Great Value, but no USB charging

Can Microsoft still perform with under powered specs? What does that even mean? HP’s 14” laptop cuts some corners, but not many, to drive a low price. It does not support USB-C charging, which could be a deal breaker. Compared to my work laptop, the screen on this is lower resolution. This makes the text larger, icons larger, and all of it less sharp. The keyboard is a little squishy, but still has nice spacing. There’s no back light, so you’ll have a little challenge if it’s darker in your work space. It feels like it’s about the same weight, but it’s thicker. The case is plastic instead of aluminum or some space age material. Battery life has been great so far, with several hours of web application usage. It includes WiFi 6 support for decently fast speeds. While in the same room as my router, it maxed out at my ISP speed. Upstairs, it showed some drop off compared to my phones which have WiFi 7. What does this mean when using the machine for Office apps and school projects? First, be aware that this has Windows S mode enabled by default. Windows S ensures high performance by limiting what you can install to those apps in the Microsoft store. Even common apps like Zoom and Audacity are locked out. This mode can easily be disabled, but it’s a one way street. After disabling, I didn’t notice much of a performance difference as long as I stayed with a single app. With more applications open, the machine is definitely slower than my work machine. Switching apps is less smooth and leaves a black screen in some cases for a few seconds. Everything catches up eventually, but it’s a reminder that cost cutting comes at a price. In the end, it’s a price which I think is worth paying to get a Windows machine around $200 new. It’s less than many used machines and still comes with a fast SSD and full support for current software. This machine is a way to get a Windows machine at a Chromebook price. It provides all the advantages of Windows, including a 1 year subscription to the MS Office suite, which is half the cost of the machine. After exiting S mode, Chrome can be installed, though I personally prefer Edge as it’s less bloated and doesn’t track your movements across the web to sell advertising. The versatility of Windows is still unbeaten. My biggest complaint and enough to make me not recommend this is lack fo USB-C charging. It has a USB-C port, along with HDMI output which will drive a high resolution screen. However, it will not accept a charge through the port. As it only requires a 65-Watt power support, this oversight is a bit inexplicable. Every laptop I’ve owned in the past 4 years has accepted a USB-C charger. This allowed for use in the car as well as sharing a charger when the family is on vacation. At the very least, it would be nice to have a USB output on the charger block, so I wouldn’t have to carry two chargers with me on vacation (phone & laptop). It unfortunately spoils what’s otherwise a very good value priced option.

    Great Performance for the Price

This was an insanely great buy when it was the "Deal of the Day". I needed a small, lightweight, knock-around laptop, since my main laptop is pretty much stationary as it is connected to a monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc. I wasn't expecting much, but the performance is surprisingly good. As someone else mentioned, even though it's not "upgradeable" according to HP, it does have a free-standing memory slot, and the memory can be upgraded to 16GB (DDR4 3200). However, you would need the right tools to disassemble the case, and prior experience disassembling mobile devices or laptops would be a plus. Once I upgraded the memory to 16GB, I notice very little performance differences using most functions like streaming, office apps, etc. between this and my other laptop (I5-1235u). I'm not a gamer, so I can't provide much insight on that performance aspect. Items to Note: 1. Took it out of "S" mode, and did not notice a performance hit. 2. Very difficult to find more detailed specs. Even HPs web site doesn't provide many details on memory slots, whether memory is soldered, etc. (it has one slot - i.e not dual-channel, upgradeable to 16GB) 3. Tools like crucial.com device scanner app were unable to find this laptop. 4. Even before I upgraded the memory to 16GB, the performance was still decent with 4GB 5. The display is fine, and battery life is pretty good.

If you're looking for a basic, cost effective Chromebook, then this HP Chromebook will hit that mark. It has and does everything anyone would need for basic computing. I have several laptops and Chromebooks and my personal preference is to use Chrome os on all these units. So I'm quite familiar with it. This particular laptop has all the basic functions and inputs that most people, and in particular, I think HP had students in mind for this unit. It has usb-a, HDMI, usb-c and a headphone jack. It even has an SD card reader, which I like but have noticed that most newer laptops has forgone this feature. The laptop itself is snappy and loads most things in a well time manner. It's not going to win any speed races against other computers, but for basic use, it's fine. The keyboard and mouse track are sufficient and didn't give me a feeling of some cheap computers I've ran across. The screen is just ok, and again perfect for basic use. I don't recommend using it in any bright areas because it does wash out. Speakers are good to use in normal environments. For your basic laptop, HP did a good job building a quality unit

The HP 14-dq6 LAPTOP very affordable, lightweight

Weighing less than 5 pounds, it is thin and easy to transport. No fans nor high processor power demands provided all day use. The on-board Solid-State Drive is ample for basic programs and documents. 4 gigs of RAM compliment the lean power demand as does the graphics display whose maximum resolution is 1366 x 768. The display is sharp and easy on the eyes. As with most displays, it can be set to might mode. The CPU is an INTEL N150/ According to Intel’s website data, the Intel Processor N150 is the slowest mobile processor of the Twin Lake family. Twin Lake is mostly identical to Alder Lake-N, an architecture that will turn 4 this summer, 2025. The N150 is meant for entry-level laptops, tablets and mini-PCs with no fans; it offers 4 Efficient (Gracemont) cores that run at up to 3.6 GHz, but no Performance cores. Compared to the N250, the N150 has a significantly slower iGPU and slightly lower CPU clock speeds. I like the SD slot on the left wall of the laptop. The right side sports the power connector, two (2) USB-A and one (1) USB-C ports, and a standard headphone/mic jack. Working with the mouse pad is flawless. I’m not pleased with the keyboard. There are no raised touch points on the all-flat keyboard keys. The keys themselves work well and provide good tactile feedback, are quiet, but I easily get lost as I am not a touch typist. Also, since my vision is not as good as it once was, the contract of the thin black lettering against the grey keytops is extremely hard to see. Definitely meant for someone with better typing skills than me. HP provides the basic windows 365 apps, word, excel, PowerPoint, and outlook as well as a one drive account if you activate it for one year. The laptop starts out in “S” mode so only certified Microsoft Store apps can be loaded. This can be changed by activating standard Windows HOME mode, not reversible. As for other software, X-Box abilities and Game Bar are included. A fair entry level PC.

This 14 inch HP Laptop is just the perfect size for me to move from room to room when I need to look at something with a screen larger than my cellphone. It has all the capabilities of a regular computer and it is light weight so I can move around with it with ease. It boosts up really fast with no lagging. I am very please with this laptop. I would recommend it to others that may be looking for a small computer when a cellphone or a tablet screen just want do. I did not have any issues downloading my software, setting up my email or connecting to my HP printer. Everything was quick and easy! This was a great buy.

This inexpensive laptop came with a modern N150 quad core processsor and all the productivity software necessary to work on the go. Ideal for students and those not seeking a high end gaming system. This can handle all your personal computing needs. Decent display and sufficient storage for personal computing. You will need to rely on cloud storage or external drive if you have lots of large files. All in all a great value proposition from HP & Best Buy, very pleased.

I bought this HP 14" Laptop (Intel N150, 4GB Memory, 128GB UFS) for my father, and it has been perfect for his needs. He mainly uses it to send emails and type documents, and it runs smoothly without any issues. The setup was easy, the screen is clear, and the keyboard is very comfortable for everyday typing. It’s lightweight, reliable, and user-friendly—great for anyone who wants a simple laptop that just works. For the price, this is an excellent value, and I’m very happy with the purchase. Highly recommend!

Amazing for school and office work. I also play a little Roblox on it but thats the most it’ll support gaming wise. Battery life is ok, but me personally im not on the computer all day. I’ll start one class at 100% and be at 60-50% at the end of that class. So if you’re on the computer more often than me then you’re 1000% gonna have to care the charger with you. The speed is great. And for the screen it’s good but it could be better. Overall for a person like me who uses my computer everyday but not for hours I give it a 5 stars

I purchased this as a web-searcher/social media device. Just something that I can browse the web and social media while relaxing in my recliner or wherever I happen to be. Nice compact size, set up was easy, pages load quickly, no issues. Great device for the price!! (deal of the day!) Also, I was pleasantly surprised with the ports, usually a laptop at this price point has limited ports, but this has 2 usb A, 1 usb C, 1 hdmi port and a media card reader along with a headphone/microphone jack.

Bought this laptop as an end-of-year prize for the students at my school. It's a great value as long as you're not expecting some sort of performance gaming computer. While not blazing fast, it handles most apps pretty well. A user would most likely want to use this laptop for doing web research while working on a school project, or for typing up The keyboard feels great and overall design of the laptop is comfortable and just big enough to keep your eyes from having to squint at small objects on the screen. Again, this laptop should be considered for low-demand projects and apps, but it's definitely worth the money!

Won't be disappointed. Very good for the price. Long life battry charge. Nice value of the background being clear not blurry at all. Highly recommend for pre teens.
