Happy with HP
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my husband about 6 months ago. It's very quiet when running, much more so than my Dell. No problems at all. Satisfied.

Decent for the price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This not a high-end laptop, so I didn't have unrealistic expectations. Overall I am satisfied with what it offers for the price. I like Windows 10 a whole lot more than Windows 8 and the speed and build quality is adequate. The few complaints that I do have are minor. It does not have a back lit keyboard and the keys feel a little cheap. I don't like that this (any many of the newer laptops) don't have a light that indicates when the number lock is on. The speaker also sounds a little tinny. Other than that I think this is a pretty nice laptop.

No bueno
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop before leaving for a work trip about a month ago. Unfortunately it freezes up on me often. Just now actually. The frame seems to be made of a cheap plastic and has already broken/chipped on the corner just above the power button. Otherwise it has nice screen quality. Too late to exchange?

Not Bad, But Not Great Either
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was never really an HP fan, but found a good deal on one last year, with a 3rd gen I3, 17.3 inch screen, for 329$. Well a few keys stopped working intermittently after about a month or two. Even though the keyboard is better on this unit, it's still a concern. But for the price, the specs are very good. I'll just go by pros and cons, since it's not a whole lot different than the one I had before. PROS * Built Quality is good, as with most HP's, keys do feel a little cheap as others have said. Less chicklet like, which i prefer. If pushed hard enough I think they would go down into the laptop itself. * Sound is adequate, ,about the same as my other laptop. You're not going to be blown away by any laptop speakers. But they do put out good sound if you use Media Player. With the Groove Music app, not so much. * Very bright screen, almost too bright. But that's ok, very good viewing angles as well. * I5 is good, and it's a fifth gen, even though my I3 seems(ed) faster, with just browsing. Has a lot of power for video converting, editing etc. Also boots up pretty fast. Again WIndows 10 is still buggy, and takes up a lot of memory, compared to 8.1, which most don't know. CONS * Track Pad is decent but feels very cheap, I would much rather have two separate right and left mouse click buttons. Also the whole pad clicks if you push in the middle. And it's also not the most responsive when just lightly tapped. * Hard Drive is terribly loud, and runs about 80% of the time, but overall the rest of the laptop is quiet. And Laptops this big don't run hot at all. Which is another plus. * No Bluetooth which seems to be common in nearly every HP I've come across. Not sure why they choose not to include this, but I would rather have it, then not. * Wireless Adapter isn't the best, doesn't disconnect, but hangs up to five seconds or more on certain sites. Or you just have to reload it. Could be a drive problem, which I could update. I have 50mb with 150mb Blast, so it's certainly NOT my internet. And I've worked on computers for nearly 20 years. So I think I would probably know. So overall it's a good laptop for the money, yet still considered a budget PC. Even though 500$ is a lot of money these days. Years ago this would have been more like 900$. So i guess I can't complain (to much). The size helps with not hitting the trackpad when typing, since it doesn't have an off button. Backlit keyboard would have been nice as well. SAMS actually has this same laptop (design), with the same HDD, and Processor. But 8 gigs of RAM, backlit keyboard, and bluetooth. But it's nearly 700$. So I guess saving money is a good thing. I would recommend this to someone who likes a big screen laptop, Or for someone who wants desktop replacement. Which most people don't even use anymore, alongwith good build quality. Much better than Asus IMO. One was sitting next to this with similar specs, same large screen. Which is very cheaply made, for this price range. So let's hope the Windows 10 updates don't mess anything up on this one.Like it does with so many other laptop brands today. If so, I'll just go back to my old one and spend about 250$ to get the keyboard replaced. And keep Windows 8.1. Here's hoping.

Very nice unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop on Nov 26, 2015. I am highly pleased with its performance. I will list below some of the things that stand out for me. Pros: Nice large screen, can open multiple windows at the same time. Keyboard is accurate and responsive. Touchpad is different but easy to use. Speakers are located on top of unit instead of bottom. 3 USB ports. Thin and lightweight (I take it to work daily). Pre-installed Windows 10. Does not overheat & quiet fan. Decently long battery life. Can easily handle multitasking. Lots of storage. Easy setup. Nicely assorted hotkeys/function keys. Number keypad. Cons: (only 3) Accidently open CD slot often due to its location. USB ports on left side are too close together, could not insert 2 flashdrives at the same time. Lid/screen difficult to open as there is no lip or anything to grasp. I have read that the touchpad is too sensitive. In my experience, it requires a firmer tap than I like. I wish there was a way to adjust touch sensitivity so that it would recognize a lighter touch. This is a lot of computer for a low price. I would definitely recommend to those looking for a basic computer. (Can handle some heavier applications) I have used it daily for 8 hrs plus and have had no problems with overheating, as there have been issues in the past with HP fans. Some things have changed, some things are new. Must be willing to adapt and move forward to enjoy it. Cudos HP! I am very happy.

Great, fast laptop with large screen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want a big screen this works. I wanted a 15 inch but now that I got this I like it a lot. It is replacing my old desktop and my small google chrome will be my daily travel computer, so this is perfect. Really fast and great quality. Solid machine.

Good mid-range laptop with a few flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GOOD: Windows 10 and hardware is super-fast, i5 runs cool and QUIET, in fact it's silent when not under heavy load. 6gb RAM and USB 3.0 are nice... FAIR: screen resolution is non-HD, Intel 5500 graphics are middling at-best (fine for anything but gaming), when closed the top "lid" is flimsy if you set things on it. BAD: the network card in this machine is atrocious, max speed is N150 and horribly outdated. Easy to replace the card with a little research, I'm doing AC800 and N300 after investing another $40 in an Intel 7265 NIC

Super Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a Acer notebook and wanted something bigger. I went to Best Buy to buy a different computer and talked to a sales person and told him what I was looking for and this laptop gave me more options than the one I was looking at and was almost the same price. Since I have gotten it home it has done everything I wanted. Super fast processing plus a 17.3 screen and can play dvd's. I watch a movie the other night on it. The battery keeps a great charge. Around 5 hours. GREAT BUY !!!!
