This beauty beats every other laptop hands down in speed, performance, compatibility, power, beauty, usability, touch, tent modes, brightness, east of use and everything you want in a laptop. I love this baby every time I work on it.

I loved everything about this laptop except it turned out to be quite warm that I worried that it would get really hot after I'd used it awhile. I ended up returning it and getting something else instead. But the design is just gorgeous and the 2-in-1 functionality is great. Touchscreen was very responsive and I love the keyboard design.

Was looking for a good light-weight laptop with touch screen capabilities for my daughter who will be a freshman this year. The choice came down to either this or the Dell XPS and decided on going with the HP Spectre mainly due to the following considerations (things might have changed since when we bought it) -
1. HP Spectre offered a full HD (1920x1080) with i7 processor where as we had to go to UHD resolution with Dell XPS to get the i7 processor.
2. The HP was considerably less expensive (~300+$)
3. The HP had more USB ports for peripherals
4. This could be personal preference but we felt that the Spectre was the better looking of the two (really liked the smooth aluminum finish).
The only con I can think of (so far, after minimal usage) is that the touch pad is too big and I have had some trouble with tracking / clicking.
You really cant go wrong with this if you are looking for something for a college student...

If you're in the market for a powerfull and affordable ultrabook with great form factor. Get the Spectre.
It is I light, great looking, and one of the few ultrabook left with an i7 processor. Plenty of power to do mostly anything, perhaps only short of heavy duty gaming or graphics editing.
The battery will last 8-9 hours under normal usage. Setomes even longer.
HP did a decent job at keeping bloatware to a minimum. But the fact that there is still some useless preinstalled garbage is the reason it does not get 5 stars.
I would say this machine compares to the macbook pro with retina display without the premium price tag.

Love how thin it is. Love that it has 3 3.0 USB ports. Expected it to me a little faster with the i7 processor. Have had a few "normal" snafus that seems inherent in Windows. Took a while to get used to Windows 8.1, but looking forward to Windows 10. Screen is very bright. Battery will not as long with screen in brightest mode and with background apps running, but still seems to last a good long time. Love the protective sleeve that comes with it, although not the easiest to slip the laptop into. Beautiful machine. Had to get help to get rid of the McAfee Security software and just use Windows Defender. Have had trouble playing some MP4 files, but I think that is a Windows issue. Other than that, love how it looks and feels. Have to be careful when typing because the touchpad is so big. Easy to make your cursor jump if you are not careful. I would buy it again though.

Getting an i7, 8gb hard drive, 256 gb SSD for 999 was awesome. I used the student discount. The first one that I bought had an error message that the fan was not working properly, so I replaced that one. The second one also shows the same message, but now I just ignore it. Seems like a common problem.
The pros: Sleek, looks good, like the keyboard travel, big trackpad, convertible, and active digitizer.
The cons: The brushed aluminum lid and bottom on every store model had scratches. So the body gets scratches really easily, so I just put silver carbon fiber vinyl sticker covering on myself. The only other downside I've seen is that the power button (I understand why it's there) is in a really inconvenient place. When I pass my laptop to my classmates, pick up my laptop, or shift my laptop on my lap, I turn off my laptop, accidentally. Sometimes gets annoying.

Very light weight and easy to use 2-1. This is my first 2-1 and I don't see myself going back. Two things I don't like about it is the mouse pad is way to big and there is no place to put CD to down load them if you wanted to for you I-Tunes or what ever music app you have. Other then that very nice 2-1 !

Beautiful computer with fast boot time

This is my first computer with a SSD and my first computer with a touch screen. I love how fast it boots and runs. From the time I press the power button till the time it connects to my mobile broadband and is ready to use is about 10 seconds, similar to my tablet. Battery life is very good. I am still getting used to operating Windows 8.1 on a touch screen, but I like it a lot. I have stopped carrying a mouse because it is just as easy to use it in tablet mode using the touch screen. I considered the Surface Pro 3, but I like having the built-in back-lit keyboard, more USB ports and a little larger screen. It's a sharp looking computer too. Its display is crisp and clear. It feels solid and durable. The keyboard and track pad work fine. I have been using my Spectre x360 for about a month and I love it. I can't think of anything to complain about.

After a few weeks of usage, my overall impression is that this makes a solid portable laptop for jumping to different med school classes. I feel safe that the metal construction can take a beating from transporting in bags and plopping on desks.
Now I dropped a star because in tablet mode, this feels large and clunky. It's definitely too heavy to be holding in one hand for a prolonged period. I tried using it on the table with a stylus/pen and it worked decently, but the longer screen orientation was difficult to work around.
I can't wait to see windows 10 on this machine!
and oh yeah, battery life kicks butt! I averaged ~10 hours with normal use and with light gaming ~6

This HP lap top is extremely fast and light. After several weeks of ownership I have had no problems. Battery life is also excellent. My only disappointment is in loaded software for video. My last HP lap top came loaded with several formats of video. I had to purchase apps to watch old video formats.

Initially there was an issue with the mouse pad not working correctly. It jumped around, disappeared, or wouldn't scroll. The Geek Squad was able to resolve it. Very convenient to have the mouse pad and the touch screen. The Spectre is a great little computer, fast, and easy to operate.

I love the touchscreen. It makes scrolling easier. However, I do have problems with websites and popup views or "quick views" not working. Another thing is the screen is soo small. Too small. I wish I hadn't been bedazzled by the fancy options and picked a laptop with a bigger screen. The plus to a small laptop is it is lighter than larger ones. I guess I would say this is a fast computer. Geek squad told me it was. You can also turn the laptop sideways - yes so the screen is long and the keypad is on the other side - open like a book. For some websites, I've found that that is helpful. I use it for fun now. But when I bought it, it was originally for work which was very difficult for me to do due to the size of a smaller screen. For a student, I think it would be a good computer. It's not cheap either. Maybe for middle school? But they have ipads these days so it seems cost prohibitive.

My daughter selected this computer to take with her to college and she says it has worked out great for her. It's light enough to carry around and fast. She uses it for taking notes, writing papers, online class work, and research.

I have owned two HP laptops before this Spectre, and although it has taken some time to get acclimated to the touchscreen/software, I have to say I am completely enamored with its speed, versatility, organizational logistics and overall aesthetic. Likewise, the printer is stupendous. Thanks HP.

This is a great laptop - it is a little on the pricey end, but the hardware and build justify the cost. This computer is really light weight, solidly built with a beautiful screen. The spacing and travel of the keys are just right and the touch pad is not too bad - the right click/left click blend together a little, but I use an external mouse most of the time, so that isn't an issue.
The screen is great - the only issue is that the Windows scaling has some issues and some programs don't display as well as they should. I am hoping WIndows 10 resolves this.
I do highly suggest getting a Squaretrade warranty on this item. It covers manufacturers defect as well as damage and includes a free battery replacement in case the built in battery ever begins to develop a memory.
Other than that, I would have no hesitation in recommending this laptop to anyone looking for something in this class. I won'd be in the market for a new laptop any time in the near future!

Extremely easy to set up. My previous laptop had crashed a few days earlier but fortunately I had most of my files backed up on an external harddrive and my iTunes music was in the Cloud. Was able to go through the setup, install Office 365 and anti-virus software, and restore access to everything I needed/wanted including my iTunes music in less than an hour. The computer is pleasure to use - large touchpad and the manual volume control are especially convenient. Very light (3.3 lbs) and good battery life.

My fiance and I were both looking for a new laptop. He had traditionally gone the apple route while I had always had a PC in the past and we could not decide which would be the best this time around. After reviewing several models of both, we ended buying two of these. We love the i7 core processor as start up time takes about 10 seconds. There are some really cool features that windows allows with dual screen modes. And who doesn't love the touch screen (something that apple laptops still do not have!). Our only complaints would be that the tablet versions of programs "charms" do not operate near as well as the desktop version. But hopefully part of this will be fixed with the new windows and if not, you can always just start programs on the desktop versus on the windows start screen page. Bottom line I would definitely recommend this computer.
