Pros: Dolby Atmos Cons: One of those you’ll just watch once & never again. 3D was ok.

The packaging was tight, the disc snapping in crisply and not flopping about. This is a movie about a book. The movie is around the eyewitness of the White Whale reluctantly telling the tragic story to an aspiring author (Meville). It was a well done spin on the classic story. If you like movies about "old school" seamanship / man vs nature, then this is for you. This was a great movie IMHO. My wife often falls asleep during movies when she's cuddled up on the couch and comfortable. She was riveted through this whole movie. Hemsworth did a great job. So did his supporting cast. The 4K UHD experience really brings the crew's perils to life. The CGI could have been a little better but as a package, I didn't dock the rating.

This film is very entertaining and worth buying. The 4K UHD quality was a bit disappointing in that in specific scenes seemed not to have the 4K resolution and seemed less sharp. This did not interfere with the overall impact that this survival story delivers. This was a captivating film, that kept you on the edge of your chair, I want to watch it again, such a great story,

I took a chance getting this movie because of the potential of the 3d moments and the story of Moby Dick. Glad I did. Really enjoyed the intense moments in this film. Not a lot of 3d but enough to get the point across of the size of the whales. Very well done film.

A dramatic role for Hemsworth proving he's not just a live action figure. Howard's direction is not among his best efforts but the movie has a number of exciting moments, good character interplay and believable special effects. Overall a good joy ride.

This film is another astonishing film by Ron Howard. It's the story that was the basis for the Moby Dick. The characters are well defined as is the pace and story. The acting is spectacular, another great performance by Chris Hemsworth.

Each month the guys in our neighborhood get together for pizza and a movie while the wives play canasta. I selected this movie when it was my turn to host and it was a great hit. Many of the guys commented that it was one of the best movies we had watched and wanted to take it home to watch it again or show to others.

When I first found out about this film I was very skeptical to watch it because of the bad reviews but upon watching it I learnt that it is actually an amazing film. I really enjoyed the story and it was very interesting. Go and watch it and ignore what the critics have said cause it is actually a great movie.

Most people would probably give this movie 3 stars but I like sea faring movies so I give it 4 stars. Some real good special effects make it worthy, the acting is there and of course the old story of Moby Dick.

Not the best AV system, but pretty good, I think. Having had the same 46" Sharp Aquos TV, Old Blu-ray player, and 36 year old Kenwood receiver driving Mission 700 speakers, we decided to get modern. The new system has a Pioneer Elite receiver, Samsung 70" UHD TV, Sony UHD 4K player, Polk subwoofer and center channel speakers, Mission surround speakers, and Magnepan .7 front speakers. So, this is the disk we decided to try out as a test of the 4K experience. We REALLY like it. :o) Some tech stuff: There are many scenes with dark, moderate contrast, expanses of screen real estate. Having the lower end model UHD TV probably accounts for banding between the darker and lighter areas of any particular shot. I look forward to making a comparison with a higher model to see what another thousand bucks or so would have gotten us. But the overall impression in terms of video quality was fabulous. I had done some adjusting over the weeks and the picture looks pretty darned good on broadcast and streamed media. Regular Blu-ray DVDs look wonderful, and this disk looks really great. So, have I done an A/B comparison between the 4K and regular Blu-ray disks? Nope. But we have watched the UHD movie twice, and loved it each time. Experimenting with audio settings could take up most of your day... This disk has great ambiance and channel steering. Foley mix was very good to great, some sounds being too forward for my taste, but the voice and environmental tracks sound as good as you will find for the most part. The music is good, to the point I don't remember it much. That's an indicator that there were not any of those, "What the heck is that about?" moments when the music just broke the scene and it stuck in your mind. So, music fits. Good. Yeah... The Bass. Not the fish. The Bottom End. Plenty. The history of the USA is peppered with high - seas drama and adventure. The foundation of one of the greatest and most famous tales of the sea, Moby Dick, is laid out right before your eyes. The characters seem familiar, development of each person done right, and the monster... he's impressive. Not a feel good movie, but an exhibit of human nature at its best and worse. Mr. Howard proves once more that he is a master of his craft.

Visual effects brings Moby Dick to the big screen. Fighting and braving the elements and a whale with a vendetta. The men aboard the Essex learn that man does not control nature.

I am loving all the cheap 3D movies BB has been offering. I am adding at least 1 new movie to my collection every week lately. Great addition here as well.

Amazing movie. The unknown story of Moby Dick and how it came to be. A great 4K transfer it looks amazing especially in the ocean scenes I highly recommend this film. Long live physical media

This was a great movie depicting the lives of a whaler. My only complaint is that the 4k has scenes that appear to look odd or out of place. Maybe they were shot with 3D effects in mind.

Fascinating account of the true-life events that inspired Herman Melville's great novel about whaling. Stunning Dolby Atmos sound and excellent use of 3D. Highly recommended.

Thanks to Ron Howard and a stellar cast including two Marvel Heros (Thor and Spider-Man). Great telling of the classic book Moby Dick. Wonderful special effects.

The movie is inspired by the Moby Dick tale. The film is not as good as Master and Commander, but I really liked the story. The 3D effects are excellent.

This is a great story of perseverance and survival. Plus you get to see what Chris Hemsworth & Tom Holland were like before they got their super powers!

Enjoyed this movie had heard good reviews wasn't disappointed .3d adds so much life to picture .

Found this Blu Ray for 4.99 and enjoyed the movie. The take is cute and the acting superb the whale is big and Cary and the heroes battle it
