We bought this expecting it would work like the Rug Doctor you can rent at your local supermarket. We were disapointed there does not seem to be a heating element, the water came out cold, or warm if we added warm water to the tank. However, it still does a great job. The SteamVac did great at cleaning our dining set upholstery, our carpet and our living room furniture. When you take out the tank it really is impressive how dirty it is, even after you thought you had done a good job vacuuming. In all, highly recommended.

This unit is outstanding, easy to use and clean and it does a great job on various types of carpets. The carpets also dry really fast, usually in 20-25 minutes. You can see a difference in the color in one pass.

I bought this steam cleaner last week. It's my purchase of its kind and I'm in love. It was so easy to put together. I tried it in entry way of my apartment which is the the highest traffic area. I pretreated the stains as indicated on the instructions. I used the hot water and powered away. My carpet was dry within the hour! I also did a rinse pass with a bit of fabric softner as recommended by another review. It was fabulous!

I had some very dirty carpets, because the last time I rented a machine, it did not suck up the dirty water. I purchased this after seeing the positive reviews. I am very happy with it, after one use. It cleaned the dirt leftover from the rental, and the stains of daily use. The only negative I have is that the clean water tank is not real easy to set. After refilling a few times, I learned how to do that easier, but I am sure a better way could be engineered. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. With 3 uses, it will pay for itself over the rentals, and after that, I will be saving money, and getting a better clean.

I recently purchased this Hoover steam cleaner and love it. I had an older model for years and this newer version is great! Easy to use, and lightweight. It has easier to do stairs due to long attachment cord. The suction is just as strong for the attachment as it is for the steam cleaner itself. I don't have to have my sons carry the steam cleaner up and down the steps for me. I love it.

Out of the box had a small hickup, the brushes wouldn't spin, but with a little work, they started working. Does a great job of cleaning the carpet, we vacuum at least twice a week and couldn't believe how much this pulled out of the carpet. The unit was easy to use and we will definately be cleaning with it more often. Even with just hot water it did a good job of cleaning.

I owned a Hoover similar to this for 10 years. It more than paid for itself for carpet cleaning. The new one has some great improvements - I especially like the surge option...worked like a charm. I use Oxyclean for initial cleansing and then switch to the provided cleaning solution (which worked well). I took another reviewer's suggestion and used fabric softner as a rinse and really like how soft the carpet feels. Only flaw that I see is the reserve tank design. The old design had a handle that locked the tank down so you could pull the tank out with one hand (useful when you have water still in the cleaner tank and don't want to lay the handle down). This new design calls for both hands which means I have to remove the water tank so I don't lay it on it's side as it does leak a bit. Also, you have to take care to poor the dirty water out of the tank on one particular side - if you choose the wrong side, dirty water will spill out everywhere. Despite that design flaw, I still like this cleaner. Hoover definitely improved the suction and attachment design and if you take care to clean things out (especially if you have a particularly messy job (pet hair, etc.) it will last a long time. Like I said, I had my old one for 10 years - it only stopped working well because I got lazy on cleaning it out. The new design is easier to clean, too.

I must preface this with the fact that I have a thick, dense pile carpet. I purchased the cleaner to spot treat my carpet. It is a new carpet (three months old) and is guaranteed against stains for 25 years. I was very impressed with the amount of water is was able to extract. The carpet was fairly dry immediately after the cleaning. The water did not heat up and it was nowhere near steam temperature - not really sure why they label it a steam cleaner - but I used the hottest water I could from the faucet. The carpet manufacturer recommended the use of water only - no soap. So that is what I did. It did not lift the stains out (cat urine). I don't think it really had the power to inject the water all the way down to the bottom of the carpet. Overall, I am disappointed with the cleaner. I think if it is used to extract liquids right after a spill, it might to a fairly good job. Other than that, it just isn't powerful enough or hot enough to do the job correctly. I didn't downgrade it any further because my carpet can be tough to clean because of the density and length of fibers. It wasn't easy for the professional cleaners to get the stains out either.

I reseached for a week trying to find the best cleaner for my $. I spotted this one and the reviews were great, so instead of paying a lot to have the carpets cleaned really good prefessionally only once, I opted to purchase this machine so I could clean the carpets whenever I needed to. I found one at my local Best Buy, but the box had been opened and it was marked down to $155. I inquired why it had been opened and if it was returned. They said it was returned, but it had never been used. After bargaining I was able to get the machine for $125 and they threw in 2 bottles of soap. I was skeptical, but they assured me I would get a full refund if I found anything wrong and took it back within 30 days. I got it home last night and I have already done the main hallways. Let's just say GROSS!! I have 2 kids and 2 pets, one of which is a puppy. I am so seriously impressed with the machine! I used the tip from a previous review about adding some fabric softner when rinsing, and WOW do my carpets look GREAT and smell even better! It's also great to see that if you cleaned the carpet welll enough, you shouldnt get back any dirty water when rinsing. I havent yet! You will not regret this purchase! 5 stars to Best Buy for giving me a GREAT deal!

This cleaned our old carpets very well. It works just as good if not better then the rug doctor rental. The carpets were only slightly moist and were completely dry after 6 hours. I don't know why you would want to spend more on a different machine (pointless options perhaps?). Only bad part is that you will have to refill/empty water tanks somewhat often.

I love the way this machine works! Handles easily, light weight, and really pulls the dirt out as well as drying the carpets as you clean with its blower. Leaves very little water in carpet so carpets dries quickly. Clean up is not bad. Only thing I dislike is having to remove the 2 screws to clean the top cover when cleaning machine after use.

I have been looking for a steam cleaner for a few months. I originally wanted a $300 Bissell, but was waiting for a good sale. I saw this cleaner in the Best Buy ad and went online to read the reviews - the positive reviews and the top ranking on Amazon along with the affordable price all convinced me to make this purchase. I have a dog and 2 cats and have a very light carpet that had old dog accident stains, some grease stains, and one green stain where one pet was sick. This steam cleaner took out all of these old stains with ease and some stains were 2 years old. I thought the stains were bad enough that I took the directions tip to use double the cleaner for tough stains and everything came out. I mixed the deep cleaner that came with the steamer and the pet cleaner. I couldn't believe how good these stains came out - my carpet looks brand new. I did have to empty the dirty water tank a few times and refill the water tank 3 times, but I had some bad stains to remove so it was understandable. I used the tip of 2 wet strokes and 2 dry strokes and my carpets were dry enough to walk on shortly after. I would recommend this purchase - it works wonderful for a great price.

I am so pleased with this cleaner! I just finished using it and had to write a review! I have three dogs (including 1 puppy!) and my carpets were in desperate need of a cleaning. I thought about calling a professional, but just didn't want to go through the hassle of it all including the price! I looked at all the reviews on the top cleaners and ended up buying this one...and am so glad I did! My husband thought I was crazy and that it wouldn't work, but he was surprised just as much as I was! I was learly at first. I didn't know if it would be hard to use. The assembly was easy (I did it myself), read the directions on how to use it, and then went to town! It was just as easy as vacuuming! It got out ALL of my puppy's stains and left my rooms smelling so fresh! I didn't have to go back and forth over and over to get the stain out at all (and some of the stains were not new). I am so pleased with this cleaner, I have a big grin on my face! This cleaner did a great job for a great price! I wish I would have bought one years ago instead of spending all kinds of money on professional cleaning companies!

I just bought this the other night to clean my carpets for my moms 50th birthday party. I have white carpet throughout my condo (1300sq ft) and with a cat, dog & kid they were getting pretty trashed. This steam cleaner got up all kinds of gunk...I was surprised at how well it worked! Of course I realized as I was cleaning up the last tank that I never put enough solution in b/c the directions said a capful...and I was thinking a cap of the solution bottle...I didnt realize they meant the cap for the tank. So Im sure it would have done even better on a few of the stubborn stains I still have...but going over them a 2nd time with enough solution will probably get them up. To clean the living room, dining room & hallway I probably had to empty & refill the tanks about 3 times...but my carpets were in pretty bad shape...and for the most part the carpet was dry by morning (i did it late in the evening). People that had seen my carpet prior to them being cleaned were very impressed last night when they were here for the party. I highly recommend this steamcleaner! (now I just need to get a Dyson vacuum!)

Billie, our oldest of 3 cats (about 18 years old) urinated on two small carpets. I duly scrubbed each carpet with a stiff brush and laundry detergent. After they dried I thoroughly flushed each one to remove residual soap and dirt. The stink was still there. This, I realize, is a futile way (some call it half-something) to clean a carpet. I find favorable reports about Hoover on the Web. Next I buy a Hoover - SteamVac with Clean Surge – Patriot. The filth that came out of those just cleaned carpets was incredible. I could well understand why Billie thought this was a toilet. The cleaning solution looked as though it picked up dirt on the street. The stink is gone too. The cleaning experience was the same when I Hoover cleaned the laundry carpet and the living room carpet. Two recommendations: 1) Purchase a Hoover - SteamVac with Clean Surge – Patriot and use it. 2)Never clean your carpet in front of a witness, especially your mother-in-law or a friend from church. The embarrassment would be overwhelming. Worse than a platoon of roaches in plain sight.

The 1st time I used it I did the whole room, then went to empty the dirty water and the compartment was bone dry. I knew that meant all that solution and water was still in my carpet. Kept trying and all of a sudden it started sucking it all up. Still not sure what finally made it click to work right. It did a decent job. I've only done one room so far.

This steam vac is very easy to use once you get it assembled. It cleans really good. My husband & I have both used it.

I bought this carpet cleaner after checking it out at Consumerreports.com and reading the customer reviews at BestBuy.com. This machine with the rotating brushes cleans better and the extraction power for sucking up the water is superior to any rental unit I've used. The carpet was dry enough to replace the furniture is 20 minutes. And I"ll save money over the cost of rentals over the lifetime of the unit. I couldn't be happier.

Very simple to use and very, very, effective. Cleans like no other machine. Suck up almost 100% of liquid, - dries in just 1/2 hour. Built strong with easy put together components. It's great for spot work or whole house.

This machine is lighter than the previous hoover steam vac that I had. I had to replace my old one because I didn't bring it with me when I moved. It does a great job especially if you use the power surge, the srub brushes really penetrate into the carpet fibers. Definetly a buy!!!
