First of all you love the Star Wars franchise or you wouldn't be reading this review. That said, you'll love the thorough Star Wars embellishments inside and out. The Achilles heel is the sluggish hard drive. The boot time is ridiculous. I installed a 960 GB SSD and a matched pair of 1 X 8 GB memory modules. Amazing difference! Super fast boot (under 14 seconds) and the 16 GB of memory will be great even though it's overkill for my game. Can you buy a better, faster machine for the money? You bet but not one that looks so cool. I hope you buy one and go the distance with the SSD upgrade. The memory boost is just fun excess.

I love love love this laptop! It's the best gift I've ever received. As a huge Star Wars fan and someone who needs a fast computer -- this has it all. All the little details are amazing from the design to the sights and sounds that were added in to make special.

    This is a Great Laptop.

Yesterday, after receiving my tax return, I irresponsibly went to Best Buy to look at gadgets instead of waiting to find something worth-while to spend it on. As a Star Wars fan, this computer immediately caught my eye. What held my attention though, was the specs. This product is a HUGE improvement over my very tough and faithful HP Notebook 2000 from around 2009. Now, there are things about this laptop that I just have to get used to (i.e. the mouse pad, new OS) and seemingly some components were sacrificed for cost (i.e. cheap disc tray, very thin screen/lid), but overall I love this product.

Decent laptop for the price, but be aware...

I purchased this laptop because it was cool looking and for the price the configuration is pretty good (i.e. RAM, Video Card, etc.). I have since returned the laptop and got my money back. Here is why... - The hard drive while large in capacity is VERY slow to boot up and is equally slow at performing basic tasks - There is no recovery CD, Driver CD (or any CD for that matter) that comes with this laptop. The hard drive is partitioned with a recovery program to reset the PC or take it back to factory settings. However, if the hard drive crashes or you want to put a new hard drive in (say an SSD), then you are screwed. I contacted both Best Buy and HP and was basically told to pound sand. HP does have an option to purchase (for $25.00 plus shipping) a recovery CD/DVD, but they didn't have this model available for some reason, so HP sent me back to Best Buy :-( The Best Buy geek squad did have an option to possibly ghost the factory image to a CD/DVD, but they were not 100% sure about that - The NVIDA 2GB graphics card was in this laptop, but for some reason, Windows 10 was using the Intel graphics card on the system board so even though the NVIDA control panel was installed, the computer would only run using the Intel card so it was eating up 4GB of the 8GB RAM as graphics RAM. Geek Squad thought that the NVIDA card might "kick in" when the computer was tasked hard, but I couldn't get it to switch and they didn't have the time to look at it while I was right there, so this never was resolved - There is no mouse pad nor mouse that comes with the laptop. While this is not a huge deal, I couldn't even find a Star Wars mouse to purchase #either from Best Buy or HP# which matches the mouse shown in the description. You can buy the Star Wars sleeve for 40 bucks, but no mouse or pad that I could find The round around that I got was so bad that I decided to just return the laptop and live to fight another day. Its too bad because it was very cool looking.

I got this because I needed a regular laptop with a DVD drive that I could use primarily to write on and use internet. It's a good size (I used to have a 17in laptop that was too big for my lap, but great on a desk) to fit in my lap so I can work in bed or on the go, plus has a built-in DVD drive, runs fast, good size HD, and has several USB ports. I haven't done any gaming on it or anything that would really push it yet but when I watch videos on it, they look fantastic. I've also run several programs at once without performance issues. I love the Star Wars look, the added sound effects, and also that the keys are backlit with red (back light can be turned off and on with a key press). Very stylish and unique.

This Star Wars laptop is the one of the most amazing pieces I have added to my collection. I ordered the laptop online as a pre-order when it was first announced and it just arrived today. The shipping was fast and the care in the protection of the laptop was great; no damage during transport. I refuse to open the box as this will be a collectors item for me. Thank you Best Buy!!!

Battery lasts only 30 minutes when playing games which is what it is meant to be able to do as a gaming computer as advertised. Star Wars theme and content is super cool though.

    A $879 mistake

I have had a lot of trouble with this comp. battery monitor not working properly. 3 hiours with tech support fixed it. oops 3 days later and it is not fixed. restarts by itself while sleeping 3 or 4 times a day. in the event viewer there were some 30 critical errors over past 7 days and if yiou can believe this there were 89000+ errors over the last 7 days. tech support started a process and got one update in before they said the internet was too slow for them too finish. 5 hours with them on this one. Computer got a bit better now only restarts every other day. Tech support said send it in for repair and then they won't ship the return box out of the country. then they said they woiuld escalate it and I would get a call wihtin 24- 48 hrs. 4 days later no call back.. pretty disgusted with HP. I swore on my last HP I would never buy another HP. I didn't listen.

I actually bought this computer from another vendor--sorry Best Buy! I love this thing! I'm a huge Star Wars fan and love Vader. If you can't tell, Vader is right on the front cover. Wish they would have added his breathing as a sound option. Oh well. This is packed with so much Star Wars stuff that they really did think of everything and paid attention to details as last reviewer said. The packaging itself is a collectors item, both the box and the cushions which are shaped for the Star Wars universe. The design on the inside part of the PC is gorgeous. Ominous red backlighting is uber cool. There are zillions of cool Star Wars photos included. Anyways, I love it and highly recommend for any fan. May the force be with you!!!!

    A great beginner laptop

I am a gamer and a student. I purchased this laptop for the student half of me and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The exterior and Star Wars features are SO COOL. Even the packing material is Star Wars themed! I wanted to love this laptop so much. Unfortunately, when I turned the laptop on I was incredibly disappointed by 2 things that I just couldn't get over. The screen was dull and the image looked dingy. Colors weren't showing up right. Coming from laptop with a more high end screen... this was really disappointing. Considering I was going to be using it for school and would need to use it for long periods of time, this just wasn't acceptable. The other disappointment I had was the speakers. The speakers are AWFUL. They are just your basic stereo speakers. No subwoofer. So the sound was horrifically tinny. Also please beware of 5400 RPM hard drives. If you want a fast zippy experience you need a 7200 RPM hard drive or an SSD. Don't settle for a 5400 RPM! I wanted to love this laptop but I had to take it back to the store. I would recommend it though for people whose standards aren't quite as high as mine.

    Graphics driver continuously crashing!

I was truly excited about getting this computer and really wanted to like it as it had the Optical drive (harder to find included), 8 GB Memory, 1 T Storage, Intel Core i7 processor, etc. But the graphics driver is continuously crashing and recovering when loading pages online and when playing Zynga games,, and I mean continuously as many as 10 times in a minute. Computer also freezes when I right click on desktop icons. I can't get the numlock to stay locked despite trying several online solutions. Only had it 10 days and Seriously thinking of returning and getting a Toshiba, my daughters first recommendation. Very sad.

    Not For Me

I purchased this thinking this was going to be a muscle car when in fact after doing my research this is a rice burner. Per the benchmark the I7 and I5 versions are extremely close when it comes to power. I was really disappointed to learn the the I7 was a dual core 2.5Ghz come on this is Star Wars we should be hitting Hyperspace instead of sub-light speed. For the average user this may work and the theme is really cool but for me as a gamer I need a little more beef. I am really disappointed in HP for doing this and not giving us a heaver hitter to go with. I guess I will wipe the drool off my mouth and return this. 2 Stars for the theme its to cool. I guess this is a my bad for not researching this more before I buy because its Star Wars and looks awesome.

    Maybe for the casual user

My past laptops battery gave out a few months back ($250 replacement), and instead of purchasing a new battery I decided to go ahead and buy a new laptop as I will be overseas. Specs look above average for a laptop. The graphics card sold me honestly, which similar priced laptops either didnt have or downgraded to an i5 processor. The laptop in general is pretty slow for all programs I run (I put the blame on windows 10 requiring so much power to run) but it just isn't sufficient for my needs, even if they are higher than most people. I use the laptop to run design programs (such as revit, rhino, 3ds max, ies....) but still doesnt justify a new laptop freezing the 1st day. Anyways I will be overseas next several months and cant return so Im stuck suffering. Its possible the computer will work well for the average user, but I expected more from it.

I've gone through 2 of these Star Wars Laptops in a couple months. So many problems, but, the biggest is the CRASHING! Now, a new laptop should NOT be crashing. Such a cool looking laptop, but, I want a normal HP, and maybe I won't have these problems. :-(

( This review is not proven by expert, all of it is just my thinking. If u guys know the solution of those problem, plz let me know. I am working for small computer company and learning about computer now) When I looked at his laptop at the first time, I satisfied CPU, graphic card and memory with affordable price( Also, I am big fan of star wars) Everybody said I can switch my graphic card and does not have problems in the reviews, so I bought this laptop However, I found so many problems The first problem is that this laptop is not optimized well. The reason of slow booting speed is from above problem. For example, If I try to open Microsoft Studio for programming, this computer usually lag for doing that process because it takes more time to pull out the date from its hardware. Also, the power is not stabilized. I think HP try to reduce weight the power, so HP downsize their power and charger, but it brings unstabilized power. It cannot bring enough power to operate every functions in the computer The second problem is that I never switch Nvidia graphic card to play the high specifications computer game. I mean I cannot use Nvidia graphic card completely. I can use this graphic card to play computer game and watch video, but it is operating like half of it. I did uninstall the basic graphic driver, update the Nvidia graphic, disable the basic graphic driver in BIOS mode and window mode, and go to control panel in Nvidia graphic and change setting at 3D setting. I also went to best buy and get some help from other people, but they don't know reasons. If people want to buy gaming computer and better one with same price, I want to recommend them buy another one
