Before I get too far into review, realize that this is used almost exclusively for World of Warcraft, with some HoTS thrown in now and then. Not battlefield or for honor or other games, so my thoughts on it are based from WoW alone. That being said, this is a beautiful laptop. The screen is incredibly crisp and vibrant. It IS a little heavy, but you're hopefully not considering a 17" laptop thinking it's going to be featherweight. Load times are almost non existent. My monthly pc health reports from Trendmicro show that the average time for my pc to turn on is 1 second, thanks to the ssd. In true HP fashion, it DOES run hot, and the fans run loud. I've never owned an HP that didn't have similar traits, they just seem to love making their laptops run hot. I still get 100+ fps on WoW, even with many many many add-ons running, while in raid on max graphics, and usually play with headphones on anyways so you don't notice the fan. The touchpad is awkwardly placed, and shouldn't even be on a gaming laptop. If you're buying this, you're using a mouse with it. The keyboard had very clean response. I can't comment on battery life, because, well, who actually games without being plugged in? I am not disappointed in this purchase at ALL, and would definitely recommend it. Just make sure you leave the cooling vent uncovered when playing.

processor speed , storage supported by solid state give faster info reading , much better performance. Can handle huge amount of info like nothing, best laptop on the market.Unfortunately HP is using very low low quality materials on the external body in their units lately, shame , that machine in a cardboard box

This is a good mid-range gaming and amateur video editing laptop. At this size and weight it's more of a portable desktop that can move from location to location but that's the way it's used so it's great. The specs are all good and it was a slam dunk buying decision when it went on sale.
Pro's:
Fast quad core I7 processor with hyper-threading.
Fast and roomy 256GB SSD for quick application launch.
7200RPM 1TB spinning drive for mass storage at reasonable speeds.
GTX 965M video card specs about the same as 960 desktop card.
17in screen and lots of available ports.
12GB memory out of the box
Cons:
Plastic body identical to Pavilion series in quality so - eh.
Battery life ok at best (big screen eats it up).
Lighted keyboard could be brighter.
Already on clearance? Really?
Trully, though, for the sale price you couldn't match it. Too bad HP is speccing down to a 1050 in the new version. It keeps about the same performance but that's kind of cheap in my opinion.

This laptop is almost as powerful as my gaming desktop. I bought this when both my gaming computer and my home computer went down with hard drive errors. With the SSD boot up drive it boots in about 15 seconds. The discrete graphics are almost as fast as my game machine graphics. I am able to play all FPS games no problem. I am using 1600 x 1200 24" LCD TV. The only detraction is the lack of VGA connector. It only has HDMI. As I use a KVM switch to go back and forth between the HP OMEN and my HP SFF 8000 I need to hookup with VGA which also allows computer wake-up that HDMI does not. In order to do that I use an HDMI to VGA adapter that limits some of my monitors' capability. In total I am extremely happy with this computer.

Previously, I used an HP Pavilion dv7-7047cl 17.3" Laptop Intel i7-3610QM 2.3GHz 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, which still holds up surprisingly well. On that, newer games needed low graphics settings, or it would drop frames, but updating graphics drivers helped. Startup time was about 5 minutes total, including booting security. RAM would occasionally overload if I was doing too many things at once for too long.
On this, I can put games to the highest quality settings without any problems, well over 60fps. I wanted to test the limits, so I ran 2 heavy installs simultaneously while playing a game, and it was still barely noticeable. The anti-glare screen is nice, but the hinges are a nonsensical reflective chrome. Startup is insanely fast, like a few seconds. I don't need a lot of storage, so everything fits on the SSD with plenty to spare.
My only complaint is that the fan can be LOUD, so keep it ventilated, or use a cooling mat if that's an issue. It's not lightweight, but I'm used to that. The DVD/CD drive seems cheap, but at least it has one. Also, Windows 10 comes with a lot of bloatware you'll probably want to delete.

This was a replacement for a Sony Vaio that was having issues. I had researched and intended to purchase an HP envy, however when we arrived at the store I found out the envy had a dual core processor. My preference was for a quad. The associate demonstrated the Omen and I was truly impressed with start up time. This laptop boots in about 45 seconds due to the solid state drive. I am not a gamer and this is actually a gaming computer, but truly impressive for everyday use. I do not have the internet speed to truly realize the full potential of this unit, but with speeds averaging 4 to 5 mbps this laptop outperforms the Vaio even when the Vaio was new. I was pretty confident in purchasing an HP product due to past positive experiences with the brand. My only issue is that Facebook will not run on Google Chrome or Firefox due to the latest Windows build. However the newest Microsoft Edge browser is much faster than any previous version of Internet Explorer. The black finish with the red backlit keyboard also makes this an awesome looking computer as well.
One thing to note is that doing research, HP shows this to have an core I5 processor and in actuality it has the 6th generation core I7. Also the Best Buy description says it doesn't have a built in web cam when in fact it does.
For the money spent this is an excellent laptop and I look forward to years of satisfactory performance from it.

I bought Hp - Omen 17.3 Laptop - Intel Core I7 - 12gb Memory - Nvidia Geforce Gtx 965m - 1tb Hdd + 256gb SSD two weeks ago. All like I saw on U-tube video and read in reviews, it's quick, it has awesome screen, not heavy and still cold even when I played couple hours, but it is little bit noisy and you will see your fingerprints on it surface.

This replaced a 4 year old Envy that had been put through the ringer. My Envy took bout 3 minutes to load. This thing loads in seconds. Love the ssd and the 1 tb drive. The 1080p display is awesome. Lots of memory too. Graphics card seems to do a good job. I am one happy camper.Transfer rates to my external drive are very fast also. Just transferred 6.2 gigs in just over 1 minute. It's a keeper.

I needed a computer with a large screen. 17 inches is the biggest you can get in a laptop. I love the quality of this screen. However, 17 inches makes it hard to purchase laptop bags. More bag options are needed. My only complaint is that it is not a touch screen.
I needed a laptop with a DVD drive, so my options were limited. I haven't had an opportunity to test this drive yet. It is a little flimsy for my taste, but very few laptops are made with DVD drives now.
I needed a laptop that I could do video editing on that wasn't a MAC. This had two hard drives and a good video card making it an excellent option for video editing. However, it is a gaming computer and any time a gaming computer engages the video card it is LOUD. Much louder than I am used to....that being said, you can cut down on the noise by making sure it is on a stable surface. The HP cooling design can be triggered more frequently if it is on an unstable surface. (ie. make sure you use it on a table or other flat surface).
I love the lighted key board! I like to work in the dark and it has been helpful for finding keys I don't always use. Note: When I first purchased the computer I thought it was broken. There is a button on the keyboard to turn the lights off and on.
There are plenty of USB, HDMI, SD card slots, and even a slot for a telephone or modem direct hook-up.
I am not a fan of the power cord. I have broken them off of HP computers in the past. It was the catalyst to my previous switch to Lenovo. I have returned to HP for the options I needed not available in the new Lenovo models for the same price.
Overall, this computer fit all of my needs, except for having a touch screen, the loudness of the cooling system, and my dislike of the power cord design. I would definitely buy it again and refer it to a friend.

My only other experience with HP was from my first desktop purchase in 2000. That thing was junk, and customer service was terrible.
17 years later, I decide to give HP one more chance. So glad I did. I don't honestly know what it is about this Omen, but I absolutely love it. For the money, I couldn't have gotten a better out of the box laptop. I do some rather heavy 3d rendering, which I was worried this wouldn't be able to handle. It will get a little warm and the fan spins like crazy, but it gets the job done. It multitasks like a dream. Startup in under 5 seconds. Audio is superb. If I had any complains I'd have to say the hinges are pretty squeaky. That is me struggling to find something to complain about.
I did have a problem with it after about 6 months of owning it. I had plugged in a usb cable to charge my phone. Whether the computer or the cable was at fault, I don't know, but the instant I plugged my phone in, the screen went dead. I was unable to even get to BIOS. I thought, great, here we go again as I contacted customer service. But props to HP because their customer service is now incredible with competent individuals and much more organized service.
The computer ended up having to go in for service. It was a sad goodbye, but I got to keep tabs on it the entire time is was gone. I could see where it was, and what was being done to it, and what the results were. It was very reassuring. I had it back in 4 days. Unfortunately, it wasn't completely fixed, as there was a usb board separate from the motherboard that needed replaced as well. I was upset with having to send it back again, so HP overnighted me a box to my house, and overnighted it back to my house to minimize down time as much as possible. I can't be mad about an issue when the customer service is that awesome.
I've had no problems since, its been nearly a year since I bought it and I've been using it pretty hard since day one. At this point it has paid for itself.

This laptop is a beast! I can play any game on the highest settings and experience very little (or no lag) depending on the game. I love the laptop keyboard light. Note it does toggle on/off. The pieces that connects the screen to the keyboard are very sturdy, allowing me to use the laptop while my husband is driving. This laptop was suggested by a Bestbuy employee when the one I requested was unavailable. It does run hot occasionally, but not bad enough to affect what I am doing. The only con I can think of is that the power cord plugs in on the right side, so whenever you have a mouse hooked up it can get in the way for right handed people. But with a few adjustments you won't notice.

Bought this on sale at my local store for $300 off. I like the matte finish screen. Its fast to boot, and runs Forza Horizon 3 on high at 60fps. Its lightweight enough for a gaming laptop. The outer finish does pick up fingerprints very easily and gets marks on it from taking it in and out of my laptop bag. I am very happy with it, and most reviews that I read were accurate.

This is a great PC especially for the price. I am a graphic designer and usually purchase computers marketed for gaming to have the graphics and speed I need. This computer has a good graphics card and a decent amount of physical memory. I wish the SSD was a bit larger but I just installed my most used programs on the SSD and store my abundance of huge files on the HDD. It starts up in just seconds. I like the matte screen. Other than wishing the SSD was larger I guess the only other complaint I have is that i think it should come with 16 GB ram instead of the 12 installed. Easy enough to upgrade but why not just install 2 8s from the facory instead of a 4 and 8. I am sure some would prefer a touch screen but personally I don't care for fingerprints on my screen. Glad that it had a DVD drive too.

Bought this computer because I replacing my 5 year old HP laptop. At first, wasn't sure about buying another HP. I loved my old one, but have read some reviews that HP has gone downhill since then. I got this one based on reviews from others. I have to say that so far it has exceeded expectations. Lightening fast (love the SSD main diive), great graphics, keyboard has a nice feel. It handles what I want to do around the house and business without problems. Only issue is that it is relatively heavy (like most gaming computers) and the red back lit keyboard is more for show and doesn't really help you in the dark. Other than that, love this computer.
