I would recommend this laptop because if you are going to high school this is the perfect typing device. You have a nice screen resolution and a nice Windows 8.1 layout. So if your getting this for your student I would get this.

I bought this laptop to use only for work> It has surpassed the reviews that I read. The battery has lasted at least 7 hrs without needing to be recharged. It is light enough to carry and not large or bulky. I LOVE IT

VERY light and attractive looking. Has ports for flash drives and printers to connect. Not a lot of hard drive space and not very speedy. But for it's price, you get the windows operating system and a real laptop rather than just a browser.

I haven't had much opportunity to use my HP Stream yet, but it appears to fit my needs well. I bought it so I would have a tablet-sized laptop for travel. It's very lightweight and easy to manage and carry with me. My biggest issue, so far, is accidental zooming of the screen. This is related to the touch pad and I'm hoping I'll adapt to it soon. Access to the additional software and cloud storage were easy to manage. For the price, this is definitely a good alternative to a tablet or laptop. Because I haven't used it long enough to gauge all of its attributes, I am giving it 4 stars.

Very basic, but does the job. Light weight, compact and easy to use. I can stream from my Netflix app, use Word 2013, Skype and other apps. You need to store your documents, pictures and other info on a flash drive this system doesn't have much storage space. Other than that it's fast and worth it for the price.

After comparing tons of different computers & tablets, I decided on this one. I'm a student & work a lot so I was looking for something that I could cart around to my classes (& would fit on my desk during lecture), use easily at home (without heating up my legs), & could pull out at work during downtime (& would fit beside my work computers) that was user-friendly at all three places without having to also carry around a mouse or little keyboard. I've had my old computer since 2009 so that goes to show you how seriously I take my computer-purchasing (very). Also, I don't like to waste money on many frou-frou things that I don't really need & this met my specifications. I was not crazy about the blue (it's what was in stock & I didn't want to wait for the black to come in), but it's growing on me & for $200 it's fine. I already had an external hard drive, so it not having a large memory was a non-issue for me. It doesn't have a CD/DVD slot, so I also bought the "LG - Ultra Slim 8x Max. DVD Write Speed External USB DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Black". It's been almost two months & I still really like it. The only thing that kind of bugged me was the sensitive mouse, but I've gotten used to it for the most part.

For 200 dollars I wasn't expecting much. But I love it. It feels great, types we'll, and is immensely convenient. Not much storage but I use it for taking to class with me and it's perfect. I also took it on a seven hour train ride and was so happy I did. Between the good battery life and the small size it was perfect. No I don't play games on it or really much besides writing and the odd movie here or there but for my needs it was a great buy.

This computer is compact, lightweight and, although it's short on memory, it's adequate for school work, especially if one gets a backup drive. The one notable problem with this machine is its touch pad which is sometimes overly sensitive to touch and sometimes, not at all, and has only one area, its lower left portion, that responds reliably. Also, installations have started and run without requests for confirmations or permissions or recourse to cancellations, after which I have had to go into my hard drive to locate and manually uninstall. I don't know if this problem is Windows or HP related, but I bought this laptop on a very tight budget and those are minor concerns as, overall, this laptop is doing well in helping me keep up with and getting assignments completed.

I needed a basic laptop for typing up documents, simple Web browsing, some Netflix, and job hunting. This little laptop took a bit of time to get used to since I'm used to larger ones but once my hands adjusted to the smaller size, I love it! It's easy to carry with me, does the trick for basic tasks, and has yet to give me any issues. Not sure I'd recommend it for any hard core gamers, photoshop users, etc...but for basic tasks it's worth the price!

We needed a laptop that was small enough so that my son could take it easily to class and carry it in his backpack. He is very pleased -- it is fast, has good speakers, and attractive, too. It has enough power for him to play the games he wants to play (though I believe it is not a heavy-duty gamer's computer). Great price. So far, so good. No complaints.

I bought this notebook for my daughter, who is 13. I think it was the perfect purchase for her and what she wants to use a notebook for. She basically uses the notebook for internet browsing and watching youtube. She also uses the notebook for school writing projects. This notebook does not have a dvd player or anything like that...it is really just for working on papers and browsing. If you want to store memory , I would suggest getting an external drive. While I don't suggest using this particular notebook for high intensity projects and gaming, I think it would make a computer for younger teenagers who just want to browse the net, watch videos on Youtube and to do school projects. Plus ...the price is right.

Great little computer...got all the features I wanted for an awesome price plus the extra rewards that came when I registered my computer on the Microsoft website...only negative os it does not have a built in cd drive...but i guess that would make it a laptop rathet than a netbook...you can always get a separat USB CD drive...but then again who uses CDs anymore? Got a flash drive you're all set but overall LOTS OF PERKS TO GO WITH THE PORTABILITY!!!!

Bought this for my daughter (9 yrs) . . . it's not the most powerful machine ever, of course, and can run a bit slow, but it has everything she needs for school and some private use - she is over the moon with her own laptop, now we can do (home)work together in the evenings and she doesn't need to borrow my laptop!

Our family has two of these laptops - one in this size, and one in the larger size.
They're both great for what we need them for - light web browsing and paper writing. Start-up time is awesome, but they both need to be restarted every few days to keep the touchpads reactive.
As long as you're not looking for lots of power, space, or memory, and you don't mind keeping yourself 5o 2-3 programs at the same time, this is a great computer, especially for the price.

I use the HP Stream for travel. It's very light and portable yet powerful enough to do everything I need to. Only one problem is that I cannot upgrade to Windows 10 because I do not have enough space on the hard drive. It might be because I have the full Office 2010 suite installed. I would rather have Office than Win 10 but I still shouldn't have to choose.

It was bought for (college) schoolwork. It fits easily inside backpacks and some oversized purses. Storage is low/small, so make sure before leaving the store to get some external storage, and more than one. Documents saved on a flash/4G, and movies, videos, music, pictures saved on maybe a flash/128G, or something else you want, but get something.

I LOVE this laptop. The sales rep was trying so hard to shy me away from it, but I'm so glad I went with my gut (after pages and pages of reviews). I'm a college student so all I really need a laptop for is the Internet and simple Word programs. I have no emphasis on any sort of graphic designing (in school or out) so I don't need any advanced programs that take up a bunch of storage space - which is the only "problem" with this laptop. It is only 2GB, which can fill up very fast depending on what programs you install, but like I mentioned, if you don't need much, you'll be fine! I'll save my money now and get something bigger and pricier when I actually need it, have time to use it, and can afford it LOL.
