the directions and the box states that there is a plug to drain this freezer but it is not. freezer is too low to the ground see you do put up and underneath it so your floor would just have to be wet when it was time to defrost freezer.when I returned the freezer back to Best Buy help me load and on the web it stated there was no plug lot of people had a problem with the freezer

I had this freezer less than a month and it stopped working. Also the top cover would not stay closed. I would find it standing open.

    Just What I Needed

I have to admit I was a bit leery after reading some of the other reviews but, after not being able to buy a thanksgiving turkey when they were on sale this year because my apartment size refrigerator's freezer compartment was too small to fit one if I have anything else in it, I decided to give this a try as it was at a rock bottom price as a deal of the day . I let it set the 24 hrs after delivery before plugging it in and it started getting cold in about 5 minutes and was at my set temperature within an hour. There was a strange smell for the first couple of days. I called my brother who does cooler/freezer repair and he said, "It's a new unit so the smell is normal and will go away in a day or two", and it did. The interior set up is good and there is plenty of room. I'd love to have a second or a bigger basket but I'm not going to knock it for that, the basket it has works well. It has stayed right at the temp I set it at, with no issues now, since Dec 6th 2012. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that it's a manual defrost, though I haven't had to defrost it yet, and the owners manual. There is a drain plug inside for when you defrost but there is no sign on this model of a drain plug on the outside and the manual shows it for the larger one but not this one. I searched extensively online and still can't find any info on it. So to sum up, it's been a great little unit that has let me take advantage of meat sales which, if what they are predicting about prices rising holds true, will save me a bundle come this summer. P.S. My BF did laugh when he saw it was an Igloo brand, he said "I thought they only made coolers." :)

I researched quite a while before my freezer purchase. I was looking for this specific size, and the most efficient. I looked at all the models on the Department of Energy website and found the best one, and then could not source it in my area. Then I stumbled on the Igloo, which was not on the Energy Star list. It is more efficient than the smaller freezers on the list, and 20Kw better than comparable sized units. I would have liked to place the freezer in my garage, since its already cold out there the 6 months a year my freezer will be in use. You'd think the freezer would have to run less to do its thing. The freezer has a stated operating temperature range, so that idea is out. Oh well, can't have everything. I have solar electric and my system can handle the additional demand of this efficient little freezer.

    Don't Buy, Stops Working!

Disclaimer - It takes a lot for me to write a negative review! We bought this freezer 3 weeks ago in order to store frozen breastmilk for our baby (and to donate some later). Perfect size and dimension for our basement. First issue, the cord is very short and on the right side, not the middle of the back. I know this may seem trivial, but it impacts where you can place it. After finding a spot, we followed the directions (even waiting the suggested 24 hours after moving it) to plug the freezer in and turn it on. We placed it on the middle setting and put in a ziploc bag of water to test it. It froze in no time, so the next day, we placed hundreds of ounces of breastmilk that our baby needs in there (clear room in the main freezer). 2 days later, my wife randomly checked the freezer and thank goodness. The bag of water that was frozen was completely liquid and the some of the milk started to defrost. THE FREEZER WAS WARM INSIDE AND NOT WORKING! When breastmilk thaws, you have 24 hours to use it. Our baby can't eat 200 ounces in a day so we would have to have thrown it all out had she not checked! So we brought everything back upstairs to the main freezer. Unplugged, replugged, turned to max freeze setting, took a water bag and it froze again within a few hours. Since the freezer was working again, we took everything back down. Mind you, only using about 1/4th of the freezer space. Checked it every morning and night and of course, day 3, the FREEZER WAS WARM and EVERYTHING STARTED TO THAW AGAIN! UNACCEPTABLE! We have moved everything back upstairs, will be taking this back Saturday and getting a freezer from some other manufacturer than Igloo. Please, do not buy this product. It would do the same for meat, veggies, etc. and that's just not safe or healthy!

    BEWARE!!

I honestly wish I could give this freezer zero stars. I purchased it on October 27th and it stopped working January 3rd. It was a great size and was a great sale price. With a name like Igloo...I thought I couldn't go wrong. Boy, was I mistaken! I had luckily purchased a freezer thermometer. To my disbelief, I opened the freezer to grab some fish and the temp was way up and things didn't look right. Everything appeared to be running. Light was on...the unit was making noise..but it was hot inside! Im a sportfishing and lobster girl. I lost all my lobster tails and pounds and pounds of fish. You just can't go to the store and buy the items I had. I was lucky that I had purchased the geek squad protection so I can atleast receive a $200 food spoilage reimbursement. Sadly, that only covers a small percentage of what I lost. You can't just go to the grocery store to replace months of hard work and exotics. With all this said...I do want to mention Best Buy was awesome with returning it. It was hassle free and after showing them all the poor reviews of the unit I was able to choose a different manufacture. I paid the extra for the GE 7.0 . I will never buy an igloo freezer again. Please spend the extra for a GE or Frigidaire. I know how upset I am about losing all my game. Someone else shouldn't have to go through this.

I liked the idea of the extra freezer storage in the garage. The operating manual says the freezer is not designed to operate in temperatures below 55 deg F. I live in Colorado; the idea of having an extra freezer in the garage might not be practical with this unit. I'm debating on bringing it inside because I'm worried it won’t survive the winter (soon as it gets cold). Since it did not cost much, I might just take my chances, who knows, it might work for years.

Looking for a small freezer to hold the extras when there is no room left in the family refrigerator, this was a perfect fit for our needs. Small, compact, but holds a great number of things.

    Great first freezer

This is our first freezer, and it is perfect for me and my husband so far. Since it is just the two of us, the size is great. We live in a very small apartment, and can only fit a small fridge, so we needed extra freezer room. It got cold very fast. We put a little bit of meat in it the first night, and when we woke up it was frozen. We have since gotten more food to freeze in there. It is great. I only have 2 small complaints. a) I measured per the website and it fit in the space I reserved for it. However, I did not expect the manual to say we needed to leave 4 inches all around the freezer. So that added 8 more inches to the space the freezer needs on the side, which made a difference in our very small space. It's worth it, but I wanted to point it out in case it does matter to someone else. b) I can hear it when it goes on and off, I didn't expect that either. It's not loud enough that we need to turn the tv up or anything, but my place just isn't as quiet anymore. Otherwise, we are pleased to have it, and plan to purchase a second one as a gift for my mother in law :)

you get what you pay for

I bought this freezer on a whim. It was a) small b) cheap I had a narrow stairway to the basement so this size appeared to be perfect. Everything started out ok. I let it freeze and gave it a few days to make sure it was working alright. 2 weeks into we went to grab some food and realized that it had stopped freezing and everything that we had in there had thawed out and gone bad. I called best buy and since it was past 15 days they stated that the in store warranty had expired. They also stated that it was still under warranty but I would have to contact the manufacture to have them send someone out. They gave me Igloo's customer service. When I called Igloo they stated that although the product carries the Igloo name it is actually manufactured by a company called Curtis. They gave me their info and I called them. The Curtis rep was able to walk me through reseting the freezer. It was pretty smooth and my hope was that this would solve the problem. All seemed well for about another 3 weeks. After a few days I felt safe putting food back into it. Fast forward a few weeks and the same thing happened. At this point I'm obviously frustrated. I've trusted the product twice and twice I've been burnt and lost who know's how much food? I called Curtis back to try to remedy the situation. The Curtis reps confirmed that the product was still under warranty and they could help. All I had to do is ship them the freezer. They stated that they would either fix the current freezer or send me a refurbished model. All I would have to do is pay for 1 way shipping and also $7 insurance. What a deal!!!!!! First off I was annoyed that they didn' t have any service people nearby that could just come and look at it. It's not like I'm in a small town. Secondly the idea of hauling this freezer back up the steps didn't excite me. Thirdly the fact that I had to pay for shipping was the craziest thing. I have to imagine shipping this freezer would be about the same as it would be to buy a whole new one. Lastly just as an extra insult...we have to charge you 7 bucks for insurance. I must have talked to 3 different agents and several different managers. Even though some of them admitted that this was a screwed up policy they still held tough to it being a policy. The truth is I didn't want this freezer fixed. I had visions of them getting this, reseting it just like I did. They would say everything is working fine and ship it back. A few weeks later the whole process would repeat. I wanted either a) a brand new freezer or b) a refund. The reps reiterated to me that neither of those options were possible.....it wasn't policy. So...I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. What I would recommend for you to do is simple. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT.....DON'T BUY ANYTHING THAT CURTIS MADE!!!!! Save yourself that hassle, bite the bullet and get a more quality brand. If you do buy this I would recommend buying the optional warranty. It has an allowance for food spoiling and you can take it back directly to the store and not have to deal with the lack of customer service that the Curtis reps have. Hope this helps

The product is great. We love it. The only problem we had was with Best Buy. Our reward zone card didn't work (again). Attempts to call customer service were futile, and emailing the website was useless. Love the product, annoyed by the company.
