Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the Split Pad Pro Handheld Controller for Nintendo Switch due to its comfortable design, suitable size for various hand sizes, and high-quality build. Users appreciate the enhanced grip, great feel, lightweight yet sturdy construction, and responsive buttons. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the lack of rumble and vibration features, the inability to use the controller wirelessly, and potential battery drain. While some are not concerned about drift, it is still worth noting.

This is the only controller set that my son uses with his Nintendo Switch. He’s tried others but this is THE one for him.

If you like playing the Switch handheld but don't think the joycons are comfortable, get these. Can guarantee you will not regret it. The most comfortable, ergonomic controllers I have held. And they have a couple of programmable functions as icing on the cake. THEY NEED TO MAKE THESE ON THE SWITCH 2 ASAP, I AM WAITING.

Much more comfortable than the JoyCons

My hands aren't particularly large, but the standard JoyCons are so uncomfortable, im surprised anyone except for children can use them to play a game for longer than a few minutes. I was unable to use the Switch in handheld mode because my hands would cramp trying to use rhe JoyCons. Once I saw this SplitPad was available and read others' reviews, I knew I had to have it. It certainly doesn't disappoint. It's almost as comfortable as the Switch Pro Controller, and the addition of the extra triggers at the back, which can be reassigned, is actually useful and I now find myself wishing the Pro Controller had the same feature. The only negatives are: 1) each of the extra rear trigger buttons can only he assigned to a button its resoective side. For example, you can't assign the left rear trigger as A,B, X, Y, R, Zr, or R3 (or whatever the button is called by Nintendo - the right stick button). 2) No rumble 3) They can't be used without being attached to the Switch (although Hori does sell an accessory that allows you to use them as a wired controller , though its around $25), and 4) No motion control - (though I'm not exactly a big fan of motion control anyway)

Hori Split Pad Pro - Enhancing Nintendo Switch

The Hori Split Pad Pro for Nintendo Switch in Black is a substantial improvement for handheld gaming. Its full-size controller experience, with larger analog sticks, a precise D-pad, and roomy shoulder buttons, guarantees comfort and accuracy during extended sessions. Assignable rear triggers and Turbo functionality enhance gameplay, making it ideal for various genres. The ergonomic design and translucent Black finish offer style and comfortable handling. However, the absence of HD Rumble is a noticeable drawback, especially for those who enjoy haptic feedback. Officially licensed by Nintendo, the Hori Split Pad Pro is essential for any Nintendo Switch gamer seeking an enhanced handheld gaming experience. It earns a respectable 4-star rating.

The lack of motion controls and the fact it doesn't fit in a standard case is kind of a bummer. It is still an upgrade on the quality of the joystick but 3 stars due to quality of life issues.

I purchased this controller because the controllers that came with switch console were too small for me to comfortably use while playing fighting games in hand-held mode. The larger grip makes the whole unit feel more like the pro controller, and I no longer feel like I need to support the weight of the console while I play, giving me unfettered access to right, left, and Z buttons. The addition of a programable third Z button on the grip was an amazing idea, and really adds to the overall use of the controllers. Furthermore, the included programable turbo is a nice addition as well. There are some drawbacks with this controller as well. First, the d-stick on the left controller feels like it is too far away from the d-pad, so you may have to readjust your grip if you need to switch between controls. Oddly enough, it also feels like it is too close to the edge of the controller, making it a little cumbersome to use until you adapt to it. Secondly, the controllers are not self-powered, so your battery may drain a little faster than normal. This isn’t really that big of deal as long as you manage your power wisely, and charge it regularly. However it is something to be aware of if you take your console on the road a lot. Third, the large size of the grip means that it won’t generally fit your typical travel case. However, there are some newer cases out there that will do the trick. All in all, I think this was a pretty good purchase and really fit my gaming needs.

They are bare bones - no nfc, rumble, ir camera, or motion controls. There’s no battery, so they can’t be used wirelessly. That said, the full size grip, joysticks, and buttons, they are incredibly comfortable to hold and use. Even with the missing features, I would recommend these to anyone.

I am an adult gamer and these are much easier to hold onto than the joycons. My fingers do not feel cramped after playing for a long time. I have had these for 6 weeks and have had no problems.

I’m going to start by saying that while I appreciate many of the design elements of the switch — I struggle with the joy-cons. They feel so minute in my hands, and overall I just find them uncomfortable and difficult to use. The joy-cons are what keep me from loving the switch. I pre-ordered this controller the second I saw it — and I have no remorse. It is exactly what I was expecting. As for their size and the fact they make playing the switch as a handheld even wider — this is a controller that presents itself to be like a full-size console controller — how else could it do that without making the switch wider? With that said — the feel of this thing is like an Xbox controller only split in two. So depending on what your expectations are this is so far the best solution for people like me — people who want the feel of a full-size console controller when playing the switch as a handheld. I use the Pro controller when the switch is docked, and this is my new portable set-up. Yes, you can still charge the switch in it’s dock with these attached. No, there’s no rumble. This controller doesn’t have a battery, so you don’t need to charge it. But it’s responsive and utterly natural feeling. I sat down to try it out & ended up playing 4 hours of Dragon’s Dogma.
