Really good for a first time buyer. Really cool features.

Pros:
Strong gaming performance at 1080p; can run modern titles smoothly (e.g. ~100 FPS in Doom, ~90 FPS in Cyberpunk)
Sleek, minimalist design (unlike flashier gaming laptops)
144 Hz IPS display looks good and smooth for action.
Good value: high-end specs (Ryzen 7, RTX 4050) at a mid-range price
Quiet during everyday use (fans almost silent when idle)
bestbuy.com
Cons:
Battery life is short (~2–5 hours); need to stay plugged in for gaming
Only 512 GB SSD – may need to upgrade for many big games
Fans get loud under heavy load (common in gaming laptops)
No high-end display features (no HDR/G-Sync).
In summary, the HP Victus 15.6″ (Ryzen 7 7445HS, RTX 4050) offers excellent value for mid-tier gaming. It’s ideal for gamers on a budget who want smooth 1080p performance without the look of typical gaming laptops. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a solid gaming notebook at this price point – just keep a charger handy. I plan to update this review after a year of use to report on long-term performance and reliability. Based on what I’ve seen so far and the consensus of other reviewers, I expect it will hold up well for my needs.

The RAM is upgradeable to 64 Gigabytes of DDR5-5600, which I personally decided to install the Corsair Vengeance series, with many sites and even Geek Squad saying 32GB max, which is simply false. So far so good. I ran into a minor BSOD issue, which the VRAM and GPU chip were not being recognized, but this was able to be resolved by updating the driver to the latest version (577.00 at time of writing).
A little background for me includes working at IBM on server systems, systems testing, and scale management, along with working as a Managed Service Provider (contracted IT), Cybersecurity Specialist, and Network Administrator. I know what I'm doing with machines, to say the least.
I will update this review approximately 6 months from purchase, which was on July 11, 2025 and shipment received on July 12, 2025.
This machine is quite good for the cost on sale ($649.99), especially considering you get a dedicated GPU (dGPU) with 6GB of VRAM. This is good for lower-mid level graphics work, which is what I will be using this for. I installed some upgraded RAM modules so that I can work with multiple large applications at once, however, the installed 16GB of HP branded RAM and the dGPU is sufficient for gaming on High Settings (definitely not Ultra) in many of the newer AAA games at reasonable FPS. This machine is good for students who might want to play some games to decompress after some studying, or business workers for a bit extra power for the more demanding tasks. I strongly urge anyone who wants to use this for business or gaming to upgrade the operating system to the Pro version, so that you have more granular control over what runs, efficiency, and various settings that aren't available in the Home/Student version that is pre-installed (you can find deals on this with some searching).
So far this has handled video (at 1080p/120fps) and photo (at 3840×2160) editing and some work in Blender with ease, and not a whole lot of resource usage. For the less technical, this works quite well for Full HD video editing and very smooth motion, and 4K photo editing with high detail and color accuracy. Blender is used for animation work, which typically requires some precision to which this is capable of. It doesn't get hot, and it hasn't reached its potential maximum workload. I haven't put this through my full testing yet, so I will update with more detailed information later as previously mentioned.
All in all, this seems to be a pretty good machine for the price I paid. HP was making some mistakes with their product quality for a while, but it seems they have corrected that recently. The build quality is pretty solid, which is a dense thermal resistant plastic. The internal cooling fans (there are 2 blower style) seemed to be pretty quiet when I hit 78% GPU load. When I took off the bottom plate to install the RAM modules, the components seemed quite well organized, particularly for cooling purposes.
Now for the relatively bad news:
The USB-C port is only USB-C 3.0, which is capable of 5 Gigabits per second max downstream transfer... I would hope for at least USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 or USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 for 10 Gbps, but it doesn't seem to be in most HP devices (at least not yet). I'm not expecting USB4 or Thunderbolt 3/4 in a lower cost machine, but some older standards should be reasonable enough in my opinion, which it is sadly lacking. The Type-A ports are both 3.0, so at least it's that much, but again, 3.1 would have been nice. As for the minor BSOD issue mentioned earlier, I'm calling that an NVIDIA/Win 11 issue, and not a machine issue since it was easily resolved with a driver update through the NVIDIA console.
Now for the good news (because you don't get dessert without your veggies first):
This machine is good for the money I paid and rather decent for the full retail cost of $899.99. It's capable of a reasonably high workload, even with the pre-installed 16 GB of RAM (2×8GB modules). It's fast enough for some reasonable gaming at 80-110 FPS for many newer games.
Overall Score: 8 out of 10 - Good but not excellent
1 point for price ratio (max 2 - 1 for full retail price to what you get)
2 points for build quality (max 2)
2 points for components (max 2)
1 point for features (max 2 - 1 for lack of updated USB)
2 points for expectations met (max 2)
I hope this is helpful for any readers, and I made sure to judge things as fair as I can. Update to come.

I recently picked up the HP Victus with the Ryzen 7 processor and RTX 4050 GPU, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The performance on this laptop is incredible for the price—fast boot times, smooth multitasking, and gaming that feels surprisingly high-end for a mid-range machine. The Ryzen 7 handles productivity tasks effortlessly, and the 4050 delivers impressive frame rates on modern titles without running too hot or loud. The build quality is solid, the keyboard feels great to type on, and the screen is crisp and vibrant enough for both work and play.
What really made this experience outstanding, though, was the help I received at Best Buy. The staff took the time to walk me through different models, answer all my questions, and make sure I chose the laptop that genuinely fit my needs instead of just pushing a sale. Their knowledge and patience made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Thanks to them, I walked out completely confident in my choice—and now that I’ve used the HP Victus for a while, I can say they absolutely steered me right.
Overall, highly recommended laptop and equally excellent service from Best Buy!

I recently purchased the HP Victus from Best Buy, and I am incredibly impressed with the value this laptop offers. It delivers a near-premium experience without the premium price tag.
What I love:
Performance: The CPU/GPU combination handles demanding modern games and heavy multitasking (like video editing or complex data analysis) with ease. It runs cool and quiet under normal load, which is a huge plus.
Display: The screen is sharp, bright, and the high refresh rate (if applicable to your model) makes a huge difference in fast-paced gaming and general smooth scrolling.
Design: It strikes the perfect balance between a professional work laptop and a gaming rig. The sleek, minimalist design doesn't scream "gamer," which I appreciate for business use.
Keyboard: The keyboard is comfortable and responsive for long typing sessions and gaming.
This laptop is a fantastic investment for anyone needing a powerful machine for both productivity and entertainment. Highly recommend!

I’m satisfied with this laptop overall. It performs well for daily tasks, has a smooth and fast response, and the screen quality is clear and comfortable for long use. The design is sleek and lightweight, making it easy to carry around. Battery life is decent and meets my needs. For the price, it’s a good value and I would recommend it.

At sub-$500 this is a fantastic deal. The display is crisp with vivid colors and a high refresh rate. Even under heavy load the chassis stays cool, and fans are quiet by gaming laptop standards.
The system is easily upgradable (both ram and SSD) which is a huge plus as even many corporate grade machines use soldered memory these days.
The keyboard has decent travel for a laptop and is comfortable to type on.

The HP Victus 15.6" is a fantastic value‑for‑money gaming laptop that delivers strong performance without breaking the bank. The combination of the AMD Ryzen 7 7445HS and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 makes it capable of running modern games smoothly, especially with the 144Hz Full HD display. Fast‑paced titles feel fluid, and the colors and brightness are solid for both gaming and everyday use.
With 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, the system feels snappy for multitasking, game loading, and general productivity. The laptop stays surprisingly cool for its class thanks to HP’s improved thermal design, and fan noise is reasonable even during longer gaming sessions.
The Mica Silver finish gives it a clean, premium look without being overly flashy. The keyboard is comfortable for long typing or gaming sessions, and the overall build quality feels sturdy for daily use.
If you’re looking for a laptop that balances performance, design, and price, the HP Victus 15 is a great choice. It handles gaming, streaming, and productivity with ease, making it a reliable all‑rounder for both work and play.

I've used this laptop now for over a month and here are my thoughts:
The Good
Boots up quickly
Good graphics for the price
Mouse pad is passable
Screen is decent
16 gigs ram is enough
Fairly quiet
The Bad
Battery life is pretty short
You will want to upgrade the storage if you have more than a couple games you want to play

I’ve been using the HP Victus 15.6" (Ryzen 7, RTX 4050, 16GB RAM) for a couple of weeks now, and it’s honestly a great machine for the price. It handles all my games really well — smooth performance, no overheating, and the 144Hz display makes everything feel super fluid.
The design is clean and the Mica Silver finish gives it a nice, premium look. I also love how fast it boots up thanks to the SSD. Plenty of ports, solid keyboard, and it stays cool even during long sessions.
If you’re looking for a reliable gaming laptop that won’t break the bank, this one’s a solid choice.

I’ve been using this Victus gaming laptop for several weeks and it’s been impressive. Performance is consistently strong: games run smoothly at high settings, multitasking and streaming don’t slow it down, and load times are quick. The screen is bright with sharp colors and a high refresh rate (model dependent), which makes fast games feel fluid. The keyboard has good travel and feedback for gaming and typing, and the trackpad is responsive. Thermals are handled well — fans ramp up when needed but the chassis stays comfortable. Battery life is reasonable for a gaming laptop (expect to plug in for long sessions). Overall this is a fantastic balance of power, features, and value — especially if you want a capable gaming machine without spending top dollar.

I bought this laptop for my son to do his college schoolwork and for playing Minecraft with his friends online. It does both very well! He's super happy with it.
He said the battery life is like 2 hours, but he doesn't take it to school so it's pretty much always just plugged in. It charges quickly when he needs to charge it.
There are only a few small things. He had to change some deep settings in the BIOS to use the volume buttons as marked. He's also had a few issues with the Bluetooth, but he and I need to look at that together before I can confirm this is actually a problem.

The HP Victus with AMD Ryzen 7 is a great value laptop for everyday use and light-to-moderate gaming. The Ryzen 7 processor and 16GB RAM make it fast, smooth, and reliable for multitasking, office work, browsing, and media. The 512GB SSD keeps boot times quick and apps responsive. The display is decent, the keyboard is comfortable, and overall performance is excellent for the price. Battery life is average, but acceptable for a performance-focused laptop. A solid choice if you want power and affordability in one package.

i love gaming but i had to switch from desktop to laptop, due to work; but had to keep it under a budget.so i went from a RTX 3060 Ryzen 5 3600 desktop pc, to this laptop. i had my concerns moving from a 12GB VRAM GPU to a 6GB VRAM mobile GPU, but this works better than expected.
be aware, this is a Ryzen 7 BUT it only has 6 cores 12 threads (just like Ryzen 5 processors), instead of 8 cores 16 threads which i consider the standard for ryzen 7. no issues so far, just feels like false advertising.
now the good stuff, i didn't see a lot of reviews talking about gaming performance for this specific model, even if you can search videos online for similar laptops.
COD black ops 6 multiplayer and zombies - 160+ fps Balanced, DLSS performance.
Warzone - 115-130 fps Balanced, DLSS performance.
Rocket league - didn't check for FPS, but it runs it nice and smoothly (not a demanding game).
Fortnite - 150+ fps.
basically esports titles and less demanding games will work great.
for more demanding games, you have to work thru the settings to have the game look good. i tried Wuchang fallen feathers on high settings and had a lot of frozen screens (didn't check FPS), had to lower down settings and activate DLSS so i could play. haven't try another games but videos are online.
watch out for temps if you are playing demanding games, the laptop gets hot around the middle/right side of the keyboard. planning on buying a cooling pad with fans, in the meantime i put something in the back so this thing can get fresh air.
also think about changing the nvme ssd, 512GB will get full fast. 16GB ram will also need to be upgraded in the near future.
Display looks great, colors are OK. - i had a IPS 120hz 1440p monitor on my desktop, so this is not a good upgrade for me, but gets the job done.

Have a Desktop at home but since I was living somewhere for 6 months I had to find something more portable and not too expensive but can run games like a champ! And then found this bad boy! Only thing is memory but how it performs. That doesnt bother me since I only play like 2-3 Games heavy. Performs, sounds quiet, bought a fan for it so I don’t have to worry, and looks GREAT!

I've been using the HP Victus 15.6" gaming laptop with the Ryzen 7 7445HS and RTX 4050, and it's been a great experience so far. The performance is impressive for the price — it handles modern games smoothly at high settings, and the 144Hz display makes everything feel super responsive. The design is clean and sturdy, and it runs pretty quietly under load. Battery life isn’t amazing, but that’s expected for a gaming laptop. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're looking for a powerful, affordable gaming machine without all the flashy extras.

Although battery life isn’t the best it is still a very good powerful laptop. It ran games way better than I expected as long as you adjust a couple settings and keep it plugged in. I would recommend more storage than 500gb if u plan to play many games or store heavy files. There is a couple things that could make it better but nothing too significant of a change but other than that I would definitely recommend.
