ION Sports XL is a great speaker and one that can hold its own but is lacking some of the features other party BT speakers have had over the past few years. App features are nonexistent, Can’t connect two Bluetooth devices at once, No EQ settings, No way to control two separate volume levels with Bluetooth (Phone/tablet Volume and Speaker Volumes needs to be adjusted.) Also, ION Speaker must be powered on to use the USB chargers on the front. Can be an issue if you plan to charge your phone at night with this. Perhaps I’m asking too much of an outdoor speaker or been spoiled over the years by other party speakers but I expected a little bit more. Outside of those issues, the speaker is wonderful for parties, tailgating, block parties, outdoors on a patio deck. The volume gets loud enough to cut through the sound of the outdoor noise. The sound of the speakers is good with little or no distortion. Loudness is excessive as it should be when using. It’s a clean and clear sound lets everyone hear. When the sound is off and Speaker is on; you can hear a low white noise emitting from the speaker. Bass Boost is one of the many few features on the ION Sport XL, it’s powerful enough to shake the ground and give booming bass around your area. I highly recommend keeping it on at all times as the speaker almost doesn’t sound that great without it. AM/FM/FM2 Radio worked perfectly and for a Party outdoor speaker, it has 8 presets. Enough channel presets to listen to your favorite game or team play from many channels. In addition to your speaker ION supplies a Microphone, AUX cord, and A/C cord. Microphone levels get extremely loud and shouldn’t be an issue if you wanna broadcast your voice to an audience. You can adjust the volume of the mic. Battery life lasts 3 days on 75% volume on a single charge in my uses of testing which I’m completely happy about. The design is beautifully rugged giving some orange accent to the black color. This gives it some element of design that looks nice in the sea of other black speakers. The design is perhaps my favorite of this speaker because it’s not just rugged looking but most of the design is practical. Handles are on the side for easy carrying and the telescopic handle makes it easy to move around for some BBQ summer parties. NFC connects to android phones on top of the speaker for easy pairing. Sports XL as I mentioned before doesn’t have a way for two people to connect to the speaker, this is a feature many have had on their party speakers in the past. If you are just looking for an outdoor speaker that can handle weather conditions like some rain ION Sport XL can handle it as it’s IP6X rated. One of the features it excelled at is water-resistant as it took a beating from the rain before I pulled it inside. At this price point I think the speaker does well enough; Especially considering the fact that you can buy two of these for the price of say Sony or LG’s Party speakers though I’m not one who would buy another one for a multi-speaker setup. Overall, in my opinion, this speaker is pretty straightforward. Wish it had more features that didn’t feel dated but for a speaker the ION XL is going to leave you satisfied. 4/5 stars.

Manual states you’ll need to charge it before use, but when I connected to ac to charge, the meter indicated it was fully charged. Connected easily to my iPhone. Sound is more than adequate for a 20’ x 20’ room / small back yard. Am fm reception leaves a bit to be desired. Base boost seems to distort fairly quickly. For the price, it’s an excellent value.

this portable speaker for under $200 was a deal! Loud, crystal clear digital sound even thru Bluetooth and especially AC direct. My battery lasted for countless hours and the mic was loud and clear for an excellent PA system.

THE BREAKDOWN: Great system for tailgating and pool parties. I actually have another ION bluetooth speaker that I purchased a few years ago. For me this one is far superior in sound and sturdiness. The packaging was very well done and like opening high end merchandise. In the box was everything needed to get this product up and running. It had the speaker itself, microphone attached to a cable, 1/8 inch (3.5mm) Stereo Aux Cable and a power cable. One note on the display when taking off the plastic covering it was very tough to remove it around the mic volume and volume knobs. The instructions for setup were very clear and easy to understand. After turning it on I let it charge for around 6 hours before I started using it. The look and feel of this Ion Sport XL speaker is very rugged and solid feeling. I love how the wheels are solid and feel tough. The Telescoping handle even feels solid unlike my previous model that felt wobbly. The performance was very good. I paired it to my phone very easily and the sound was very smooth. It has an 8 inch woofer and 3 inch tweeter which really does sound great. I feel as if this one sounds at least twice as good as my previous ION bluetooth speaker. One thing on the sound is that the Bass Boost is a bit lack-luster and sounded almost flat when listening to hip-hop style music. I found that the sound was very good outside in an open area, as I used this around my pool for music and football games! This speaker also has 2 USB charging ports to charge your devices. I thought this was a nice feature but it does seem to charge my phone at a slower rate than normal. It would have been nice to see one USB-C slot since most devices are moving in that direction. This speaker does have an easy pair like for NFC-enabled smartphones but I did not have a chance to test this feature. Another feature is the 75 hour battery life. I have to say I have used this for days now and it is still going strong at half battery. One of the other features is the Link feature in which I personally could not get to work. PRO’s: -Very well built and rugged -Setup was quick and easy -100 Watt power amplifier -8inch woofer and 3inch tweeter -IPX5 Water-resistant -75 hour battery life -Usb charging ports -NFC capable -Microphone included CON’s: -The included mic seems like it is inferior compared to the speaker -The Bass boost sounded flat and really didn’t add that much for me -The very top of the speaker where you can set you devices while they charge should be rubbery not plastic feeling SUMMARY: Overall, I feel that this product is really good and has a great fit and finish. I like all the features, and I feel that there is definitely some room for improvement for the mic and bass boost. I would definitely recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for something like this.

This is the second ion portable speaker i own. I owned the previous ion spectraboom series which I like a lot(but don’t love). This new Ion sport XL is 10x better than that speaker. But they are in different classes I guess. This speaker is 100% aimed towards the folks who are outside lovers. Be it football games, parties, the lake or in our case- the drive in movie theater. We love outdoor movies and this speaker is perfect for that. With the AM/FM tuner and all. The signal is strong but like most air wave broadcasting that’s not HD it doesn’t sound as good but it’s fine. It’s also meant to take a beating. And a beating we kinda gave it. It’s super sturdy. Dropped it on accident. Nothing hurt. The handle extends and you can lug it around super easy. Though It does weigh a bit. Hence the XL moniker. But not too bad. The wheels will hold up for years I can tell that much. This speaker just looks so nice with the added hot orange color. I like it a lot. It’s the little things that get me. So here is my opinion on what most find important. Sound quality. I can call myself an audiophile because I’m a huge techy and focus more so on sound quality over price. But the sound from this speaker is actually Great for its price point and the fact that it isn’t a stereo speaker set up. Just one main driver/woofer and one decently size tweeter plus a base port at the bottom. The port helps the overall sound quality. I was surprised as my old but very cool spectraboom speaker didn’t sound as good as this and it’s a full stereo set up. But I digress. You will not be disappointed at all. That plus the durability and the easy Bluetooth paring make this a worth while investment. Bluetooth audio sounds the best. I didn’t use the aux input as I feel that’s a bit redundant at this point. But great to have for those who still need it. Battery seems to be exceptional even with its ability to charge your phones and tablets. Didn’t take much of a hit while being used heavily. Good job on this huge battery’s capabilities. That’s always a big deal for people looking into such a speaker. And this one excelled. This also includes a nice little microphone. So if at a party and you’d like to wish a happy bday. You can. Though I may not use it ever. It’s cool of Ion to throw it In. Nice touch! Note. This has NFC but I never used this function. It’s easy enough to just set up manually. Ps. This is water resistant. So if you plan on using this by the poor. Your good. Just make sure to cover the ports with the rubber seal or else you may have problems. I highly recommend this as I have had several of Ion products. For the msrp you can’t beat it. Good luck and happy shopping!

What I like about the ION Audio Sport XL: -Easy Bluetooth (BT) Paring (press the BT button and voice tells you BT pairing) -Speaker gets really loud and fills my backyard (I keep master volume half way) -Can charge my portable device while I am using it (does not fast charge) -The added wheels and handle make it super easy for my kids to lug it around -added mic is a bonus -great battery life -small size can fit it in the smallest of cars -vocals sound clear -included FM/AM tuner nice touch (when I play radio it is super loud so turn volume down to 2) -Excellent build quality (would of like to see some rubber panels on exterior for more rugged chassis) What could be improved: -the included mic is below average. you pretty much have to put it right next to your mouth. A BT mic would of been so much better -bass is flat when listening to hip-hop (this can be improved) -like most BT speakers you sometimes have to adjust portable device and ION speaker to get best sound -top of ion speaker should have rubber mat or rubber material so portable device doesn't slide around if you choose to place on top -include a usb c port -FM/AM tuner has some static when adjusting volume but goes away once hand is removed -Would like to see NCAA branded ones (maybe the already have these) -Maybe don't connect to last connected BT device at startup (some people might like that but I don't) I didn't realize ION Audio was billing this as a PA speaker. When I was first in the market it was advertised to me as a portable Bluetooth speaker. It is an all around great speaker. I connected it it to my Android phone, iPad, iPhone, LG projector, computer, and laptop. BT paired up fast and I never had any dropped connections. This is a big upgrade to the previous BT speaker I had. It also has a line in (with included 3.5mm cable included), so if you have anything other than an iPhone or new Samsung device you are in luck. To really be used as a PA speaker, I recommend an upgraded mic. I am not sure if you can pair a BT mic and BT device (as source of music) at the same time so you might have to get another wired mic. I found my kids using the speaker to read books aloud (added bonus). We also did some family karaoke. My intended use was for some backyard music while enjoying the pool or patio. Turns out we are using it for many more activities. When you buy this play the "THX Deep Note Trailer 2019 (4k) - Gensis" on youtube. You can see how nice this speaker sounds. When I paired it to my computer, it sounded better than my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX Certified computer speakers. I also like this model because it doesn't have all that RGB lights on it. Simple and sounds great. FM tuner reception sounds good even indoors.

The ION Sport XL has impressed me so far with it’s features, sound, and build quality. First off this is a fairly heavy speaker at around 24 lbs, but thankfully the built in telescoping handle and wheels allow you to move it with ease, think of a suitcase. The design is very pleasing to the eye, and not over the top either. The orange accents add just the right amount of design contrast to make it stand out. Everything you need is included in the box to get started. Mine was fully charged so I didn’t even bother to plug it into power yet. (I don't recommend doing that though, just charge it first) The battery is rated at 75 hours and I do believe it will easily last that long. I spent the better part of two days blaring music in my backyard while my kids were playing and the battery indicator has barely moved. Pairing my phone (Samsung Note10+) was a breeze using the built in NFC feature that this speaker has. I literally turned it on and placed my phone over the NFC symbol on the top of the speaker and it paired. Just be sure your NFC is on using your phone. I also tested out the BT pairing with m wife’s Galaxy S9 and that was equally painless. Going back to the sound, I am very happy with the volume and clarity of the speaker. There is an extra bass button that I have used and it does improve the base response as well. When you crank it all the way up it can get a bit distorted but from what I have tested, you will hardly need to use max volume. You are also given a microphone and you can use this as a PA speaker and it has its own volume as well. It will get plenty loud and you can easily get the attention of people near you and could make singing karaoke a blast. I am a terrible singer so I didn’t force my wife and kids to listen to that. Bottom line is that the pairing was a breeze, battery life is awesome, and sound quality is really good and you absolutely can’t go wrong with this speaker. It really is the perfect speaker for large family gatherings or even to bring to a soccer practice to pump up the players.

This speaker sounds great, I've had it for a month and we listen to it often and it still has half power from the original charge. That's right hard listening for a month and also charging phones and still at half power! Good bass and ample volume, and rugged construction, easy portability, long battery life, and device charging ability another word everything I asked for done brilliantly.

We love this portable, wireless, rechargeable speaker! Originally bought it for our church ministry. Outdoor activities with the youth or when a microphone is needed. But it also came in handy when my car stereo quit. We used it to listen to music on a long trip. One charge has lasted a month so far and may have lasted much longer but I was going to use it at a party and got anxious it wouldnt last so I charged it at half battery. So far only issue is the bass. It would be nicer if it could be adjusted. It is either you have bass or not. But it's not a deal breaker. Feels sturdy. Easy to move around. Rolls smoothly. Sounds great. Its plenty loud- we haven't needed to go full blast- yet. Microphone is okay but we prefer our wireless mic and it works & sounds great with it. Caught it on sale for $119.99. So, far we are very happy with this purchase!

I have two Pros - extra long battery life, light, easy to transport handle and wheels, great sound, user friendly, water resistant, linkable, blue tooth, mic with cord included Cons - LINK option weak (speakers can't be too far apart and nothing can be in between or it will disrupt the connection) BLUETOOTH option weak (item can not be too far from source or it will disrupt the connection) MIC cord short could be a couple of feet longer would be ideal and if linked mode mic still only sounds off on one speaker not both OVERALL - Great buy, highly recommend it, for what we use it for, it works very well

I like the style and look of this system. Being able to pull it with you is very convenient. It offers multiple ways to connect and play music. The power cord isn’t that long. The microphone seems a little cheap and you have to hold your mouth really close to get any sound. The biggest downfall is the constant static out of the speaker. Turning the music up to the max gives you a grainy sound. This speaker or not for purest rather for partiers. A true tailgating speaker. 50 ppl or less will be a good party to get sound to. It can even be used as a seat. Lol

I have an original Ion Block Rocker so this is a great upgrade. Twice the power and water resistant. Same size. Bought 2 to link in stereo. Has a button just for linking to another Sport XL. Waiting for the other to arrive. Love the extra bass. Turn it on and use the equalizer on my phone to tune it in. I am so picky I actually tune each song. Loving this speaker. No lights or gimmicks to break or drain the battery. Kids can charge their devices too. Will review again when the second one arrives.
