Q: is the SD card inserted fully in the SDHC slot? or it is half projected outside ?
A: The SD card inserts almost perfectly flush...but leaves a sliver of the SD card beyond the edge of the laptop to be able to easily pop it back out. It is a Great Laptop! I love the SSD, boot up time in 3-5 seconds! And it looks and feels premium....it is premium! HP and Microsoft did their homework for this laptop!
Q: What bloatware comes with this?
A: The HP 13-4003dx includes Netflix, CyberLink Power Media Player, CyberLink YouCam, HP Connected Photo, HP Connected Music, Dragon Assistant, Skype, HP Connected Drive, HP Support Assistant, Getting Started with Windows 8, HP Recovery Manager, HP ePrint, and McAfee.
Q: How Well is Handwriting Supported?
A: I personally haven't yet purchased a stylus for my Spectre x360 (great laptop so far!), but Lisa from Mobile Tech Review did a pretty thorough stylus demonstration in her video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PMPjxQly1s.
Q: Is the Wireless really only AC? I've seen conflicting information on whether it supports N, etc.
A: The Intel AC 7265 wifi adapter in the Spectre X360 is fully backwards compatible with all the old wifi network types, NOT just AC. It will connect to B, G and N networks, both 2.4 and 5ghz, without problem.
Q: How is the sturdiness and build quality of the hinge? How does it compare to other computers?
A: The hinges in this computer are really solid! There is nothing flimsy about this machine. In comparison, the Lenovo's Yogas do seem less sturdily manufactured.
Q: If the thing is off and charging, should I unplug immediately when it reaches 100%?
A: Best practice for most laptops is only plug them in to recharge, unless the system has some kind of battery setting that keeps the power cycling when charged at 100% and plugged in. After looking into our HP Spectre x360, I didn't see any advanced power options that would keep the battery fresh while plugged in for long periods of time. Therefore I would recommend you keep it unplugged until it reaches about 25%, then plug it in until it recharges, then unplug it again. Here is a quick article on best battery practices from Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/taking-care-of-your-laptop-battery Cheers!
Q: How much free RAM as shipped?
A: I bought the 256 gb model and found I have a lot of free space with all of my apps loaded on it. I also debated getting the larger drive but didn't think the extra cost was worth it. I can always replace my drive with a larger one later if I need more space and as larger drives get cheaper. If you need to store a significant amount of large files like uncompressed video, audio and photos. Keep in mind you can always use one of the large size usb drives as additional storage
Q: which is better for the battery, put it in sleep mode after use or shut down every time?
A: It really shouldn't matter too much. Modern batteries can handle more off and on or charging than older ones but all batteries have a useable life in regards to how long they can charge and discharge. The computer starts up so fast I just shut mine down every time, 4 seconds is short enough for me to wait to start up. However for the sake of keeping apps open and ready to go leaving it in sleep is perfectly fine, or you can choose hybrid sleep (a state between sleep and hibernate) if you want more power savings.
