QBD hasn't changed in 20 years, QBO is the future.

Let's get down to business and start off by saying if you already use QuickBooks Desktop then this review isn't for you. If, however, you're looking to choose between QBD and QB Online, you've come to the right place. Let's break it down, shall we? First off, QBD's visual design feels like jumping back to Windows 95 with the complexity to boot. There's so many issues with the overall layout that the developers have drawn arrows connecting relevant aspects of the client but this looks more like a child's attempt at a flowchart and less "business professional". General looks aside, windows are opened for every time you navigate to a different part of the program, as if the landing page is just a hub to launch more and more programs. Not only is this ridiculous, but it becomes cumbersome pretty quickly when they all stack in some invisible background folder instead of actually closing when you tell it to. Enjoy using 50% of your CPU and RAM on hidden windows? This is definitely the choice for you. Now we're getting to the good part so hold onto your hats. Ready? Lets go! If you make a mistake, which is bound to happen if you're new to QB, you have to DELETE YOUR ENTIRE FILE. Accidentally invoice something and not assign it properly? Well that'll be there forever now. There's "workarounds" but you'll always be looking at that mistake in your balance sheet. There's a lot of pre-made options to categorize expenses but if you don't setup accounts receivable correctly, then you're in for a world of hurt. Not only this, but NOTHING is intuitive at all about this program. The worst part is that it's clear the developers have been pouring their heart and soul into the online version, as it makes them more money, so this version has been left to rot. If you're hoping you'll be able to sit down and do your own bookkeeping with this program, understand that you'll need someone incredibly FLUENT in the ways of QBD to walk you through an initial setup otherwise you'll be watching HOURS of Youtube videos designed to help you understand the mess that you've bought. If you've made it this far, congratulations. You want the final verdict right? Personally, get neither of these options. QB as a whole takes the boomer approach to the problem: basically saying it doesn't exist. Both of these options are flawed and make accounting a literal nightmare. If you must use one, use QBO as the ability to directly link and upload transactions to it at any time for ALL supported banks, as QBD doesn't seem to work with my bank for whatever reason, is more helpful. However, be known that this program is unforgiving. Without paying for a QB accountant to help me setup services, I spent nearly 12 hours getting my business up and operational to current. I also had to completely NUKE and restart my books because of the same issue with accounts never being deleted even when you REMOVE THEM. For those that skipped to the bottom: tl;dr QBD sucks, don't buy this unless you've already used it and want subpar Windows 95 programming. QBO is slightly better but is also a travesty. If you have to choose one, QBO is the way to go. If you aren't locked into either, explore other options like Google Accounting by Wave.

The way I use QuickBooks, little has changed. Basically I was forced to buy it by Intuit. Intuit is really pushing the subscription model. Buying this is really just a 3 year prepaid subscription. I like the program, I hate the idea of subscriptions. It won't be long before the subscription is per entry into QuickBooks. A minimal charge for every customer we enter, every line on an invoice, every invoice we enter, every bill, every check...... then at the end of the year QuickBooks is a large expense.

Works as expected. It did everything for small businesses in general. However, you will need solid experience in accounting principles to work on your own or you will incur difficulty in posting journal entries without help. Payroll assistant is not included.

I'm coming off of the 2006 Desktop Version so this feels like a massive upgrade. The program runs very well on my new ASUS ROG Laptop. I like the feel of the design and they have made a lot of intuitive improvements to billing and receivables. I'm still learning about some of the features like viewing current payables and such but overall I have been really happy with the upgrade.

Does a good job, although I wish Intuit would stop making me upgrade. I don't need any new fancy features. Basic accounting is all I need. There may be a cheaper product out there that would get this done. However, I have nothing negative to say about Quickbooks. It's a good product. Also, I didn't want something web-based. This is the desktop version, which, again, is all I wanted.

Glad I got this before Intuit switched to subscription only for QuickBooks. If you can get this version then I would, but probably NEVER going to buy the subscription version.

Used Simple Start Quickbooks for 15 years and loved it. Have had this version for two months and like the updates. I use it for two businesses and two condo associations. Saves so much paperwork that other software does not offer and easy to print checks and accounting reports. I wish it was easier to switch between each business instead of always having to put in a password, this is minor inconvenience of 20 seconds each time, I can live with that.

The title says it all. It was an excellent purchase. I received the email very shortly after purchasing and the program was in my "digital library" when I logged in to my account. I downloaded and installed the program using the key sent to me by email and was up and running in no time.

QuickBooks is Great but Cloud Access is INSANELY $

A business must have for Quicken Users. At $400 USD it should include Quicken File Hosting for multi-user access or a reasonable access subscription (i.e. $200 / user / year on top $400 is INSANE). SMB's can easily be disbursed geographically especially during Covid. $100 / company should easily cover it with $400 / user should be more than enough to cover it.

Last Chance To (Sort Of) Buy Quickbooks Desktop

This is the last version of Quickbooks Desktop available for "Purchase". Intuit sells you the product, but not completely. They only support downloading transactions from your bank (a critical feature) for ~2 years. But wait a minute, I thought I was paying more money to "buy" the product. Intuit uses the excuse that connecting to your bank account uses Intuit servers. At the published date, Intuit pulls the plug on connecting to your bank! You still own the product, but now you have to enter all transactions manually. Your only recourse is to purchase another copy of the product. Oh wait a minute, it's not available for purchase after this year. If you want to continue linking to your bank account after Intuit quits supporting it, your only choice is to subscribe to the product. Currently a one year subscription goes for $249 or more. So what happens after your 12 months is up? You can no longer use the software unless you buy another subscription! Intuit is no longer happy selling you a copy every two or three years. They want your money every year without providing any new functionality.

Expensive software, but have to have it when running a business. Glad you can still get a stand alone desktop version, as the online version is very clunky.
