Customers are saying
Customers have good things to say about the USB to serial functionality, compatibility with various operating systems and devices, and the ease of use of this adapter cable. Many appreciate its quality and durable construction. However, some customers point out that the cable length is short, and that the lack of included drivers may pose a challenge for some users. Overall, the positive feedback on functionality and ease of use outweighs the concerns about cable length and driver support.

Basic works, based on PL2303 chip
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit worked for me on Windows 10, Linux and Mac. The one I got is based on the Prolific PL2303 chip, the cheaper of the two commonly used USB to serial chips. No driver CD was included or required.

Single Baud Rate only
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased to connect legacy RS232 serial line to my computer. After consultation with the manufacturer, turned out this unit will only communicate at 115kbps where I needed 19200 or 9600 bps. Packaging did not clearly indicate this. If it had, I would not have purchased this device, since it would not do what I want. Device returned.

Doesn't work with windows 7
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Specs say it will work with all versions of windows, the instruction manual says Windows 7 or 8 will automatically install the drivers, which it didn't, then says you can also download the drivers for all versions of windows from from the product page at www.insigniaproducts.com. But only the Mac drivers are listed. Called support to get the drivers and was told "Sorry but windows 7 isn't supported at all, its not the their fault it's Microsoft's, for not providing the drivers". Then why does the manual say windows 7 drivers will be installed automatically? and why not have the drivers still available for download on their own website? Wasted time and money. They should redo their manuals/instructions/specs because they are incorrect.

Insignia driver doesn't work in macOS Sierra
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia driver is not signed so it won't work in macOS Sierra with SIP enabled. There appears to be an updated driver that is signed here: http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=229&pcid=41

No driver software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not only did the store personnel not know what a serial port is, but they had no clue about whether this device will work on a Windows PC (maybe it does, but there's no way to find out). The instruction booklet tells you to go to insigniaproducts.com to find the Windows driver, but the only option offered is a Mac driver. The installer for the Prolific adapter (which this apparently is) is over 10 MB in size and hangs when you try to run it. All in all, this product is not ready for prime time and shouldn't be sold.
