To preface this, AoC was my first Warriors-type game. Here’s some of my positives and negatives. PROS - Remarkably fun. - Plenty of different characters to chose from, especially in the late game. - Surprising amount of cutscenes and voice acting compared to previous Zelda titles. - Plenty of quests to complete, both main and side. - Visually similar to BOTW. - Assuming this game is canon, the storyline implications are shocking. CONS: - The performance is pitiful at times. It must drop to at least 15fps or less. - Despite the amount of quests, most of them are either “kill these things” or “find me these things.” No variety. - Gameplay is repetitive. The solid character roster helps immensely, but it’s still a chore at times. - Weapons grinding can get annoying.

The way they took the time to make each character play pretty distinctly from each other ala Overwatch or a MOBA is really nice. Gameplay is fast-paced and fun, especially in co-op. It's nice to see parts of the BotW map remade to look like before Ganon tore it up. One potential downside: And if you like games with a real challenge--you're a FromSoftware/Souls game player etc.--this game will be way too easy for you, I think. One definite downside: story is majorly disappointing, since it basically retcons the events before Breath of the Wild--if you wanted a legitimate prequel that connects the tragedy of Hyrule's fall to its recovery in BotW, this isn't it. We have fun playing it regardless of its faults.

I've never owned a game in the the Dynasy Warriors series, but I knew them by reputation and through the original Hyrule/Fire Emblem Warriors so I was optimistic about Age of Calamity. The game plays similarly to the previously mentioned games so if you're comfortable mowing through hordes of enemies with various characters with some challenging boss fights in between, then you'll have a good time. It carries some elements from Breath of the Wild combat, mainly the dodge/parry & sheika slate, but this gamepay style has different priorities/goals. The story is more prevalent along with increased cutscenes that place more emphasis on character interractions, which I was really yearning for in Breath of the Wild. Gameplay can get repetitive if you're not ok with the core combat loop so I would recommend trying the free demo on the Nintendo eshop if you're still on the fence. I've yet to finished the story for this game, but I'm looking forward to seeing where the journey takes me.

This game is a must-buy for any BOTW fans. I'm not usually into dynasty warrior style kind of games but this one won me over. They not only managed to improve on the graphic fidelity of the previous game but also much more story-driven and filled with personality. Every character is unique with different combo strings and flashy moves that really up the enjoyment factor of trying new characters.

So this is going to sound like a lot of contradictions but that's kind of koei techmo's M.O. in my experience. This is their best Warriors game out of the ones they've done with Nintendo's IPs. The characters are varied and fun to use, I have to stress this since the OG Hyrule Warriors had some great diversity in how characters felt but Fire Emblem really lacked this. That really helps the game avoid being more repetitive than it already is. There's a lot of combat in this so you'll be having to do a lot of running and slashin. The gameplay is, well it's warriors. Let me restate that, this is NOT, AT ALL, like Breath of the Wild- it's a hack and slash game. I saw some being confused by this, but it is an entirely different game from Nintendo's Zelda title. Here's where I contradict myself- Best warriors game? Yes, certainly, but it's performance is ghastly. Single player you'll be averaging 24fps, co-op? It's EASY to hit SINGLE, DIGITS, with Urbosa being able to do that on command. Her lighting attacks destroy performance & they're common. You can't play this online or networked, so if you play co-op, where I find these games most fun, you'll have to stomach some incredibly poor performance. On the flip side enemy crowds are more numerous than Fire Emblem Warriors which would slowly spawn in AFTER you ran into an area. I'll say this now: this is not going to be fixed. They have never, ever patched their games to do any better at honestly the Switch is at it's limit here. The visuals look really nice as they're trying to look like Breath of the Wild, so that plus the massive armies and all the insane effects going on? Doubtful they're getting any better fps out of this. If they make some kinda Switch Pro? It MIGHT do better, it depends on what the hardware improved. But as it stands? On the current Switch/Switch light hardware? It's pretty dire. If you're in portable mode the resolution will drop to around 360p as well (vs the 720p the screen can do). Do I recommend this game? Yes. I hate giving it a numeric rating because it's really had to cram such a review like that. The performance is unacceptably poor, but the gameplay is a blast if you're into it. Do you need to play this to learn more about the BoTW lore? No. They claim it's a prequel but it's not, at all. Without any spoilers this game will not help anything lore related. The short: Do you like dumb hack and slash games that you run around at 30mph, killing hundreds of enemies per map? Get this. Do you want exploring like BoTW? Avoid.

Hyrule Warriors is such a fun game and the only game that you can actually play Zelda and the other characters. It's a slashing game but this could take you into hours. I got 90 hours into this game until I decided that that's enough already around 90%+ completion of the game. You really get into this and I'm thinking of restarting it again.

I will preface with the fact I got this on sale for like $30. Half the normal price, so of course it’s more of a value for me. That said, this game is lots of fun, I don’t have an issue with slowdown and frame rate like I’ve read in reviews, maybe because I have a newer switch model. Gameplay is over the top combat, taking out literally hundreds of enemies every few minutes. There are actual challenges to kill 500 enemies within a time limit. The super charged powers make you wonder how Link and the other heroes ever lost against Gannon but I haven’t finished the end yet…maybe they explain. You are insanely over powered and crushing enemies. At the same time combat is very familiar to BOTW and shares the same graphics. My kid likes seeing what happened before BOTW and the story is well done. Looks like Nintendo had a hand in the cut scenes. Very good. This is a perfect game to play before BOTW2 comes out…someday. The gameplay is much easier than BOTW so my young kids both enjoy it.

Absolutely phenomenal. If you love the legend of Zelda and dynasty warriors even if you're not sure about this I'm honestly saying this is the best looking game since breath of the wild on the switch it runs flawlessly the story is breathtaking the boss fights are challenging when you make them challenging and it's just such a brilliant story

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity was a wonderful game. I loved seeing Hyrule 100 years in the past. The story was great and the characters really made the game shine. Even post game it still manages to keep the fun going with new challenges. The hack and slash gameplay may not be for everyone but the game is still worth a shot.

Amazing!! Absolutely amazing!!! The story, the characters, the cut scenes, the game play, everything!!! The game and the story are so enticing. Only thing is that you need to pay attention to the timeline as some of the events are different than expected, but still a wonderful twist.

So if you haven't tried it yet, go ahead and download the free trial of this game. If you have tried it or enjoyed any past Warriors titles this one doesn't disappoint. Story wise there is a lot of content here and a lot of great characters with cool upgrades. Aside from that the only somewhat glaring issue is the frame rate. That said it's consistent with the demo. I only had one instance of playing the Zora domain with rain and electric attacks all around that the frame rate dropped very low. I'm somewhat surprised that Nintendo hasn't opted "yet" to patch the game for both a performance and a quality mode like in past titles. Right now we just have a quality mode with visuals running at up to 1080p. But an up to 720p mode with higher fps would be welcome for some levels. That said all of this could be a non-issue if Nintendo releases a "Switch Pro" next year. But frame rate aside this really is a good game (that will hopefully get a patch soon).

Game brings back lots of memories from Breath of the Wild. Even after finishing the main story, there are lots of side missions and characters to unlock. All the characters have their own style of moves but personally miss the maps from original Hyrule warriors.

The graphics are good and the story is excellent. The story is set 100 years before another game, The legend of Zelda: breath of the wild. The gameplay needs to be set a little bit harder as the normal difficulty is quite easy. I enjoyed the game nonetheless.

A sequal to Hyrule Warriors but acts as a prequel to Breath of the Wild by filling in what happened 100 years ago before Calamity Ganon attacked. This is my first dynasty warriors game and I am throughly enjoying it. The frame rate is a bit slow sometimes and the camera can derp out for a few seconds but I really hasn't affected the gameplay in my experience. If you want more of Breath of the World's story or just like dynasty warriors, I'd recommend this.

This game is such a blast to play! Gameplay-wise, it is an improvement over the original Hyrule Warriors, but is not as content heavy, at least not yet. Hopefully DLC is coming soon! All of the characters feel unique, and there isn't anyone that I dread having to be play as, unlike the original (looking at you, Tingle and Agitha). As a heads-up for fans of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it does play more like that than Hyrule Warriors. Also, it is not a prequel, it splits the timeline in the opening cutscene, so events are a little different than what is seen in the memories.
