Iced up in a day.
5 months later started defrosting, called India, could barely understand tech support. I had already done what they told me to do which was to unplug and wait 24 hours. That DID NOTHING.
I tried to explain to the agent that I had already done that, I can read after all and that was in a faq somewhere.
So, I went through their process and repeated the unplug and wait. DID NOTHING. called back, told to mail it to their repair center and they would see what they can do. What a joke. Mail a freezer ?
At my cost of course. Agent told me to contact FedEx or UPS and they would take care of it. RIGHT....
What a joke. I called best buy and was told they could do nothing for me. Now I'm going to print out some of these reviews and take them in and talk to the store manager and then we'll see what happens...
Becuase this said Igloo, I thought it would be reliable. Igloo is just a name on it. as others said, curtic made it.

This freezer was to be used to store Breastmilk since our fridgerator/freezer combination doesn't get to low enough temp for long term storage. After 3 months of use the temp started to rise. After consulting "CURTIS INTERNATIONAL" the company that licenses IGLOO's name for their product I was told indeed it would need to be fixed and that to use the 1 yr warranty offered with the product - I would need to "MAIL" the freezer back to them.. That's right, I said "MAIL" and they would only pay for the shipping back once they've fixed it.
Other than that the freezer was great for 2.5 - 3 months. The shelves are not movable so you must be satisfied with the height of the shelves. The size was great it wasn't as deep as other freezers its size so perfect for a small apartment kitchen. I really wanted this to work.

this product was great until six months later. the freezer quite working without warning. Lost 250 dollars in meat and veggies. called the manufacturer for warranty info. was in warranty but had to send it back to them and pay for that plus and extra 7 dollars for insurance. it would be 100 dollars to ship it to them and on a prayer they might fix it. I went to my local Best Buy in league city,tx, the managers heard my case and offered a real reasonable solution and i was able to get a freezer and geek squad protection in chest style and that went out after a month. Best Buy offered me a full refund. they have been absolutaley wonderful and courteous about everything where the manufacturer did absolutely nothing. I will never buy anything from igloo again and that is ashame for a name that has been around for a very long time.

Exactly what I was looking for! Doesn't take up much space at all, and still holds tons of excess food. Frosts a little on top shelf, but nothing that causes any problems. Still perfect choice for what I was wanting.

Good inexpensive upright freezer

I wanted a upright freezer but did not want to pay the high prices. I brought this freezer got it home and the frame seemed warped. You only have two adjusters in the front to level the freezer. I could not get it level. I looked at the top of the front door and the gap from the top of the door to the freezer was wider on the left side of the door compared to the right side of the door. So i packed it all up and hauled it back to Best Buy.
Exchanged it for a another one and check the new one out before I left the store. The new one was fine. So i took it home, leveled it and it has been working fine ever since. Quiet running. No hassle from Best Buy either.

My son helped me purchase this brand freezer for me online and it was delivered on Friday evening. I was excited as my old freezer was big, expensive to run and old. The new one looked great when it arrived, a perfect size for my needs. I was very happy for the first 2 days then it stopped working. I am a senior citizen and i need to budget closely. Having lost all the contents of my food because the freezer broke so soon after it arrived, well i thought they would at least help some with the food. I was told sorry but you didn't buy some sort of extended warranty, even though it was only 2 days? I was told I could get credit for the broken freezer after it is picked up and processed which based on their schedule will be three weeks from now. This is my first experience with an online appliance purchase and I was excited and now am feeling very let down. I have learned it is very important to read the reviews thoroughly in all this. If you are looking for a freezer I would get another brand even if it cost more, it is worth it. Don't buy this model, get another and if you need an appliance seriously consider getting it at the store so if something goes wrong it is much easier to deal with. This freezer is very inexpensive but it is very poor quality, get another model even if it cost more.

This freezer was a fine product for about 6 months. At this point it stopped cooling. My game of phone tag lead me to a call center in India. Where I was told, for a fee they could give me an address to send the freezer to. However I would have to pay shippping costs. Shipping would have costed more than buying a new one. There is a 1 year warrranty on this product however it is worthless. At this point I would not even buy an Igloo cooler.

I bought this online, not really grasping the size. I expected an appliance about a foot shorter, and was afraid I wouldn't be able to utilize the entire space. However, I soon found that I liked the openness and being able to organize the items I put in by type of food. I do wish it had a drawer or two, just to hold odd shaped items, but you can't beat the size and value for the money.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT! The inspector must be snoozing on the job or was laid off. So, if you MUST purchase it then: say your prayers first, rub yourself with a lucky rabbit’s foot (or maybe even eat it and some lucky four leaf clovers), carry a horseshoe in your pocket or whatever else before you buy this thing because sheer luck is the only reason some of these units may be working and without defects!!
I purchased this Igloo FRF690 6.9 cubic foot freezer on 10/15/10. On 10/18/10 the Best Buy guys delivered it and all seemed ok at first glance (no cracks or dings and motor kicked on when they plugged it in) but there was a ½ to ¾ inch chunk of paint sticking up off of the interior cooling coils (at the transition point where the copper pipe is painted white… it looked like it could have been rusted and blistered off or just an EXTREMELY poor paint job). I pointed it out to the delivery guy – he told me to leave it alone and if it’s that big a deal to call the Best Buy store. I thought I’ll live with it since he said it’s ok. When I started wiping the interior to put food into it, I noticed one of the shelf brackets was crooked, so I went to straighten it, but then noticed the shelf bracket was loose because it was not attached or welded on at all from the factory as all the others were and figured the shelf may collapse if we put weight on it. I called the Best Buy store at around 10am – the man I spoke with was very understanding and said they will replace it and the next one would be fine as it is improbable to get two bad ones. After a series of phone calls – he was helpful and things seemed to be on track for getting it exchanged.
The next one was delivered on Saturday 10/23/10. One of the delivery guys rubbed against the stairwell wall and got it dirty, but otherwise an uneventful delivery… I checked the brackets and all seemed attached in the replacement unit – I noticed at that one small (pea-sized) area of the freezer coils by the top shelf was not painted, but figured I could deal with that. Per the instructions, I waited a couple of hours to plug it in… seemed to be working ok since motor turned on right away. Wanted to know it will work before I start cleaning it.
Sunday 10/24/10 – did no work.
Monday 10/25/10 – Decided to check it out again – seems to be ok – motor seems to be working since its cold on the inside. Upon moving it to a better location, noticed the top cover of the freezer is not attached in the front left corner as are the other three corners. Ok thought I can live with that, since don’t know it’s an issue if you don’t touch it and doesn’t seem that it will affect anything major. (Maybe I could put something heavy on it so there is no air leak??) When I went to put the door handle on, at first I thought it was scratched, but upon closer inspection, I realized the door handle was cracked halfway through! When I called the store the guy was very apologetic, I said its ok its not his fault, it’s just a cheap, horribly poorly made unit. Unfortunately we could not find a freezer this size made in the USA – so we were trying to deal with/live with the flaws as long as its functioning… but a cracked door handle is unacceptable because that is a part that will get a lot of wear and stress. He gave me two phone numbers and said it shouldn’t be a problem to get a part or replace the freezer again ! After calling there and being transferred EIGHT times they wanted to SELL me a new handle, then being transferred and on hold, I spoke with a rep who said they would send a tech out to look at it and replace it ONLY IF the tech decides there would be possible future major health/safety issues due to these flaws. The appointment is four days from now so will update when I know what happened with his visit (rep said it may take a couple of visits to fix/resolve the issues). (In the meantime, I went to see if there was anything else I noticed and actually in total, I see three areas have unpainted spots on the cooling pipes).
I saw the poor reviews before I bought it, but thought they can’t all be bad and it is the size upright freezer that we need, but I was wrong… they CAN ALL BE BAD!!! I cannot emphasize that I feel I made a HUGE MISTAKE in purchasing this freezer – I SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED TO LOOK FOR A FREEZER MADE IN THE USA, ONE WITH BETTER REVIEWS, OR DO WITHOUT!! Bottom line, I cannot comprehend why Best Buy sells this garbage instead of having a quality upright freezer in this smaller size – so … WARNING: RUN AWAY FROM THIS FREEZER AS IF YOUR PANTS WERE ON FIRE!!!!!!! I cannot emphasize that enough because one defective freezer is one thing, but to get a replacement within a week and it is defective too… hello Huston we have a problem! I am certain if they replaced it again, there would still be defects since I have NEVER had a replacement anything to have a problem. I guess there is a first time for everything.
(The saga continues as I wait for the repair tech to come out on 10/28/10… will update then – I just hope this will be resolved… Even if it is resolved ok, I would not recommend this freezer for all the time and aggravation which I wasted on this. It is not worth it). Maybe some got lucky, but it is pure luck not anything beyond that when it comes to the quality of this; hence, the comment about praying, having rabbits feet, clovers, horseshoes or whatever else for luck or miracles to occur. I’m kicking myself because I should have totally listened to the poor reviews!!
The ONLY good things I have to say about it is that it is quiet and a nice size. (If they could only make a good product in this size it would be wonderful). The Best Buy guys seemed apologetic, but again it wasn’t their fault this is so poorly made. The Best Buy buyers should look for products that are of a higher quality, try to get the factory to improve this, or not sell this particular model anymore. I have never encountered anything as poorly made as this – even when I think of all the disposable things which I have ever used.

This freezer is great. I did not want a chest freezer but did not want to pay an arm and a leg for an upright freezer. This one is very affordable and easy to organize.
I have had it for about 45 days and t has frosted up slightly, but no big deal with the savings I do not mind a little work.

The Perfect Smaller Compact Upright Freezer
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
We were looking for a smaller compact freezer, but did not like the usual chests that everyone sells that don't have enough shelves and you have to pretty much jump into to retrieve the food! We were pleasantly surprised when we took a chance and went into Best Buy just to see what they had and this was brand new and wasn't even on the floor to see. We bought it sight unseen just from the computer screen the associate showed us. We were so happy to finally find an upright that is not huge and could easily go down the stairs into the basement. It is so good looking too! It is perfect for a small family and was able to store a 9 x 13 pyrex dish width-wise with some room depth-wise to spare on the shelf, which is wide enough for our use. Have not thawed anything from this freezer other than bagels and they came out perfectly. Definitely worth the money so far.

Purchased an Igloo upright freezer at Best Buy

Purchased this Igloo Freezer at Best Buy, and after 11 months it does not work. I called Best Buy they told me to call the manufacturer. I called the manufacturer and they told me to turn the on knob a few times, unplug the freezer for a couple hours and then plug in back in. I did this and it still did not work. The manufacturer wants more money, a $7 payment, and told me to ship the freezer to them at my own expense. I went to Best Buy, spoke to the manager and he told me there is nothing he can do. With all the money my family and I spent at Best Buy over the years, I thought that the least they could do was to replace the freezer or meet me half way. I make a determination to forego Best Buy and shop elsewhere. In addition, I will be leary of any item that has the grand name "Igloo" written or embedded on it. Very poor grand, very poor service from the manager of Best Buy.

I like this freezer because it is upright, which means I can slide multiple (small) cookie sheets in at once and not have to stack them. However, it runs fairly loudly, and occasionally the door is suctioned shut and all I can do it wait until the air pressure equalizes. Overall, its an average freezer and it gets the job done, so that's whats important. Plus, its cheaper than much of the competition.

We weren't sure whether or not an additional freezer would truly be useful to our family. With that in mind, we did not want to spend much. In deciding between a small chest freezer and this small upright model, the price difference between the two was not much. However, the upright is much more easily organized in our opinion. Plus, since I (the mom) am 5'2", the thought of having to dig down to the bottom of a chest freezer was not attractive. That is the main reason we went with this upright. It is exactly what we needed. Yes, it's small, but that was what we wanted. The shelves are spacious enough that I can stack 3 or 4 casseroles atop one another. It is easy to find everything, and nothing gets lost as it would in a chest freezer. We are extremely pleased.

I love this freezer. The unit heats around the seal to prevent frost. It also vacuum seals everytime you shut the door. A perfect unit if you do have alot of space. It holds alot more than you would expect. Much better than a chest freezer.

We bought this freezer nearly a month ago. We needed something fairly inexpensive but didn't want to go the chest freezer route. This freezer works great for that purpose. It is pretty roomy inside. We only have it turned halfway up and it is about -15F I cant imagine how cold it would get if we set the dial on the Super setting. The door has a nice and tight seal. Occasionally there is a bit of suction trying to hold the door closed, but it's never that bad. The hinges are on the right side but can be moved to the other side if needed.
Now for the negatives... The Smell, this freezer came out of the box with a very strong industrial kind of smell. I'm glad we were putting it into a utility room with a fan and doors that close it off from the rest of the house or my wife would have sent it right back. A month in and the smell is quite diminished but still there.
I'm sure it's needed for proper airflow and cooling, but the shelves do not extend to the back of the freezer. There is a small gap where items could easily fall down to the bottom of the unit. This wouldn't bee too bad except that the back edge of the shelf doesn't have any kind of lip to hold things in place. This means that you have to be extra careful not to push items back too far.
One other item of note; because the refrigerant runs through each shelf the very bottom shelf has some pretty exposed lines connecting it to the condenser/motor/everything else. This makes me a little nervous about putting too much around that shelf as I don't want to stress the lines and rupture them.
All in all. this is a good freezer that holds a fair bit of food in a small footprint. The issues i mentioned are all minor enough that I certainly don't regret the purchase. I would even recommend it to others who are looking for a functional and inexpensive solution.

We bought this freezer for extra space for frozen foods. Its not so big that you lose food in it but it holds enough for a family of four for a month. I love that it has cut down on the number of times I have to go to the store for meats. I only wish it had a light inside.
