Posted .Thank you for your feedback. As with all HD televisions, this unit is in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Unfortunately, before high definition content became the norm, we had 65 years of content that was made for 4:3 ratio television sets; movies, news, television programs, and advertisements. As a result, the incoming picture for anything not in 16:9 ratio is not the same shape as the screen. You are correct in stating that it’s impossible to make the incoming signal the same as the TV size, because they were made in different eras; it’s not because there’s anything wrong with the television. The unit does have aspect settings to alter how the incoming content will be altered to fit the screen size in a way that is more to the customer’s liking, such as stretching the picture wider or showing only a portion of the image across the viewable field. Your best picture will always be when getting an HD signal in 16:9 ratio, anything else will not fit perfectly. –Jason, Insignia Products
