not to have an accessory, but the manufacturer should at least have it! I've been checking for weeks and it is still out of stock!!! I don't understand why they couldn't have included this seven dollar part with the original package!

Well-Designed, easy and enjoyable to use

I've had my house for about 6 years. The previous owners, (I call them Billy-Bob and Bubba) were absolute slobs. I doubt the carpets have ever been cleaned since it was installed. My carpets were so full of every kind of stain imaginable. Here a stain, there a stain. I will obviously need to replace the carpet, that's how bad it is, but I thought until I can afford to do that, why not get a steam cleaner and at least attempt to clean them anyway. Even if the carpets still looked horrible, I would at least have the necessary tools to maintain the new carpet when I finally install it. The setup of this steamvac was very easy. The instructions are very clear, and it didn't take me more than about 15 minutes to assemble it and have it up and running. The machine feels heavy-duty, but it's not too heavy. It's easy to move around. The accessory hose was a bit cumbersome. I couldn't figure out how to get it to store successfully on the back of the machine, so I just tossed the hose in a closet, will use the hose attachment some other day. There are two tanks on this machine; one for the detergent and water, and a separate tank for recovery. The tanks are fairly small, but I wouldn't say they are necessarily too small. They're just about right, in my opinion. It DOES require freqent trips to the sink to refill or empty, and the machine can go thru a LOT of detergent, so it's best to pick up some extra bottles if you plan to really put this machine to use. One bottle will probably clean 2 rooms, depending on how dirty the carpets are. Filling and emptying the tanks is a breeze. The cap on the detergent tank doubles as a mearsuing cup. It would have been nice if this cup had a pour spout to make pouring the detergent into the tank a little bit easier, but the fact that it is a mearsuing cup is still a great idea. The trick behind using this machine is to go over the carpet S-L-O-W-L-Y. I probably went too fast when I first started using it. I later found that if I go forward, pulling the trigger and moving slowly, and then pull the machine slowly back, while pulling the trigger, I got better results. I would then go forward and back again without the trigger, to vacuum up the remaining solution. This worked pretty well, and the carpets dried in less than an hour. Did it clean all the stains? No. But this really didn't surprise me much, as some of those stains were dried, latex paint, motor oil (Did I mention Billy Bob had a monster 4x4, and probably had oily truck parts all over the front room at one point?), food, and pet stains. It DID get a LOT of the stains up, though. I was impressed. Next time I may try some pre-treatment, along with some fabric softener. It is true what professional carpet cleaners have said; if your carpets are extremely dirty, it is not uncommon for them to appear dirtier at first, when you first have them steam cleaned. This is because you are extracting dirt that has been embedded deep down into your carpets, and pulling it to the surface. You can keep a clean carpet clean, but for a carpet that is absolutely filthy, sometimes it requires several cleaning sessions to really get all the dirt out of it. The recovery water in my machine was FILTHY! I was impressed! My carpets did look MUCH better on the first try. And the house smells wonderfull, too.

I hate carpet. I hate it, I wish I could get rid of it, I just don't want it in my house. That being said, that's just not in the wallet right now. I started looking for ways to clean the carpet and save my sanity. I googled and did research and read all the great reviews for this carpet cleaner here and on other sites. I decided to make the leap and buy it! So happy I did! First of all, it's an ok size and weight for a small adult like myself to maneuver around. Every time I've used it I've never used up the solution. I try not to have to move the furniture around too much! I can do most of my exposed living room carpet and use only about 1/2 the solution. Emptying the dirty water is gross, but not difficult. The attachment is also nice and helpful to target certain heavier stains, or also to get around or close to edges and such. I searched on youtube and found a nice video showing how to attach it. What I was intrigued about most in the reviews I read was how quickly everyone said the floor dried after cleaning. This is true! I love seeing the dirty water get sucked up into the machine! So satisfying! The floor is a little damp, but is dry in maybe an hour or so. It's so nice to not have to gate off areas from my dogs! That's just a pain. I am so happy that I bought this carpet cleaner and you will be too. It's easy to use, does a great job and will make you happy!

I have rented rug cleaning machines in the past and decided to purchase one after our daughter spilled a blue drink on the carpet. After reading several reviews and consumer reports, we decided ro purchase this machine to clean our carpets. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, allowing me to assemble the machine in 15 minutes. We have light grey carpets in our basement which tend to show the dirt, especially in the high traffic areas and near the furnature. My initial intention was to do some spot cleaning on the hight traffic areas and the "blue spill.". However, after cleaning the initial trouble areas, I decided to clean the rest of our house. Overall, the machine does a very good job of cleaning and leaves the carpets dryer than other machines I've used in the past. The only drawback I would mention is the water tanks need to be changed more frequently than a commercial machine. So if you plan to clean a lot of carpet, plan to make 2-3 empty/refill trips per room.

    Great carpet cleaner

I have waited until I have had my cleaner for almost a year before I submitted a review. I felt that would give me ample time to determine how well this cleaner would hold up. I have 2 large indoor dogs with one being old and has occassional urine accidents, so I wanted a steam cleaner that would clean AND remove the cleaning solution from my carpets. This cleaner has fulfilled everything I was looking for. It cleans well, is easy to empty the tank and clean and best of all it sucks up the cleaning solution. My previous cleaner did not remove the excess water from the carpet and it took a long time for carpets to dry. I have been more than pleased with this cleaner and if this one ever quits working I will definitely purchase another Hoover product. P.S. I would say that this cleaner has definitely been used a lot and still cleans as well now as it did when I first purchased it. I have paid more for a cleaner that did MUCH less than this one. This has been a great bargain! I would highly recommend this cleaner to anyone that is interested in purchasing a home steam cleaner.

Just bought this yesterday and used it immediately. I have 2 dogs (one being a puppy), so my carpets are terribly dirty. I had the puppy (potty accidents) smell on the hallway stair case, used the Hoover and its almost completely gone. I just went through the stairs to give it a quick run through to "test" the machine out and I was not disappointed. The used water from the stairs looked like muddy water, thats how dirty they were. I previouly owned not one, but two bissel pro heat steam vacs, and both have broken. The Hoover does a much better job, its lighter, and has way better attachments. The attachemtns hose is kind of pain to take on and off, but the spin brushes make it worth the hassel on the Hoover. Overall, Great Buy.

    a good vaccum cleaner indeed

I selected the SteamVac due to its highest positive online review. Generally speaking, it is a nice cleaner, though It should not be called steam vac, as you have to add hot water by yourself, and the unit wont boil the water to steam for you. Pros: easy to use, moisture trace can be seen from the top surface of the water tank while you clean, you can easily judge where to apply more dry strokes (suction only) and how wet your carpet remains. Cons: 1. when I first assembled it, I suspected I got a refurbished one. There was a scratch on the front surface covered by a piece of big black tape. The workmanship of some parts look rough. Anyway it is used as a cleaner, so I kept it. 2. My first application is to deoder. I did not find such a brand from Hoover. So I bough other brands of solution, When hot water is added, too much foam was generated in the dirty water tank that caused the floater to choke the airflow and automatically terminate the wet cycle. The floater is designed to do so only when the tank is almost full. You have to dump the dirty water more frequently to avoid the false "tank full" protection. 3. The hose has a notch interface to connect to vaccum source. When not used, it is supposed to hook on the back of the unit. Unfortunately, it gets loose from the hook very easily. The hook is litterally a peg, not a hook. 4. Remember to put the cover back onto the clean water tank each time you refill the solution. It works without the cover, but when you dump the dirty water tank you have to lay the handle flat on floor, the clean water tank attached on it may spill and mess up your carpet without the cover on. 4. the unit is for carpet only, for hard floor, you need order extra parts online.

I bought this machine on 11/6/10 because it was on sale and I read great things about this machine here. I have a 1 bedroom apartment which has carpets which haven't been steam cleaned in over a year (although I use the vac about 3x a week) Got it home, it took all of 5 minutes to put it together (3 screws all in all) plugged it in and got to work. In my bedroom I had to empty the tank twice and there was about an inch of dirt caked at the bottom that my vac has left behind (needless to say I am getting a new one after this experience), The living and dining room were just as caked. The carpets have gone from looking HORRIBLE to like new in one cleaning, I am going to do another run through with this tomorrow just to get whatever I need or left behind with the first cleaning. If you are in the market for one of these, this little econimical machine does wonders, easy to put together, easy to refill, easy to clean after you're done. Don't waste your time shopping around, buy this if you need a steam cleaner! P.S. Only downfall is that I thought it came with the bare floor attachment, however it does not, but that really doesn't take away from the performance of the machine!

I wish I bought this steam cleaner a long time ago. I've rented steam cleaners many times, and they don't come close to what this steam cleaner can do. My husband tracked grease on our beige carpeting, and I didn't think anything would get the black footprints up. This steam cleaner did the trick. It was easy to use and the carpet looks great! With two dogs and a baby on the way, I think this was a great investment. The only thing this would not be good for would be cleaning an entire room at once. I have only done spot cleaning with it, and the tank runs out pretty quickly. I need it more for spot cleaning, so that is fine with me. This was a great deal for the price.

    Great Carpet Cleaner

I just purchased this Hoover steam cleaner after my previous Hoover finally took all the abuse it could take. I have several pets and I use my machine a lot. I pondered for a while and read many reviews on other cleaners thinking there may be something better than the one I purchased over 10 years ago. After careful review, I decided to purchase the newest model of the same cleaner. I am very happy I did. I just used it and realized why I really liked this machine all those years ago. It has great suction and the carpet dries quickly. I really like having the two different tanks (the clean water/solution tank and the dirty water tank). There have been some enhancements since my last machine in how you remove the dirty water tank and I like it better. It has all the attachments I think I will ever need. It would be nice to have the dirty water tank fill up at the same time as the clean water runs out for convenience sake but it is a small annoyance.

This steam cleaner is excellent for the price. Assembly took 5 minutes along with setting it up for the first pass. This unit is very powerful for its size. The water container is rather small, but it allows you to pass at least 100 cubic feet at a time. Whenever using this unit you have to remember to air tighten the catch container. If you have rugs, this unit is well worth the price, it is a better buy than having to rent the Rug Doctor. The rug doctor would usually cost us around 65 dollars; this is along with the upholstery connection, and tax. After use, I would recommend to lay this puppy on its side. This will allow the under carriage to dry for storage. The containers were easy to clean after use, the connection hoses are a little cumbersome for storing, but they can easily be placed in a box somewhere. As far as cleaning power is concerned, a single pass did a nice job cleaning a majority of the dirt off the carpet.

I wanted to clean my carpets and not hire an outside company to do them. I have since cleaned my stairs and every room in my house with the Hoover Spin Scrub. The only draw back is the water tank does fill quickly. I has to be emptied and the solution tank refilled to do an entire small room. For the price I love this steam cleaner. It has already paid for itself and I do not mind emptying or filling the tanks. I bought a bottle of the solution for pet stains and odors and the unit did come with a small bottle of solution for high traffic areas. I prefer the high traffic solution, to me it just smells cleaner when I'm done. It is amazing what this carpet cleaner picks up in the carpet. If you do research this model there are only a few negative reviews (can't make everyone happy!) and that is what persuaded me to purchase this model.

I originally had the Bissel SpotBot pet hand cleaner for my new puppy. While it worked pretty good, it was hard to lug around. After a while, the Bissel was picking up the stains, but I could still smell the pet odor in the carpet. This one was on sale,so I exchanged it out. I used it to steam the puppy odors out of all the carpet in my apartment and my couch. It was pretty easy to use and didn't take too long for the carpet and upholstery to dry back out. After about 3 weeks, though, the latch that holds the handle upright snapped. The steam cleaner continued to work as good as ever, but it was impossible to store in my closet as the handle kept falling over. Luckily, I had bought the Geek Squad Protection on it, so I took it back, and they exchanged it for me again. No problems with it yet. A week ago, my puppy found a pink highlighter and chewed it to bits on the carpet, and the Hoover took the stains out like a champ! Overall, I'm very satisfied with it.

I purchased this steam cleaner for my mothers birthday and it was one of the best presents i could have ever bought. It is a very easy to use steam cleaner and the scrub brushes clean very deeply. It also has multiple attachments for hard to reach areas. We have even used it to clean beds with the hand held power cleaner. The steam cleaner is also a very good purchase for the price. I have not had a single problem out of this cleaner like i have with so many other cleaners i have used. I would highly recommend this cleaner to anyone who is wanting a very good cleaner for a very good price.

I have a high traffic home always swarming with teenagers. For those of you that dont know, that means lots of dirty shoes, food dripped and too many soda spills to count. Always borrowed my neighbors Bissell in times of need but saw the reviews on this and couldnt resist. This is undoubtedly the BEST steam cleaner I have ever owned or used. Period. My rugs had been cleaned with other machines and the stains came back one the rugs dried. This time, my rugs are spotless! Seriously! I cant rave enough about about the ease of use (even the teens can clean up if needed, lol), great price but mostly performance of this one. Dont hesitate...grab one if you can. Had some really tough stains on beige carpeting. I had tried everything I could think of to try to clean them. Grease, oil, wine, even soot. I tried every carpet cleaning solution I could find, scubbed with a brush, etc. and nothing was getting the stains out. Before going out to buy new flooring, I researched machines in a last ditch effort to try to clean the existing carpets. From everything I read here and elsewhere, this was the machine to try even above the rental units. Well, I am here to tell you that this machine got every one of the stains out, did it fast and left the rugs dry in less than 20 minutes after cleaning was done. Using the included cleaning fluid did most of the stains but some of the more organic ones required a quick spray with a spot cleaner. I am simply amazed! So, if you want a machine that has the ability to remove even the toughest stains, is quite reasonably priced and is easy to use this Hoover is the one to buy!

I bought this instead of having a service come to clean the carpets. It works great. I found that the Resolve Carpet Shampoo works about the best. No problems after many uses and plan to clean all carpets in the house about every 6 months. The only drawback is small water containers and having to stop and change them quite often. However this is how they manage to keep the product compact so it is a fair tradeoff. I read many reviews of different products before my purchase and this was the best reviewed product and I was not let down.

This cleaner has great suction and does a good job cleaning. The carpet is damp when finished and dries in a few hours. It is also recommended to make multiple passes without using the solution to suck up excess moisture. It is really not a "steam" cleaner however. The water is as hot as the water you use to make the solution and the device does not heat it any further. I have found that using OxiClean in the machine does a better job than the solution that comes with it.

This steam vac sucks - literally

    Posted .

Purpose for purchasing a steam vac - chocolate lab with jealousy issues with his 15mo old 'sister'. I purchased this steam vac as a response to my dog 'christening' each new item we bought for our daughter. I continually clean up after him with hand scrubbing followed by the shop vac. It appeared to work well, but his misbehavior has gotten worse, thus the need for a proper cleaning system. Initally, I researched a number of websites and narrowed the selection down to this Hoover steam vac and one made by Bissell. To my amazement, this steam vac had 1200 reviews on Amazon, 90% of whic h were 5 star ratings. I found the lowest price at Walmart and Best Buy agreed to price match. I paid $139 and spent $15 for a 4 year warranty. I also used a $15 Rewards coupon. I would highly recommend the warranty for something like this. After all, it's job is to clean up some filthy stuff, so 4 years of piece of mind is a bargain for $15. I plan to use this a lot and get my money's worth. Pros - It just does the job of a professional. I spent $200 9 months ago for a professional to clean my carpets. After today, this steam vac has paid for itself (minus two hours of my time). Not only did it clean just as well as the pro, but the carpet has dried much faster. This steam vac has returned my carpets to their original state. I put my nose into the carpet and could not detect a foul smell, where 24hrs ago was tagged by my dog. Just amazing. Cons - Nothing really, other than the instructions for converting it for use with the hand tool...it could be better or feature better diagrams. The hand tool works great. Tip: To get the water super heated, I poured water in my coffee maker (minus the coffee, of course) and added that hot water to the clean water tank.
