    Great Coen Brothers Movie

This movie was not as popular as some of the other Coen Brothers' movies, but it is a great melancholic tone piece in my opinion. The acting is top notch, the music feels very of-the-time, and the plot, though it may meander a bit, shows a few days in the life of a down and out folk singer in New York around the 60's. It depicts the struggles that most artists are faced with at some point in their careers... should I stick to what I love to do or should I sell out to make an honest living? Anyone who has had dreams of pursuing a career in the arts should be able to relate.

my only complaint with this movie, as with most cohen brothers movies, is it left me with wanting so much more. but the stories of very personal journeys as I have seen in many of their other movies (o brother where art thou, raising arizona, no country for old men) continues with this gem. some of the folk music is not entirely my thing, but I can appreciate what it meant to the musical landscape. strong and vibrant characters throughout, oscar isaac plays a convincing lead and you wish you could just advise him to make different choices sometimes.

If you like most of the Coen brothers work, you should like this film as well. Taking place during the early 60s, Greenwich Village (right before Bob Dylan hits it big), we follow Llewyn Davis, a folk singer whose had better days. The film's charm, like most Coen films, is the idiosyncratic characters that populate the film as well as the journey, both physical and spiritual that Llewyn Davis goes on. Great soundtrack, great performances. There is only one bonus feature but it is a good one, running about 43, covering all aspects of the production.

I bought this without having seen the movie before because I thought odds were good I would really like it, and although I did like it, I didn't love it like I was hoping I would. But then again, I have a feeling it will grow on me and I will come to appreciate it more next time around when I know there won't be much of a story to develop and I can just appreciate the meandering quality of Llewyn Davis.

I love movies that give the audience a glimpse of what life looks like for different people in different time periods. The movie follows Llewyn as he struggles to deal with the harshness of making it in the folk music seen of the early 60s. There are no twists, I could give you zero spoilers. All we see is a man struggling to survive and the reality that eventually our lives become a record of themselves, doomed to repeat when we refuse to change. DVD plays and that's about all I need to ask.

another subtle and well acted movie from the Coen brothers. Llewyn Davis is pretty much everything you'd expect from recent Coen brothers movies these days, nothing more, nothing less. Don't expect another Big Lebowski or No Country. Expect a more subtle and delicate film. Overall a good movie, but not great. Little DVD extras but even the DVD comes with UV digital copy.

The Cohen Brothers In Tune With Humor and Drama

As a drama this movie may be a little too slow and uneventful for some. Eventually, the circle of events may even become confusing. However, I found it rich in atmosphere and there is a lot of dry humor to be enjoyed. The cast members of this movie are wonderful in their craft.

Even if folk music isn't your thing, you will undoubtedly appreciate the beautiful singing on display here. The story seems mundane at first, but it will have you thinking by the end. Bottom line: if you like the Coen brothers, you will like this.

I got this movie for just $5 after it went on sale and I used my reward certificates but it was well worth it. It is a great film about a folk singer and truly deserved its praise. If you like the Coen Brothers you will enjoy this film.

If you are looking for a happy ending story, this isn't it. If you want, a close true story loosely based on someone in music. If you enjoy folk music as well. This is for you.

It is not the best of the Coen Brothers but it is on the high end (I would have put 4.5 if I could). Plot meanders but not a bad performance to be found and the music is first rate as well.

This movie nailed the ambiance of the 60's. I felt I was there in grinche village and listening to the great music. T-Bone Burnett as usual nails the score and the directing of the Coens is as always spot on with their shots, music, and choice of actors.

I enjoyed the movie and will definitely appreciate it more after multiple viewings. May not be for everyone as it can be a little slow and the end is open to interpretation but is a unique story.

greenwich village - 1961 - true story, watch this movie to get some idea of how hard it was to make it in that time period with little to no help from any person of any walk of life

Go into this movie expecting nothing. If you are expecting a specific story, you won't get it. Instead, just enjoy watching the life of a folk singer. The singing and acting by Oscar Isaac are incredible. I highly recommend this film.

The Coen brothers deliver yet again with their trademark sardonic humor, gorgeous cinematography, and a beautiful soundtrack. Great ensemble lead by the remarkable Oscar Issac.

Great movie with actually some pretty great music and a tremendous performance from Oscar Isaac, Davis is a character who is sometimes his worst enemy but you do feel for him in a world intent on grinding him down.

Still bitingly funny at times, perhaps not a Cohen brothers classic but still miles ahead of most of what's out there Oscar Isaacs is devastatingly human in this.

Inside Llewyn Davis was already one of my favorite films in the past couple years, and I'm ecstatic it got the Criterion treatment. The transfer is flawless and the bevy of special features are astounding.
