Overall, I feel like this is a really solid device. However, it does have a few shortcomings that should be addressed. First off, the performance is pretty decent. It's had a bit of trouble with some 4K gaming on titles such as Control, especially with ray tracing on. However, at lower resolutions I haven't had a problem running anything. All the benchmarks I've thrown at it come out pretty good, except for the ones designed to test 4K gaming and ray tracing. When I'm not trying to push this thing with 4K, I genuinely haven't come across a single performance issue. The CPU chews through everything just fine, the included storage is fast and doesn't seem to be a load-time bottleneck, and while I'm really not a fan of modern GPUs having only 8GB of VRAM it seems to be getting by just fine in 1080p. I've got no complaints about the onboard wireless card - download speeds are great, and I haven't noticed too much latency or jitter in any online games I've played. It would be kind of nice if there was another USB-C port as some of my gaming peripherals tend to use that, but they've got enough USB3 ports and I've got enough adapters that I'm not too fussed about it. Boot times are pretty snappy, and best of all? I haven't had a single driver issue. Not one bluescreen or weird crash to troubleshoot. HP seems to actually have their drivers nailed down pretty good with this one, and I really appreciate that. I have no complaints about the physical construction of the computer, other than maybe questioning why only one DIMM of RAM. The machine both looks nice and feels nice to the touch. The window on the side is actual glass, most of the case appears to be metal aside from the plastic front, and I appreciate that it's got the RGB CPU and case fans that are compatible with Windows Dynamic Lighting. (The RAM being RBG is also nice.) The case is pretty easy to get into so that you can get at the upgradeable components and clean the internals, as well. My biggest complaint is honestly about the upgrade potential of this machine. Due to the proprietary motherboard and power supply form factors, this computer is never going to be much more than this. You can't really upgrade it to keep up with the times. You could maybe swap in another graphics card as long as you don't go for one that has a much higher power draw (especially since HP did set the system up with one of those dual-8-pin-PCIe-to-12V-2x6 adapters which to their credit does offer more flexibility), you might be able to get away with upgrading the CPU to a more powerful one from the same generation maybe, and there's also full access to the two NVMe SSD slots and the Wi-Fi card slot. However, there's nowhere to put things like SATA HDDs or SSDs for extra storage, and the fact that you're stuck with the proprietary 500w power supply just feels really limiting. I know this thing is designed to be compact, but I feel like even a higher-wattage power supply or a MicroATX/ITX motherboard would have helped the longevity of this thing. I like this machine a lot more than I thought I would. It's just generally a nice and simple machine that seems to be doing everything I ask without too much trouble or crashing or other issues. Honestly, if you want a "first gaming computer" or just want to use a couple of NVMe drives and aren't too interested in keeping up with upgrades, I would say to go for it. My recommendation becomes even stronger if you live somewhere where you're a bit pressed for space but still want decent power and don't particularly want a laptop. If upgrades are a hard line for you, however, you should stay away as this machine isn't compatible with most of them.

The HP OMEN 16L with Intel Core i5-14400F is a solid machine that is super compact and quiet. The machine comes equipped with 16GB RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD that for an entry gaming machine is about perfect. The star of the show is the RTX 5060ti and it offers excellent performance across nearly every AAA title I threw at it up to 1440p. Nvidia has done an admirable job of wringing the most performance possible through their upscaling technology, DLSS. It definitely goes a long way towards making the system a solid gaming machine for the average player. The biggest issue really is the 8GB of RAM on the card. If you try to push about 1440p to an ultra widescreen or 4K you may notice some frame rate hitching as you will be saturating the onboard memory and swapping will occur. I don't really even understand why Nvidia continues to make cards with 8GB in 2025. That all said, I think for the audience that HP is targeting with this machine configuration it should be an excellent performer for a good long while. Especially if you are playing games like Valorant, Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, etc. The machine is very quiet and connectivity with wireless is solid. I would have liked to have seen Wi-Fi 7, but I understand it isn't really widely adopted and not necessary. The included mouse and keyboard do the job, but will probably the first thing to replace. Overall, the HP OMEN 16L is a nice, compact entry-level gaming desktop.

The HP Omen series continues to become more compact with each release while maintaining a desktop gaming standard and sleek looks to their units. As the units become more compact, the packaging continues to stay eco-friendly. The system ships with what appears to be standard desktop peripherals, wired mouse and keyboard. They are white to match the Panada case look. One thing I have noticed, is as the Omen gaming unit become more compact, there is an elimination of the mother/system board plate to rebuild the unit into another case if needed. The chassis provided is built to the mobo specs for use. Looking over the system board, there are limited upgrade options for expansion. It does use NVME as the primary drive stores. The primary easily upgradable items are the RAM and NVME store if needed. The system does have a Wi-Fi card, the processor fan and RAM are RGB and are initially set to match the “Panda” look in a nice stale white look. The PSU (power supply unit) is a 500W unit, looks upgradable, but also slightly smaller than a standard PSU, which may not be possible. The video card (GPU) is an NVIDIA compact RTX series card to limit the amount space taken and fit into the case. This is nice as for a while now, they have been taking over the case and limiting upgrade and case options at times. Overall, the machine runs quiet and appears to stay nice and cool, through plenty of cooling and design flow to keep all of the pull and directional flow. Bottomline, air flows nicely through the case. Testing brough a WinOS Home version, may be upgraded if Pro is needed. Performance is overall great to include the frame rates and graphics for various graphic and RAM intensive games tested. All games were very responsive with overall good smoothing of the images and game play with no noticeable lag. Grab it now while the price is right.

All in all, this is a very solid PC. It is good but not great for gaming. I definitely recommend getting the 16 GB of video memory. It would make a huge difference. Most games play and play well, but I have run into issues with the graphics and being forced into lower resolution. But that is for the most intense games. I also ran into a issue where my HDMI cable suddenly became bad. No fault of the PC, but I went back and had the same memory issues that forced me to a lower resolution after swapping cables. Oddly there is only one UBC type c port and that is on the front. There are 4 USB ports on the back along with one HDMI and multiple Display Port on the video card. Doing a performance test gives the machine decent marks, we are talking 95th percentile overall. Another aspect that will need a upgrade at some point is the memory, currently sits at 16 GB. That is enough for now, but games are more and more dependent on both video and system memory. The size of the case is quite small. It is well laid out, but limits the internal expansion possibilities. Overall, very happy with the system. As day to day PC, this is excellent. Gaming is good, but like I said not great. I definitely recommend going with higher memory configurations if you can.

This rig is pretty solid for casual to moderate gaming. The RTX 5060 Ti 8GB GDDR7 has a lot of controversy surrounding it. I agree that a modern GPU should have at least 12GB of RAM and preferably 16GB, considering the price. That’s not mentioning the little to no overall performance increase compared to the previous generation of GPUs. In spite of that, I found it handled games like God of War, Cyberpunk, and Spiderman at a pretty smooth 1440p resolution/60+fps on high settings, which is great. Compared to my old 10-year-old gaming PC with an Intel Core i7-5820K and GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 FH GFX, this new HP OMEN is without a doubt an enormous upgrade. I’m not sure if it's a realistic comparison for normal consumers, but I try to wait several years before I upgrade my devices in general, but especially my computer. It’s such a large expense. Conducted a Google search, I found that the Intel i5-14400 CPU offers a 100% to 150% performance increase over the i7-5820 K, and the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB GDDR7 GPU offers a 300% to 400% performance increase over the GTX 960 2GB. In everyday use and gaming, the comparison is absurd and unfair…I know. I was missing so much being stuck in the past, but money doesn’t grow on trees, and you do what you can with what you have. The CPU and SSD are quick and the wireless card gives me good download speeds and low latency for online games. Plus, I haven't run into any annoying driver issues or crashes so far, that's always a win. I'm sure it will happen since its Windows. I have it connected to my living room TV where I can stream Plex, stream games, movies, and play emulators. It handles Switch, PS2, and PS3 emulation incredibly well. I love sharing 16-bit and 64-bit games from my childhood with my kids on the Omen. When it comes to design, it's surprisingly compact for a gaming PC, and it runs quietly. You wouldn't know it was there if it wasn’t for the front panel LED. The build quality feels good too, with a real glass side window and mostly metal construction. You get some nice RGB lighting on the front fan, CPU fan, and RAM that works with Windows Dynamic Lighting, which is a neat touch. My young kids think its so cool when the lights flash. And if you're like me and have some compulsive cleaning habits, it's pretty easy to get inside for cleaning and maintaining. Now, for the stuff that's not so good. The included wired keyboard and mouse are super basic – they're white and show fingerprints easily, so you'll probably want to upgrade those right away if you’re gaming more than just casually. The 1TB SSD is a bit small, especially if you're installing a lot of big games, though there is an extra NVMe M.2 slot if you need more storage. My biggest gripe, though, is the upgradeability. HP uses proprietary motherboards and power supplies, which limit your options down the road. You might be able to swap out the graphics card if the power draw is similar, and a CPU upgrade within the same generation could work, but that proprietary 500W power supply is a real bottleneck. Don't expect to add traditional SATA HDDs or SSDs for more storage either, as there are no bays for them. On the bright side, you can access the two NVMe SSD slots and Wi-Fi card slot, and it only comes with one stick of RAM, so adding more memory is an easy upgrade. Software-wise, there's a bit of pre-installed "bloatware," like a McAfee trial and a bunch of HP apps that do almost the same thing. But the Omen Gaming Hub and Light Studio apps are pretty useful for customizing things and checking performance. Overall, if you're looking for a solid "first gaming PC" or something that fits in a tight space and you're not planning on major upgrades in the future, this HP OMEN 16L is a decent option. It delivers good performance for moderate gaming in a compact and good-looking package, but just be aware of those proprietary component limitations and basic peripherals. I could have built a similar PC but it would have cost me $100 or more to build. I would have had a clear upgrade path with a better motherboard and power supply. Though, I would have missed out on the nice case and warranty. Something to think about.

Not sure why HP decided to ship a really basic low-end wired keyboard and mouse with a gaming PC. Most gaming enthusiasts will likely be using a much higher quality and, or wireless peripherals. I’m sure the cost was negligible, but it could have been used towards the somewhat paltry 1TB of disk storage which will quickly be eaten up by a few large game installs. Fortunately, there is an additional NVMe m.2 expansion slot to add more storage. There was a little bit of pre-installed bloatware, but it was not too bad. Removed the McAfee trial as I’m not a big fan of it along with several other shortcuts in start menu for other software that I was not interested in. There were at least a half of a dozen HP apps for managing your computer installed with some overlap between them such as myHP, HP Hardware Diagnostics, HP System Info, and the HP support app. The most interesting one, especially for gamers, would be the Omen Gaming Hub and Light Studio apps. The hub is nice for customizing your system and visualizing performance, but you must put up with it trying to peddle games and other add-ons. Being a small case there is not a lot of customizable lighting but there are a few to play around with. The front fan, CPU fan, and RAM module have RGB that you can customize. The small side window allows you to see the inside lighting. For a somewhat modest gaming build I was impressed with the performance. You probably wouldn’t be playing hi-res fast motion 4K games on this but for most casual to moderate gaming it will perform well. It ran a consistent 60fps in Diablo IV with the game graphic’s settings on high. I Moved from a 6-year-old gaming PC with a Core I7 9700 and an RTX 2080 Super which was high-end at the time. I was surprised that this entry level gaming system bested my old one by a fair amount in all categories. The I5-14400 was on average 40% better in all categories with 2 more cores and double the threads. The RTX 5060 also outperformed the 2080, which was a higher end card for its time by about 25%

I want to start off by saying that I am a huge fan of pre-builds because of the warranty and guarantees that usually come with them. If there's an issue, it's solved immediately and saves the headache of trying to diagnose the issue yourself. That said, this desktop was a breeze to get going. It truly is a simple plug n' play. Simply unboxed it and got right to it. The setup was a breeze, no issues there. Build quality is also impressive. It has a sleek and small form factor, and it could probably fit anywhere you need it to. It also comes with a basic keyboard and mouse, so if you're in a pinch, that's pretty nice. This specific build really shines while gaming in 1080p or 1440p. I usually use a 4k monitor, and while it was not the absolute worst experience, it wasn't really optimal. However, in lower resolution, it performed well, and the temps were great. Zero issues with lag or stuttering. This new gen of Nvidia GPUs is great in my opinion. That said, it is important to note that this GPU is the 8GB version, not the 16GB version, which could be a non-starter if you're looking for more VRAM. It comes with 16GB of RAM on one stick, which is not my preference, but should be fine for the average user. It also comes with 1TB of storage, which is lovely and should give you enough space for your favorite games. It also comes with plenty of USB ports!! Overall, this gaming desktop is a great package, and I think it would be a great rig in the right circumstances. It won't be playing triple-A titles on max settings, but it will be extremely enjoyable at 1080p and 1440p. Def recommend!

The Omen by HP is a lightweight smaller than average tower that has some quality specs but doesn’t meet the standards necessary for hardcore gamers. The graphic settings had to be adjusted to allow for optimal gaming experience on some of the more advanced games downloaded and played on the Omen. It’s a white colored tower which includes a white colored (wired keyboard and mouse). Set up was easy. If you’re looking for a PC that fits a smaller space, doesn’t take a lot of room and meant for those needing a PC for various tasks and not just gaming, then the Omen is a decent PC to fulfill those needs. The price range is decent for having a graphics card and processor that renders it a gaming PC. I was delighted to have a light-in-weight and small version of a gaming PC. For me it’s suitable for my needs. It has just enough power, memory, Ram, etc all Within a smaller PC. It comes with McAfee pre-installed. FREE for 30 days. If you want to sign up for more days, there’s an option to do so. Windows 11 is the operating system and comes with co-pilot installed and ready to use. I would recommend to someone who is new to gaming or not heavily into games that require the higher range of specs needed to run those types of games.

    Conclusive decision

The HP Omen desktop line offers a compelling series of gaming PCs, covering a wide range of performance tiers and user needs. High-end models like the Omen 45L showcase innovative cooling and serious gaming muscle, while more compact models like the 16L provide a space-saving option without sacrificing too much power. That said, prospective buyers should be aware of the potential trade-offs: thermal performance depends on the model, support and reliability can be hit or miss, and the cost reflects the convenience of a prebuilt system. For gamers who value performance and want to skip building their own PC, Omen desktops are among the stronger options on the market — but due diligence (e.g., reading user reviews, checking warranty terms) is strongly recommended.

The HP OMEN 16L Gaming Desktop is a solid all-around performer that delivers great value, especially for casual gamers and multitaskers. One of the first things that impressed me is the compact size. It doesn’t take up too much space on or under a desk, which is a huge plus if you’re working with limited room. Despite its smaller footprint, this machine packs a punch where it counts. With the Intel Core i5-14400F and 16GB of fast DDR5 memory, everything runs smooth and snappy — from web browsing and media editing to gaming sessions after work. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 8GB of GDDR7 delivers strong performance in most modern titles, especially if you're not someone who needs ultra settings at 4K. It’s perfect for casual gamers or those who play on medium to high settings at 1080p or 1440p and still want a fluid experience. Outside of gaming, it’s a great productivity machine. I’ve used it for video editing, streaming, and multitasking across multiple applications without a hitch. The 1TB SSD ensures plenty of fast storage and quick boot times. It’s also a nice bonus that HP includes a keyboard and mouse in the box. They’re fine for general use, but I’d recommend getting dedicated peripherals for gaming. Overall, this OMEN is a great buy for someone looking for a balanced, compact, and capable desktop that handles both work and play with ease.
