Might work better as a boat anchor...

Worst printer I have ever owned. It started leaking oil into the paper tray 3 weeks after I set it up. By then the 15 day Best Buy warranty was expired. Spent endless hours on hold with HP trying to find someplace to exchange or repair under HP warranty. Each time I was able to actually get through and speak to a human about the problems, I was told it was just the ink cartridges leaking and to order new cartridges from the HP Ink program. Did this 3 times, and every time it continued to leak oil. Never could get a phone number or address on how to have it covered by the manufacturer warranty and was really upset by the way I was treated. Thought about just leaving it in front of the doors to Best Buy so they would have to pick up the #%@ in order to get in the next morning. I ended up purchasing a new laptop and was looking at new printers too. A well-informed Geek Squad member mentioned the Trade-in Program and suggested I bring the horrible HP printer back and trade it in toward a new printer - which I did. I will never purchase HP products again. Mom had terrible experience with a HP Computer also. Like I said in the beginning - it was a terrible printer... but might work better as a boat anchor.

      Hi there,

I'm so sorry for the terrible experience you've had with this printer. There's certainly no excuse for not providing you with a more seamless printer replacement process under your warranty. I want to let you know that this is far from the quality printer and support experience that we intend on providing, and I really regret that we missed the mark.

Despite these impressions, I really hope that you'll still consider allowing us an opportunity in the future to prove that we stand by both our products and our customers.

    Office Jet Pro 6968 Review

    TedsReviews

Printing is very slow, as comparison to other HP Printers I have used for over 20 years. The touch viewing screen utilizes only a small amount of space, it could have used. The touch icons on the top row are so small it is difficult to select an item, with a finger. The screen is slanting upward, without a way to have it facing straight forward. This could have easily been taken care of by having a screen which could be adjustable with either an upward slant or straight forward. The prior HP printer I had had the screen so it could be adjusted with two options, either upward or straight forward. I purchased this HP printer, as it was critical, because a better HP printer was NOT delivered by UPS, on the day promised. I have used HP always, and they have been very reliable and with fast printing. This HP printer definitely is not fast and overall a very big disappointment. The printing, at first look is very well defined, and printing a color document on plain HP paper is very good. I have not printed photographs yet, so I do not know the results. With the very slow speed of printing documents a color photograph will probably be very slow. Set up was excellent and precise, as long as you have the router code to input when asked. The options in the software, in reference to printing quality are inadequate, and without the choice of best printing on every day printing choice. HP instant ink was available, which appears to be an additional good option. I have only had the printer for a few days, so using HP Instant Ink outcome is unknown. I would not recommend this HP printer, unless there is a urgent need and the only HP Printer available in its class. I chose the printer anyways, because it was urgent, and the better HP Printer did NOT arrive, as promised. My prior HP Printer that had a failed print head was excellent in dependability and especially fast considering the year manufactured.

      Hi Ted,

I appreciate this very thorough review! I am sorry to hear that you are having some speed and printing problems, but hope to be able to help fix them.

First of all, upgrading your firmware and loading the full-featured software can help many performance issues, particularly speed and printing options. Downloads of both of those can be found here:
      support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-6960-all-in-one-printer-series/8289579/model/11161242

OK, except auto power-off can't be disabled

I have always liked HP printers and when my old HP finally quit working after about 8 years, I was more than happy to buy another HP printer. When I saw this printer I thought it had a lot of great features for the price. The two-sided printing capability along with wireless printing was a big step up from my previous printer. Also, the HP instant-ink option seemed like a pretty good deal with getting automatic ink replacements for only $3 per month. The printer appears well-built, but the firmware has a very poor "feature" that has me very disappointed - enough to consider returning it. Keep in mind that I was intending to use this printer solely in wireless mode, which the printer is capable of doing. However, the printer will only stay online for a maximum of 8 hours and then will automatically shut off. When this happens, the printer will not automatically turn back on when a print job is queued up over the wireless network. The automatic power-off cannot be disabled, which is a huge issue if you want to be able to print wireless without having to walk over to the printer to turn it back on after it automatically shuts off. I contacted HP support about this and was told that HP does not allow you to disable the automatic power-off feature because they are concerned about energy saving. I told them my requirement for keeping the printer on was important and that HP should give their customers the option to disable energy saving features if they choose to do so. HP said that they would not allow me to disable this option. It sounds like HP is more concerned about energy savings than they are about keeping their customers happy.

      Hello Ken,

I am sorry that the energy-saving feature is not working the ways you'd like. According to your user guide, "Auto-Off is disabled when a printer’s wireless or Wi-Fi Direct capability is turned on or when a printer with fax, USB, or Ethernet network capability establishes a fax, USB, or Ethernet network connection."

The user guide also mentions that you can schedule times for the printer to be on and off. I'm hoping that help the situation. If you don't have the guide handy, you can reference the online version here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05135226

3 stars is for the printer as it functioned well but had a few issues that could be better. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR HP INSTANT INK!!! THEY controll when your printer works and doesnt work and then points fingers when their systems dont function properly. HP Instant Ink has locked me out of using my own printer. There was a glitch with connection between printer & Instant Ink. Tried every trouble shooting tip possible. Called Tech from HP, he tried remotely accessing my printer log in, router log in and computer log in and still could not resolve. In fact, he made it worse! Printer wont even connect to WiFi now! Called Geek Squad, they tried accessing remotely and said HP Instant Ink had to fix it, nothing wrong with connection, computer or printer. Called HP Instant Ink, they spent 2 hours making it worse. Called HP directly, said to get back to HP Instant Ink! I asked them to just restore to factory settings, and I'm now locked out of that too! Who's taking the responsibility for this mess??? Regardless, avoid the drama and get another brand without all the fuss.

The printer provides value since you can print, scan, and do other essential functions. It looks modern and has a touch screen which helps to interact with the printer. I have not connected the fax or the wireless functions, so I can’t comment on the quality of these functions. In my case, this printer is lightly used. A strong recommendation is to use quality thicker weight paper when scanning multiple pages since they tend to stick together when lower paper weight paper is used. Also buy extra ink, sometimes they offer a "bundle" discount. At the store, I was not sure what the difference was between this model and the HP OfficeJet Pro 6878 which is slightly better; according to the description it prints 1000 pages, this model only prints 115 pages. I would have paid the difference knowing this information. I asked for information at the store and no one knew the answer. In hindsight, I would still buy this printer (for very light printing) but would have preferred the HP Office Jet Pro 6968 for the ink savings. Someone from HP stated that there is an ink cartilage 906XL that can be used to print 1300 pages, but don't know if its comparable with this model.

I just purchased this printer based on reviews, after doing a lot of research, to replace a Canon MX350 we've had for years. The major capability I was looking for is a simple wireless setup and ability to support printing from Windows 10, iOS and Android. Out of the box, it took me maybe 15-20 minutes to set up, the instructions were easy and intuitive. I really don't understand why manufacturers ship install CDs, most of our devices don't have CD drives, and everything's online anyway. Installing drivers on two Surface Pro devices was very simple (just go to 123.hp.com/setup), and there was nothing to set up for an iPad, it just found the printer and printed through AirPrint. We don't do a huge amount of printing, so we'll see about ink usage (the one negative I've read about HP printers is that they consume ink like crazy). I chose not to sign up for Instant Ink right now, although I like the idea in concept, I'm not sure we do enough printing to justify the monthly fee. Occasionally we print photos, which I haven't tried yet - will update this review in a few months when we've had a chance to use more of the features. Especially at this price, I'd highly recommend this printer!

Bad printer that fails. Get the extended warranty

So I bought this back in the summer 2017. The thought was that I would get a good printer from a name brand mfg. I also wanted the ink plan thinking I would print at least 50 pages a month. I hardly hit that number monthly, no worries. So I finally printed enough to need new cartridges, the cyan, magenta and yellow first. The fun began when I had to replace the black cartridge. It failed to print. On the phone with HP and around and around we go until they decide they used up enough of my time and they need to replace the printer. So 2 days later new printer comes in and around and around we go until they again waste enough of my time and decide to replace the printer again. Would not align and print straight. So now I wait 5-7 days for this printer to show up. If this one fails I am taking back to best buy and using by Geek Squad extended warranty and no more HP support. They are awful. If you buy this make sure you get the Geek Squad warranty you will need it. Do not pay more than $99 for the printer.

      Hello,

I'm so very sorry about the frustrations you have experienced! I do hope the new printer works well for you.

To help you to use less ink, there are two tricks that might help. First of all, you can use the draft mode setting, or you could try the setting that prints in black and white only.

Also, you might consider enrolling in the Instant Ink program. There are plans for different usage rates and can save you money on cartridges: hpinstantink.com

I purchased this printer for under $100 and for that price, this is a very capable printer. From unboxing to printing, it took less than 15 minutes. Setup was super easy - just unpack, install ink, run setup & printhead calibration, connect to wifi and get printing. Both my Dell and Macbook pro recognized the printer in seconds. The Dell/Windows automatically installed the drivers and the accompanying software in the background without me even knowing. Before I knew, there was a HP icon on my desktop which I appreciated. The print quality on regular letter size paper was fine. I haven't printed any photos so can't speak to the photo quality. The print speed is not the fastest but then this is not a $300 printer either. Copying and scanning works perfectly too. Haven't tested fax yet. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to print directly from flash drives and sd cards but again, this printer is under $100. Overall a good buy!

I purchased this printer from Best Buy in New Jersey almost two years ago. As I approach the two-year mark, this printer has stopped functioning as intended. Don't get me wrong, I love the features; touch screen, scanner, ability to print from my phone or email a document directly to the printer for printing. But as of two weeks ago, it no longer prints with black ink. I tried everything. I purchased an official HP ink cartridge to replace my existing one - $41 from Best Buy - and that did not fix the problem. I followed every troubleshooting guide I could find online, directing me to print test pages (eating up loads of the cyan/magenta/yellow ink), conduct printer maintenance, clean the print heads (via the printer function), reinstall the driver software. Nothing worked. The printer registers that there is black ink, but it refuses to use it. A two-year-old printer, well maintained, in mint condition, and it won't print blank ink. Not worth the money. I won't be buying an HP printer again.

"Paper Jam" but no paper jam

I bought this printer in July of 2016. It worked out great initially! I used it to print out papers for school and I had three roommates who all used it too! Then in January of 2017 I got back to school, I went to boot up my printer and it said "paper jam" so I looked and did not find one. I ended up going through their online help service and did all the steps, but none of them worked. They eventually agreed to send me a refurbished printer (which made me a little upset because my printer was basically brand new). It started working again and I used it the rest of the school year and all the way through December of 2017. Then I go back to school in January of 2018 and what do you know "Paper Jam" pops up again. I again went online and went through all the steps. It still says Paper Jam. I have given up on this printer and have decided to buy a new one. DO NOT BUY IT DOES NOT LAST VERY LONG

I was looking for a wireless printer that did not take up a lot of space. I needed one that could also copy and scan. The sales associate steered me to this printer and it has met all my expectations. It was very easy to set up. It was a bit larger than the one I was looking at but it had more features for only a few dollars more. It also has fax ability which I did not need but it is standard with most of these type of printers so you do not pay extra for this feature. The print quality is excellent and it prints pages at a good speed. The only con I have is the OEM replacement ink cartridges are very pricey. I have found this to be true with most printers. I have found a place that has replacement cartridges for half price but they are not OEM so I will see how the printer performs using these knock off cartridges. This printer also has an option for using the HP instant ink program which gets you the ink for 50% less but I do not print enough to utilize the program.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. It replaced an older Canon all-one that had seen better days. I walked into Best Buy looking for a printer and as luck would have it - two HP reps were on-site answering customers questions about their products. For my printing needs, they recommended this HP OfficeJet Pro 6968, capable of scanning, faxing, copying and of course printing. The price was excellent and competitive, so I took this one home. I've been very pleased. I've used the printer in all of its functions and got great results. This printer is instant ink capable so I signed up for that. This option will deliver significant savings vs buying ink cartridges as I need them. What's not to like about having ink delivered to your door before you need it. I've printed a number of color prints with this printer on photo paper and it handled the job with ease, producing high quality output. Using HP's print service plugin, I can also send print to my printer from my tablet and phone.

purchased 7/10/2018 worked great till 5 weeks ago when the black stopped printing. I cleaned the print head twice (@ 3 pages each time) it cleared and I printed 5 pages. Two weeks later I tried to use it and same problem so this time I called HP (after spending aprx. 45 min. trying to find a customer support phone #) they had me do a reset on the printer and it cleared the problem for about 3 weeks. now same problem so I called the direct # 844-760-7207 and gave them my case # then after cleaning the print head 1 more time @ 3 pages again they agreed to replace the black cartridge. Then he told me that I should turn off my printer if I am not going to print for a day or so I should turn off the printer. The only problem with turning off the printer is that if I want to e-print from anywhere other than my house I can,t because my printer is off (not a good solution)

I bought this about an hour before I had to leave for work. Got home and began setting up and was surprised how easy HP made this thing to get going. Directions are very clear and easy to understand even for someone who may not know much about computers and accessories. I got it set up from out of the box to actually printing my docs in about 20 minutes all while baking a side of salmon....when it was done I was also surprised at how easy it connects to EVERYTHING I want it to. Phone, home network tablet and anything else I could think of. My biggest love about this printer is that it scans documents directly into my Google Drive. For someone always on the go and also a forgetful person...not having my computer on me can be a real possibility and may still need access to documents. ANY device I can log into google with can serve as my computer with all my documents right where I am. I love this thing. It's not loud, not expensive and really prints and scans in very good quality too. BUY THIS ONE...SERIOUSLY. BTW HP lady at best buy was awesome....told her in about 5 words what I needed and she said BOOM this is the one...and she is right.

This is the worst printer I ever owned. Every time I try to print there is always something wrong. 1. If I try to print more than 1 page at a time it jams 2. Tells me there are paper jams when there are not 3. Tells me there is no ink/toner when the ink cartridges are fine 4. Tells me I should have powered off with power button (even though I did use power button) 5. Tells me to call HP because there is a fatal error 6. Can never find the paper in the tray. This is all after I followed the instructions and tips on cleaning, etc. I really just want to return this and get my money back but I can't find my receipt so I will probably just throw it in the trash as it's not worth my time dealing with it. I bet all the positive reviews are from folks in the first month. Good luck if you buy this printer.

I have owned multiple HP printers over the last 25 years. The All-In-One 6960 was purchased to replace a 5 year old OfficeJet All-In-One printer whose printer head was out. The unit failed to print when I first hooked it up. Customer service sent new color cartridges. These demo units gave me 9 whole pages of color print ... then they went out. Bought new ones. The software download is problematic. The only way to scan is from the unit panel. No scan from your desktop?? Just tried to print and the unit has no color (I did get about 25 pages out of this batch) and fading black and white. HP is focused on selling ink. Every step you are asked to enroll in their ink replacement program. I will replace this unit with something other than HP. I should have ordered the printer head for my old unit .... sorry to see HP go down so quick.

    Ink Cartridges are a Joke

I recently purchased this printer because I needed a wireless hookup. While the printer works well so far, my gripe is that with less than thirty sheets printed so far, I've already had to replace the black ink cartridge and now with the new cartridge and maybe six pages printed, it's saying the ink is low again and if I sign up for auto delivery I'll never have to worry about running out of ink. Is this a joke? And yes, I did buy HP ink cartridges. At this rate I'll be spending hundreds of dollars on ink per year. I don't print much, so I can't imagine what people who do are spending on ink. Did I just get a dud, or does this printer just average a few sheets of print per cartridge? I would not recommend this printer for this reason. Terrible!

      Hi there,

I'm so sorry to hear you've been unhappy with the printer's ink consumption. We're certainly committed to providing a much more economical experience with our printers, so I can imagine how disappointing this is. With that said, I'd like to see how I can help with some improvements.

First, I have a few suggestions for lowering ink consumption that you might try. One is that I recommend using the printer's draft mode, as this can often improve ink usage. Secondarily, you could also set the printer to print black and white only.

I'd also like to quickly talk about those pop-ups you mentioned. Though they happen frequently, you might consider looking into the service advertised, as it's based on how many pages you print monthly, which ultimately saves you money on ink. If your printer usage is minimal, Instant Ink also offers a subscription plan that allows you to print 15 pages a month for free. If you're at all interested, you can visit this link for more information: HPinstantink.com

If you have any other questions about this, please remember you can reach out to us for support anytime. We're always happy to help. You can contact us directly via your preferred method at this link: hp.com/contactHP

This printer is a huge piece of junk. We've owned it for 3 months and we can't get it to print two days in a row yet. We've gone through the "starter" ink packs. After replacing them with new (genuine HP) cartridges, the printer wants them to be replaced again after less than 100 sheets. The printer loses WiFi continuously. Using a USB cable as backup works sometimes, but even that has issues. We print from two laptops, both of which have problems. Printing from my phone has its own set of problems. Apparently the only thing HP has invested huge amounts of effort is the automatic ink reordering option so they can send you new ink cartridges every month. Wish they would build a printer that lasted long enough to need a refill.

We have had the HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 printer for our small business (2 people printing and scanning) for less than a year and a half. After replacing the black ink cartridge with an authentic one (since those are the only ones it accepts as opposed to cheaper off-brands) it stopped printing any black ink at all. Weeks before that, the scanning was unreliable. After trying every troubleshooting solution recommended, I talked to someone with customer support. Our product was out-of-warranty so they tried to sell us a new HP printer at a "discounted price" (which wasn't discounted at all!) I will not be purchasing another HP product and I am stuck with 3 full ink cartridges. Disappointing experience through and through.

I could not get it to load at all on wireless. I had to hardware it to do anything. The wireless continued to drop on the printer. My computer said it didn't exist. I returned for another one after the tech couldn't get it to work either. Got home with new one....same thing. Had to call GEEK squad.... He was very nice and patience. He finally got it to print!! But after one print document.....stopped. I have to turn it off and on each time I wanted to print. If the document was several pages, it would stop in the middle. Again, turn off/on and start all over!!! I am returning it ..... TODAY!!!!
