Due to the fact that these units use Lead Acid batteries- similar to the batteries you find in a car. While very powerful and long-lasting, if the unit is in continuous disuse for an extended period of time, the battery may drain to a point that it is no longer able to be charged. It didn't work right out of the box. We were so excited but ended up very disappointed. It would turn on but could not get it play anything. After trying everything we returned it.
