Pros:
Stunning visuals and graphics
Engaging story and plot
Good combat and solid controls
Negatives:
Some sloppy facial animations and voice acting
Navigating robot machines is frustrating sometimes
Bought game at full price, very well worth the full $60, this game definitely justifies the PS4.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a fantastic game that takes inspiration from other titles such as Far Cry, and polishes them in a way that makes the game fresh. It's rare for an open world game to have both an engaging story and an engaging world to explore, but I'd say Horizon Zero Dawn accomplishes this without being repetitive. Tallnecks are this game's version of Far Cry Primal's bonfires, but there aren't so many of them that you get tired of doing them. I also found myself doing a lot of side quests more than the story, because a lot of them had little stories themselves that were just as good as the main story in their own right.
Strategy toward hunting the various machines is the real fun part of this game though. Figuring out how to beat a machine you've never encountered before, what weapons to use,etc is where this game really shines. Each enemy is like it's own puzzle and it feels really satsifying to figure them out.
The negatives:
-The tutorial / NPC's will hold your hand a little too much sometimes. It's almost compareable to Navi in Zelda because the NPC's will nag at you if you look around for parts / healing herbs or anything instead of doing what they want.
- There's a location in the beginning "Inside All Mother" where you're supposed to hit a vent and crawl through it to find an item that is useful for a quest later. You can easily miss this because everything will indicate to you that you should follow an NPC, and not explore. Explore anyway, because if you don't you're locked out of this area until close to the end of the game.
- I kind of wish there were more machines to fight, because after you get far enough in the game you' sort of figure out how to exploit all of them, and I just would have liked a few more tough enemies to discover. Maybe if there's a sequel there could be really unique "epic"" machines to fight or something.
-The game uses Uncharted's climbing system, with selective walls you can climb which is okay, but there were times I wanted to climb something I wasn't given the option to, and was disappointed. I think if climbing were more like Zelda Breathe of the WIld (maybe not with the stamina meter though) and it let you explore and find vantage points with climbing it would have been perfect.

This is a very high quality game. The graphics are amazing, the enemy design is unique and interesting, and the ranged combat is really good. You can tell a lot of care went into making this game.
The story is interesting, but a little boring in some parts. The main character is usually alone, and the side characters are not very interesting. The interesting part of the overarching story is the mystery about what happened to earth and the story of the world, but the actual inter tribal plot seems less important.
The amazing part of this game is the exploration and combat. The world is very big and easy to get lost in. I find it almost impossible to go from point A to B without stopping to hunt some machines or investigate something. The side quests help you explore the world and discover new weapons and machines, but you can find it all on yourself. Combat is mainly using different ranged weapons and traps to target the weak points of machines in order to take them down. Stealth is important in this game, especially if you are low on supplies or under leveled. This game does a really good job of making you feel the danger in the world. At any time you could potentially be overwhelmed by machines if you are not careful.
I definitely recommend this game if you like open world exploration game, or want a game with unique enemies and fun combat.

Amazing graphics whether you have a standard PS4 or PS4 Pro. Running this on a Pro in 4K is breathtaking though. I'm also a high end PC gamer, and Horizon Zero Dawn is frankly one of the most beautiful games that I've ever had the pleasure to play. The 4K checkerboard technique used to deliver the visuals looks pretty stunning, so frankly, just enjoy the eyecandy and forget about the technical details.
The world itself comes alive. Always something to explore, craft, trade, new mechanical beasts to discover and solve how to take down (adrenaline fueled combat puzzles), and NPCs that are fairly well done on top of that. The combat is top notch to boot, and personally I found Aloy a compelling and engaging protagonist and her story arc is very well told. The additional lore is also fairly interesting, if you choose to explore the nooks and crannies.

This is absolutely the best game I've played in a very long time. It has a crazy storyline with plenty of plot twist and it's totally unpredictable. The game play is also ridiculously fun, it gives you the freedom choose between combat styles that are very diverse but all equally entertaining. I see myself easily putting in over 100 hours into this game.

Overall this is a fantastic game! The story is compelling and the graphics are great! The gameplay and mechanics will remind you of a few other games (i.e: Tomb Raider, Far Cry, etc.). I really enjoyed getting into the story and thoroughly enjoyed the game. Easy to see why it was one of the best rated games this year. Well worth giving it a try.

This game has it all! Amazing story telling, graphics, animation and most importantly the combat. While there is a learning curve when you first start you’ll get it down in no time. This game makes you think about how to proceed, pause and wait, is that the best strategy I should use. I highly recommend this game if you love RPGs

Top Game I've Ever Played

This is easily one of the best games I've ever played. The story and the game play are on point. Even though the game makes you kill a lot of robots, it never got boring for me due in part to the mechanics available for hunting, trapping and herding machines to their death. The story was very well thought out, I even played through the whole game twice just to hear the story again. You become connected to the characters by the end of the game. The most refreshing part is this is the first game I've bought in a very long time that felt complete from the beginning. No major fixes out of the box or major overhauls to my knowledge, I bought it within days after release. This game is a time commitment, I explored a lot and it took me about 80 first play through. The good news is there are plenty of save points so you can play for a few minutes at a time if you like. Some of the quests might take 30 minutes or so to complete but overall you shouldn't get stuck playing for hours to save. You can always take advantage of the PS4 suspend feature too and you don't really even need to worry about waiting for a save point. Very good game. Highly recommend.

This game is seriously amazing. From the storyline to the visuals to the gameplay, everything is just so well polished and awe-inspiring. It's so refreshing to have a post apocalyptic world that's so beautiful rather than desolate like games like Fallout. If you haven't checked this out, do it. You won't regret it.

Amazing game for PlayStation 4 (It is exclusive to PS4 and not on XBox 1 or PC). It has some of the best graphics I have seen on the PS4 and comes highly recommended, especially if you like RPGs. I am really enjoying the story and building up my character. It is open-world, but isn't as long as some games like Witcher 3 or Fallout 4, however there is still a ton of things to do. Main quests, side quests, fighting of bandits, errands and hunts. The game has a picture mode which is cool. I lets you take a picture of gameplay at any time and then modify that picture, then save it or post it online. There are a few bugs or glitches in the game. But it's definitely a fun game worth picking up.

This game look beautiful. A huge open world to play in that is amazing. The gameplay is challenging sometimes when you have a bunch of enemies at the same time but it makes the game fun to play and learn. It also has an amazing story that keeps you wanting to play to find out what happens.

Robot dinosaurs. That's all that really need be said about Horizon: Zero Dawn to warrant checking it out, but there is so much more to love about this game. It's got a strong female protagonist; a lush, vibrant open world to explore; complex, fast-paced, rewarding combat; deep and engaging main and side plots. The cinematography during character dialogue leaves something to be desired, but everything else shines. I'll be first in line for the sequel.

I love this game - I'm about ten hours into it and still having a great time. HZD has a great story, interesting characters, and an intriguing post-post-apocalyptic setting in which humanity has reverted to a kind of pre-medieval setting, with tribal groups vying for territory and facing an onslaught of mechanical beasts that roam the land. The mechanical and biological creatures that you kill can be broken down into components that allow to craft or trade, and there is a fun element of stealth and strategy to the hunting. It's open world with a story you can progress as you like. Some have complained that this is an "SJW" propaganda piece, largely because the protagonist is a woman and the society she is from is led by an order of matriarchs. I personally don't find the game "political" at all, and most of these design and writing choices fit the world perfectly, and have historical precedent in many societies. Kudos to Guerilla Games for their great work!

I've never really been much of a gamer honestly. I've picked up a few games here and there, but nothing has every really captured my attention enough for me to really get into to it. Horizon is on another level. From the jump, I was really happy about the aesthetic of the game. From enchanting landscapes, to characters dressed in beautiful tribal gear, to bodily movements that seem very natural and flowy, I was impressed right out of the gate. This game is a first person bow and arrow shooter. I thought that would be really difficult, and to an extent it is. But it's just difficult enough to make you want to get better, yet not to discourage from play altogether. I love the hunter/gatherer and trading aspects of the game too. Typically when those types of things are involved in a game it becomes really complex to find and craft the necessary items you need. Again, Horizon doesn't make it way too simple, but there's enough of a learning curve to keep you engaged, and plenty of cool outfits and weapons to try to get your hands on. Overall I've played about 43 hours so far. My only negative critique is that some times when fighting and trying to dodge enemies, you get stuck on pieces of landscape that can make it difficult to survive. Overall though, the story, graphics, extras, and general gameplay of Horizon are on point.

Huge open world game that allows you to tackle the missions as you see fit. The story takes place in an apocalyptic world where civilization is gone and only a few tribes of humans are left. The robotic dinosaurs that roam the landscape has become hostile and you need to find out why. With your trusty bow and spear you set off to learn of the past while learning of the doom that is slowly approaching. Upgrade your weapons, scavenge parts, and hunt for precious food/herbs. As you explore the world you can learn new things like how to override machines to ride or to battle for you. This is a great game and story.

Believe the hype: HZD is a strong contender for Game of the Year. Insanely detailed and lush environments, great controls, solid voice acting/animations and really fun gameplay. Somehow, Guerilla Games found out that hunting robot dinosaurs pretty much doesn't get old. I am not particularly a fan of open world games since they tend to lack cohesive central narrative and lots of really grindy sidequests but HZD tackled both of those problems easily.
First, the main story is actually good and interesting. It takes a lot of standard sci-fi tropes and gives them a good polish and enough unique spin to suck you in. I found myself caring about the central story and Aloy. Secondly, the sidequests are very much optional and the fetch quests have enough of interesting story that you can easily get sucked in. The collectibles quest are mixed up enough to let you go from one type to another without getting bored. And you you can easily tackle them in whatever order you want: a friend of mine wanted to see the whole map so he went straight for the Tallnecks asap (the infinitely improved Ubisoft towers lol) whereas I got caught up in all the Hunting Ground trials and getting Gold marks for fastest times, which gave me tons of xp, money and weapon unlocks. GG has smartly structured it in the way that nothing ever feels likes a chore and the way you want to tackle the game really feels natural and intuitive. That made me like this game so much more compared to all the other open world games out there.
Weapon variety is good enough to where you can play the game how you want. I went stealth and using slingshot bombs after picking apart robots piece by piece for their goods with bow. My friend went tying down with the Ropecaster and arrowing down mobs with the bow. Or you can go straight stealth with melee Silent Strikes or well placed arrow shots with the slower bow. There is no issue with ammo since crafting can be done on the fly, WITHOUT GOING TO A MENU THANKFULLY, and you will have no lack of resources due to the item economy and plethora of materials lying around.
The only complaint I could even leverage is that even on hard mode, it was a little easy and the super armor really truly breaks the game and makes it easy to complete. Not sure how very hard plays but I would 100% recommend starting on hard mode, even for beginners.
I sunk 66 hours into this game and loved every minute; very happy to have the Platinum for this and got a free theme from Sony even for it. The fighting and story are top notch, it has a lot of replayability because the world is just engrossing and fun to just run around in and take pictures and FIGHT DINOSAUR ROBOTS. Absolutely can't wait for the sequel/planned DLC and this is one of the best console exclusives around for sure.
If you have a PS4, this is a must own in my opinion.

This is one of, if not the best, open-world action game I have ever played. In my opinion, it should be top contender to win multiple game of the year awards. We finally have gotten a game developer, GG, that has perfected an open-world experience! Usually open-world games will have a good story, but then suffer in graphics and in gameplay (example: Mafia 3, even though i enjoyed Mafia 3) or great graphics and gameplay, but the story is not so good ( Example: Watch Dogs 2, enjoyed this one immensely) With Horizon, it is an example of almost a perfect game! Graphics: best looking console game I have ever seen, especially on PS4 Pro. Story: It is engaging, detailed and had me immersed from the opening cut scene. Gameplay: The best part of the game and honestly maybe has the best mechanics, thrills, and options I have experienced in a game. Finally, the open-world: The atmosphere of the surroundings is what makes all the other things that much more enjoyable! The map is huge, but not so large that it takes away from objectives or what you have to do to survive in the world! I have never experienced anything like Horizon, and it shows what current generation consoles are capable of, and every other developer better look out because everything produced from this point on is going to be compared to this work of art!
Who wouldnt want to spend 30-60 hours fighting mechanical dinosaur creatures with a bow and arrow! Enjoy!! 5 stars isn't enough!

I would give this game 4.5 but only 4 or 5 is a option so I when lower. One of the better games that has come out this year. I would love it more if Zelda BotW came out at a different time but nothing comes close to the Zelda experience. Open world reminds me of a far cry game with less side missions. The story is intriguing keeping you excited to learn what's really going on. Not to many glitches or frame rate losses. I like the game good controls, lots to do, and fun to explore the world. Things I don't like it's repetive, similar to far cry, not that many differ t types of enemy's. If you like open world games with a good story pick it up you will enjoy it. If your tired of Far cry games it might be another episode that gets boring after the first 10 hrs. Like I said if Zelda didn't come out at the same time this game would fill my RPG/ open world craving, but Zelda is far superior and playing both I find myself losing interest and craving Zelda. I will defiantly come back to horizon once I've completed Zelda 100%. Some of the characters are boring and side missions are just go get this this and this bring it here then get this bring it there. 9/10 best PS4 game so far in 2017. I'll review again once I finish the game.

This game is just fantastic. After 50 hours of in-game play-time, I have managed to platinum the game and get to about a 95% completion rate. I spent a lot of that time exploring the different areas as well as completing any side missions that were available. I believe I was around level 40 before I even started to do the main story missions.
The main story line is great and plays on different themes very well. The side missions also allow you to run into a bunch of different characters with their own personalities and beliefs which makes for an interesting time. That being said, the story, as a whole, felt somewhat short to me. Even though I did spend 50 hours in the game, I don't feel like I spent all that much time looking at the life of Aloy or the life of the ancients.
The game itself is beautiful. As of now, I cannot think of any other open-world game that looks anywhere near as good as this game. The only types of games that compete with Horizon in this aspect tend to be more linear games or games with smaller worlds. The beauty is only accentuated by the fauna that populate it. While there are obvious real-life counterparts to most of these machines they still manage to take a life of their own and while they might look like something you've seen before, you definitely do not approach them in the same manner.
On to the bad. First and foremost I think that while this game has a lot of beautiful aspects, it leaves a lot to be desired. I think that overall this game has a lot of things inside of it that could be improved on or be completely removed. The weapon and armor system makes no sense considering you can get fully upgraded armor withing 15-20 hours in the game. It gives the illusion of complexity but in reality it's pretty one-dimensional. It does not affect the game play too much, if at all, but it's still something to consider. The same goes for the skills you can learn throughout the game. Most of them are unnecessary, and I would even venture out to say that you could beat the game with maybe 4 or 5 skills just as easily as with all of them.
Lastly, it feels like there's not much to do after you finish the game. I'm not complaining since I managed to get 50 hours out of the game, but I think there are things that can be added eventually to really extend this game's life-span and replay ability, but for the time being I will patiently wait for any expansions that are hopefully on their way.
Overall, I think it's a must-buy for anyone with a PS4 and I think most people will enjoy it for different reasons.
