Slow
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read reviews of the product before I purchased the product, so I was pretty excited when I got my new laptop. It is very slow to be the new "top" processor. My web camweb camera doesn't work. Had to reset the entire system and it still does not work. Not happy one bit.

This computer plays Fallout 4 pretty smoothly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will get to the gaming performance at the end of my review. I wanted a gaming computer but did not want to spend the $1400 plus they normally cost. I wanted a 17 inch screen because it offers more screen space and it's easier on my eyes. I wanted a blu-ray player. This computer has all that except the blu-ray. My old HP pavilion Dv7 laptop is almost 5 years old. It worked fine for what I needed it to do, but playing games on it was NOT its strong suite. The lag was very severe. Plus that computer was having over heating issues and I do a lot of other work on my computer so I decided to look into getting a new one. My oh my it took me so long to TRY and find one the way I wanted. Reality, I would need to spend, on the low end, at least $1400. I didn't feel like dropping that kind on money on a laptop. Desktop, yes (if I build it myself) but not a laptop. I did not want a desktop because I need something that is portable. So I bought this one since it was close enough to what I wanted. No blu-ray as I've said but I can buy an external cd drive from amazon, no problems. The design is nice. I like the aluminum finish, cold to the touch. Gotta use two hands to open it though. For $1000 it would been nice if it was better balanced. Key pad is backlite, VERY NICE FEATURE!! That is definitely something I wanted/needed. My old Pavilion had no such feature despite that computer costing $800 back in 2011 when I bought it lol. Keys are nice to the touch. They feel really nice and premium and it's easy to type on it. The touch pad took some used to, but it is okay. Unlike my Pavilion, there is no touch button to turn the pad off it you don't need it. I use a bluetooth mouse. Touch screen is cool I guess. I have no use for it though. 1080P is nice. Very clear. It as a nice web cam but I don't care that much either. Some people, when reading the reviews, said the Bang & Olufsen doesn't sound as good. I disagree. My old Pavilion had a Beats speaker system in it and it sounded really good. Still does actually but this Bang & Olufsen sounds even better. Very crisp and loud. Not a lot of bass, if any, but its fine since I mostly use bluetooth headphones anyways. Starts up in 30 seconds. No lie. From hitting the power button to typing in my password, 30 seconds and this thing has a sata drive. VERY quick startup. When I first got it, it was slow but that is expected since it was new. This fast boot up was not expected. The i7 is faster than the i5 in my old computer, of course, but still slow buy some standards. On cpu benchmark dot com, they gave this processor a 4338 cpu mark. Since this my second laptop from HP (I've never had any other laptop or desktop), that is good to me. Windows 10 is cool too. Some don't like it. I still prefer win7 but we can only move forward I guess. The layout is similar to win7 (I never used win8) so the learning curve, at least for me, was a few days. GAMING TIME!!! Now, as I said before I wanted a gaming laptop. Most PC gamers use desktops, but i'm not most gamers. Matter of fact I don't play a lot of games, like at all, which is why I refuse to but a laptop over $1000. Plus as I said I do other work and needed something that I can easily move around or take with me when needed. The only game I play so far is Fallout 4 on steam. A very demanding game. I tried to play it on my old Pavilion, NO WAY! Should have known. This computers GPU is a Nvidia Geforce 940m. I can play Fallout 4 on ultra LOW settings and it runs around 30 fps. Good enough for me. Unacceptable to most REAL gamers but I just do this as a pass time and besides I do have a PS4 although Fallout runs TERRIBLE on the PS4 in certain areas. I haven't had that issue much on this computer. I probably wouldn't try playing games online with this computer though, that little 940m might off itself. But you can play some games with it if you are an occasional gamer and have no interest on consoles or selling half your family and body parts for a more expensive, yet powerful PC. Are there any negatives? Well yea, sure. Need two hands to open it since it isn't balanced. No blu-ray player, the CD drive is fine even though it looks and feels very flimsy and an after thought but it works, sometimes I have had to restart this computer because it seemed like it has a mind of its own, sometimes the internet would disconnect for no reason from wi-fi and then reconnect, it doesn't do that often but it does happen. If you want a cheap gaming computer and don't need portability, get a desktop. If not you may want to spend a little bit more and get something with a 960 or 965 gpu although a 980 would be better in a laptop since heat is the enemy of any computer, especially laptops. My bluetooth headphones sometimes pop in and out. Don't think it's the headphones but that problem seems to be correcting itself slowly now. The only "upgrade" I believe you can do is a hard drive swap. I'm not gonna replace this sata with an ssd. I don't need that. I'll save that for a desktop in the future. I can't really think of any other major negatives. Overall I am satisfied and happy with my purchase. Now, back to fallout 4.

Nice computer however, it is very unstable.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found the ID picture camera works sometimes at its own pleasure, the num-lock key doesn't work along with the number keys on the right side of the key board. Some features of this HP ENVY computer are at best unreliable. . .

Terrible computer-Do not buy any HP Laptop!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I paid over $1000.00 for this computer about 17 months ago. It has never been dropped or abused in anyway however the hinge on the screen has broken. Some little screw fell out and now the screen is separating. I can not close it and from what I am finding online this is a common problem with several HP laptop models that are older than this one. This is a huge design flaw that HP apparently does not care to fix. I am out of warranty and understand from others that it will cost me $200.00 to fix, I will be without my laptop for days and the problem will just happen again. What a waste of money.

Nice as any.........
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had bought previous model of this laptop last summer and was happy with most everything except drivers and that was easily taken care of. Came time to replace my desktop, decided to check this model out and pleased that I did. All the specs the old one plus a bit more. Backlit keyboard, loads of ram, HD+ display. And it was on sale at the right time, too. Brought it home, it fired right up and shortly was up and running without errors of any type. The only con I see, as with the other model, the hard drive and that's not a bad thing but a SSD would be a lot better. When I got ready to do the "clean install" of Windows 10, I just swapped out the hard drive for a 240 GB SSD then did the "clean install" with absolutely no problems. What drivers that didn't automatically download and install were at HP on line. Wireless works great as does the Bluetooth. Display is outstanding. Everything works as it should. One thing I should mention, I sa w on another review that the hard drive was a Western Digital, the one that was mine was a Seagate. That person may have been mistaken, or HP is using what's available to build these machines. This computer looks like a MacBook Pro on steroids! Easier to take apart and work on though. And for about half the money, get almost twice the machine as a MBP. Even if a person were looking at a MBP, they should stop and give this thing a good look. Windows 10 seems to run just fine on here. Easy to setup, dial in and use. I would and have recommended this machine to friends

HORRIBLE!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only owned Dell computers before this HP purchase and I would never buy an HP again. I purchased the computer with the Intel i7 processor which is suppose to be fast and handle numerous programs at the same time but I have yet to see that happen. I can barely get one program to open up fast. Multitasking is not one of its quality's which is promised. I wait longer than my i5 processor in my Dell. My space bar barely works upon opening and it is always downloading some kind of fix. It was a waste of a thousand plus dollars and I would never purchase another HP computer again!

Slow Internet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer has the slowest internet of any I've owned. It takes forever and when trying to connect repeatedly gives the error message "Not connected to the Internet". Not worth the price!!!

Laptop Problem
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first laptop I bought had to be returned within two days after set-up because it froze and even the GEEK SQUAD could not get it working. Had to return and get new one. Set-up took hours and had to start from scratch again. Could have offered some compensation for my troubles.

Returned twice within 3 hours...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Returned this unfortunate computer twice within 3 hours. Bought the computer, brought it home, started set up and didn't get very far. Ran into the graphics card stopping and restarting (every 10 seconds). Returned the computer and was told that sometimes happens with HPs. Received another of the same model...same issue. Returned the product and bought a MacBook Pro from the Apple Store. Told Best Buy to return all of these to HP and get their money back (and not to annoy their customers with it). Used to like HP...not a fan any longer...

Not what HP used to be

Awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just got this a few days ago and I love it! I do a lot of intense video editing (GoPro and 4K drone video) and this laptop is exactly what I was looking for and is FAST (even with a 5400rpm hard drive). I've owned a lot of laptops and this blows them all away. I love everything about it! The quality of the whole laptop is amazing and beautiful. I have no idea why the one guy gave a bad review for specs he knew about the laptop and bought it anyways and gave it a bad rating...weird. Trust me, this is well made, fast, sleek and gorgeous! If you can get into Best Buy and have a look at it.

Love It!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially purchased a Pavilion which was way too slow for the type of usage I required, so I replaced it with this beast! Yes it cost almost double of the Pavilion, but as the old cliché goes..."you get what you pay for" and with this baby, it's worth every penny! Awesome HD display, power processors, plenty of memory, game level graphics card, backlit keyboard #had to find out about that sweet perk from another reviewer, if you thought it didn't like I did, press F5# along with a host of other goodies I haven't had the pleasure of discovering since I've only had her for a few days now. The only knock thus far are the speakers, thought they would have more UMPH than they do, of course I could be missing something like a proper setting or something; if not, then the speakers are lacking, but not a deal breaker. It's well worth the investment, that's for sure. I will definitely recommend this beauty! But don't take my word for it, if you're reading this and live close to a Best Buy, go by and see for yourself. She's a bit heavy, but I don't think anyone's planning on walking around holding a thousand dollar laptop around in their arms all day in the first place right? This is great for a desktop replacement and all around PC for any home or home business. Oh yeah, it's a touch screen to boot! Doesn't get any better than this! Will update this in 6 months to let you know how she's holding up.

Worst Computer Ever!!!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nothing but problems! This computer is extremely slow and takes a very very long time to start up. The touch screen goes out of control and is erratic. This requires a restart and then I have to wait again for a very long start up. Windows Hello camera seldom works. This computer is a piece of junk. Type in HP Envy piece of junk and look at all of the negative comments. I am sorry I wasted my money on this useless piece of junk.

doesn't work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have yet to geT on this computer that it doesn't take several minutes to get on a website. I have called tech support several times and the last guy told me I hadn't called before. It makes me happy to hear I'm lying about what I did or maybe I had a dream or should I say nightmare! They always say it's an easy fix but always ends in resetting my computer which ends in reloading everything

Computer Sucks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not sure if this a Windows 10 problem or a HP problem, but this computer sucks. I have had to do multiple restarts, and a reload to original settings. The screen goes black on multiple occasions. The video driver is a fail from the beginning. I hate this computer. I never had these problems on other computers. I will not buy another HP. I am seriously considering switching to Mac after this.

Looks pretty
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since the day I bought this laptop, told it should last about 6 years it freezes constantly and I have nothing on the computer!!!!! Have a new Wi-Fi with Comcast so I know that is not the problem. Going to have to bring it back to Best Buy to have them look at it, not even a month old. I wonder if this was purchased and returned and put back into inventory. Worst computer I ever bought!!!
