Customers are delighted by the Spectre x360's lightweight design, long battery life, and responsive keyboard. Many appreciate its portability and compact size, finding it ideal for travel and everyday use. However, some users noted that the device can get warm under heavy use and has a limited number of ports. The fan noise was also mentioned as a minor drawback by a few customers.

Wow, this thing is beautiful, powerful and was thoughtfully designed. I'm impressed. This 13 inch, full HD unit is the HP Spectre x360 2-in-1, under the hood is Intel's new Kaby Lake, 7th generation i7-7500u Core processor running at 2.7GHz. It's 8 GB of ram and 256GB Solid State Drive runs Windows 10 flawlessly.
There is really so much to appreciate about this unit. It' size and form factor is adaptable to many uses. From standard laptop use, to tablet, tent or display. This particular unit is packaged with Bang & Olufsen speakers, and I have to say they're amazing. The base is rich while the highs are very crisp, without sounding tinny as so many laptops do. I can't believe how thin and light weight this unit is. It measures a 13.8mm profile and comes in at just under 3 lbs, at 2.85 lbs. As I type this review, I am again reminded, what did we do before back-lit keyboards?? This compact keyboard has a layout, that is easy to adapt to, it's spacing is a bit stretched and it lacks a number pad.
A feature I have only used on this device is Windows Hello, this feature uses the Infrared webcam to recognize your face and log you in automatically. It actually works really well.
I love that this unit comes with a protective leather-like pouch. This won't protect from falls as it is absent of shock absorbing material, but will protect its sleek metal finish from scratches when you slide it in your backpack or murse. Again the attention to detail on this unit is bar-none. It only has four ports, for connection. One is the headphone jack, one is a USB 3.0 Type-A, and two are USB 3.0 Type-C. You may have noticed there are no external dedicated display ports of any type. My only guess as to why they did this, is simply to make it even thinner then last years model. In some of my research, I have found that the USB Type-C supports charging, display support, and of course lighting fast data transfer. I have never played with that type of display port, but I think all you need is an adapter. So all in all this unit the HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 12-w013dx is an excellent tool to have in your bag, to use for entertainment, to publish a blog, to edit photos, or just to check email and browse the web in your local coffee shop. The following will be it's specifications, pros list, cons list, and photos.

Can a computer be sensuous?

HP Spectre X360 13-w013dx
What am I reviewing? This is an HP 2-in-1 convertible 13” laptop/tablet I7-7500U (2.7GHz) Processor; 256Gb Solid State Drive; 8MB SDRAM; Win10; 13.3” HD LED display; Bang & Olufson speakers; HP IR Camera. MSRP $1149. 3.17lbs. 12” x 8.6 x 0.63 in.
Summary: Can you rationally describe a computer as elegant? sensuous? surely sensible is fair game? Everything about the HP Spectre X360 says it’s special. In the Windows world, this is probably the closest device to Apple’s own “Air”, with everything a PC owner would insist on having. The HP fully challenges everything: size, weight, features, speed, battery life, charging time all while transforming into a tablet when useful. Wireless connectivity was fast and reliable. I should emphasize the speed: if you haven’t used a flash hard drive yet, you’ll find yourself checking why nothing happened. Well it did, but you blinked and missed it. Very easy to like.
Details: This is one of those best-of-both worlds carry-around laptops. I mean, really, you hardly know you’re carrying it. At 3 pounds, you are carrying a tablet, no actually a full laptop, that you’ll no longer be able to claim is your alternative to a weight workout. And the hands-on experience is quite special. First I need to comment on the packaging. I love the trend to packaging premium electronics in a manner that acknowledges you’ve paid a premium price. It’s such a nice introduction to a product.
Inside the box is a petite and sleek, but solid, laptop that neatly and completely folds backwards into a tablet. The screen asks your permission to switch modes (shutting off the mechanical keyboard). I’m not sure it matters. The touch screen is always enabled. If I get frustrated scrolling a screen using the touch pad while in laptop configuration, I just reach over and touch and drag the screen directly. Sweet. The operating system is Windows 10, which makes my transition from a MAC pretty intuitive. More traditional PC users may be less impressed, but I like the redundancy, the ability to modify the amount of detail that MS buries me under, and the especially practical graphic representation of my work space.
Usability is very high. Th screen appears to be bright and contrasty, but mostly accurate. The keyboard has very good feel with helpful feedback and the touch pad sits where you need it and responds positively to presses. I’m not a fan of most PC touch pads, often stopping at the “mouse” aisle before heading home. This pad is better, but I don’t care ‘cause I can reach over and drag across the screen. Great. I thought the B&O speaker designation might be a gimmick. Whoa. As I’m in the process of laughing them off I actually turned on an Adele music file. Shut me up really quick. These are easily the best speakers in any laptop I’ve ever heard. I have no idea why or what these do so differently. No, they aren’t desktop speakers, but shockingly close.
Thank you HP for keeping the space wasting and mostly useless “free” software off the computer. It saved me the frustration of finding and removing it. Yep, this is a premium priced laptop. Remember, in the world of electronics you pay more to get less weight and size while maintaining features. And despite a small footprint, you still get a headphone/microphone shared port, 2 USB Type C ports, a USB port (which can charge attached devices), an infrared camera and lighting, and bluetooth and Wi-FI connectivity. There is little to complain about. I love maximum ports, and this laptop is limited to 3 ports, some of which do double duty. I prefer maximum screen size. But, in a debate with myself about what is more important to me, this time around I’m willing to sacrifice to make this computer easier to grab and run with. And it’s also a tablet. Nicely done HP.

I've been a Mac user for many, many years. My first computer - the one I bought all on my own - was an iMac. I've since been primarily working off of laptops and as such I've been indoctrinated into the MacBook/MacBook Pro lineup. The sleek design of the laptop and the nice layout of the keyboard is something that I've enjoyed for many years now. Mac and PC operating system differ so much that I really wasn't sure how I would like the HP Spectre. But, I was immediately taken with the brilliant design and lightweight nature of it.
I'm not stranger to PCs. Even though a Mac is my primary 'personal' computer, I use a Lenovo laptop for work and am very well-versed as a PC user. In addition to that, I've used several Windows 10 tablets so, the operating system wasn't a system shock to me either. I have actually been extremely impressed with Spectre as a working laptop. First of all, it has plenty of power to handle most tasks. It's got an Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM. My main use thus far has been standard office/email tasks. I haven't done much in the way of graphic intensive work, but I feel as though this computer could handle most anything I asked of it.
While I haven't done extensive benchmarking tests or comparisons, I did run a performance test using Novabench and the Spectre received a score of 854.This is higher than the all-time average score of 845. The 3-month average score was over 1000, but I feel as though this computer performs above average.
After giving my initial thoughts on the laptop, I'll now provide some thoughts on a few of the finer points of the Spectre.
Price - I feel that the almost $900 price point is comparable with other laptops in its class. It's a little higher than standard laptops, but it's such a solid piece of machinery that I think the price is justified.
Keyboard - I LOVE the keyboard. Maybe it's just how closely it resembles the Apple keyboards, but I really just love the way it feels when you type on it. There is a small click when your fingers dance across the keyboard, but nothing like a mechanical keyboard. It just has a nice soft feel to it and very good responsiveness.
Ease of Use - Set-up was very easy. I love the Hello feature that uses the computer's on-board camera to recognize your face to unlock it. It's a very cool feature. There aren't a whole lot of extra steps that have to be taken and set-up is completed within just a few minutes of unboxing the laptop.
Portability - The Spectre is indeed a mobile computer. The laptop is very lightweight and has a convertible feature complete with touchscreen. The touchscreen is very responsive and just as easy to use as my iPad as far as typing on the screen.
Battery - I've found that the battery life is very, very good. When I first took it out of the box, I didn't charge the laptop right away. I used it off and on for two days and then finally had to charge it when it dropped to 5% battery. I haven't used it for more than a couple hours at a time so the battery might drain faster if you are constatntly using it, but for the most part, the Spectre does a good job of sustaining its battery life.
CONCLUSIONS
The HP Spectre has a lot going for it. If you are looking to find a classy, higher end laptop with some pretty impressive specs, I would recommend checking it out. It's a pleasure to use and a very solid computer.

I'm very impressed with this laptop, although with some minor reservations
First thing to notice when unpacking is how well designed this is, and how well it looks.
It's very thin and very well designed. It appears to be thinner than last year's ('15) Spectre x360, at about 14 mm.
This is one of the first with a 7th generation Intel i7, Intel 620 series graphics, fast memory (1867 Mhz), and it truly can go all day without having to recharge.
Having used this for about a week, using email and busy web pages. averages about 8% battery usage. Battery life on this is the best so far on any laptop I used.
It has a very responsive touch screen, good feedback on keys and very wide glass trackpad. Folding hinges work very well. Screen remains in place while effortless to fold.
This laptop does away with most legacy ports: It has two Thunderbolt 3 ports (With USB-C connectors), one USB 3.0 and headphone, a power button and volume rocker, and that's it.
Unlike other convertible laptops, the bottom cover can be removed.
The charger is very compact, can be connected with either a power cable or directly to the outlet, and charges the laptop via an USB-C connector to either plug on the laptop.
The keys are full size, and like other HP laptops, it has full-size navigation keys to the left, so the keys are slightly off center so took me a little while to get used to it. Keys are backlit (Either on or off, no dimming).
On top of the screen, there's the standard camera and an infrared camera with lights for the Windows Hello login feature, which for me is working very well.
The screen is 1920x1080 (Standard HD) which is very easy to read indoors and outdoors (I used it in shaded areas), and the whole panel is covered in glass, which works very well. However, it's not a High DPI screen and its format is 16x9, although the frame of the laptop could fit a 16x10 screen which would've been far more useful for writing. This seems like a cost cutting decision in an otherwise excellent computer. Regardless of the resolution, the screen looks excellent.
Thunderbolt 3 (which are compatible and exceed the also new standard USB-C ports) can provide long term benefits. A single cable can connect two 4K monitors, USB devices, PCIe enclosures, storage arrays (for video editing), etc. In the short term, consider investing in a Thunderbolt 3 dock. If you want to use an external monitor while traveling, you'll also need an adapter. This is the same for other new computers with either USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 ports (Thunderbolt is much faster than USB. In this case the port is compatible with either system, and also provides video output power to external devices and power to the computer). It's truly an universal port, but in the meantime consider getting docks and/or adapters. Thankfully, this PC also has a standard USB 3 port, although unlike in previous years, it doesn't have a memory card reader.
The speakers (with 'Bang & Olufsen' labels) sound fine for a laptop. HP put some effort here since it has two speakers behind the keyboard and two down firing speakers on the side. They sound reasonably well, but still tinny. Fine for casual listening, although I do not find them remarkable.
It also comes with a 30-day trial version of McAfee, which I was able to uninstall without difficulty, Office 2016 in trial mode, and standard HP utilities. Note that firmware upgrades have to be done via the HP utility, not Windows Update, so keep the HP utilities around. The recovery partition takes about 10 Gb out of the SSD.
A fitting black leatherette envelope is also included, which is thin, provides some padding and looks good.
A sore point is that this comes with Windows 10 Home. The main issue with Windows home is that does not provide encryption (BitLocker), and would have to upgrade to Pro. I find this to be a major pain. While the hardware is excellent, requiring the user to purchase Windows 10 Pro on top is a hassle and additional expense, and overall does not provide with the premium experience that HP is selling with this laptop.
Overall the build quality is great. The body is a well crafted single piece of aluminum, it's very sturdy and light as thin as it gets with great battery life.
Geared hinges work great, for the very occasional use as a (3 pounds) tablet.

This is HP and my 3rd Spectre X360. The 1st version had 5th gen processor and did not have Bang & Olufsen audio and no M2 SSD, and I had tons of issues with my audio quality crackling and graphics card crashing despite updating to the latest driver. The 2nd version had 6th gen processor and although the body style was exactly the same, there were significant improvements. The 2nd version came with Bang & Olufsen audio software and M2 SSD. I was really happy with the laptop.
Now, this version tops it all. It has 7th generation processor. Although it has the same architecture as 6th generation, the battery receives 15% bump in capacity. Also, the new placement for speakers makes much more sense and provides better output as well. The design is similar to the 2nd version but is thinner but still feel very solid not fragile. I also had Lenovo Yoga Pro 3, and that laptop was very thin but felt fragile.
HP has definitely stepped it up. Spectre X360 has solid performance with premium design. I love how HP packaged this laptop as well. It’s elegance and the free included sleeve has improved as well. Instead of the neoprene sleeve like the 1st and 2nd version, this one comes with free synthetic leather sleeve.
The only thing that I wish will be changed in the future, is bloatware. Those of you that are savvy enough, can easily do clean install of Windows 10. I did this with my 2nd HP Spectre X360 and I was very happy afterwards. If you’re interested in how to do this, you can do it at your own risk by do a google search of windows 10 clean install.

So let me set the tone that when buying a computer it stresses me out more than car shopping. I'm committing to something that is going to carry personal information much like the vehicle that will hopefully keep me safe on the road.
I did not get this laptop with any hesitation because of it's sheer beauty, it is sleek, lightweight, awesome screen quality, vivid imagery when browsing, and to knock my socks off HP put Bang & Olufsen speakers. I'm usually prone to products from a different tree or fruit. There won't be any returning this juggernaut at all.
Two "wow" features for me are the facial recognition that reacts to me when I open the laptop and uses my face as a unlock feature, and of course the style and robust/crisp sound of the B&O speakers. Listening to Herb Alpert and Lady Gaga have turned my sound experience on it's head.
If you're looking for a laptop that is compact but doesn't forfeit any conveniences your desktop has then get this laptop. HP did well to create a "update & install" feature that guides me through how I should keep my computer updated which I like because I need to know how to keep my system running efficiently. Lastly, the computer came with this soft leather pouch that reminded me of a heritage leather sleeve which fits the laptop very snug and the charging wire is a mini USB charging port that is also as compact as the laptop itself. I wish I could have attached more pictures because I feel so proud to show this computer off at work. I'd recommend this laptop to literally anyone because of it's diverse functionality! Next up is adding the HP backpack and an external memory system so that I can maximize my use of memory on the laptop for all my pictures!

Best Windows laptop I've used, a great choice

The HP Spectre x360 is the best Windows laptop I’ve used. Make no mistake, I've been using a high end aluminum laptop that costs twice as much, and I feel like I've wasted money considering how nice this is, and at a decent price for what you get.
The product itself is very high quality – the finish is very attractive and sleek. I was surprised how slim the laptop is; it is on par with the other thin aluminum laptops that seem to dominate this market segment.
The 2 USB C ports (which the charger uses one of) plus the USB 3.0 port offer lots of connection options for external devices. The touchpad and nicely backlit keyboard were also of very high quality – the cursor didn’t jump around when using it, and the backlit keyboard is very nice to type on. The touchpad is smooth, and huge, but also very responsive. Although the backlit keyboard doesn’t include a number pad, it does include the home, page up, page down, end, and delete keys which was a nice compromise.
The Bang & Olufsen speaker system is excellent – it is equal to or better than the quality of my many high end Bluetooth speakers. The included software control panel offers easily customizable presets for tuning the sound as well.
Perhaps by far, the best aspect of the laptop is the 13” touchscreen. Unlike many touchscreen laptops, the picture quality was phenomenal – the other big competitor of this market segment doesn't offer a touchscreen. The touchscreen was not only crisp, but responsive – it felt intuitive to use the screen at times, more so than the trackpad, because it was simply designed well. In addition, the “full tablet” mode, when the screen rotates to turn into a tablet, worked flawlessly, with Windows 10 recognizing the shift and immediately transforming into the tablet UI. So, what I've been saying for years, is give me a tablet that is really a real laptop, not a snap in keyboard, and I'd be happy - well, HP, you gave me that. And it works better than I envisioned.
After using the laptop for hours of moderate/intense use, including updating, signing into the apps, testing out the email/web clients, etc. the battery held up well, only dropping about 20%. No excessive heat, so this is managed well; something often overlooked in the quest to make things thinner and faster.
Lastly, HP loaded the operating system with the perfect amount of extra software, unlike many companies that load the OS with “bloatware.” It felt like an almost vanilla install of Windows 10, plus a few extra utilities for managing the unique hardware components. Windows 10 was easily configured in a matter of minutes, with my mail, contacts, internet favorites, etc. transferring with ease. The built in app store made it easy to find additional software without having to search around on the internet.
It comes with a great leather type sleeve (not sure if real leather, or simply leatherette, either way it feels nice and solid) to keep it in, and that is a nice touch. Because this is small and easy to carry, it is also easy to drop, this case gives you a good way to keep a grip on it.
Another nice feature, is the unlock feature, simply by looking at the infrared integrated web camera. This hasn't been able to be fooled, despite many attempts, and is very fast to recognize you, if you are in fact the right person.
All things considered, it’s a wonderful laptop certainly worth the price. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any buyer, as the superior sound system and touchscreen are both extremely useful and intuitive. This is the answer, a laptop that becomes a tablet, but done very well, with the quality of a product you'd expect to spend 2x as much for.

I purchased this laptop after very careful consideration. I knew it had a few issues, in particular the battery. The screen brightness does ramp up around 80% but is dim below that. The battery did have a severe drain problem. I contacted HP and they are aware of the problem. They sent me a free shipping kit. I sent the laptop to them to fix the issue. After a few weeks their repair center manager contacted me and apologized for the delay. After returning the product to me (and a few firmware updates) it is working properly now. They extended my warranty an additional year for the problems I had with it. I rate it 4 stars because it is a beautiful machine after a few tweaks and HP has really stepped up their customer support. I would happily buy this model again. It is not perfect but when u look at the whole picture (great battery life NOW after repair, 4 speakers, solid machined aluminum, excellent hp support, great display, speedy) their are few laptops that can exceed it for the price. I have purchased 4 laptops in the past 3 years and this one i had less buyer's remorse than the others.. and that was with the battery problem.

I purchased this laptop a couple of days ago and so far I am blown away. I have been in the information technology field for about fifteen years and have used a variety of laptops from a variety of different manufactures. I can safely say that the HP Spectre x360 is the best laptop that I have ever used.
I will say that the runner up is the Macbook Pro that I worked with about three years ago and the Macbook (2015) that I was using for a bit. Both of those were beautiful machines, but I think the Spectre beats them both out in terms of build quality, looks, hardware and most of all, price. I actually purchased this laptop due to being disappeared in the reveal of the new Macbook Pros and found that this machine is not only a suitable replacement, but appears to be a superior machine.
PROS:
* This thing is slim and lightweight. It definitely lives up to the name of being ultra portable.
* The machine itself feels very sturdy. So when I am carrying it around or using it as a 'tablet', it doesn't feel awkward.
* The touch screen is very responsive.
* The audio on this laptop, given the size and weight, is excellent.
* The battery life appears to be amazing thus far.
* I'm not sure that a screen beyond HD makes much of a difference on 13" laptops. I do not notice much of a difference between the Spectre screen and the Macbook Pro/Retina. They are all very crisp and provide beautiful visuals.
* The specifications for this machine seem to be right up there with the best in class in terms of ultra portables in this price range. When you combine the specs with the beauty of the machine and the build quality, I believe that this is a winner and best ultra portable around this price point.
CONS:
* The track pad isn't the greatest, but it is fine. It can skip a little bit and isn't the most responsive track pad I have ever used.
This is not a con that I rightfully claim at this moment and I would like to qualify my statement with that. I used to love HP laptops 5-6 years ago, but went away from them because I had so many problems with them. The Spectre x360 is such an impressive machine I decided to give them another try. I have had zero problems during setup, with drivers, etc. I will be monitoring this review and if anything happens in terms of this machine having issues later on, I will update my review!
I would also like to state that I was also looking at the HP Spectre 13t, which was a very impressive machine. If you aren't interested in a touchscreen and like the black/gold color scheme more, that machine seems pretty awesome as well! In addition the associate that helped me at Best Buy was a great guy. He pointed out that ASUS just came out with the Q324 (I believe that is the model number). The ASUS has twice as much RAM and storage, while also featuring a fingerprint reader and a different set of ports. The ASUS was heavier/slightly bigger, leaned more toward USB-A in terms of ports and didn't seem to have quite the build quality as the HP. But if you are looking for a 2-in-1 ultraportable with unreal specs that seems to be another good option as well. :)

First of all I love this laptop. It is really dissapointing me that this has happened.
Pros:
Premium Build Quality - As good as MacBooks, it's all alumium making it solid and feels built to last a long time.
Super Fast - the combo of solid state drive, i5/i7 processor, and 8GB+ makes for a blazing fast computer.
Sleek Awesome Design - small side screen bezels and only about a half inch thick make it smaller and more portable than most laptops.
TWO Thunderbolt 3 ports - one of very few windows laptops with a thunderbolt 3 port and I think the only laptop under $1,500 that has 2 of Thunderbolt 3 ports. Therefore it can support super fast data transfers and support TWO 4k displays at 60hz. This is the feature that really won me over.
Good Display - It has a really good display. 1080p on 13 inch is pretty good. The color reproduction is pretty good too.
2 in 1 Tablet function: being my first laptop that folks back I was skeptical that pursuing keys on bottom would ruin the experience but I could not have been more wrong. The computer completely disables the keyboard and track pad when the display is folded all the way back. It makes a really great tablet! Having a laptop and tablet in 1 machine is amazing!
Cons
Track pad - the track pad is just the tiniest bit loose. So when moving finger on track pad (not clicking) then lifting finger you will hear a very faint click. I found its cause slight pressure on the track pad makes it go down like 1 millimeter then snaps back up against the track pad frame. Barely noticeable but still might be annoying to some people. Other wise track pad gestures work really good! It's not just my laptop either, Google "spectre x360 track pad" and you will see others reporting it.
Display - even though I said display is good, the 1 bad thing is that's a bit too dim. You need it all the way up to 85% brightness for the display to not look dark on a indoor lit up room. In other words don't expect it to be bright enough to use in the sun. But it looks good indoors at 85-90% brightness.
MAJOR FLAW
Battery drains 14-18% per DAY when the computer is turned OFF. This basically ruins half the purpose of a laptop if you can't take it some where with out losing any battery while it's turned off in transportation. Mine isnot just a defective unit, this is a major flaw in all of them. There is a discussion thread on HP Support forums with over 220 replies of people reporting the same problem. The computer has been out for close to 3 months now and HP still refuses to admit it's a known problem with this model. To read more about this issue just Google "spectre x360 battery drain turned off" and you will see lots of reports of this major problem.
Luckily I am still in my return period, so if HP has not pushed a software update to fix it before my return period is up in about 2 weeks then sadly I am going to return this computer. If you can't handle a laptop losing basically 1/5 of its battery per day when turned OFF then do not get this laptop. If you don't mind that, then by all means get this laptop it's amazing! Especially for this price!

Unfortunately, I'm still using my 2008 Dell laptop because the HP Spectre is not very easy to use. The set up for this computer was confusing with many options that were just trying to force a purchase. I skipped over several of these items because I did not know what they were. When I went to my local Best Buy to ask for assistance with this from the Geek Squad, they provided very little help. I do not find Windows 10 to be intuitive. I'm constantly trying to find out how to do simple tasks. I am an average tech user with an IPad, smart phone, and digital scanner.
Having purchased this laptop over two months ago, it's quite disappointing that I have so little time spent using it. It seems like I will need to find a local computer course prior to comfortably changing over from Windows 7. I don't care for the format options regarding programs and document accessibility. Overall, I wish I'd spent the extra money to buy a Mac.
The laptop itself is thin, light and stylish. This model did not come with a stylus. The processor works very quickly but I can't comment on the memory since I have very little data on this machine at this time. The graphics and sound are excellent! Battery lifespan is superb and I have rarely needed to charge it even after using Pandora radio for most of the day. I do miss the CD/DVD player.
The constant changing of wallpaper photos is annoying at start up. If I answer yes that I like a picture, it should stay there. The next time I restart the computer there's a different picture with the same question.

I have now had the computer for about a month and so far I generally have had a positive impression of it. I like the weight, it is generally fast, and has a sleek design. I do have a few issues with it though not major but I think they are worth pointing out. May be I have not optimized it but I have started to notice some lag I generally do data analysis and I have not put the computer through the heavy lifting but there is already noticeable lag, the keys are very had to see outside so if you do not know where they are located it is pain, the color is a magnet for finger prints, and I noticed that the coating on the keys are starting to peel.

Awesome two in one pc. with the solid state drive everything is instant. Even powering on is super quick. Battery life is decent. Very light and compact, easy to use while in bed or lounging in tablet mode.

Ultra lightweight and thin. Plenty of speed and power. Ample battery life. Works great as a tablet part-time. The Bang & Olufsen speakers are pretty great as well.
